How do you decide if an item is going to be put away or you're going to leave it out?Do you need to see something to remember to use it?Or do you need to put things away so they don't feel like they're cluttering up your space?I'm sure you, like me, have different rules for different items. The Art of Decluttering

"Enough is enough""That's enough""Leave good enough alone""Close enough is good enough"It's amazing how one simple word can relate so deeply to our relationship with clutter and our satisfaction with our stuff and life in general. This week we talk about how some enough statements can really make you take stock of where you are at and where your satisfaction lies. You Are Enough - Stuff won't make you enough. More stuff, less stuff... you are enough regardless of your things. You've Done Enough - Do what you can with what you have. Every step forward is a step forward (I know... profound!)What Is Enough - What do you need to be happy? How many of something do you need to have enough?I've Had Enough - When you reach peak frustration with clutter it's a good thing as it drives you to make changesWhen Is Enough Enough - How do you know when you've done enough decluttering? How do you know when to stop? At what point do you reach the equilibrium of satisfaction and enoughI'd love to ask you to leave a Google review today - it takes less than 2 minutes and it will make a huge impact on others confidence to listen/ engage/ join with our community and services around the world. Does the idea of running out of something cause you untold anxiety? Could you learn to use the moment of running out to embrace making do? Or learn to live with less?I've found the most natural way to declutter is to use what I already have in my home. Use things up before buying a replacement. Think about how we so often shop - it's retailers and companies that often dictate when we purchase, how many items we purchase and how much money we spend. We are unknowing slaves to their marketing agendas.Be challenged on the concept of 'running out'. How does it feel to you to run out of something? Does it make you stressed? Or does it actually create more space in your home, less to keep track of?Often if you have more of an item than you need, it's actually harder to keep track of it (think the more pairs of glasses you have the harder it is to find a pair). It's also easier to keep track of things, you're not constantly trying to work out if that's the 'good one' or one that only has a few wears/ uses left in it. Make sure you listen today as this hack has the potential to change the way you store and use items in your home. You may also like to listen to these episodes:Tackling Christmas ExtravaganceMaking DoLimiting ChoiceJoin our communityBecome a Patron – your monthly donation makes a huge difference to me being able to produce this podcast. "Paul wrote that he poured out his life as an offering for the sake of Christ, leading him to find great joy, great contentment in serving Christ." – Pastor Jeff CranstonToday Pastor Jeff and Tiffany dive into Philippians – The New Testament letter written by the Apostle Paul to the church at Philippi, perhaps one of the most popular books in the New Testament. They highlight the letter's central theme of joy, even in the midst of Paul's imprisonment. We can find encouragement in Paul's testimony and his ability, through Christ, to find contentment, strength, hope, and faith in God's sovereignty, regardless of his circumstances.[00:01 - 08:00] An Introduction and Background on PhilippiansPastor Jeff shares a story from Leo Buscaglia – A Parallel to Paul's MessageAuthored by the Apostle Paul during his imprisonment.Paul's intent is to hold on to theological truths despite challenging circumstances.Paul ministered in Philippi during his second missionary journey.Philippi is located in Greece, near the Aegean Sea.Written around 61 or 62 AD during Paul's imprisonment in Rome.Paul's letter to the Philippians was written out of deep appreciation and affection.[08:01 - 18:18] The Key Theological Themes in PhilippiansFinding joy in adversity: It's important to have joy and thankfulness in difficult circumstances, as exemplified by Paul.Be content and rest in God's sovereignty, regardless of life's challenges.Paul was in prison a lot! Yet he persevered in the faith and even saw prison as a part of God's plan to spread the Gospel. [18:19 - 24:14] Breaking Down Philippians 2:5-11This hymn is believed to be one of the earliest in the church, and its verses encapsulate profound theological concepts. No task is too small for Jesus, no obedience is too difficult for God, and no reward is as sweet as that given by God.Jesus is the supreme example Quotes:"The central theme is joy... Paul wrote the letter to the Philippian believers while chained to a guard in prison." – Pastor Jeff Cranston"Paul wrote that he poured out his life as an offering for the sake of Christ, leading him to find great joy, great contentment in serving Christ." – Pastor Jeff Cranston"Jesus started from the very highest place, Heaven, and journeyed to the very lowest place here on earth in a stable in Bethlehem." – Pastor Jeff CranstonResources MentionedBook: Abject Joy: Paul, Prison, and the Art of Making Do by Ryan S. This week's podcast is about one of America's favorite genres: cop movies. The Brooklyn Academy of Music recently screened a series of films called “Watch the Cops: Policing New York in the Movies.” The program was curated by the scholar Pooja Rangan and filmmaker Brett Story, and included a small but eclectic range of films. Among them were big-budget genre films like Copland and Dog Day Afternoon, which show how ambivalence about policing is often resolved in pop culture. There was also the behind-the-scenes documentary, Making “Do the Right Thing”, which offers a glimpse into how movie-making impacts local communities. Another highlight was the rousing docu-fictional activist film, The Torture of Mothers: The Case of the Harlem 6, about police brutality and racism. Film Comment's Devika Girish and Clinton Krute invited Brett and Pooja to discuss the thinking behind their selections and to walk them through the thought-provoking ideas underpinning the program. Brooklyn-based Lake Street Dive is Yesh's favorite band ever! She was so excited to talk to them about her most passionate subject, climate change, and to find out that they care about saving the world (especially for future generations) as much as she does. Most people don't think about how their favorite bands contribute to healing our planet. According to a study published in the academic journal Popular Music in 2019, five Scottish touring bands collectively created 19,314 kg (approx. 21 tons) of carbon emissions between the months of April and September. The average yearly carbon emissions per person globally, according to The Nature Conservancy, is four tons.Lake Street Dive strives to make a difference. Drummer Mike Calabrese, a passionate environmentalist, has taken the lead in educating his fellow band members about climate change and inspiring them to take action. At their shows, they've created a culture of environmentalism by allowing only reusable water bottles and utensils—and of course by recycling. They have also partnered with Cool Effect, a carbon offsetting non-profit, to support environmental efforts that help underserved communities around the world. One beneficiary is the Los Santos Wind Power Project, which intends to provide clean energy to 50,000 people in the Los Santos region of Costa Rica. Their latest album, Obviously, includes the song “Making Do” about the effects of global warming on the lives of young people. Calabrese and lead singer Rachael Price discuss their experiences as an eco-conscious touring band, including their politics in their art, and how people can overcome their fears about our changing world in order to make it better for everyone. Resources mentioned in this episode:IPCC: AR6 Climate Change 2021Additional Resources:Cambridge: Do music festivals communities address environmental sustainability and how? “As human beings, it's not just survival of the fittest. We're also social animals and we thrive when we share.” -Mike Calabrese It can be hard to remain hopeful when we're relentlessly inundated with bad news about the ever-present threat of the climate crisis. But music has the power to lift us up.  And in a world where we're constantly being divided, music also has the power to bring us together. In today's episode of the Mother Earth Podcast, we sit down with drummer Mike Calabrese for a conversation about how the hit band Lake Street Dive uses music to speak out on the climate crisis. Mike also opens up about his history of depression over the climate crisis and how he found a happier place through mediation, self-care and, ultimately, by taking action on the climate crisis. Mike now lives a low carbon life, has joined together with his bandmates to reduce Lake Street Dive's carbon footprint, makes music about the climate crisis, and uses his modest fame to speak out. Mike's story is one of hope and renewal.  Mike and the band have grown into notable musical activists for climate justice. The band partners with Cool Effect, a carbon offset program that balances emissions from the band's tours. Last year Lake Street Dive premiered the official music video for their song, Making Do, which addresses climate impacts happening around the world. In this episode you'll get to hear a little of Making Do and other AMAZING music from Lake Street Dive. Mike's appearance on the show is no accident: he's on a mission to speak out on the climate crisis. I'm deeply honored that he came on Mother Earth Podcast to do so. For People and Planet, thank you for listening. Matt

Fionnula is wise beyond her 16 years. Officially the youngest person to be on MGSW, I was eager to get Fionnula's perspective on just about everything. We discuss what it's been like to be a high school student during Covid and how she and her friends are feeling about the election and climate change, without being able to vote. Fionnula also shares her thoughts on what Gen Z thinks of millennials and what her opinions are about college, mental health and communal living. Fionnula's Book Recommendations: Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and Coraline by Neil Gaiman Songs featured: "Making Do" by Lake Street Drive and "Ooh La La" by Faces How to support the show: Rate, review and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes!
