However, Ryan refuses, accidentally kills Mallory, and leaves, Butcher embraces his dark side of Kessler. Homelander tasks the remaining Seven with eliminating everyone at Vought who has incriminating evidence against them; Ashley injects herself with V. While Frenchie develops the virus, The Boys monitor Singer in a bunker where they discover Annie is the shapeshifter and a fight ensues; the real Annie arrives and kills the shapeshifter. When Homelander reveals that Neuman is a Supe on air live, she calls on Hughie to protect her and Zoe in exchange for help. When The Boys and Neuman meet, Butcher arrives, kills Neuman with his new superpowers, and steals the virus. Sage reveals to Homelander that his plan has been a success when Singer is arrested for conspiring with The Boys to kill Neuman. Speaker of the House Steven Calhoun becomes the new President of the United States, swears allegiance to Homelander and declares martial law, delegating Homelander and his army of superhumans. Criston parades Meleys’ head through King’s Landing, though the near-starving smallfolk consider it a bad omen. Aegon has survived but is comatose and severely burned, while Sunfyre is presumed near-dead; Criston withholds telling Alicent what truly happened at the battle. Daemon dreams of incest with his mother, who calls him her favorite son. The Small Council reject Alicent as regent and elect Aemond instead, both because he is male and because they want a dragonrider on the throne. Aemond orders the city gates shut, preventing blacksmith Hugh Hammer and his family from fleeing. Jeyne Arryn tells Rhaena she wanted a mature dragon for protection rather than two dragon hatchlings. At the Twins, Jace obtains the Freys’ allegiance in exchange for Harrenhal. Rhaenyra sends Elinda to King’s Landing to spy. Daemon declares he will reign as king once a large enough army is raised; he orders the Blackwoods to ravage the Brackens and forces their fealty. Alys criticizes his ruthlessness and the riverlords denounce his atrocities. Rhaenyra laments lacking riders for Vermithor and Silverwing, the only dragons large enough to challenge Vhagar; Jace suggests searching other houses for Valyrian descendants. Cobra Kai (Netflix) Out of 10 You Really Are a Cream Puff, but Not Reallys Darryl: 8/10 Brian: 8.58/10 Episode 1: “Peacetime in the Valley” Written by: Bob Dearden Directed by: Joel Novoa Air Date: July 18, 2024 Summary: Following the demise of Cobra Kai, the students of both Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang prepare for the Sekai Taikai. After disagreements over their training styles, Johnny and Chozen challenge each other to a fight. Daniel learns that Chozen’s pride was wounded when Silver stabbed him in the back and Kumiko did not reply to his voice messages. Miguel tries to ease the tension between Sam and Tory while Robby attempts to make amends with Kenny, but he encounters Shawn, who tells him to leave Kenny alone. Robby and Miguel take on Shawn while Sam and Tory try to reason with Kenny into joining their dojo, but to no avail. After receiving a text message, Johnny goes to Coyote Creek, where Stingray tells him to retake the Cobra Kai brand with Kreese and Silver gone. The next morning, Johnny concedes and tells Daniel that Miyagi-Do has the right to represent the students in the Sekai Taikai, but he and Chozen still have their fight. After a talk with Shawn, Kenny joins Miyagi-Do. Elsewhere, Kreese enters Kim Da-eun’s dojo, telling the students that Cobra Kai is back. Episode 2: “The Prize” Written by: Joe Piarulli & Luan Thomas Directed by: Joel Novoa Air Date: July 18, 2024 Summary: Kreese proposes to Master Kim to have his dojo represent Cobra Kai in the Sekai Taikai, only to be turned down after Da-eun’s previous partnership with Silver ended in failure. Master Kim then agrees to the proposal if Kreese ventures to a remote island and recovers his ancient family knife deep within a cave. Kreese finds the knife, but is bitten by an albino cobra, causing him to see hallucinations of Silver and Johnny. Meanwhile, Miguel discovers that Kyler is the subject of hazing by a fraternity that has no plans of letting him in. With the help of Miguel, Demetri, Eli, and Brucks, Kyler takes down the fraternity at their party. After the Diaz apartment experiences a leaky ceiling due to clogged sewage pipes, Johnny gets a sales job at LaRusso Auto Group to save up for a new home. Upon conquering his inner demons and vanquishing his sole weakness, Kreese beheads the cobra and returns to Master Kim with the knife and the dead cobra’s head, determined to not allow anyone to stop him from his goal – not even Johnny. Episode 3: “Sleeper” Written by: Mattea Greene Directed by: Ralph Macchio Air Date: July 18, 2024 Summary: Kreese takes control of the Kim dojo training, focusing on the delinquent Kwon and molding him. That night, after some prodding by Kreese to use his anger for a purpose, Kwon defeats Yoon, the dojo’s top student, in a fight and rips off the King Cobra badge as a personal souvenir, affirming his role as the leader. At the Miyagi house, Daniel, Chozen, and Amanda discover a chest hidden under the floor. Upon opening the chest, they discover Mr. Miyagi co-owned a boxing gym and reportedly fled the country to China after he was wanted for assault and robbery in 1947. After noticing the friendship between Sam and Tory making them weak in their training, Johnny invites them to Devon’s home for a slumber party. Despite Johnny’s plan failing, Sam and Tory suddenly get into an argument before they apologize to each other for their wrongdoings. The next day, the Miyagi-Do dojo learns that the Sekai Taikai will be hosted in Barcelona, and that only six fighters will be allowed to represent each dojo. Episode 4: “Underdogs” Written by: Chris Rafferty Directed by: Sherwin Shilati Air Date: July 18, 2024 In order to determine the six fighters who will represent Miyagi-Do in the Sekai Taikai, Daniel and Johnny bring in Barnes to shake down the dojo. Hawk, Robby, Miguel, Sam, Tory, Mitch, Kenny, Nate, Chris, Demetri, Devon, and Anthony are chosen by Barnes for the second round of eliminations. The next day, the top 12 engage in a battle royale, where each student must rid another of their flags. Tory, Robby, Sam, and Miguel immediately advance. Anthony doubts himself after receiving a bloody nose from Kenny during the battle royale. Johnny confronts Barnes upon learning Devon did not make the cut. The next morning, Barnes has Hawk, Demetri, Devon, and Kenny run through the forest and capture two flags to determine the final lineup. Devon captures the first flag after Kenny suddenly experiences diarrhea while Demetri defeats Hawk to make the team. Kenny accuses Anthony of spiking his water with Mitch’s laxative, when in reality it was Devon, while Daniel suspects Johnny had a part in getting Devon in the lineup. Episode 5: “Best of the Best” Written by: Michael Jonathan Smith Directed by: Sherwin Shilati Air Date: July 18, 2024 Summary: Tory encounters Kreese while returning from the Medical Center, who warns her not to trust Miyagi-do. Daniel and Johnny decide have Sam, Tory, Miguel, and Robby fight each other to secure their spots as team captains. Tory returns home, only to discover her mother has passed away due to an undetected blood clot. On the day of the contest, Robby defeats Miguel to become male captain. During the girls’ fight, Tory displays aggression and is about to score the winning point when Daniel intervenes before she reveals to everyone of her mother’s death and leaves the team, forfeiting the female captain position to Sam. This incident causes an argument between Daniel and Johnny over how they should have handled the situation. Hawk is selected to take over Tory’s spot in the team, with Demetri being slightly displeased at the turn of events. As Robby and Sam are given their captain headbands, Daniel suddenly recognizes a similar headband from Mr. Miyagi’s chest and realizes his sensei fought in the Sekai Taikai too as a team captain and that his headband was actually bloodied at the ends, making Daniel question his beliefs. The Miyagi-Do team arrives in Barcelona for the tournament, where they encounter Kreese and Da-eun’s new four-member Cobra Kai representing South Korea, led by Kwon and Tory. When a child's unbridled energy collides with the foresight of a psychic, a martial arts master is born. Grandmaster Bobby Stone, head of the AAU, joins me to recount this unique beginning and delve into the depths of a life shaped by taekwondo. His narrative is not just about kicks and punches; it's a tale of personal evolution, leadership, and the indomitable spirit that drives one to build a community anchored in the values of the sport. We've all witnessed that triumphant moment when the underdog overcomes the odds—like that new white belt in the dojang smashing through their first board after countless tries. Bobby Stone embodies this perseverance and has translated it into a vision for the AAU that's as much about nurturing Olympic dreams as it is about fostering a sense of belonging. Our extensive conversation reveals the strategies to develop taekwondo from the grassroots level to the global stage while keeping the warmth of a family at its core. Stone's commitment to listening, learning, and leading sets a standard we all can aspire to, whether we're on the mat or in the boardroom.By the end of our journey through the episodes, you'll feel as if you've been part of an intimate gathering, where wisdom is shared not from a podium but from a place of shared passion. The legacy of Master Kim, the cherished lessons on balancing family with high-profile leadership roles, and the potential for taekwondo to captivate the mainstream audience—it all comes together in a narrative that's as impactful as it is enlightening. Grandmaster Stone's story is a testament to the power of martial arts to transform lives, and this podcast is your exclusive invitation to explore the extraordinary impact of one man's dedication to the sport he loves.

It's your job to lead in every aspect of your life. But, sometimes you forget. Once in a while life teaches us lessons through unexpected experiences. Master Kim taught me some things about leadership just from being straight forward with me about how I was acting around my son. I took it to heart. I used it as an opportunity to remind myself that I needed to show up as a leader in every aspect of life. Just because I've left a full-time leadership job, doesn't mean that I can't show up as a leader somewhere else.

This week, meet Master Kim.  Master Kim helped bring the ancient practice of SunDo to Western culture starting in the late 1970s.  As taken from his website, "SunDo is a practice that brings balance to the body, mind and spirit through Taoist postures, breathwork and meditation. Integrating these modalities into one holistic practice, SunDo is both breath and body-centered where the consistency of one's own personal practice is the key to self-development and true transformation...Master Kim has been teaching SunDo across the US, Canada and Europe. As a PhD graduate of Philosophy in Human Science, Master Kim integrates contemporary western psychology with ancient eastern wisdom to teach the principles of SunDo and Taoism."    Master Kim has recently released a book, with the English translation coming soon.  Stay tuned!

Chung Moo Quan: The Cult and the Con In the mid-1980s Pam Zekman, an investigative reporter for CBS Affiliate WBBM TV in Chicago, received a tip about the Chung Moo Quan martial arts schools, and started an investigation. Zekman is known for her aggressive investigative work. She has shared two Pulitzer Prizes for investigative reporting, for the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times. One of the tips was about a woman who started taking her son into a local Chung Moo Quan school for lessons. While waiting for her son during his lessons, she began a friendship with the instructor and enrolled in lessons herself. The friendship was said to have possibly evolved into a relationship. The married woman’s family intervened, and hired Clinical Psychologist Dr. Edwin Morse to counsel her. According to Dr. Morse, in the spring of 1988 he began working with the woman, who was involved in Chung Moo Quan in the Chicago area. During this therapy, it became evident to him, that the woman was following behavioral and attitudinal practices contrary to her normal mode of operating, before she entered the School. Russell Johnson talked with her husband and he told him that he had hired someone to follow Master Kim, and take pictures of him. The pictures, along with a note, were sent to Master Kim, saying that he could be gotten to, and to leave the man and his family alone. The harassment stopped after that. He expressed to Russell Johnson that he would like nothing better than to see Master Kim dead. Russell took him seriously, but at the time could not comprehend why someone could hate Master Kim so much, that they would want him dead and now Russell Johnson says he is happy that Kim is dead.

When a new School opened for the first time, the instructors and assistants would stand quietly in the waiting area. Inside the practice area the National Instructors placed a prayer, from Master, behind the Korean and American flags. This is similar to a christening ceremony, in this case the blessing of Master Kim. Believing that Master Kim had the ability to put his mind into objects, this ritual allowed Master Kim to put his mind into the School. From that day forward, when they entered the practice area for the first time each day, they would stand toward the flags in bowing position. This was a long bow, so they could clear their minds of all outside influences and direct their thoughts towards Master Kim and Chung Moo Quan training. The ritual was silent and meditative. Russell would learn years later that the prayer note, placed behind the flags, asked to make Master Kim one of the richest men in the world. Russell thought Master Kim believed that if enough instructors bowed to the flags and thought about him, it would increase the chances of the prayer being answered.

From the beginning of Russell’s training in School, he heard that Master Kim had the power to heal, and that he had a medical doctor’s degree. Russell watched as Aden performed acupressure, knowledge that he believed Master Kim had passed on to Aden. Keith told of an instructor in the Chicago area, who’d been dying in the hospital with some mysterious disease, that most assumed was cancer. All the doctors were in the hospital room, surrounding the instructor, when “Master” Kim entered. When he saw Master Kim, the instructor tried to get up from his death bed to bow, but Master Kim told him to stay down. Master Kim made all the doctors leave the room, even though they disagreed wildly. A short time later, Master Kim opened the door to announce, the instructor had been cured. The doctors were amazed and bewildered.

Russell was told, that Master Kim said a Chung Moo Quan instructor had 3 weaknesses: women, alcohol, and gambling. He was told that women were faulted by design, and that they had no minds. An instructor could lose his mind over a woman; they want control over the relationship, and the man. Russell had a hard time with this thinking, because he was raised by his mother, one of the most wonderful people he’d ever known. One of the stories Keith liked to repeat was that, as part of Master Kim’s training, Grandmaster Wang Po ordered him to sleep with 3,000 women. Not only was he to sleep with them, but get a picture with each one. The purpose of the story was, to say Master Kim had a deeper understanding of women, which could be used to justify his non-feminist views taught at School. It was said that after Master Kim had slept with all these women, they either became nuns or committed suicide, because they could not be with him. This was before digital cameras; Russell’s thought was: that the Master’s film development bill each month must have been huge.

Welcome to the dojo! By special request of Hunter's mom, we're going to take our skills on the road and see what Mixed Mental Arts can do about a current, real world social issue like Black Lives Matter. One of the many wonderful things about social media is that it has revealed just how bad at humans are at making sense of things are. We're the same species that for a long time believed that the best explanation for lightning was an angry man on a cloud. Well into the 1800s, scientists believed infectious diseases were caused by bad smells and that if you didn't smell your own droppings then you wouldn't get sick. (The "whoever smelt it dealt it" logic of kids wasn't that far from the medical state of the art just two hundred years ago.) And if you still doubt just how bad all humans are at explaining things, then take a wander around the internet and google 9/11, Obama birth certificate, GMOs, vaccines, global warming, Trump, Clinton or any other damn thing. The number of theories that surround any of these things and just how opposite these things are tells you that clearly our species isn't very good at figuring out why things happen in the world. So, that Hunter's mom wants a little help understanding Black Lives Matter is simply a recognition of a hole in every human's mental game. Fortunately, there's a group of people who stake their reputations and their lives on figuring out why things happen. They will do anything to be right. And careers are made and broken on taking down current World Champions of explaining the world. And after generations and generations of entering the intellectual octagon, they've gotten some pretty darn good explanations for why things happen. They're scientists. Like all other humans, they're individually crappy at figuring things out but collectively their explanations are pretty good. (PS This whole blurb up until now is partly here because this topic is so emotional that there's a good chance that some of the things said in this podcast will be massively misunderstood. There's always a disaster scenario for even the best intentioned well thought out response to a situation that is then posted on the internet and so we've got to plan for that.) So, we're going to introduce a couple of key concepts that are going to be vital not just to understanding Black Lives Matter but that are going to be real fundamentals we use again and again in Mixed Mental Arts: 1) The Dunbar Number: Humans can only have a limited number of relationships to other humans in their head. Hint: It's not 7 billion people. Stereotyping is necessary. The issue is that we often form our stereotypes around the worst-behaved people in another group. Terrorists explicitly use that psychological quirk to set people against each other. The problem is that we tend to massively underestimate the importance of bad behavior in our own group on others. So, some dude flushes a Koran down the toilet and posts it on social media. Americans don't see the big deal because it isn't their holy book. However, that one dude has a huge impact on how Muslims perceive Americans. Ted Cruz says he wants to bomb the middle east to see if sand glows to get elected in the US but, in practice, he's handing a huge propaganda tool to ISIS that actually makes the US less safe. Lena Dunham says dining hall sushi is cultural appropriation and liberals brush that off as dumb but it gets played on Fox News again and again and is exactly why conservatives think liberals are entitled, spoiled and out of touch with the real world. Lena Dunham gives all liberals a bad name. Just as companies have to protect their brand so do groups. It doesn't matter what the facts are. It is the perception. And when there's money on the line people take those perceptions very seriously. With black lives matter and terrorism, we're not talking about money; we're talking about lives. The lives of cops, African-American men, innocent Europeans and Americans and the majority of Arabs who are so wrapped up in their own lives that they don't spend much time worrying about how other groups perceive them. The UAE, however, takes this very seriously. They had a bunch of young guys with more money than sense going and driving fast sports cars recklessly around London and giving all Emiratis a bad name. And so, they passed a law that traffic offenses committed by their citizens anywhere would be prosecuted in the UAE. Just like in a marriage between two people, things are going to work best if both sides make an effort to improve relations but even if one side or individual makes more of an effort than things can get a lot better. 2) Shit we pick up from our parents without even realizing it. Racism is now hundreds of years old. Like anything we pick up from our parents and the people around us, it is transmitted blindly from generation to generation mostly by emotional cues on the face. The problem is how you then deal with fucked up shit in your own family. As they say in alcoholics anonymous, we are as sick as our secrets. And racism has long been the dirty secret in the American family's life. The truth is though that the fundamental belief has never really been dealt with. Superficials have changed like the law but the basic belief has lurked below the surface. The problem is that shaming racists doesn't actually bring that dirty family secret out. It only drives it deeper under the surface because shame makes us hide things that we're ashamed of. If we want this to be the generation that ends racism once and for all (and Bryan and I want that very badly) then we have to have a conversation about racism without judgment which is emotionally easy for two white guys to say and incredibly hard for black people who have had their whole lives shaped by other people's dumb ideas about them. Sadly though, that's the nature of what the human family is going through right now. We've all been shoved together by globalization and social media and now things are coming to light that haven't been dealt with for a very long time. Some are hundreds of years old like racism. Some date back to the rise of agriculture like sexism. And some are very new like the fears of factory workers who are being made unemployed but globalization and the rise of robots. This is not humanity's first rodeo. We've been here before. We've seen it in our own families and there are plenty of historical examples. For example, Scott Atran did a famous study of possible solutions to the Israel-Palestine situation. He offered people from both sides three solutions. The first gave each group their own country. The second gave each group their own country and a cash buyout. The third solution gave each group their own country, no money and a purely symbolic recognition by the other group of the other's right to exist. The third solution was the only one with enough support to get passed. When a family member dies, the splitting up of the stuff matters but it's also about symbolic acts. We all know that other people's families should make nice and, yet, when it's our own family the feelings are so strong that we often don't practice what we preach. The challenge is not to understand your own group; it's understanding why the group that hates your group would hate you. That's tough. But any Mixed Mental Artist knows that you don't get better by doing the easy thing; you get better by challenging yourself as much as possible.

Global warming, vaccines, evolution…it's pretty clear that scientific ideas aren't doing a very good job winning out. Neil DeGrasse Tyson has proposed building a country called Rationalia that would be entirely ruled by the evidence. But do scientists like Neil DeGrasse Tyson even know the evidence? Sadly, after over 200 episodes, it seems like they don't. The majority of them have become such narrow specialists that they don't even bother to read what other scientists have been up to and so many people with PhDs have heads filled with magical thinking. In this episode, we go through some of the different kinds of magical thinking that many scientists believe in from beliefs about their own brains, other people's brains and how ideas move. Hunter used to be the same way. Basically, he was like that dickhead in the Harvard bar in Good Will Hunting who thought that because he knew a bunch of facts that he had a realistic view of the world and the right to intellectually bully others to make himself feel big. Then, he hung out with a bunch of actors who talked endlessly about their feelings and he got so annoyed that he went off to see what science had to say about emotions. What he found left him profoundly humbled. The more he's read the more he's gotten a real education and come to realize that when Will talked to that Harvard dickhead he was talking to most people with fancy degrees: "See, the sad thing about a guy like you is, in 50 years you're gonna start doin' some thinkin' on your own and you're going to come up with the fact that there are two certainties in life: one, don't do that, and two, you dropped 150 grand on a fuckin' education you could have got for a dollar fifty in late charges at the public library!" The world believes in the magic of degrees. That's what you're paying for. But if you want a real education that allows you to achieve things in the real world you can study for free in the Mental Dojo of Master Kim (aka Bryan Callen). You can be Will and learn how to make Harvard dickheads submit and beg for mental mercy. While science's principles are perfect so is the Christian principle of loving thy neighbor as itself. Just because science has perfect principles that doesn't mean that the most powerful members of the institution built on those principles actually live them. When Jonathan Swift satirized science hundreds of years ago, he gave us a good idea of what Neal DeGrasse Tyson's country would look like. It would be a floating island filled with eggheads who were so interested in theories that they never bothered to question how they might be out of touch with reality. Hi, I am Kim West, The Sleep Lady, mother of two and a licensed family therapist for 20 years. I have been successfully helping sleepless parents just like you for over 15 years all over the world. My sleep journey began over 18 years ago when I started experimenting with gently shaping my first daughter’s sleep by not following the conventional wisdom at the time. After having success and then more success with my second daughter, I began helping family and friends and it spread like wildfire….like an excellent night of sleep for a tired parent will! Since then I have been on a mission to provide gentle sleep solutions to parents everywhere. My approach is a gentler alternative for families who emotionally or philosophically resist letting their babies cry it out: for families who tried “Ferber” and it didn’t work, and for families who let their infant CIO at 3 or 4 months but found it didn’t help later. I have also helped families who believe in co-sleeping but find that their children aren’t really sleeping all that well, even nestled snugly with Mom and Dad. And I have helped guide many families who did co-sleep for a few months to a few years but now want the family bed to revert back to the marital one. I have been sharing my sleep secrets with a nationwide and now a global audience through my personal coaching sessions, speaking events and books. My books (which have sold over 100,000 copies all over the globe with a 95% success rate) provide the step-by-step advice to quickly and gently solve your child’s sleep problems. Here is to a good night’s sleep! Sweet dreams, The Sleep Lady Kim West.  http://www.noshdetox.com Living Raw Radio with your host Geeta Sidhu Robb is on every Wed 6:00PM GST from the Unighted Kingdom.
