Published: February 26, 2023 Jim Friend speaks with Dr. Matthew Whelan, the ninth president of Caldwell University and the first male lay president in Caldwell's history. Prior to joining Caldwell, Dr. Whelan served as Vice President for University Enrollment Strategy and Relationship Development at Stony Brook University, where he held a variety of key leadership roles in undergraduate and graduate admissions, financial aid, registrar, enrollment management, student services, fundraising, facilities and, strategic planning for several campuses. President Whelan has expansive experience leading administrative and faculty teams at Catholic and public higher education institutions, including St. John's University, Hofstra University, William Paterson University, and Mercyhurst College. Dr. Whelan has held a number of positions on national higher education boards and associations; he has presented nationally and internationally on issues impacting higher education, coached a women's soccer team to an NCAA Division II Final Four appearance, and taught graduate students in higher education administration. He holds a master's degree from William Paterson University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Dowling College in Shirley, New York. Jake Basile chats with Greg Heffernan as he gears up for his third campaign with the Connecticut Chiefs. Heffernan brought with him to the Chiefs a resume that includes a 12-year stint as the Head Coach at Western New England University, and five additional seasons serving as an Assistant Coach at both SUNY Fredonia and Mercyhurst College. The veteran coach gives a lot of credit to the relationships that he made at the collegiate level as a big reason why he's been able to push 16 players and counting into the NCAA ranks from the Chiefs.

Starting coaching so young what did he learn by his mistakes. Who and what did learn prior to getting into coaching that he took into his first year of coaching. Lots of advice for younger coaches. Did you ever want to give up? And how did you keep going? Game and players changing, your opinion? Young kids and some coaches want to accomplish things quickly nowadays, in your opinion. Entering the 2018 season, Coach Jordano was listed among the top 25 winningest active coaches in NCAA DI baseball. In his twenty-one years leading the Panthers, Jordano left as the all-time winningest coach in Pitt Baseball history, as well as, recording more wins (588) than any coach, in any sport, in Pitt Athletic history. Jordano's teams rewrote the Panther record book; sent over 70 players into professional baseball and led Pitt's transition into the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Prior to Pitt, Jordano was the head coach at Mercyhurst College in his hometown of Erie, PA. He guided the Lakers for ten seasons and left as the winningest coach (283 wins) in Mercyhurst College history. Coach Jordano has earned six Coach of the Year awards in his career. Jordano has been inducted into the Mercyhurst College Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame (Erie Chapter) and the Italian/American Sports Hall of Fame (Pittsburgh Chapter).

Ben VanHook is a graduate student at George Mason University, studying public policy. He also works in Washington, D.C. as a Programs and Outreach Associate at the Organization for Autism Research, and as the first autistic student representative to the American Psychological Association. After graduating, Kevin worked at Marriott International throughout the Mid-West, eventually returning to Philadelphia as General Manager for several Marriott Branded Hotels. Kevin met Pamela Jenks in Philadelphia, and within a few years they were married. Kevin was promoted to VP of Sales and Marketing for Concord Hospitality, and he and Pamela (along with their three young children) relocated to Raleigh, N.C. In April 2006, just a few short months after moving to Raleigh, Pamela was diagnosed with Leukemia, and their lives were changed forever. In the midst of tragedy, Kevin led three young children through a life-altering loss, while learning the resilience to love again. On Christmas Eve 2012, Kevin committed to a lifetime of love when he and Shayna were married—blending a beautiful family of six kids: Mason, Christopher, Mia, Amanda, Madison, and Kevin Patrick.
