Hello, Overland enthusiasts! In our latest episode, we had a blast catching up after missing last week's show. We started off with some playful banter about last week's absence, which was humorously blamed on Ashley. We quickly moved into a lively discussion, filled with updates and a special shout-out to our sponsor, Overland Addict. We were thrilled to bring in various topics, including a recap of the recent MOORE Expo. The expo was a fantastic gathering of the community, and we had the opportunity to explore an array of innovative overlanding gear and trailers. We shared our personal highlights and the interesting people we met, including detailed discussions about specific trailers like the Teton X and the ROG. The episode wasn't without its humorous moments, especially revolving around a prank involving a T-shirt with my face photoshopped onto a bikini-clad body, which became a recurring joke throughout the night. We discussed the potential for these shirts to become a hilarious new merchandise option. We also announced upcoming giveaways, urging our listeners to engage with our social media to win some cool Overland Radio branded gear. In all, the episode was filled with laughter, good-natured ribbing, community events, and the shared passion for overlanding gear and adventures. Thanks for tuning in, and make sure to engage with us on social media for a chance to win in our giveaways! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/overlandradio/message

Overland Radio Show: Special Guest Mark Bruce from Red Arc Hey everyone, Lee here from the Overland Radio Show. We just wrapped up an incredible episode with our special guest, Mark Bruce from Red Arc. As always, it was a Tuesday night delight filled with insightful discussions about the latest in 12-volt technology and overlanding gear. We kicked things off by giving a shout out to our sponsors, including Overland Attic, Rugged Bound, and Midland USA. We also encouraged our listeners to share the episode and leave us a positive review on platforms like iTunes. Mark, joining us all the way from Australia, brought the heat with discussions about Red Arc's innovative products. Despite the temperature differences between Oklahoma and Australia, we dove into the cool features of Red Arc's offerings. One of the highlights was learning about Red Arc's 150 ampere lithium battery with an inbuilt heater, perfect for handling extreme temperatures. Mark explained how this dense power battery can handle a 2000 watt inverter on its own, a game-changer for overlanders. We also talked about the new smart battery monitor, which is like a fuel gauge for your auxiliary battery system. It uses an algorithm to convert volts and amps into time, giving you a clear idea of how much power you have left. Mark introduced us to the Red Vision Rogue, a compact and versatile system that can control up to 10 circuits and monitor two water tanks. It's a solid-state system with digital fuses and can be daisy-chained for more complex setups. For those looking to manage their power on the go, the Go Block was a topic of interest. It's a portable power solution with a 50 amp DC-DC charging circuit, allowing you to take your fridge and other essentials anywhere. We wrapped up the show with a sneak peek at the upcoming Manager 100, a battery management system that can charge large lithium batteries and adjust power draw from your vehicle's alternator. It was an episode packed with information that left us excited about the future of overlanding tech. We can't wait to see what Red Arc has in store for us next, and we're already looking forward to having Mark back on the show. Remember to check out our sponsors, and if you're at the Moore Expo, come find Ashley and me right outside the main entrance. Until next time, keep exploring and stay charged up with the latest gear from Red Arc! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/overlandradio/message

This week I'm talking with my buddy Gari from the YouTube Channel Gee from BC about new versus old rigs. I've historically been a "save money by buying older used rigs" person, but with some problems with the truck over the last year and dealing with a daily and the rig, I've started to wonder about the pros and cons of newer vehicles versus the older ones. To add even more value to the convo, Gari talks about his experiences and what he thinks about newer versus older vehicles. In this episode, I'm excited to have Patrick Mckenney from Orbis Overlanding on to talk through the epic 2 week Overlanding trip that we're going on this summer. He's been planning this for quite a while and I've mentioned that I'm going to be going to Canada soon, so we figured we'd talk through the trip to give everyone more info on what the plan is and where exactly we're going. The Trans Tiaga is an extremely remote gravel road that extends to the 55th parallel. The terminus is also the farthest point from any town via road in North America (745 kilometres or 463 miles from Radisson) and that's our ultimate destination as we explore Canada. I generally stay out of all the infighting, name calling, and general animosity that you see on the big Overlanding Facebook groups or forums, but it's getting so old that I felt like I had to make an episode addressing how social media is destroying Overlanding culture. My hope is that this will help people realize that some of the stuff we "gatekeep" is just pointless and it only serves to scare people away from the hobby. I recently went on a winter dispersed camping trip and the main comment I saw on pictures and videos was "how can you have fun with temps that cold" or "I love camping, but not when it's that cold." So, I wanted to run down a list of some helpful tips that can not only help you survive winter camping, but even make it fun and enjoyable. Stay tuned until the end for some cheats and tips to really take your winter camping to the next level. Here are the products I mentioned in the video if it helps! In this episode, I wanted to talk through how easy it actually is to get into Overlanding just using gear you've already got around the house. I remember thinking when I first started getting into Overlanding that I needed to buy a ton of gear and modify my vehicle completely before I could even get out and start exploring. I ended up wasting a bunch of time and money and worse, didn't even get out on a trip for several months while I waited until I was "ready." So, in this episode, I'm going to talk you through how easy it is to get started exploring using the vehicle and gear you've already got! Want to listen to the podcast without commercials? In this week's episode, I'm talking through why I think it is often worth it to drive 8+ hours for a weekend Overlanding trip. I get that question quite a bit from folks asking how I can justify driving 6, 8, or more hours away for a trip that often only lasts a couple of day. So, I'm going to talk through why I do these long trips, how I make them work and try to maximize the value I get from them, and how I account for and justify the expense. If you want to join the conversation, check out the links below and come hang out wherever you'd like! What variables impact which one you should select? I'll run through everything I've learned in my experience and talk through when I think each makes the most sense for your set up. This week I am doing a deep dive into the pros and cons of hammocks, roof top tents, and ground tents (AKA roof top tents for the ground). I've used all three pretty extensively and I'm at a point where I'm really trying to think through the pros and cons of each to decide where I want to take my build going forward. I figured that the discussion of all the pros and cons could be beneficial for people who are trying to figure out their set ups as well. So, check out the video for all the info! I know there are some other options (tear drop campers, small camping trailers with an RTT mounted on it, truck bed caps, etc.) but these are the three I'm considering and have the most experience with so I hope it's helpful! This week, I wanted to talk through some strategies for dealing with inclement weather. I've always hated camping in the rain, but as I've gone more and more, I've learned what gear and strategies can make it much more enjoyable. This week I wanted to really break down what the differences were between camping in a state or national park versus dispersed camping spots. I'll walk you through what the differences are between these two types of camping as well as what the pros and cons are of each. Sometimes one makes more sense than the other, depending on the goals of your trip. Check out the whole podcast for more info and what I prefer and why. Thanks for listening! Being an Indiana native, I get a lot of questions about Indiana Hoosier National Forest because it's kind of my stomping grounds. So, this week, I wanted to talk somewhat specifically about Hoosier National Forest and how to get out exploring and dispersed camping in it. However, the stuff I'm going to discuss is general enough that it pretty much applies to most National Forests, so it should be helpful for everyone. If you're wanting some suggestions for things that would help make dispersed camping easier, here are some of the things I mentioned in the video with links. I wanted to take a step back from just Overlanding to touch a bit on dispersed camping this week as well. Whether you're hiking in, driving in, or kayaking in, they all pretty much have some standard "rules" that will help you be safe when taking your first solo trip. Hopefully this is good info, but I'm sure I missed some stuff that you guys think is also important. Head over to the Facebook or Instagram pages and drop your thoughts on the essentials for getting started if you want! You may have heard that my truck broke an axle. It's sad, but because I can't stop going out exploring and camping, I decided to hop into daily driver, an 07 Lexus IS350, and just go hit Hoosier National Forest for a fun weekend of camping. This rear wheel drive, low, sporty sedan did great on the gravel and was actually a lot of fun to drive off road. While it's not the ideal choice for Overlanding or offroad exploring, it shows that if you're new to Overlanding or dispersed camping, you shouldn't just run out and buy a big lifted truck or SUV before ever trying it. I'll talk through some of the benefits of taking a vehicle like this (or any other normal daily driver) out to explore and learn what you like and where you want to go before droping 10's of thousands of dollars on a vehicle without knowing if you even like Overlanding. Today I'm going to be talking about some of the pros and cons of older vehicles for Overlanding vs. newer vehicles for Overlanding. I've had some recent mechanical issues with my 2008 Nissan Frontier that made me really start considering if a new vehicle might make sense. So, if you're thinking about getting your first, or a new, Overlanding vehicle, this episode should help you think about the pros and cons of newer vs. older so you can make your decision. This week I've been noticing a lot of posts on Overlanding Facebook groups and forums where people were asking what kind of jobs people had to do in order to afford to Overland full time, or at least more often than they felt like they could. I'm going to talk a bit about what I saw on the forums, but then dive into my experience and how I've changed my whole career trajectory over the last 5 years since I've started Overlanding and camping more to support that lifestyle. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that are living that dream too, so pop over to Facebook, Instagram, or the Patreon group and post up what you're doing to live the dream! Lee and I have been wanting to try out Starklink a satellite internet from Elon Musk. Lee was off in the woods, I was in a hotel and we had Chris from Moore Expo ready for to join us live. Here is what I found out.
Chris has been a good friend and supporter of All Over Overland and Overland Radio. We met around a campfire and instantly became great friends. The Moore Expo has been a great event here in the MidWest bringing overlanders and companies from ALL OVER. It really is a great buyers show with plenty of products and great prices. This will be the 4th Moore Expo in April of 2023 and I cannot wait. Tickets are already on sale at www.mooreexpo.com.

MOORE21...They hype was unreal. The anticipation was overwhelming...and then Mother Nature threw a monkey wrench in the plans. Was this gonna happen? Would anyone show up?...It did and it went off like a Chinese Firecracker stuck up your holy britches. This is the spark that makes the engine run. This is the key that turns on the fuel that fires the motor that spins the engine for making everything go. This was the fire that needed to be lit under us. 2020 was a hard year. Many could not get out, but here they did. This is exactly the shot they needed to heal their broken spirits. Many photos and videos would follow. The excitement would be prolonged for weeks, many already preparing, ready for next year. Who knows what will happen at MOORE22? Check it out! Life is short; we have hard it a million times. Use your time wisely; we have heard it a million times. We are never guaranteed time so we have to plan accordingly. The problem is that all of the above mentioned are worth our time. The Camping trips with unforgettable stories around the fire is worth our time. That wheeling trip where we tested out our rig and it outperformed all we thought it could do is worth our time. That trip to Artemis for Rigs and Coffee or spending that Valentine's weekend at MOORE Expo is worth our time. They all feed our soul in one way or another. They all create memories worth sharing. They all introduce us to new life-long friends who share the same passions as we have. They all are worth our time. Just go. Do not be that guy or girl who buys all the gear, builds up the rig and never experiences the fulfillment of it all. Do not live that life of regret by not going, just go. Make it a priority to live life spending your time doing what you love to do. I want to take a minute to thank my sponsors for supporting this podcast.
