Chris Smith had long made a tradition of planning annual motorcycle adventures with friends and family. The year before, their trip was cut short when several people dropped out due to various challenges. This time, with a smaller group, they pushed farther—riding through active wildfires on their way to the end of Quebec's remote Trans-Taiga Road. After a night camping at the Caniapiscau Reservoir, they began the ride back toward Radisson as the smoke thickened and the sky darkened. Pressing on, they discovered the road south had been closed due to the fires. Stranded for a couple of days, they made the most of it—sharing meals, swapping stories, and strengthening the bonds that make these adventures unforgettable. This wasn't just another ride. It was a reminder of why they go: for the adventure, the challenge, and the connection.

Jesse Eisenberg owes it all to an internet pop-up ad. A few years ago, while at an impasse with a screenplay about two friends on a trip to Mongolia, the writer-director and star of movies like The Social Network read an ad for “Auschwitz tours - with lunch.” And that jarring phrase unleashed an avalanche of ideas about, as he puts it, “the irony of wanting to connect to your ancestors' pain but at the same time not being willing to experience any pain yourself: stay at the Radisson, eat your continental breakfast, have your croissant in the morning and your coffee in the van going to a concentration camp.” Skip forward to 2025, and the film unlocked in his imagination by that ad – A Real Pain – is an awards season frontrunner, nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor at this year's Oscars. Its story of two cousins – David, played by Jesse, and Kieran Culkin as Benji – on a Holocaust “trauma trip” through Poland is a moving meditation on the shame it's easy to feel in today's world for feeling unsatisfied with life, when we think about the greater hardships our ancestors may have suffered. it's devastating and deliriously funny in equal measure, not to mention bold in how it refuses an Eat Pray Love narrative of having international travel solve these characters' problems back home. In A Real Pain, Culkin's erratic livewire Benji ends up exactly back where he started – but we as an audience are changed. In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, Jesse tells me about how the film worsened rather than resolved his complicated feelings around what pain he's entitled to feel. We get into that devastating final shot at the end of the film and why it is we feel the urge to connect to our pasts, with services like Ancestry and 23andMe. Listen out also for the parts of Jesse's life he folded into the script – such as his use of medication and medication to tackle OCD and depression – and how Jesse reflects on the unanswerable question of, how much grief to allocate to the terrible situation in the world right now, before we cease functioning. It's a fascinating chat about a fascinating film.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay just got back from pullin' off a job at Brainerd so they can talk about the Coen Bros' crime-comedy masterpiece 'Fargo.' Andy kicks off the episode by remembering when he dragged a group of friends (and their parents) to see this R-rated chiller in theater. Then the boys indulge in a fountain of conversation...a geyser, as they talk about what is perhaps the Coens' funniest movie. Stuffed with inept criminals and all-around low lifes, the film features a never-funnier Steve Buscemi and his sociopathic partner who embark on a crime/killing spree to kidnap the wife of William H. Macy's bumbling Jerry. Fortunately, Frances McDormand's saintly Marge is on the case to pick up nightcrawlers, endless orders of fast food, and apprehend the criminals who robbed and murdered people all while ruining a perfectly beautiful day. The lying and scheming degens may be popping out of every crevice — including hotel bars at the Radisson — but Marge's resolute goodness prevails. Oh geez, just check out the episode.

Customer Mindset and Priorities in 2025 (01:47)The current climate of geopolitical and economic uncertainty is driving the need for speed and agility when delivering value to customers. Google Cloud customer projects that do just that include improving logistics at UPS, enhancing search functionality, and boosting customer service at Hanesbrands and Macy's. "Uncertainty means the great CEOs want action," Kurian says. "You control the controllable, and you do that by improving speed in your organization." Kurian also discusses significant AI integrations, such as Google Cloud's collaboration with Samsung on its phones and Snap's in-app coach, which are shaping the future of customer interaction.Cloud and AI as a Continuum (04:08)Kurian explains that cloud services actually simplify the deployment and management of AI because they provide models and accelerators as services, reducing the complexity of managing AI systems. In turn, AI helps to streamline cloud services by enabling faster and more efficient application development. Customer examples of how cloud and AI work together to deliver innovative offerings can be found in AI-driven risk calculations at Hiscox, tailored advertising for Puma and Radisson, and content discovery for Warner Brothers Discovery.AI's Impact on Business and Productivity (07:48)AI is no longer confined to IT departments but is now influencing a wide range of business functions. It's improving productivity by streamlining operations, such as facilitating live patient handoffs at hospitals. "Allowing the nurses to do live handoff to another nurse means more time at the bedside. It means more productivity."AI is also enhancing product development by enabling customers to articulate complex needs, which AI can then translate into tailored recommendations. Furthermore, AI's role in call center automation is improving efficiency by handling high volumes of customer inquiries and providing superior service.Customer Service and AI Integration (13:01)Google Cloud's approach to integrating AI with customer service helps businesses create more cohesive and efficient customer experiences by improving reach, understanding, and interactions across multiple channels. Kurian discusses innovations such as the self-service retail search at InterContinental Hotels and digital concierge services for Orange. AI agents manage customer queries, upsell products, and improve service efficiency in call centers.Cost Optimization and Efficiency in AI (15:52)There are several ways in which Google Cloud is addressing the challenges of AI tool affordability. Kurian outlines initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of AI, such as new software capabilities and optimizations to AI models. In the last six months, Google Cloud has significantly reduced costs, with model costs dropping by more than 10 times. Additionally, improvements in latency and the reduction of AI response iterations are also helping to make AI more efficient and cost-effective.Customer Acknowledgment (18:46)In closing, Kurian expresses his gratitude to Google Cloud's customers, partners, and all those who have supported the company's journey. "To every customer, every partner, everyone who gave us a shot, you were the reason that all of our people worked so hard. Thank you."

Interview with Matt Manson, President & CEO of Radisson Mining Resources Inc.Recording date: 11th September 2024Radisson Mining Resources presents an compelling investment opportunity in the gold sector, focusing on the revival of the historic O'Brien gold mine in Quebec's prolific Abitibi region. Under new leadership and with a pragmatic development strategy, Radisson is positioning itself to potentially become Quebec's next gold producer while minimizing capital expenditure and risk. The O'Brien project boasts a current indicated resource of 1 million ounces at an impressive grade of 10 g/t gold, with management believing there's potential to grow this to 2-3 million ounces. This high-grade resource, combined with the project's strategic location and excellent infrastructure, sets a strong foundation for development.Key investment highlights underscore Radisson's potential. The O'Brien project's high-grade resource, with 10 g/t gold, positions it among the top undeveloped gold projects globally, hinting at robust economics. Exploration upside is significant, with an ongoing 35,000-meter drill program aimed at expanding the resource. Results are expected throughout 2024, with a resource update anticipated by mid-2025. The project's strategic location on Highway 117 in the Abitibi region provides excellent infrastructure and proximity to operating mills. Radisson's low-capex development strategy, exemplified by the recent MOU with IAMGold to potentially use their nearby Doyon mill, could significantly reduce initial capital requirements and accelerate production timeline. The company's experienced leadership, including CEO Matthew Manson, brings a wealth of successful mine development expertise. By potentially outsourcing milling and tailings management, Radisson can focus on optimizing crucial underground mining operations. Lastly, strong local support is evident, with about 35% of shares held by high net worth regional stakeholders, providing a stable shareholder base and underlining community backing.CEO Matthew Manson summarizes the opportunity: "There's a neat little thing to be done here right which is going to make money and go for a long time and satisfy a lot of aspirations." This encapsulates Radisson's pragmatic approach to developing a high-grade gold asset in a premier jurisdiction. While detailed economic studies are pending, back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest potential for a high-margin operation. The company's strategy of keeping capital expenditures low by leveraging existing infrastructure aims to maximize potential returns to shareholders.Key near-term catalysts include ongoing drill results, a potential resource update in 2025, and progress on the MOU with IAMGold. The completion of a preliminary economic assessment would provide investors with a clearer picture of the project's economic potential. As with any mining development project, risks remain. These include geological uncertainties, execution risks, gold price volatility, and potential regulatory or financing challenges. However, Radisson's approach appears well-suited to navigate these challenges. For investors seeking exposure to advanced-stage gold exploration with near-term production potential in a stable jurisdiction, Radisson Mining Resources offers an intriguing opportunity. The combination of high grades, strategic location, experienced management, and a capital-efficient development strategy positions the company well for potential value creation in the coming years.View Radisson Mining Resources' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/radisson-resourcesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Through panels, reports, and surveys, UBN gives businesses insight into their opportunities in Ukraine during times of war. It works with 4,000+ companies across sectors, including the World Bank Group, UN, Coca-Cola, Radisson, McDonald's, and the Wall Street Journal. An expert analyst on Ukraine and CIS countries, Mark has spent 15 years tracking the region's political, economic, social, and intelligence activities. He has also instructed at the U.S. Army's Combating Terrorism Center, teaching counterterrorism courses to CIA and FBI agents. He was previously the Managing Director of FrontierView (Europe), an advisory firm valued at $18M that gives 300+ multinationals market intelligence to help their businesses grow. He has been featured on Bloomberg, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, and the BBC. On the podcast, Mark discusses How do you start a company in a war zone without income or local knowledge? Identifying the right critical skills and market niches for business success in Ukraine. Challenges of workforce development in Ukraine and how to effectively deal with them. https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-mcnamee-58950910/ https://ubn.news/ubn-network/ https://www.britannica.com/topic/Commonwealth-of-Independent-States https://ctc.westpoint.edu/ https://frontierview.com/ https://updatefromkyiv.podbean.com/e/137-analysis-mark-mcnamee-on-ukraine-s-economic-opportunities-and-challenges/ https://www.potomac-group.com/podcast/episode-12-mark-mcnamee-on-the-ongoing-russian-war-on-ukraine Summary Introduction to Mark and UBN Network @ 0:00 Mark introduced himself as the co-founder and owner of UBN (Ukraine Business News) Network, a company he started with his co-founder Andrew to help Western companies navigate the investment environment and understand the economic and geopolitical situation in Ukraine. Mark discussed his personal and academic background that led him to focus on this region, and his decision to move to Kyiv last October to be part of Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction efforts. The Significance of Ukraine's Conflict @ 3:00 Michael and Mark discussed the importance of recognizing that the conflict in Ukraine is not just about the current war, but is part of a larger geopolitical struggle between Western democratic values and the "might makes right" mentality of Russia and other non-Western powers. They emphasized that Ukraine's fight is not just for its own sovereignty, but for upholding the international order and rules-based systems that the West believes are better for humanity. The Human Toll and Resilience of Ukrainians @ 8:26 The conversation explored the immense human suffering and trauma experienced by Ukrainians due to the war, including the stories of families being separated, people fleeing their homes, and the psychological impact on the nation. However, they also highlighted the resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people to carry on with their daily lives and livelihoods despite the ongoing challenges. Opportunities for Rebuilding and Recovery @ 19:44 Mark and Michael discussed the importance of the work that UBN Network is doing to help facilitate Ukraine's economic recovery and reconstruction, even as the war continues. They emphasized the need for the West to continue supporting Ukraine and providing resources to help the country rebuild, with the goal of eventually transitioning from a wartime to a peacetime economy. Closing and Call to Action @ 21:11 In closing, Michael thanked Mark for his work and encouraged listeners to connect with Mark and UBN Network to learn more about the situation in Ukraine and how they can get involved in supporting the country's recovery efforts.

Jason Radisson was introduced to us as a serial ‘unicorn breeder' that we needed to talk with. Well, yes, he has over 20 years of experience in strategy, operations, and growth with global companies like Uber and Brazil's 99Taxis, but what we were really excited about was his passion for bringing frontline workers digital advancements so that they weren't left behind and left out of the technology revolution that has improved the worklife of desk workers in the last five years. Jason is the founder of Movo, a platform designed to streamline processes for any ‘on their feet' or ‘in the field' workforce member by providing a flexible and better connected work experience. All with the goal to lead to productivity enhancements, employee satisfaction and reduction in turnover. Our conversations balanced lessons learned by Jason as a business builder as well as the ambitions of his latest work through Movo. Here are the highlights of our talk: - Motivation Behind Movo: Jason identified a significant gap in the market for digitizing frontline work, particularly for blue-collar workers who lacked the benefits of automation and connectivity seen in white-collar settings. - Value of Experience: Drawing from personal experiences, Jason stresses the importance of gaining industry experience before venturing into entrepreneurship. He suggests that learning from seasoned professionals can help avoid common pitfalls and accelerate growth. - Team Dynamics: A key aspect of Silicon Valley's success, according to Jason, lies in the team's ability to tackle any problem collectively. He emphasizes the importance of fostering a team culture where members feel empowered to solve challenges effectively. - Knowing the Value of Where You Come From: Jason shared how his humble beginnings led him to value education and seek out more in life. He explained how his drive was enriched by a self-funded education, a Fulbright scholarship, and graduate studies at Harvard. Jason Radisson started his career at McKinsey & Company, where he worked with the Firm's top clients in Spain, Germany, and Latin America on high-profile, M&A, organizational design, and workforce projects. As a Regional General Manager at Uber, he launched and grew cities in the western US. He was then hired to run Brazil's 99Taxis, where as COO he grew the business 10x on $50M in invested capital, and sold it to DiDi Chuxing for $1B, making it the most capital-efficient scale-up recorded by a gig marketplace. He is also a member of the Rappi-Mafia, where he was an early investor and helped the Rappi founders scale their Operations and Growth teams efficiently across Latin America. Today, more than 20 venture-backed CEOs are alumni of his earlier teams. Jason is passionate about using mobile technology and algorithms to empower and uplift the frontline workforce, which he believes is the foundation of the economy and society. He founded Movo to address the challenges and opportunities of digitizing this workforce, which is overlooked and underserved by the horizontal technology incumbents.
