"Don't come to sit on your hands and criticise" said Graeme Souness to the Rangers support via Radio Clyde in January of 1991, with his side 12 games into an unbeaten of 17 - the longest of his reign. Despite a league position of great strength and a Old Firm cup win, Souness was losing control. The departure of Butcher, the loss of Kusnetzov, the hammering in Belgrade and the war with McCoist were just some of the flashpoints as the storm at Ibrox continued to rage. George Bowie is the undisputed King of breakfast radio in Scotland, and has transcended generations, decades and even genres. From keeping you company in the car on the way to school, to providing the tunes during pre-drinks on a Saturday, he's been a perpetual presence and one that will remain for a long time to come. We chat about George's first rudimentary DJ lessons as a teenager in his dad's club, while the DJ nipped off for a drink… George reflects on his start at Radio Clyde in somewhat understated circumstances, plus his very brief departure to a rival radio station in Scotland… And we chat about the popularity of the GBX, winning over George Michael, Ibiza madness at The Highlander and so much more. www.dontfretaboutdebt.net/blethered/ Contact: seanmcdonald.podcast@gmail.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/seanmcdonald01
There are some names in the radio industry that need no introduction. Shaun Tilley could be one of them, but I'm duty-bound to do one anyway. You know Shaun, of course you do. He's been on the radio in Wales, Scotland and England. And although he's already racked up four decades on the wireless, you wouldn't bet against him appearing on the Northern Irish airwaves before long! In this chat with Foxy, he talks about his time at Radio Luxembourg, Capital, Radio City, Radio Clyde and more. There's some industry legends names dropped (spoiler alert: Kenny Everett). And there's a story about a nightclub in Glasgow called Bonkers. Contains some fruity language and one or two tales not suitable for younger ears. "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! (aka a "GLT with me CG!")
Ladies n' Genminminminmin (er, min...) welcome to a very exciting Episode indeed! Yes, it's 'roll out the Red Carpet' time here in "The Good Listening To Show" Clearing as we warmly welcome Scottish TV Presenter & Broadcasting legend Ross King (MBE).Ross King is nothing short of a Broadcasting legend with 4 News Emmys, 2 Sony Awards, 1 Golden Mic - a Cycling Proficiency Test Certificate - a 25M Breastroke Certificate - a Duke of Edinburgh Award - and an Alan Partridge in a Pear Tree! A man completely at home on the red carpets of Hollywood at both the Oscars & the Golden Globes and always with his finger on the pulse of all the Showbizz news & gossip: As "Our Man in Hollywood" for the likes of the "Lorraine" Programme on ITV and "Good Morning Britain"!Multi-talented, multi-award-winning Hollywood ‘leg-end' Ross King is delightfully self-deprecating. Talking about his childhood dreams of playing professional football for Partick Thistle-nil, as he says Billy Connolly always called them, he quotes the manager's assessment of his talent in these words: “You'll wear out more mirrors, son, than football boots!” Or in reference to one of his many superstar interviews: “As George Clooney once said to me - ‘Get out of my garden!'” Ross King likes to make people laugh and is very happy to be the butt of the joke if that's what does the job. A great impressionist too with Sean Connory & Roger Moore to name but 2 (Ross is a self-confessed James Bond obsessive) with Ronnie Corbett as a cheeky-chappyand-much-shorter-chaser!He still describes himself as ‘a silly boy from Glasgow' who is delighted on a daily basis to be ‘a silly boy in Hollywood'. Ross King‘s feet remain comfortably on the ground, while his head is in the clouds. He says he is “too blessed to be stressed “. He constantly acknowledges all the people who have helped him get to where he is today - starting with his mum, dad and sister, moving on to his Maths Teacher, Roddy Hood, not for teaching him primary numbers or Pythagoras but for pointing him towards Hospital Radio aged 15. A year or so later, this led directly to Ross becoming the ‘Saturday Boy' for Radio Clyde. This good grounding experience as general factotum/gofer on live sports broadcasts provided Ross King with an early and an excellent show business portal. The record shows he made the most of it with a diverse and impressive body of work in various media for a variety of countries. Now with writing partner, Shari Low, Ross King has produced two books under the nom de plume Shari King. These are published by Macmillan and now the team has a third sparkling forward in the creative process. When Ross said he has red eyes, it's no wonder, given how much he has set himself to do. He is a humble man and yet he has so much to be proud of - some of which he talks about here. Listen up and be delighted! Reg Starkey Editor, Health Triangle Magazine“The Good Listening To: Your Life & Times With Me Chris Grimes!” is the Show & Podcast series that features “The Clearing”:Where all good Questions come to be asked - and all good Stories come to be told…Think 'Desert Island Discs' but in a Clearing - and with Stories rather than Music! With some lovely juicy Storytelling metaphors to also enjoy along the way:The Clearing itself - a Tree - a lovely juicy Storytelling exercise called “5-4-3-2-1” - some Alchemy - some Gold - a couple of random Squirrels - a cheeky bit of Shakespeare - and a CAKE!So it's all to play for! Hurrah!(…and indeed Huzzah!)Enjoy!
Is radio important? Tony Currie thinks so. This golden voiced Scottish radio legend started broadcasting in 1972 at KPFK in Los Angeles started Radio Clyde, Scotland's first independent local radio station, became an announcer on Scottish Television, became Controller of Programmes for the Cable Authority, and the ITC, Director for BBC Scotland's television channels BBC ONE Scotland and BBC TWO Scotland, chairing both the Royal Television Society Scotland and the Radio Academy in Scotland. He has written for countless newspapers and magazines and has many published books. He created Radio Six International which syndicates its programming to 56 radio stations around the world. We became friends when I was a BBC broadcaster in the 1990s and in this interview we waffle on about the history of radio, what broadcasting is and why it is important. Martin Frizell is editor of ITV’s This Morning. Beginning his career at Radio Clyde, he worked as a correspondent for Thomson Reuters and GMTV before his ten years in the editors chair famously came to an abrupt end. He then briefly entered the world of PR as an executive director at GolinHarris, before returning to television in 2014 as editor of Loose Women. After a year he took the helm at This Morning, one of the most prestigious editorships in UK television. In this in-depth interview, he shares his exhilarating and often heart-breaking adventures as a young correspondent (including the time he was begged by a Kurdish family to take their baby), argues that This Morning has acted as a ‘comfort blanket for the nation’ during lockdown, and shares his joy at the programme's campaigning successes - including ‘Project 84’ which directly led to the creation of a minister for suicide prevention.
This episode is a live recording from my Sunday show, Clyde's Smooth Sunday's on Shell Shock Bam. Sit back and relax and let yourself drift with this one.
SPFL TO RFC - WTF? It’s here, the dossier that everyone (well everyone in scottish football) was waiting for. The evidence, the whistle blower, the reports of bullying, the substantiation, the smoking guns, deep throat, the bombshells that would lead to the resignation of the CEO were all…well NOT there. Unfortunately RFC seem to confuse questions with evidence and fact with opinion. Following it’s publication, their CEO (who sits on the SPFL board that is so useless) appeared on Radio Clyde. after his appearance I’m even more confused as to what it is they want an inquiry into. Anyway, we set about trying to disect it the whole mess. I am joined by Anthony Murray and David Low to look at this as objectively as Celtic fans can. Enjoy…

Douglas McArthur OBE began his radio career at Radio Clyde before becoming the founding CEO of the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB). Across 14 years under his leadership, the RAB team led a highly-regarded marketing campaign for commercial radio that saw revenue rise from 2% of total advertising revenues to a peak of 7%. It is difficult to exaggerate the contribution Douglas made to commercial radio's fortunes - and he explained his approach in this 2013 Radiocentre interview to Trevor Dann as the industry marked its 40th anniversary and he was recognised by inclusion in its roll of honour. In his 35 years in the ad business, Douglas created the model to inspire trade and marketing bodies for other media, including Thinkbox, Newsworks and Magnetic. Douglas died in July 2019
Celtic legend Billy McNeill has died aged 79. He was first Briton to lift the European Cup when Celtic beat Inter Milan 2 - 1 in Lisbon in 1967. He recalled that day, and other highlights of his career, in a Radio Clyde in a programme recorded with Sheila Duffy in 1997 to mark the 30th anniversary
This is the story of a man who began in television before discovering commercial radio as it launched in his beloved Scotland. In this hour of #radiomoments ‘Conversations’, Lord Gordon of Strathblane, now aged 80, tells of the birth of Radio Clyde against a backdrop of failing stations in England. He shares tales of successes and frustrations; his famous ‘mother and chicks’ radio ownership theory; and the acquisitions he tackled as his company grew. He tells too of his other significant roles and taking up his seat in the Lords; and reflects on the challenges ahead for media. In his own words, this is the Jimmy Gordon story. Jimmy died in April 2020. The whole 'Conversations' series can be found here (https://www.davidlloydradio.com/conversations) . Music by Larry Bryant (http://www.larrybryant.com) .

We discuss the young players at Fir Park and ask who in Scottish football is Ajax? Is it Hamilton? Is Lewis Ferguson Frenkie De Jong? Will Hearts be on a European tour next season? Did they score the minciest goal of the season? The broadcaster Mike Riddoch has died. He's best known for his work at Radio Clyde and earlier in his career, BBC Radio Manchester. I worked with Mike during his time at Scot FM and 96.3 QFM in Paisley. He was a terrific broadcaster and a great person to be around, as can be seen from the many fond memories being shared about him today by those who knew him. I have a few thoughts of my own about our time as colleagues which I'm sharing here.

Andrew Slaven, JJ Bull and Anthony Joseph brave the studio to discuss an international break that has made them feel totally Scottish. It was a horror show in Haifa in the Nations League before a home humbling against Portugal. Are the new Scotland just too new? Stefan Bienkowski from the Two Point One is cynical of the cynicism and thinks this is the beginning of a long-term project under Alex McLeish. But it’s more fun to look back than it is forward. So, we reminisce about one night in Paris where James McFadden scored from an ever-changing distance to beat France as the Tartan Army dreamed of qualification for Euro 2008 - under a young manager by the name of McLeish. Peter Martin, he of the iconic commentary on Radio Clyde, gives us his version of events. Whether you were in The Bobbin or the bog, it was one of the greatest nights to be a Scotland fan. And on a broader point, was the 2007/08 season the best season ever for Scottish football? • PART 1: Introduction + JJ’s written a song (0m 00s) • PART 2a: Israel 2-1 Scotland (2m 50s) • PART 2b: Scotland 1-3 Portugal with Stefan Bienkowski from the Two Point One (8m 50s) • PART 3a: One Night In Paris: Scotland’s qualifying campaign beforehand (14m 00s) • PART 3b: Interview with Peter Martin, Radio Clyde commentator that night in Paris, now at PLZ Soccer (19m 00s) • PART 3c: That Scotland team that beat France (24m 00s) • PART 3d: What happened after Paris? The programs of Hurston/Wright include annual weeklong creative writing workshops; Saturday creative writing classes for teens that run during the entire academic school year; the first national award presented to Black published authors by their peers; and the only award in the nation presented to Black college writers for excellence in previously unpublished works. In as much as a book/literature has little value without a reader, Hurston/Wright has also developed Project Read: An Active Literacy Program that teaches children to become proficient or advanced for their grades in language arts including reading, writing, critical thinking, and public speaking.
