GB Asks:Are You A Military Veteran? at The Message Board Jason Pike Author of the book A Soldier Against All Odds. A decorated combat veteran with multiple deployments, who served 31 years in the US Army including nine years overseas in five countries #Army,#Author,#Careers,#Disability,#Inspiring,#Life Mastery,#Mental Health,#Military,#Resilient Survivor,#Veteran, Biography A decorated combat veteran with multiple deployments, Lt. Col. Jason G. Pike, USA, Retired, served 31 years in the United States Army as both an enlisted and officer, including nine years overseas in five countries. Jason earned over 30 service awards & badges and survived a wicked amount of military training.  His first book, A Soldier Against All Odds, compiles all his life events in an inspiring storytelling format with the ups and downs of a life in uniform. His diversity of Army jobs, assignments, and schools from age 17 to 48 sets this military memoir up differently than most.  Jason's brutal honesty on how he did it while disclosing many sacred secrets about how he survived is unique. With a straightforward account of one man's journey, he inspires audiences nationwide at speaking events and shows how to be resilient and to persevere no matter what disadvantages and life struggles may happen. After having walked through the VA benefits bureaucracy and endless paperwork, Pike has made it his business to master getting the benefits he earned, and he now has a much-needed blueprint to help other veterans do the same. His second book, Out of the Uniform, Back into Civilian Life, is an invaluable resource for veterans seeking clear, actionable guidance to navigate the often complex landscape of VA benefits and assistance programs. Desired CTA Send Audience To: https://www.amazon.com/Soldier-Against-All-Odds-Memoir-ebook/dp/B0BR2SHZJ1?ref_=ast_author_mpb Get a copy of A Soldier Against All Odds, and be inspired by the lessons Jason learned through the course of his life and his military career—an inspiration to anyone confronting the future from a place of disadvantage. About Jason Pike The Army investigated him, arrested him, and tried to break him. LT. Col. Jason Pike is undoubtedly A Soldier Against All Odds. National Best Selling Author and Book."  A decorated combat veteran with multiple deployments, Jason Pike is the author of two books: an inspiring memoir and a book filled with actionable guidance to help others navigate the complex landscape of VA benefits. He not only survived 31 years in the service, but he keeps thriving. Pike has made it his business to help other veterans succeed just as he did. Starting from the bottom, as a private, and working his way through the ranks, Pike tells his story with wicked whit and shows us the price he paid for his service - as well as a glimpse into the adventure of life in the Army, including 9 years of living overseas.  Diagnosed at age seven with an acute learning disability and failing first grade that year, Jason Pike was sent back to repeat it. At age nine, he was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, a crippling bone disease dissolving the bone of his knee that added to his academic challenges and a significant physical disadvantage. With more than three decades of national guard and active service, after starting his military career at seventeen and retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was told that none of it would be possible. For that advice, there were indeed excellent grounds. His story, therefore, is one of survival, perseverance, and a refusal to quit, no matter what, a characteristic gifted to him by his father. Once he did it, everyone asked, "How the hell did you do it?" And many times, he had asked himself the same question…  In A Soldier Against All Odds, Jason Pike shows that It is possible, through determination and careful application, and bold strategy to overcome and compensate for so many roadblocks. He did pay the price for being himself. Join us and see how he survived it ALL! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bhsales/message

U.S. Army Veteran David Touchton served in Operation Enduring Freedom, deploying to the Middle East on September 9, 2001, just two days before the September 11 attack. On the FourBlock Podcast this week, David shares the impact that had on him and his fellow service members, his career path, and his commitment to continuing to pay it forward to fellow veterans today. David spent several years in the Army before receiving an honorable discharge due to an injury and going into the private sector. He held multiple positions of escalating responsibility as a Facility Security Officer before making the leap to launch his own security company. Founded in 2013, FSO Services helps companies ensure the best security posture against today's modern threats. In conversation with host Mike Abrams, David explains how he transitioned into a career in industrial security and how he got the idea to start his company serving clients that work with the Department of Defense. He identifies some of the biggest challenges and threats that clients could face as they safeguard national security information and how FSO Services helps resolve them. To close out the episode, David shares the reasons he feels veterans have an advantage when transitioning into industrial security and what steps they can take to successfully move into the industry.   ABOUT US Welcome to the FourBlock Podcast, a show that examines veteran career transition and the military-civilian divide in the workplace. General Charles Krulak coined the term "Three Block War" to describe the nature of 21st-century military service defined by peace-keeping, humanitarian aid, and full combat. But what happens next? Veterans are often unprepared to return home and begin new careers. We call this the Fourth Block.  FourBlock is a national non-profit that has supported thousands of transitioning service members across the nation in beginning new and meaningful careers.  Mike Abrams (@fourblock) is an Afghanistan veteran, founder of FourBlock, and author of two military transition books. He represents the military transition perspective. Lindsey Pollak (@lindsaypollak) is a career and workplace expert and New York Times bestselling author of three career advice books. Lindsey represents the civilian perspective of this issue.  Veterans, explore new industries and make the right connections. Find a career that fits your calling. After two tours to Iraq, the ugly under belly of war was beginning to have it's effect on her in the form of PTSD.In addition to that, while working she fell 20 feet and cracked a vertebrate. Her doctors told her that she probably would not walk again. Bridget went into a deep depression and considered suicide as the answer. However she remembered a coloring book that a relative had given her to years earlier, that coloring book and God's amazing grace is at the center of her healing.

Imagine the city you live in right now running out of water. And I mean just plain out of it. At first, it's a comical yet worrisome thought, right? What would you drink? How would you shower? What would you swim in? The list goes on. Now let's say you could do something to work against that or even prevent it. Where would you start? Or How? Or even would you? This simple question sparked a sense of service and care in this week's guest, former police officer and veteran, David McDonald.  David spent decades of his life serving how he knew best, whether in Desert Storm, deep in the communities of Austin, and now, he's set his sights on something even closer to home.  With his response to that water question being, "Yes, now how do I get involved?" He decided to try to join his city's council to make a difference. And he did just that by knocking on hundreds of doors campaigning for a position without pay, going on to win his runoff, and getting himself elected to since the time of this filming.  He did all that while serving in marriage ministry alongside his wife and mentoring local youth as a certified Purpose Pro mentor and guide.  David is a prime example of a value highlighted here by one of our co-hosts in this episode: You can do so much more with the 5 miles around your house than the 500 miles. Where your arms can reach is who you can most easily touch and impact.  David got off his couch in retirement and chose to do more than he was asked by impacting teens, marriages, and his city in the process. All because someone asked him, what if we don't have water?  Which led to: What if you can change that? What if you can impact this marriage? Or this teen? How could that change the trajectory of their life? Maybe all of that starts with clicking play on this episode, and then taking that inspiration even further by investing in the life of a teen just down the road from you. So go listen and then head over to PurposePro.Org to find out how you can be a certified Purpose Pro Certified Guide!
