Nebraska had the home fans nervous through 75% of the game against Maryland, and then their early-season offense showed up, as Rienk Mast reverted to something much closer to his early season form and the Huskers end up winning comfortable again as a big favorite. Jack and Kaleb convene after the game to try and not use hindsight in describing just now nervous they were, and take a look at what seemed to holding the Huskers' offense back during the first half (besides just missing shots). On the other hand, Jack explains why his takeaway from the game won't be the first 75% of the game, but instead, the last ten minutes where the Nebraska offense came alive, and the surprise player he thinks was the key to the suddenly alive offense. The guys disagree on the Ryan Anderson Memorial (he's not dead) Player of the Game and break down the horse race Nebraska will have with Purdue and Illinois, not only for conference tourney placement, but in sorting out #7-11 in the current committee rankings. And finally, before Nebraska takes on USC, the guys talk about a weirdly exciting Thursday and Friday night of Big Ten basketball coming up in the 48 hours after the show, and an up-to-the minute look at the current Big Ten Conference Tournament bracket!Support the I-80 Club Road Show by buying a hoodie here. -It was a slow start, with the Huskers falling behind 20-12 in the first half before taking a one-point halftime lead….then Pryce Sandfortand Sam Hoiberg took over in the second half to overcome an off-day from Rienk Mast and win comforbably-There was lots of groaning from the fanbase during the game and on social media after despite winning by 19…as if they forgot thatthis Northwestern team led Michigan at home by 16 points in the 2 nd half just days prior…fandom rears its ugly headOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
The Huskers do it again! A weird, kind of bad half, and then they run away with it, beating Northwestern 68-49. But before the good, the guys dissect the unusual turnover-fest, where the Huskers through basically the same amount of interceptions in one 10-minute stretch of basketball as Aaron Rodgers did the entire 2025 NFL season. And while Rienk Mast seemed completely recovered from his illness a week ago against Rutgers, he had a hard time of it today. The guys try to identify how much of that had to do with a minor pregame injury and evaluate their level of concern. But, like beautiful Spring morning, the sun rose in the second half as Nebraska held Northwestern to 15 points over the last 17ish minutes of the game. Kaleb identifies the key adjustments Nebraska made to turn the tide and how Sam's defense turned into Pryce points (was that a "quiet" 29?). And meanwhile… was this Cale Jacobsen's best ever game at Nebraska? Are we victims of recency bias? It's a Split Vote on the Ryan Anderson Memorial (he's not dead) MVP award; you tell us if Jack or Kaleb was right! Finally, another wet spot on the floor, the lights randomly going out, more stories from Kaleb at PBA, an oddly favorable Big Ten Tourney situation that may be developing, and a look ahead to a late night roadie to Iowa on Tuesday. The Nebrasketball Hour is proudly sponsored by Nebraska Realty! -Let's go back first to Saturday's game at Rutgers and hit on the One Piece Anime promotion…what was the crowd like and when didthey get the cards?-Rienk Mast had been off of his ‘A' game for a month and delivered a 26-point performance on Saturday at Rutgers…how importantwas that to him AND the team to see him play well again?-What's the scouting report on next-level for this Nebraska team? -There was absolutely zero shame in either of the 2 losses coming into Saturday's game---at Michigan and home vs. Illinois----butHusker fans don't know what a successful basketball team looks like and had some trepidation-That fear was eased by a 14-point halftime lead and a comfortable lead the entire 2 nd half….and Rienk Mast looked great, scoring 26points on 11/20 shooting. That's a real reason for a sigh of relief. Nebraska gets back on the winning track against Rutgers and the guys start the show by trying to figure out why the game was a 12-point win that felt like a 30-point win. But, more importantly, Rienk Mast came back in a big way, and Jack and Kaleb assessed what it was, beyond not vomiting constantly, that made February Rienk look like November/December Rienk. Beyond that, a deep dive into how Rutgers had perhaps the best ever performance in history of making bad-idea shots by a team that lost by double digits, how Sam Hoiberg tried to equal the level of effort by the entirety of the Scarlet Knights, Pryce and Frager getting to take a break from carrying the offensive load, and Cale Jacobsen's continued evolution. Plus, the Ryan Anderson Memorial (he's not dead) Player of the game is a spit decision, a live reaction to the end of Oregon/Purdue, and setting the scene for what is going to be yet again a wild night Tuesday at PBA when the Boliermakers come to town; it's a game where Nebraska has an opportunity to gain back anything that was lost with its tough last week. The Nebrasketball Hour is proudly sponsored by Nebraska Realty! Plus, Sam Hoiberg responds to being called an "NAIA" player, Rienk Mast continues to be a nightmare to defend and Berke comes up huge on the boards. The guys also get gaudy with their NCAA tournament confidence ratings after this one and preview a matchup with Wisconsin in just a couple days where the Huskers will likely be ranked. For more content like this, become a Patron today for as low as $5 a month: patreon.com/i80club | For more on Husker sports, visit huskermax.com Hosted on Acast. Cole Stukenholtz & Nate Rohr break down Husker volleyball's NCAA Tournament path. NU swept their first round match and will play Kansas State on Saturday in the second round. Kent Pavelka, legendary voice of Husker men's hoops, joins the guys to talk Nebrasketball's hot start, Rienk Mast's immediate brilliance after returning from a year off, and Sunday's game against Creighton. Cole & Nate pay tribute to Emmett Johnson, who was named Big Ten RB of the Year and First-Team All-B1G. Johnson declared for the NFL Draft on Friday and has likely played his last down for Nebraska. Husker women's hoops is at Penn State Saturday and may crack the Top 25 if they win. GBR!!
Cole Stukenholtz & Nate Rohr start with the fun stuff, discussing the third straight B1G Volleyball championship as NU is one match away from a perfect regular season. Next up after the finale vs Ohio State is the NCAA Tournament. The guys then turn to the not-so-fun topic of Nebraska-Iowa football, which again went the Hawkeyes' way in blowout fashion. They break down the likely next steps for the off-season, including the will-he-or-won't-he Dylan Raiola decision. Plus, transfer shopping lists for the offense and defense. Finally, basketball. Both the men and women won multi-team events and are undefeated on the season. The early stars Rienk Mast and Britt Prince have Cole & Nate optimistic about their NCAA Tournament chances for both squads. Lastly, some breaking news just as the show was ending - Connor Essegian is out for the season with an ankle injury. Tough break for the men's team as they lose a good shooter. By next Saturday, volleyball will already have started their tourney journey as they hunt for the national title. GBR!!!

Basketball After TCU Starts at 1:00 Gee golly willickers that was a lot of turnovers. Michigan's team of point guards has none, unless you want to call Danny Wolf the point. Weird game where they turned the ball over 16 times, most of those steals, and still led at the half because when they do get a shot it's always at the rim or an open look from three. How to get Goldin involved? He's not really into the game, not just on his teammates not seeing him, but it's that as well. Walters is the most efficient offensive player in CBB but he's playing the same position as Wolf. Trying to figure out how the lineup shakes out because we're not going to have an eleven-man rotation all year. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Big Ten Basketball Preview: The Bottom Nine to Kenpom Starts at 29:14 Washington: Great Osobor was a great portal pickup but they can't keep C Franck Kepnang healthy. Rice transfer Mekhi Mason and NoDak transfer Tyree Ihenacho are uptransfers who had high usage at the 3 and 2, Butler transfer DJ Davis doesn't really do to for us either. Injuries already. Predicted finish: 18th. USC: They got Terrance Williams and they're all Terrance Williamses: 6'7” guys who can shoot save for “PG” Desmond Claude. Already injured. Projected finish: 16th. Minnesota: Speaking of injuries already; Year 4 for Johnson is another Year Zero after the guy they spent on in the portal got hurt. Seth likes (and pronounces) Lu'Cye Patterson at PG, and we all respect Dawson Garcia, but with their only other returner being carried off the court it could be rough. Predicted finish: 17th. Nebrasketball: Welcome to The Great Mid: Every basketball team from here on save Purdue is ranked closely together. Close loss to St Mary's in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Injury to stretch 5 Rienk Mast really hurts them. We like Brice Williams and Juwan Gary, think Rollie Worster from Utah is a decent PG, but lost too much to make the tournament. Predicted finish: 15th. Rutgers: This is where I'm mad about the Kenpom format. Two top-5 freshmen join a very good backcourt of Williams and Derkack, but the loss of their center looms large. Problem is spacing. Predicted finish: 5th. Northwestern: Respectable loss at Dayton (71-66) and nonrespectable OT win vs #324 Eastern Illinois. No more Boo, and you can't make Ty Berry into that guy. Matthew Nicholson is a truck driver, Brooks Barnhizer has a bad stache, Nick Martinelli will have to drive the team. True freshman PG? Ew. Predicted finish: 12th. Iowa: Payton Sandfort is going to have to shoot, and shoot he shall. Josh Dix is going to have to take on a lot more usage unless Brock Harding can learn to score. Will be bad on defense but mid their way to wins with Owen Freeman the latest yucky C. Predicted finish: 13th. Michigan State: What are they doing in this section? It's a very Izzo team, with no idea what they're doing at C because nobody gets developed, and nobody making threes. But they do have athletes and Izzo will make them play defense. Frankie Fidler from Neb-Omaha was the top transfer in the conference, Jaden Akins and Jeremy Fears have talent. They'll be…MSU. Predicted finish: 5th, deservedly 8th. Maryland: I don't know any of these guys –Brian. Julian Reese at center you know. They're heavily reliant on a #12 overall Derik Queen, a one-and-done at the wing, but that's working so far, got a 4-point loss to Marquette out of him. Ja'Kobi Gillespie and Selton Miguel are a decent backcourt. Very mid. Predicted finish: 11th. 3. Big Ten Basketball Preview: The Top Nine to Kenpom Starts at 1:01:27 Penn State Way high at #34 due to a win over (very bad, no PG) Virginia Tech. Ace Baldwin is the latest PG who carries them, though there's some upside in Tennessee transfer Freddie Dilione. Predicted finish: 14th. Oregon is also rated too highly. Altman gets the kinds of guys who get rated for NBA purposes but makes decent teams out of them. C Nate Bittle and SF TJ Bamba are good enough to carry them, got an efficient PF from Stanford and upgraded PG Jackson Shelstad to a sophomore, so they're mid. Predicted finish: 10th. Indiana got some decent portal pickups but let's say it again: no shooting! We like former 5-star Stanford transfer Kanaan Carlyle and PG Myles Rice from P12, Oumar Ballo is 5-star from Zona to rim protect. So athletic, so little shooting. Predicted finish: 9th. Michigan 6th. Wisconsin: Back to being extremely Wisconsin including a 103-88 win vs Zona that featured a parade of whistles. Steven Crowl is now a point center extraordinaire, Nolan Winter is the next 6'11” shooter and rebounder, John Blackwell, Max Klesmit, and former CSU guard John Tonje can all play but not well enough to go to the NBA. PG Camren Hunter injury could set them back. Predicted finish: 4th. Ohio State: Led the year off with a win over Texas and a closs loss at A&M. Kept Bruce Thornton out of the draft and got back Meechie Johnson from a two-year lease to South Carolina. Added bigs from UK and Duke so maybe they can defense their way through the season. Predicted finish: 7th. Illinois: Only returning starter is burlyguard Ty Rodgers but they picked up two internationals who are Working Out: see threeing the hell out of Bama in a surprising road win. Ivisic is a 5-star little bro of the UK/Arkansas one, Kasparas Jakucionis is a lottery pick, Evansville transfer ben Humrichous is a stretch 4 with range, and backup PG from Zona Kylan Boswell and L'vile transfer Tre White have evident talent. Upgraded to predicted finish: 2nd. UCLA: Have a loss to New Mexico (not too bad and UCLA shot 5/23). Might be a defensive nightmare. Got Eric Dailey who we wanted, also Tyler Bilodeau, an Iggy like PF. Skyy Clark is not a good basketball player but Mick Cronin manages to win in ways Brian hates. Predicted finish: 3rd. Purdue: Matt Painter is the best coach in CBB. In the latest episode of Half-Court Press, Wilson Moore and Jon Walker recap the first few weeks of Creighton and Nebraska's preseason and preview both teams' groups of guards. The guys open with thoughts from Creighton's first practice and the transition between eras that is underway as the Bluejays move on from Trey Alexander and Baylor Scheierman, with Ryan Kalkbrenner as the bridge in between. The duo break down CU's big question which is how can Greg McDermott make these new pieces work? Jon talks about Jasen Green who's been the bright spot of the preseason for Creighton and how he improved in the offseason. Wilson then breaks down what he learned from Nebraska media days which is the Huskers still have leadership in Rienk Mast but Juwan Gary and Brice Williams have taken those roles as the leaders of the program and were the team's representatives in Illinois. Wilson also takes a look at NU's backcourt group which includes two point guards — a big difference from last year. Jon's preview of the backcourt includes a breakdown of Pop Isaacs who will try and fill Alexander's spot. Another question he ponders is who will fill Francisco Farabello's important role off the bench? The guys roll through a few preseason notes including TV times for several Jay games, who's intriguing to watch at the Red-White scrimmage, who's to blame for Nebraska's new court design at Pinnacle Bank Arena and more.

So, where do the Huskers turn to replace his contributions?
-Mast was a 3rd team All-B1G player this season in his first year coming over from Bradley, and proved to be a good 3-point threat when he was on-Mast averaged 12.3ppg and 7.5rpg last season, and was good more often than bad in Nebraska's run to the NCAA Tournament…how does this affect your view on next year's team?-Also, ROLL CALL (sponsored by Madsen's Bowling & Billiards): where are people listening from today?Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

-It's hard to push back on the choice to have co-coaches of the year, with Painter doing a phenomenal job at Purdue (who will be a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament), and Hoiberg, who will also be in the NCAA Tournament. The path for Fred took a while but eventually came through-Keisei Tominaga was 2nd team All-B1G by the Coaches (3rd team by Media), and Rienk Mast was 3rd team by Coaches….the first time Nebrasketball has had 2 players make an all-conference team since 1998-99!!-Also, Nebraska baseball traveled to Wichita State last night…did Will Bolt's squad get a nice road win?Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

-Katz has covered the B1G at length the last few years; Nebraska's Rienk Mast was the only player on his 1st through 3rd All B1G teams (Mast was on the 2nd team). Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer take you through the action, including a gutty near triple-double effort from Brice Williams, clutch shots from CJ Wilcher and Keisei Tominaga, more defense to offense from Sam Hoiberg and at the center of it all a fast start from Rienk Mast in his biggest test yet.
