Are you seeking to build your reputation and patient base within interventional oncology? In this episode, host Dr. Zachary Berman interviews Dr. Siddarth Padia, Dr. Tyler Sandow, Dr. Kavi Krishnasamy, and Dr. Kevin Burns about their journeys into interventional oncology (IO) and their experiences providing care in different practice settings. Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants can follow this link to earn CME / CE credits for completing an accredited learning activity related to this discussion: https://www.cmeuniversity.com/course/take/125742 --- This podcast is supported by an educational grant from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and Boston Scientific. --- SYNPOSIS The doctors begin by discussing how they became interested in interventional oncology, with most of them recognizing opportunities to address unmet needs in the field. Each guest shares insights on the timelines and challenges involved in starting their IO practices, which vary significantly today. For instance, telehealth clinics are particularly viable in private practice IO, thanks to conferencing software and virtual translators. Hybrid care models, which combine in-person and remote consultations, can help overcome patient-level barriers such as time and transportation. The panel also emphasizes how increased clinic availability can significantly drive growth in procedural volume. Finally, they offer advice for starting an IO practice, including the importance of having clinic support staff, building strong relationships with referring physicians, and staying up to date with new technologies. --- TIMESTAMPS 00:00 - Introduction 05:38 - Balancing Career Interests and Expectations 07:10 - Building an Interventional Oncology Practice 13:42 - Gaining Trust from Referring Physicians 17:33 - Importance of Open Communication 19:19 - Comparing Clinic Settings 26:01 - Essential Components of a Clinic 33:28 - Narrowing Your Interventional Practice 40:09 - Introducing New Technology --- RESOURCES CME Accreditation Information: https://f7cae4ec-b69e-490d-9e0f-19b16a6f146d.usrfiles.com/ugd/f7cae4_a7c37ea3cd1b4d3fa53d5edf8dfe255b.pdf
For hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who are not candidates for liver transplant or resection, lesion ablation can be a curative treatment. With multiple ablation options available and still under investigation, it can be challenging to navigate the differences between them. In this episode, Dr. Tyler Sandow hosts a discussion with interventional radiologists Dr. Kirema Garcia-Reyes, Dr. Sabeen Dhand, and Dr. Kevin Burns on the various ablation options for HCC and when to use each one. Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants can follow this link to earn CME / CE credits for completing an accredited learning activity related to this discussion: https://www.cmeuniversity.com/course/take/125738" --- This podcast is supported by an educational grant from: AstraZeneca https://www.astrazeneca.com/our-therapy-areas/oncology.html With additional support from: Boston Scientific https://www.bostonscientific.com/en-US/medical-specialties/interventional-radiology/interventional-oncology.html --- SYNPOSIS The doctors first discuss Barcelona-Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) Stage A patients, where lesion size and location are key factors in deciding between ablation and transarterial therapies. They then compare cryoablation and microwave ablation, highlighting that cryoablation offers better visualization and control of the ablation zone, while microwave ablation is more effective for treating larger lesions. Dr. Burns introduces histotripsy, a noninvasive treatment that uses ultrasound energy to mechanically ablate tumors. He shares his experiences as an early adopter of this technology and discusses how intraoperative cone beam CT can help treat lesions located near critical structures or those poorly visualized on ultrasound. Finally, Dr. Garcia-Reyes and Dr. Berman provide insights into patient selection, pre-procedural imaging, and technical tips for Y90. --- TIMESTAMPS 00:00 - Introduction 02:04 - Ablation vs Y90 in BCLC A Patients 05:58 - Same-Day Y90 15:55 - Y90 for Large Tumors 17:51 - Ideal Cases for Cryoablation 19:38 - Explanation of Histotripsy 32:09 - Procedural Specifics for Histotripsy 38:21 - Technical Tips for Y90 --- RESOURCES Including the Hollow Viscera (Stomach or Bowel) within the Ice Ball during Cryoablation: A Review of Adverse Events (Abramyan et al, 2024): https://www.jvir.org/article/S1051-0443(24)00681-X/abstract

This week we discuss the wrentit with Kevin Burns! You've probably heard this bird's call in many movies and tv shows, but only seen it if you've been to California or Oregon. They are one of the most sedentary birds in North America, but somehow their closes relatives are in Asia. Kevin Burns joins us again to discuss the Inti Tanager. Kevin is an ornithologist and professor of biology at San Diego State University and goes way back with Shannon and John. Kevin tells us all about the story of this bird, from the sighting in the early 2000's in Peru, to it finally being described as a species 20 years later. The bird earned the nickname the 'Kill Bill Tanager' due to its bright yellow feathers and black brow which resembled Uma Thurman's outfit in the movie. We're not quite sure how we feel about the nickname, but hopefully that paints a picture for you. We also answer a question on a leucitic red-tailed hawk that was seen in Michigan. This week's episode with Kevin Burns is on Darwin's Finches. Kevin and Shannon's research reclassified Darwin's Finches as Tanagers, so we hear all about what the process was like, and learn more about Darwin's Finches in this week's episode. Kevin, an ornithologist and professor of biology at San Diego State University, goes way back with Shannon and John, and led the research that reclassified what exactly a tanager is.John Bates, Shannon Hackett, RJ Pole, Amanda Marquart and Kevin Burns are Birds of a Feather Talk Together this week. This week we talk to Kevin Burns about Tanagers. Kevin, an ornithologist and professor of biology at San Diego State University, goes way back with Shannon and John, and led the research that reclassified what exactly a tanager is and what it isn't. Many birds which have the common name Tanager, such as the scarlet tanager or western tanager, aren't actually tanagers, and birds like Darwin's finches actually are tanagers. Many of you might already know this, but we get to talk to Kevin about what exactly went into this research, and what that process was like. We also hear some fun stories about Kevin, John, and Shannon in the field studying birds, and talk about how impressive many of the different tanagers are.We also answer a question on fall migration. Purchase the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Today-Best-Day-My-Life/dp/B0DBJNP92T Rev. Kevin Burns (KB) Growing up in a large family meant there was always something to do and always someone to play with. But sometimes I wanted to be left alone. During those times, I went to my bedroom and lay on the bed and thought about life. I thought about decisions people make, why people do what they do, and why bad things happen to good people. You know, things that a lot of people think about. Rev. Dr. Kevin Riggs (KR) It all started with an article in my local newspaper. The article stated that over the next thirteen months Tennessee would carry out ten executions It had been more than a decade since an execution. Now, in a relatively short time, Tennessee would murder 13 percent of the total population of men and women on death row. Not long after I read the article, I heard the Spirit say, "Go to death row." At the time I did not know where death row was in Tennessee. Knowing I heard God speak, I did some research, made some phone calls, and by the end of that summer, made my first visit to Unit Two at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution, the home of Tennessee's death row. That was over ten years ago. While ten executions over thirteen months never happened, during the past five years, there have been seven executions. I've said goodbye to seven friends, all of which were image bearers of the Divine. “Today is the Best Day of My Life” has been the life theme of Kevin Burns ever since he landed on Death Row more than 30 years ago. Kevin Burns is one of the pastors at Franklin Community Church and the “in-residence” pastor of Riverbend Maximum Security Correctional Facility's The Church of Life – the only church on a death row anywhere in the United States. Kevin Burns will be with us, via cell phone, in this podcast along with Franklin Community Church's senior pastor, Kevin Riggs. In 1992 Kevin was caught in a gun fight in Memphis in which two people were killed. Three people, including Kevin, were convicted of felony murder, although Kevin did not actually kill anyone. The other two, who did commit the murders and were convicted, are now out on parole. Kevin is still awaiting his execution. His case was appealed to the Supreme Court, which in April refused to review it in spite of the strong objections of Justices Sotomayor, Jackson, and Kagan. A year after Kevin's arrest, God called him to become a believer. “God has the ability to change people,” he says. “There is that opportunity for salvation, for reconciliation, for God to restore lives.” It's not often that we have a speaker at our little breakfast group that is featured in a national television story the same month they are at NCS. We'll provide more details about an upcoming ABC News story about the inconsistences of felony murder convictions in the United States that features Kevin Burns.
THE BUNNY CHRONICLES - a History of Hugh Hefner & the Empire He Built - Playboy Magazine
It was 1990 when Richard Bann first visited Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion. Cinema and the importance of film preservation sparked a 30 year friendship. One that evolved into being closest of friends and an invitation to "Manly Night."Monday was always Manly Night, a gathering of Hef's closest friends who would nominate and vote on what film to screen after dinner: Dick Stewart, Ray Anthony, Mel Torme', Johnny Crawford, John Dante, Bob Ridgely, Chuck McCann, Peter Vieira, Ron Borst, Kevin Burns, Robert Culp, Fred Dryer, Jerry Vale, Richard Bann. In 1993 Dick Stewart and his wife Playmate, Anne Randall moved to Sun City. Dick went to Hef and suggested his seat at Hef's left hand should be given to Richard Bann, and Hef agreed. Brother Keith Hefner moved to Los Angeles from Aspen in 1997 coincident with Mel Torme's passing and his seat was given to Keith. "A seat at the table" was a big deal and not everyone who was close to Hef would receive that invitation by Hefner. Hefner was a creature of habit. Every week the calender would reflect nightly events. Events that were religiously held at the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills, for a span of 45 years.Tuesday Nights = GAME nightWednesday Nights = GIN nightThursday Nights = FAMILY night when Hefners boys, Marston and Cooper were young. Once the boys had grown up Thursday became a movie night.Friday Nights = CLASSIC FILM Night Saturday Nights = RERUN Movie ClassicsSunday Nights = screenings of yet to be released films. Straight from the studios, delivered UNDER lock AND key!! The films would arrive on reels and placed on Hefners equipment in in a hidden room behind the grand living room inside the library.Richard would write copious notes on each film before each movie night. Upon arriving at the Playboy Mansion, Richard would hand off his cliff notes to HEF. Hefner, the consimate editor would take Richards notes and create his presentation. A cherished moment we ALL loved. Hef in his silk pajamas and robe, in his wonderfully warm and intoxicating way would present a tender and brilliant; introspective and fascinating backstory on the film. It was "cinematic history" at it's pinnacle. We all shared the LOVE of movie nights held at the Playboy Mansion. The fondest memories we are so very lucky to share. #podcast - рецензия альбома Steve Fidyk Live Wire Broad Band • Red Beats ©️ 2023 Blue Canteen Music Musicians: Bandleader, drummer & composer: Steve Fidyk Organ: Brian Charette Piano: Christopher Ziemba Saxophones: Mark Allen, Mike Cemprola, Chris Farr, Daniel Henson, Joseph Henson Josh Lee, Xavier Perez, Walt Weiskopf Trumpets: Luke Brandon, Graham Breedlove, Kevin Burns, Andrew Carson, Thomas Eby, Tamela Fidyk, Matt Gallagher, Chris Kaplan, Tim Leahey, Tyler Mire, Fareed Simpson Hankins Trombones: Scott Blanke, Hailey Brinnel, Kevin Cerovich, Sam Gellerstein, Ian Kaufman, Jake Kraft, Randy Kapralick, Omeed E. Kevin Burns, Executive Director of Action Wellness and Robb Reichard, Executive Director of AIDS Fund Philly discussed Kevin's long career as he approaches his retirement. He spoke of his start, as a volunteer with a grassroots Action AIDS, supporting and caring for people dying of AIDS, through today, with the renamed Action Wellness, supporting people who are living with HIV. He discussed the growth of the agency, to encompass everything from HIV testing, to maternity care and support for those living with chronic illness not associated with their HIV. He and Robb spoke of the support they receive from AIDSFund Philly, funding that helps with direct patient care for expenses such as rent, bus tickets, co-pays or appliance repairs. We talked about the changing in care from a death sentence to prevention and therapies that can make the virus undetectable. We also discussed uptick in diagnosis, especially within communities of color, and the need for more education and awareness about PREP for prevention and new treatments. Finally, we discussed the annual AIDS Walk Philly and the upcoming black-tie Gay BINGO Gala March 25th where Kevin will honored with the Fierce and Fabulous Award for his work over the past 34 years. For more information visit actionwellness.org or AIDSFundPhilly.org.
"In Part 2 of Triple Vision's exploration of what is the single story behind governance at CNIB, Peter and Hanna speak with Mary Ellen Gabias and Albert Ruel about what they heard from Jane Beaumont and Kevin Burns in Episode 29. In our last podcast, Jane and Kevin discussed the CNIB governance structure from its origins to where it is today. At the end of this episode the Triple Vision team asked the question, “Do Canadian consumers who are blind, deafblind, and partially sighted share those same views?” In this episode, Mary Ellen and Albert talk frankly about what works for them and what does not coming out of CNIB's structure, governance and programs. “I get a lot of advice from my siblings, my husband, my children. What I do with advice is what most people do with advice. I take it under advisement and accept the advice that I like and reject the advice that I don't. CNIB as an entity does that too. But, I, as a consumer, if I think that the organization is going in the wrong direction, I can vote with my feet by not showing up, but beyond that there's very little that can be done.” Join the Triple vision team for Part 2 of this illuminating in-depth exploration of the single story of governance at CNIB." --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-best9/message
"The Triple Vision team starts a series on governance, in particular the governance story behind the CNIB. The team starts with a look back at how the CNIB was formed, and what it looks like now. David, Hanna and Peter speak to Jane Beaumont, CNIB Archivist and former Chair of its National Board, as well as Kevin Burns, a former Chair of CNIB's Governance Committee. Is it possible to determine the single story of an organization by how it is governed, by the rules and structures it operates under? How did the organization move from charity to a more modern approach to service delivery ... or did it? Tune into this week's Triple vision podcast and find out. “The issue, of course, is we are talking about working with disability at a time when, well, we call it disability studies now, but back then it was called something else. It was called charity. It was called helping out.
