The story so far: Three friends are trapped in an underground movie rental store managed by a magical anthropomorphic mole man, have adventures, and watch movies to pass the time and figure ways out of predicaments. More molescrolls continue to pop up!This week, we come across a brand new molescroll that's been hiding from us which could allow us to time travel! But, being a bunch of buffoons with little knowledge of how time travel works, we decide to check out Timecrimes (2007), the twisty time travel film from Nacho Vigalondo! As the concepts of non-linear time and predestination break our brains, we discuss our love of pac-man piggy banks and smashing glass, Greg's empathy for Hector's ordeal, our possible reactions to our future selves reaching back to us, and theories about the universe, simulation theory, and everything! So hop in your pool of white viscous fluid and join in on the fun of this timey-wimey trip!Leave us a 30 second voicemail and if we like it we'll play it on the show: (949) 4-STABBY (949-478-2229)Next movie announced every Wednesday. Zum Beispiel THE INVITATION, PORTO, TAROT - TÖDLICHE PROHPHEZEIUNG, FLUG 93, DIE LETZTE NACHT DER TITANIC oder THE WOLF OF WOLF STREET. Finally, we've come to the smoking hot "hellish causality loop in which free will doesn't exist — but in Spanish" of time travel: Timecrimes (or Los Cronocrímenes). Director Ignacio "Nacho" Vigalondo's time travel story follows our take on Looper. It's another time loop movie, but this time the loop is actually a loop, complete with the fatalistic feeling that it's impossible to break free, and that all of time — past, present and future — are already set. f you haven't seen Timecrimes, as always, listening to this episode will ruin it for you. So stream it beforehand! Phil and Nick recently revisited the movie and found that a few versions, including Amazon's, are only available dubbed and have sound issues. Check out the version on Vudu for the original Spanish audio track with English subtitles, which is the superior version. Oh, and sorry for the delay between episodes! One-half of a podcast duo becoming a father has some strange temporal stretching effects on the production of time travel story analyses, we've discovered. Finally, we've come to the hellish murder cruise of parenthood of time travel that is “Triangle.” For real, this is one Phil, as the resident horror movie fan, has been looking forward to for a while. This is definitely one of those movies you need to watch before we talk about it. More than the usual spoiler warnings here! “Triangle” is best experienced with zero understanding of it. The fact you're reading about it here, on our time travel podcast, is already a spoiler! Did you watch it? Okay. Moving on. “Triangle” is a 2009 horror movie that sneaks up on you as a time travel film. Though it never received a lot of fanfare, it's pretty impressive as both a horror movie and a time travel movie, getting a lot of the usual issues right throughout. Melissa George's protagonist character, Jess, is a solid time travel protagonist who understands her plight pretty quickly. Of course, things still don't go well for her. It's also a testament to writer and director Christopher Smith that “Triangle” is among the most internally consistent time travel movies we can think of. That's doubly impressive because it's a horror movie, where playing fast and loose with “rules” is often part of the approach, since feelings like fear and dread are paramount. So kudos to Chris! At least one of us is also excited to talk about a horror movie, something we don't get to do too often. Sorry if it sounds like Phil is gleeful about murder and dismemberment — he's not! At least, not outside the confines of horror films. Probably. We also talked about the similarities between “Triangle” and another movie: Nacho Vigalondo's “Timecrimes,” or “Cronocrimenes” in its native Spanish (an altogether even-cooler-sounding title, really). We recommend checking out the movie, then listening to the Paradox episode on “Timecrimes” as well.

Today, Secret Movie Club founder.programmer Craig Hammill looks at 1948's ROPE (comprised of only 11 shots and filmed to look like one continuous take) and 1963's THE BIRDS (in which seemingly docile everyday birds attack a small Northern Californian town with little to no explanation). I gave this film a 7/10 for providing just the nuts and bolts time travel quandries that I was looking for with this theme. We bring you the 11th episode of our specialty show "Take Out Edition" where we will explore the realms of foreign cinema.  Our hosts will take you along their travels all over the globe while diving into some of the most lucid storytelling, savage cannibals, vengeful spirits, sadistic killers, and post-apocalyptic zombie-plagued landscapes. Join us as we dissect the classics that prove sometimes fear comes with subtitles. Our hosts, Cameron Scott and filmmaker Daniel Goad (Parallells), take you on a Spanish voyage with the 2007 time travel/horror/dark comedy/science fiction extravaganza "TIMECRIMES" from director Nacho Vigalondo. This is cautionary tale of what happens when a man "accidentally" gets into a time machine and sets up a series of disasters which culminate in unfortunate outcomes.  Cinema Degeneration welcomes you to enjoy some Take Out while we explore the misadventures of Hector(s) as they face off against unlikely foes...themself!   "We still have a while before it starts raining."

Cursed Child Part Two Part One (Act 3) Wowza! This act is A Lot, but we are not immune to its charms. In the world of Evil Hogwarts, only the campiest survive... and even then some of them don't! We chat about the refreshing return to the tongue-in-cheek lower stakes presentation of the early novels that this play provides, as well as the few odd moments where it fumbles by reminding us that the series became Very Serious. We also have a blazing fast Evil Draco redemption arc, a Snape vs Umbridge title fight, and something called the Blood Ball... which we can only hope gets more time in the play itself. Finally, Liz takes us through an incredibly funny article from one of our favorite websites that is still Extremely Mad about this play all these years later.
