Josh's music has gained significant support from editorial playlists on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. He has also had huge success in the European music scene, as his previous single “Wanting” was played by Pete Tong and MistaJam on BBC Radio 1 in the UK and by Tiesto himself, on his weekly podcast. Josh's song “Take All I Am” was used on season 2 of the Netflix Original show The Order, and his song “Summertime” was used on the first season of Netflix Original Tiny Pretty Things. Josh recently also had 2 original songs placed in the third season of the hugely popular Netflix Original Love is Blind. Josh was also involved in the writing and singing on a major release by Sony India that has already amassed over 5 million views on YouTube. Josh has recently celebrated the release of his 2nd full-length album Mellowdrama and has had the opportunity to perform the new album on the main stage of the Calgary Stampede in July. “Josh Sahunta is one of those creative prodigies who excels at absolutely everything he touches.” – BK On The Scene
Hanukkah is almost here, and to celebrate, we've got two- wait a sec, our producers are saying something. They say that we didn't do enough CanCon this year. Well, shoot, I guess we gotta scrap the songs that we were- what's that? A producer is now telling me the two Hanukkah songs we're listening to this episode ARE Canadian! Phew, that's pretty convenient! "Happy Hanukkah" by Walk Off the Earth featuring Scott Helman and "Chanukah Christmas" by Shelley Posen bring us two different flavors of Canadian Chankuah celebrations in this- sorry, one moment. Uh huh, yup - a producer is letting me know that we also did this bit in the episode, and so doing it in the description doesn't make chronological sense. Well, that's unfotun- huh? What? "Happy Hanukkah" is originally a Matisyahu song but we didn't realize that while recording because Walk Off the Earth doesn't mention that in their video at all? Wow, thanks for the important correction, producers! The ranking music in this episode is "The Journey Starts Today" by Walk Off the Earth.

Whether it's her high-fashion yet effortlessly cool aesthetic, her irresistible blend of vintage pop and lush contemporary beats, or the raw honesty that comes through her lyricism, one thing is certain - there is a rarity about an artist such as RALPH. With an emphasis on narrative songwriting and genre-bending musical style (with a background in vocal jazz and folk music), RALPH has created a special role for herself within the contemporary music scene; a sound that is catchy but cool, sexy but smart, edgy but sophisticated. She's developed a soundscape that is uniquely her own, but what truly makes RALPH's songs special is that they are ferociously honest and relatable. This finesse sent her hit track “Gravity” up the radio charts into the Top 20, followed by a JUNO award nomination for Dance Recording of the Year. Starting with little more than talent and a vision, over the past five years RALPH has built an incredible following in the USA, Canada and Europe. She's joined the likes of Ria Mae, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Scott Helman on three cross-Canada tours, and has drawn crowds south of the border for a North American tour with US band JOAN. Earning over 35 millions streams across platforms and seeing her music featured across television networks such as E!, HBO, Freeform, CBC, and VICE, she has earned praise from a wealth of tastemaker press such as The FADER, Billboard, Paper, Paste, NYLON, V Magazine, Mother Jones, Interview Magazine, Elle Canada, Hollywood Reporter, Teen Vogue, and MTV News. She has also seen her face featured twice on the Dundas Square Amazon and Spotify billboards, and was the guest vocal coach on two episodes of Canada's Drag Race. The scope of RALPH's talent reaches far beyond her sonance; her aesthetic eye has served in the consistency of her photography and the artful approach to her music videos as she continues to grow not only as a pop-icon, but a style purveyor. Whether it's to catch the next look she'll be serving, or the next bop she'll be dropping, all eyes are on RALPH. Ralph's newest EP Gradience was just released July 2021, and her single ‘Tommy' is already being played on radios across Canada. She has a Canada headline tour booked for November 2021 and will be continuing her tour in January, visiting select cities in the USA. We all know that Branding is something that is very important for musicians. It's one of those things that can feel like just one more thing to add to the list of all of things you have to do as a musician in 2021, but it is one of the most important parts of being a musician. Figuring out who you are as a musician and how you're going to express that to the world, as an extension of your music, should be one of the first things you do in your music career. So the topic of this week's episode is Branding and Content Creation and joining me on the show is Brandon William Fletcher. Brandon is a Vancouver based art director and filmmaker and he runs his own Creative Studio called Faked Potatoes. His images and work have been commissioned by a wide range of clients including M83, Manila Grey, James Reid, Scott Helman, Warner Music Group, Universal Music, and Blonde Diamond. He's also a Board Member at Music BC and he recently made the Long List for the 2021 Prism Prize for "Best Music Video of the Year".Brandon and I had a great chat and I hope you enjoy it! The song was off his first studio album called Augusta. The hit opened the door to jumping on tour with artists like Shawn Mendes, Vance Joy, Tegan and Sarah and Walk Off The Earth. Since then he's toured all over the world as both an opener and a headliner.Scott's become a staple on Canadian radio producing hits like Hang Ups, Kinda Complicated and his platinum selling hit PDA.Scott's been nominated for a few Juno Awards, winning one in 2018 for Songwriter of the Year, he's been nominated for MMVA's and in 2016 he topped Teen Vogue's list of Voices to look out for.
Being a tour manager means being a logistics coordinator, accountant, event planner, human resources professional, crisis manager, and counselor. Everything that goes on during the tour - or leading up to it - runs through them. Really, it's one of the most important yet least-discussed jobs in the music business. That’s why Mike wrote a feature article for the March/April 2020 issue of Canadian Musician trying to make sense of tour managers’ responsibilities and share a few of their stories. One of those interesting and fun conversations for the magazine was with Erika Duffee, the go-to tour manager for Canadian pop-rock star Scott Helman and arena-filling Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi, among others, which we share on today’s episode. You'll hear about the many facets of this odd role along with some great stories from the road and other insights. http://canadianmusician.com This episode is sponsored by Bandzoogle. Having and relaying a clear idea of your identity, image, and overall narrative is vital to developing and maintaining a devoted fan base in today's super-saturated music business. But what should you be focusing on, and how should it be presented to make the biggest impact with your audience and the industry? Music industry veteran Steve Waxman has shaped the careers of some of Canada's best-known musical exports and joins us with answers to those questions.
