From the second half of the nineteenth century, Japan has been a particularly enthusiastic user of exhibitions. Large-scale international exhibitions, including Osaka 2025, form only the tip of an iceberg comprising over 1,300 industrial, regional, and local exhibitions held in Japan over the past 150 years. In Exhibitionist Japan: The Spectacle of Modern Development (Cambridge UP, 2025), Angus Lockyer explores how and why these events have been used as catalysts of development and arenas for fostering modern industry, empire, and nation. He traces their complicated genesis, realization, and reception, demonstrating that although they rarely achieve their stated aims, this does not undermine their utility - Japanese expos have provided a model subsequently adopted around the world. The history of this enthusiasm provides a more nuanced understanding of development in modern Japan, and emphasizes the shared experiences of global modernity. Learn more about your ad choices. The clean-up has begin in the Lockyer Valley in Queensalnd where residents find themselves in an all-too-familiar flood risk situation.
A major flood warning is in place for the Lockyer Valley as a severe storm system moves through the area. Lockyer Valley Councillor and Deputy Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, Michael Hagan, told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, "So we've had to enact some emergency warnings." "The police did another door knocking in Grantham, and then we had to actually set off our flood warning system, which is a siren at Grantham." "So we've had great help from all emergency services," Councillor Michael Hagan continued.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The lads then reflect on the negative news regarding the two Tom's – Lockyer and Krauss with the former having an injury setback and the latter ending his loan spell prematurely. The boys then turn their attention onto the match and highlight the form and dangers that Sheffield Wednesday enter the contest with before looking at how Luton could line up with their new signings. When we think about consuming art, whether reading a book, visiting a museum, or maybe watching an outdoor performance act, we rarely consider the administrative efforts that go into making art possible. Creative administration is an evolving field that considers the innovation and organizational management necessary to create and present art. Artists find themselves having to balance their own vision, with the practicalities of physical production, collaboration, and so many other factors. Artists on Creative Administration: A Workbook from the National Center for Choreography, is a collection curated by Tonya Lockyer, containing firsthand accounts of creative administration in action. Lockyer is focused on telling stories that can help others progress, making a point to state, “This book is for anyone looking for paths forward; for anyone who believes we are in an exceptional moment of change—change is happening and needs to happen.” Please join us at Town Hall for an expansive conversation on the arts, leadership, and the craft of creative administration. Tonya Lockyer is an award-winning movement artist, choreographer, writer, and cultural curator. Lockyer was the executive and artistic director of Velocity Dance Center in Seattle from 2011 to 2018. Currently, she is also an adjunct professor in Arts Leadership at Seattle University. Her new anthology, Artists on Creative Administration, features the voices of thirty artists and arts workers, sharing their experiences as they navigate issues of equity, design, leadership, collaboration, family, ethics, and care. Jackson Cooper is the Executive Director of the American Genre Film Archive, the world's largest nonprofit archive and distributor dedicated to preserving, collecting, and presenting the greatest genre films of all time. Allan Langer's playing legacy still looms large over the Broncos. The clubs Inaugural halfback in 1988 would become their first premiership captain in ‘92, a title they defended in ‘93. He'd go on to lead a team rated among the greatest club outfits ever assembled to the Super League premiership of ‘97, and in ‘98 they reigned supreme again in a reunited 20 team competition. It's a career so profound that Langer is immortalised in bronze with his own statue at Lang Park alongside fellow QLD champions, Lewis, Lockyer, Beetson and Meninga. Hosted by Nine's NRL Commentator Mathew Thompson. Produced by 9Podcasts & Wide World of Sports. Presented in partnership with Youi.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This presentation was recorded on April 7th, 2024 at the first DemystifySci conference in Austin TX. Dr. Pierre-Marie Robitaille presents an overview of his multi-decadal quest to understand the material basis of the stars. He also reveals a new theory to explain Mercury's anomalous precession - one that doesn't revert to warped spacetime or mathematical acrobatics. In the process, a clever solution to the mysterious solar cycles of magnetism is revealed, along with a possible mechanism for planetary formation, and sun spot production. Dr. Robitaille has faced an onslaught of attacks from the astrophysical community since he first turned his attention to the sun, perhaps because the material basis of the sun underpins all astrophysical revelations of modern times from black holes to the big bang. Like it or not, the material understanding of the sun appears to be in dire need of revision, and Dr. Robitaille has some unimpeachable concerns about the status quo. “You can't rehabilitate someone that hasn't been habilitated in the first place.”In this conversation with Jon and Aidan, Kathleen shares her journey to becoming an occupational therapist, the role nature played in raising her own children, and how nature connection principles facilitate healthy sensory development. We also discuss the science behind story catching and the role it plays in helping children develop, and the role we play, alongside nature, in regulating each other's nervous system. Kathleen brings a wonderful perspective as a mother, occupational therapist, researcher, and mentor, and her stories are funny, insightful, and full of hope for the future. “There's no such thing as self regulation; we regulate in relationship to everything else.”About Kathleen LockyerI am the daughter of a fisherman from Newfoundland, Canada, and a debutant from New York City. Raised a little wild, and a little cultured, I've learned enough to know that preserving a healthy amount of wild is good for a growing heart, body, and mind. Guiding others to reclaim wholeness and love the messiness of raising children while healing themselves is my joy.Learn more about Kathleen at https://www.kathleenlockyer.com/Visit https://www.livingconnection1st.net/ for more information about our work in nature connection and people connection.

Hello and welcome to The Everything is Black and White Podcast. It's time for the View from The Opposition - coming a day early this week, with Gibbo enjoying a little Christmas break! Fear not the match preview will be out tomorrow, but for now we're joined by Luton Town FC fan and YouTube Lewis Williams to get the insight into Saturday's opponents. The game, a good old traditional 3pm kick-off will see Newcastle face Luton for only the 2nd time this century, the only time was in the FA Cup back in 2018. Newcastle come into this game in mixed form - pretty much unbreakable at home but a poor shadow of themselves on the road, while Luton, has picked up five of their nine points at Kenilworth Road, although that doesn't tell the full story, more on that later. Fire, flood, record-setting heat, tropical storm, earthquake -- we've seen it all in the past several weeks! Natural disasters can present a whole series of unique challenges for people affected by MS. Last year, I had an opportunity to talk about disaster preparedness for people affected by MS with Mary Casey-Lockyer, the Senior Medical Advisor to Disaster Operations at the American Red Cross. As extreme weather events become a more frequent and regular occurrence in our everyday weather patterns, I thought it made sense to revisit my conversation with Mary. Mary has just recently retired from her position at the Red Cross, but I think you'll find her tips and strategies as worthwhile and valuable today as they were a year ago. We'll also tell you about Tyruko, the first biosimilar to receive FDA approval for treating MS (and we'll make sure you know exactly what biosimilars are and where they fit in the spectrum of pharmaceutical treatments). We'll share the results of an important clinical trial that may cause experts to re-think when MS begins and when it should be treated. We have a lot to talk about! Are you ready for RealTalk MS??! “Shannon, you killed both of them... you're just one cold-hearted bastard. You're the one that done that, not me."Kimberley Lockyer and Dale Worthman were a young couple that lived together in their small Newfoundland town of Portugal St. Cove Philips. When they disappeared from their basement apartment on August 27th, 1993, it almost seemed like they had simply stepped out for a minute and fully intended on returning.Despite widespread searches throughout the region, no trace of the missing couple was found for over a decade.
