#205: Organic California field and row crop farmer Scott Park details the success he's found with his low-input, targeted tillage operation for a room full of real organic certified farmers. Primarily a tomato grower for canneries, Scott's does not shy away from sharing his experiences with slippery price negotiations and the headaches around the regenerative movement's lack of enforceable standards. Scott's full talk and excellent slides can be viewed on our YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdGiGqNTf2M Scott Park and his son Brian run Park Farming Organics in Meridien, CA and are known for investing excess time, money, and effort into thoughtful experiments aimed at growing food in concert with nature. Scott was the main speaker at our Farmer Friday event this past September, which was held one day before at our conference at Churchtown Dairy in Hudson, New York - Real Organic: A World Movement.https://parkfarmingorganics.com/To watch a video version of this podcast with access to the full transcript and links relevant to our conversation, please visit:https://realorganicproject.org/scott-park-normal-ca-farm-farmed-abnormallyThe Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States this year. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. You probably saw the video back in 2015. Then-56-year-old Scott Park, standing at half court, fires a shot to potentially win a million dollars at the ACC Tournament…only for it to barely reach the free throw line. It immediately went viral after a reporter posted the footage on Vine (remember Vine?). In true internet fashion, the negative comments piled on. But as our friend Ryan McGee found out and shares with us today, there was so much more to this story than the social media response…it's about the limits of science, and storytelling…and ourselves. #080: Real Organic Project-certified farmer Scott Park grows a variety of vegetables and grains in Meridian, California, amid a population of operations that rely on chemical biocides. Considering his decades of overall success (certainly not without effort and occasional setbacks) why don't more farmers embrace organic practices, especially considering the money saved on chemical inputs? Dave and Scott dig into this question. Scott Park of Park Farming Organics is a longtime organic farmer in Northern California, who has spent decades experimenting with no-till and low-till practices that aim to minimize soil disturbance on crop farms. Recently, Scott and his wife Ulla transitioned the farm's ownership to the next generation, Brian and Jamie Park. Recording of my B2B set with Scott Park from Ky-One at Society.
Recorded live at the Ky-One dance event in Kirkcaldy on Saturday 13 August 2022.
George Elek is joined by Mark O'Haire, Jack Wright and David Preece to preview the 2022/23 Premier League new season. Mark and Jack provide their betting insight to pick out some value in the outright markets, whilst David Preece gives his view on the various runners and riders and gives us a view from a player's and coaches point of view.Champions Manchester City once again head the betting at a best price of 8/11 whilst Liverpool are hotly fancied to run them close once more with Jurgen Klopp's side at 11/4. The top two pulled miles clear of the rest last season and a rejuvenated Spurs look the most likely to follow with them at 14/1 third favourites, and odds on to finish inside the top four.Manchester United enter a new era with Erik ten Hag in the dugout, they're at 15/8 just to finish in the top four, as big as they've been for a number of years. Arsenal meanwhile ended the season in disappointing fashion as they missed out on a top four spot but have freshened up their squad with several new arrivals. The headline signing looks like Gabriel Jesus, he's halved in price for the Golden Boot since joining the Gunners and that market is one the guys touch on.As well as the race for the title, top four and Golden Boot, the panel look at the battle to stay in the Premier League. Newly promoted Bournemouth are odds on for a swift return to the Championship with Scott Park frustrated at the lack of singings, and it's a similar story at his former employers Fulham. The third club to join them have taken different approach. Nottingham Forest have brought in no less than 12 new signings including Jesse Lingard, they're out to 5/4 for the drop.Frank Lampard will be hoping for a better season for Everton than the one they endured last year. They're 7/2 to be relegated whilst the former Chelsea boss is the 4/1 favourite to be the first manager to leave his role. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sarah Iannarone grew up in a union family in upstate New York. Rather than going to college out of high school, Sarah pursued a trade and worked as a chef in great food cities around the U.S.. Not long after moving from New Orleans to Portland in 1998, Sarah opened a small restaurant to connect the people in her working-class neighborhood with high quality food from local farmers at a fair price. It was even featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Sadly, it is now shuttered due to the COVID crisis. After working without pay as a stay-at-home mom for several years, Sarah decided to enroll at Portland State University where she focused on planning sustainable cities. That's how she ended up spending the last decade helping urban leaders from around the world improve their places via the First Stop Portland program, best practices trips, and other educational endeavors, including lecturing to students here at home and to audiences around the world including in South Korea, China, Brazil and Canada. She resides in Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood, where 82nd Avenue meets Foster road, and can be spotted scooting around town on her e-bike, picking up groceries on her Xtracycle, running to catch the #10 & 14 buses, or enjoying the Douglas Firs in Mt. Scott Park park with her dog, Bacon.
