Left with no other options, Catherine reluctantly agrees to enlist the help of Luca's well-connected Italian family. Soon, she finds herself following Luca into a smoky bar to meet the Mafia, breaking into the records room of a local hospital, doing a little light stalking, and having a surprising amount of fun–all while growing closer to Luca. She and Zibby discuss the themes of loneliness, female friendships, and growing up. Then, Sophie provides a glimpse into her writing process and shares what it was like for her first book to be adapted for the big screen.Purchase on Bookshop: https://bit.ly/3HlrhrGShare, rate, & review the podcast, and follow Zibby on Instagram @zibbyowens! Ever wished you could fast-forward to the best parts of your life? That's what Lucy Young did in Sophie's Cousens's latest novel, "The Good Part." In "The Good Part," Lucy stumbles upon a wishing machine and wishes to skip to the "good part" of her life: where she has a career she's proud of, she isn't broke, and she has met her soulmate. The following day, she realizes the machine was real, and she has skipped to sixteen years in the future and is now in the good part of her life. So, in this episode, Sophie and I talked more about her book, and we had so much fun playing our own game where we stepped into our very own Time Machine and talked about the things we would do and places we would go to if we could time travel.BOOK:The Good Part by Sophie Cousens on Amazon or Bookshop. This week's podcast review comes from this blog review of Just Haven't Met You Yet.
If you believe in fate or perhaps serendipity, the book "Just Haven't Met you Yet" will be one you'll want to add to TBR list.
Summary: Pack your carry-on and get the heck outta town - this week, Holly and Devin break down books centered around a weekend getaway. They agree that putting protagonists in a brand new environment acts as a fantastic plot and character development catalyst - but of course the outcome of lighting that fuse could be murder or makin' out, depending on genre. Get ready for some armchair travel on today's episode. Topics Discussed: The Dagger (3:39): Holly discussed Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney, a psychological thriller centered around Adam and Amelia Wright as they head on a weekend to Scotland in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage. Holly's key takeaways were: After winning a trip to stay in an old, remote chapel in Scotland, Adam and Amelia jump on the opportunity to try and reignite their marriage at the advice of their marriage counselor. It quickly becomes evident, though, that they have their own plans and motives up their sleeves. Trust is a central theme of the book; the protagonists are constantly questioning each other's motives and actions - there's no surprise at all why they ended up in counseling. There's also a healthy dose of revenge as Adam and Amelia seek revenge for past wrongs. The perspective alternates in chapters between Adam's and Amelia's voice and both are unreliable narrators. This allows Feeney to explore not only the nature of truth and reality, but also the complexities of marriage and maintaining relationships. The Heart (18:41): Devin discussed Just Haven't Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens, a delightful romp through the Channel Isles (specifically Jersey) following Laura La Quesne, a journalist for the magazine ‘Love Life' who decides to return to her roots near England for a piece on her parent's tragic but profound love story and finds much more along the way. Devin's key takeaways were: Laura is a fun protagonist to root for, even if some of her hijinks throughout the book are cringeworthy. After accidentally taking the bag of a stranger, she roots through the contents and decides that the love of her life is the owner of said bag. Things escalate quickly from there. There is a clear love triangle in this novel between Ted, the grumpy taxi driver who shows Laura the island and helps her hunt down her mystery man and the man himself, Jasper, who oddly enough is *not* the villain of this story. Ultimately this book is about selfhood, searching for identity, the power of story, and the choices we make that define who we are and what love means to us. Laura seeks to understand her family history and find love, but uncovers more about herself than anything else on this whirlwind long-weekend adventure. Hot On the Shelf (37:47): Holly: Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout Devin: Ana María and the Fox by Liana de la Rosa What's Making Our Hearts Race (41:25): Holly: Succession Season 4 on HBO Max Devin: The Meg with Jason Statham Instagram: @heartsanddaggerspod Website: www.heartsanddaggerspod.com If you like what you hear, please tell your friends and rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and Spotify so that we can find our perfect audience.

On this episode of Complicated Conversations, we are joined by New York Times bestselling author Sophie Cousens. She is the author of This Time Next Year and Just Haven't Met You Yet. We talk with her about Before I Do, her new novel that asks the question: what would you do if “the one that got away” turned up the night before your wedding?! We chat with Sophie about “mommy issues” and the way her heroine, Audrey, is affected by the choices her mother has made; why she thinks the one that got away or the “what if” love interest is so popular in fiction; how she came to understand Audrey, her complicated protagonist with a “heavy” soul; what is love and how her novel explores all the permutations of love, lust, and connection; why love is dominated by a scarcity mentality and whether you can have more than one true love; who is worthy of love; and, of course, how the stars and astrology factor into all this!
In today's episode, Maggie joins rom com author Sophie Cousens to chat all about her new book 'Before I Do.' Sophie's books are all about fate and missed connections (her first even being the GMA Book Club pick!) and not to be missed. Join us as we talk about love triangles, what it means to choose a relationship, and Graham Norton. Sophie also shares the cocktail that MUST be paired alongside 'Before I Do' as well as a few songs that remind her of the book. Interested in hearing more from Sophie? The brand-new novel from the New York Times best-selling author of Just Haven't Met You Yet and This Time Next Year. What would you do if the one who got away turned up the night before your wedding? Audrey is marrying Josh; steady, dependable Josh, the love of her life. They share a flat and a bank account, and it's the only relationship that Audrey's ever had that feels like something she can put her trust in. But romance should be full of fireworks, and as the big day approaches, Audrey's found herself wondering if Josh really is 'the one'. So, when Josh's sister, Miranda, arrives at their rehearsal dinner with Fred—Audrey's 'What If? guy', the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with but never saw again—Audrey can't help but see it as a sign. Surely Fred's appearance the night before Audrey is due to get married can't be a coincidence. And when everything that could go wrong with the wedding starts to go wrong, Audrey has to wonder: could fate be trying to stop her from making a huge mistake?

Register here!A clever, tender, and romantic "Nora Ephron romp for the modern ages" (Christina Lauren) for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Abby Jimenez, and Sophie Cousens, this laugh-out-loud debut is a perceptive reminder that fate can have a sense of humor and that love can happen...in a New York minute.Franny Doyle is having the worst day. She's been laid off from her (admittedly mediocre) job, the subway doors ripped her favorite silk dress to ruins, and now she's flashed her unmentionables to half of lower Manhattan. On the plus side, a dashing stranger came to her rescue with his (Gucci!) suit jacket. On the not-so-plus side, he can't get away from her fast enough.Worse yet? Someone posted their (entirely not) meet-cute online. Suddenly Franny and her knight-in-couture, Hayes Montgomery III, are the newest social media sensation, and all of New York is shipping #SubwayQTs.Only Franny and Hayes couldn't be a more disastrous match. She's fanciful, talkative, and creative. He's serious, shy, and all about numbers. Luckily, in a city of eight million people, they never have to meet again. Yet somehow, Hayes and Franny keep running into each other - and much to their surprise, they enjoy each other's company. A lot. But when Franny's whole world is turned upside down (again!), can she find the courage to trust in herself and finally have the life - and love - she's always wanted? Grab a cup of cocoa and get cozy by the Christmas tree for this visit with Karen Schaler, author of new holiday romance, “A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale.” Entertainment Weekly calls her a “holiday publishing darling” who is equally successful as a novelist and screenwriter, with holiday films like Christmas Camp and A Christmas Prince among her credits. Before she was known as “Christmas Karen” – she had a successful career as a television news reporter. On the podcast, she talks with Olivia about making the transition from covering tragedies to creating festive magic full time. In a Moment With Margaret, Margaret talks about the idea of missed romantic connections in real life and fiction, and the mood of the holiday season when you're not someone who feels quite so merry and bright, and why “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is her favorite Christmas song. Holiday themed books recommended: “Time Next Year” by Sophie Cousens and David Sedaris' “Holidays On Ice.”

Oh my goodness. We LOVE this episode with Sophie Cousens! She and her work are SO much fun—gorgeous settings, fun meet cures, quirky characters—and the escapism you need NOW. We talk about how she moved from YA sci-fi to (adult!) romantic comedies, losing confidence in your work at the 30,000 word mark—and how it's often harder to write the books that are easy to read. Plus, we discuss planting Easter eggs while pantsing, adding lots of nuance to rom coms—-and how limited time is, actually, your best friend as a writer. Before becoming a full time writer, she worked as a TV producer in London for more than twelve years, working on shows such as The Graham Norton Show, Russell Howard's Good News and Big Brother. She now lives on the island of Jersey in the UK, and balances her writing career with taking care of two small children. Sophie yearns for a time when she can add a miniature dachshund to her brood, and wishes for the ability to read books faster than she keeps buying them.
Charlie chats with Sophie Cousens, author of the romantic comedy Just Haven't Met You Yet, about living on the island of Jersey in the English Channel, the connection between place and story, the meaning of objects in our lives, the preservation of stories, humor in the inner lives of characters, positivity in the face of difficulties, and more.
