#553 Penis Seam - Rich has come up with a scheme where all his listeners can live in central London and make money - or one of us gets £20 million. His guest is Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner Amy Gledhill. It starts out pretty gross and doesn't get much better, as Rich removes some clothes and part of his body (be glad it's audio only). They chat about how winning the award wasn't the immediate celebration/elevation that you might expect, all the amazing comedians who have never been nominated (mainly Rich, but how he came close), working with Dave Spikey on the fantastic Alma's Not Normal and getting very drunk with Sophie Willan, the terrific podcast Single Ladies In Your Area and why women need a show about dating going wrong, but maybe men need their own version too and how Richard became a master of dating (largely because of the low bar set by other men).To see Rich on tour head here http://richardherring.com/ballback/tourCome and see RHLSTP live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. Nick and Angela welcome their first guest of series 6 to Dish HQ. Comedian Katherine Ryan hails from Ontario, Canada. She studied town planning at university in Toronto before making the move to the UK in 2008. Katherine is one of the hardest working comics on the circuit. She makes regular TV appearances on panel shows like 8 Out of 10 Cats, has recorded many live comedy specials and even has her own drama series, The Duchess, on Netflix. Katherine has a podcast called Telling Everybody Everything and she and her family have just filmed series 2 of At Home with Katherine Ryan. She is currently touring her new stand-up show, Battleaxe, around the UK and Europe. Katherine enjoys a drink that is cold and clear, so Nick goes for an elderflower and mint martini while Angela is busy preparing a mouth-watering baked trout with chilli & ginger. The experts at Waitrose pair this with a Yalumba organic viognier from Southern Australia. There are few people more straight-talking than Katherine Ryan, who entertains Nick and Angela with funny food and family anecdotes, and recalls how a job at Hooters helped her find her calling. Nick and Angela recorded the very first Dish Live at the London Podcast Festival with comedian and writer Sophie Willan on 12 September. The show is available to watch online until 29 September and you can purchase a viewing pass here. You can watch full episodes of Dish now on Youtube All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. The podcast is one year old and we celebrate in style! Long time fans will be overwhelmed as you hear how the podcast was founded, Jonny delivers a second verse to his rap and Sean organises a surprise that goes wrong almost immediately. We have multi-award winner Sophie Willan on the phone explaining how she couldn't in good conscious give us a 5-star review, plus we read out some of your emails and talk for too long about Danny Ings. Sophie Willan is fabulous; an actor, comedian and writer from Bolton, whose sitcom ‘Alma's Not Normal' earned her two BAFTAs. Her writing manages to be both fearless in tackling serious themes, and incredibly funny. You only have to watch Sophie's reaction to winning her first BAFTA and acceptance speech for the second to realise how hilarious Sophie is and just how much her success means. Growing up Sophie was looked after by her Grandma and spent time in the care system due to her mother being a heroin addict. When she was older, to help fund her career, Sophie worked as an escort. She has utilised her past experiences in her shows ‘On Record' and ‘Branded', selling out at the Edinburgh Fringe with national tours and a subsequent Radio 4 series of ‘On Record'. Sophie founded a writing and outreach organisation called Stories Of Care for exceptional new writers from diverse backgrounds and set up a paid training programme for young people from low income and Care Experienced backgrounds on the production of her sitcom Alma's Not Normal. Alma's Not Normal is a semi autobiographical comedy which focuses on Alma living in Bolton trying to make the most of what she has and dreaming of being an actress, detailing the ups and downs of her relationships including with her mum, grandma and best friend, played by Strictly star Jayde Adams. The show looks at class, sexuality, prejudice, mental health, abuse, and societal systems like social care, all whilst making you laugh out loud. This is a conversation about Sophie's personal changes but also change in systems, change in prejudices and changing the concept of normal. Alma's Not Normal is back on iPlayer for the month of October. Should you be affected by any of the issues raised in this episode, in the UK, The Samaritans can be reached on 116 123. The Working-Class Writers Festival takes place in real life in and around Bristol, but there are also loads of events that can be attended online. Terri White's there, Cash Carraway's there, Val McDermid's there, Sadie Hasler's there: it's going to be brilliant. And what's more, everything is free. We love a bit of reality telly, and we've got properly sucked in to Channel 4's new show, The Circle. It's all about how people use and present themselves on social media, and what lengths they'll go to to become the most popular. We chat what we think about it, how it makes us think about our own use of social media (and how lucky we were to grow up on MSN Messenger!) and how the show works. We also talk about how fab Sophie Willan, the narrator of the show, is. Join us in the excitement! And let us know what you think about The Circle! Find full notes at POWpodcast HQ

RHLSTP #178: Sophie Willan - How To Twerk. Richard is marvelling about a new interpretative dance based on 'All You Need Is Love' but soon he will be dancing himself with brilliant new comedian and writer, Sophie Willan. They talk about how a trip to Ibiza with your techno-loving gran can ignite a love of theatre; what Rylan is like in real life; the therapeutic nature of stand-up (and whether it's healthy to work things through on stage); the intersection between madness and comedy; growing up in and out of care; thinking Richard Ashcroft is your dad; and why comedy and theatre are so middle class. Plus is it always best to be in a monogamous relationship; and how much is comedy like sex work? If you've seen Richard dancing, then not very much.SUPPORT THE SHOW!Check out our website and become a badger and see extra content http://rhlstp.co.ukSee details of the RHLSTP tour dates http://richardherring.com/gigsBuy DVDs and Books at http://gofasterstripe.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sir Tim Smit, co-founder of the Eden Project; actor and writer John Gordon Sinclair; performer Sophie Willan and confectioner Andy Baxendale join Aasmah Mir and the Reverend Richard Coles. Sir Tim Smit co-founded the Eden Project in Cornwall in 2001. The Dutch born businessman is also known for restoring the Lost Gardens of Heligan with John Nelson. It's 25 years since these gardens were restored to their former glory. This week the Eden Project launched a new company Eden Project International Ltd (EPIL) to establish Eden projects with international partners around the world. Eden Project International is currently working on three projects in China and others in Australia and New Zealand. John Gordon Sinclair is an author and actor, best known for playing Gregory in Bill Forsyth's film Gregory's Girl. In 2012 he turned his attention to writing crime novels and his current book, Walk In Silence, is the story of lawyer Keira Lynch who is caught up in the murky Albanian underworld. As an actor Gordon was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Newcomer for Gregory's Girl and his first outing in London's West End in She Loves Me won him a Best Actor Olivier award. Walk in Silence is published by Faber and Faber. Gordon features in the television drama Diana and I which will be broadcast on BBC Two later this year. Comedian Sophie Willan's new show Branded explores why she feels like a well-travelled alien - fitting in with no particular class or culture but still constantly being put into boxes by others. Branded by her working class background, her gender, her ambition, and her unapologetic 'Northerness', she explains the misunderstandings she's experienced in different environments. Her previous show On Record tackled the story of her childhood in care and the impact of getting access to her case files at 23. Branded is at the Pleasance Courtyard: Bunker 2, Edinburgh. Andy Baxendale is a sweet consultant who features in the BBC Two series the Sweetmakers which explores the life of confectioners in late 19th and early 20th century England. This was a time when cheap sugar meant sweets for every class in society and the modern brands that we still know and love today were created. Using period equipment, original recipes and authentic ingredients, Andy and his fellow confectioners recreate sweets of the past and discover the adulterants and toxic colours used in sweets, the Quaker families who dominated confectionery, and the poignant letters sent back from the First World War trenches. The Sweetmakers is broadcast on BBC Two. Producer: Paula McGinley.
