Join us as we sit down with Lauren Sivak, Executive Director of the Opportunity Project, to unravel the challenges and triumphs of providing quality afterschool programs for Tulsa's youth. Listen in as we discuss the ripple effects of recent federal funding cuts on enrichment initiatives and share insights into the impactful work of after-school programs. Our chat not only covers the essential role these programs play in youth development but also touches on the city's unexpectedly smooth traffic and spacious parking—a lighthearted contrast to the serious topic at hand.Venture into the world of after-school enrichment as we reflect on the surprising cultural shift from voluntary to paid programming for educators in Tulsa. With Lauren's guidance, we explore the emotional and financial investment in after-school programs, highlighting the generous support for teachers and the essential need for diverse and inclusive opportunities for students. From cooking clubs to robotics, every activity holds educational value. Amidst the backdrop of our own high school memories and club aspirations, we underscore the challenges non-profits face in sustaining these valuable programs, especially in today's financial climate.Cap off this enlightening conversation with a look at the big dreams for Tulsa's afterschool scene, including the need for data-driven decision-making and tracking to ensure the safety and success of these programs. We stand up for the importance of social and emotional learning in the face of skepticism, affirming that fostering a sense of safety and inclusion is fundamental for learning. As we navigate the contentious educational landscape, we reaffirm our belief in the power of a well-educated populace to sustain a functioning democracy. So tune in, get involved, and see how you can be a part of empowering the next generation. And don't forget to go to their fundraiser, Data on Draft on April 25th! Dana Walsh Sivak, a Falcon Rappaport & Berkman Partner and Co-Chair for the Elder Law practice group and a member of the firm's Litigation and Cannabis Law practice groups, joins Diana on the podcast today. Their discussion focuses on the treatment of the elderly and their autonomy in decision-making.  Dana is passionate about safeguarding the rights of seniors, particularly concerning their usage of medically prescribed cannabis and matters of sexuality within assisted living environments. Join us for this candid and intimate conversation.   IN THIS EPISODE:   [00:33] Diane introduces Dana, and explains what the elder law encompasses [05:23] Dana speaks to the different generational mindsets toward cannabis and her feelings about patients making choices for their lives when they are capable [08:35] Dana explains The Compassionate Care Act and what obstacles were faced in creating the Act [13:38] What are the rules at healthcare facilities and assisted living situations regarding cannabis [18:49] Dana talks about lobbying Congress to get cannabis laws changed [20:55] Sexuality among seniors in assisted living and healthcare facilities [27:17]  Promoting agency in adulthood regardless of age    KEY TAKEAWAYS:   It is patently unfair to have a child decide for their parent when the parent is perfectly capable of deciding for themselves. Dana believes that doctors should be able to prescribe cannabis to patients in healthcare facilities and assisted living situations. Unfortunately, patients cannot receive the medication they need because of the restrictions of Medicaid.   RESOURCES:   Beyond the Balance Sheet Website   Falcon Rappaport & Berkman - Website   BIOGRAPHY:   Dana Walsh Sivak is a Partner at Falcon Rappaport & Berkman LLP, and serves as Co-Chair of the firm's Elder Law practice group, as well as a member of its Litigation and Cannabis Law practice groups. Dana has devoted much of her career to addressing legal issues involving the elderly, including Article 81 guardianships, complex Medicaid eligibility issues, nursing home litigation, and advocating for increased access to quality-of-life initiatives for the elderly in long-term care settings. Dana works closely with her clients and their families to craft individualized long-term care plans, which include high-level Medicaid planning techniques that aim to preserve her client's assets and income while ensuring their continuous access to excellent care. Dana has a great deal of experience representing both individual clients and corporate healthcare facility clients on complex legal issues, allowing her to develop a unique perspective on issues facing seniors and obtain a great deal of experience assisting older New Yorkers in securing a payment source for the cost of their long-term care, often through the Medicaid program or private long-term care insurance. For many years, Dana has worked to expand access to medical cannabis to seniors, particularly those residing in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. In December 2019, Dana helped to spearhead and present the first conference on Long Island that focused on these issues, “Cannabis & Aging: The Business, Politics, Law & Science of Cannabis,” partnering with other highly regarded professionals in the cannabis industry. Dana frequently lectures to healthcare facilities and at regional conferences about the medical benefits of cannabis in the elderly population, advocating for increased access to medical cannabis for all seniors, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Lisa Sivak. Lisa is the founder and owner of the Upper Hand Spa Salon. As a little girl Lisa was always mesmerized by hairstylists and makeup artists. She loved to watch them create. At 17 she enrolled in Cosmetology school through a grant program. Well, the lost little girl she was at the time she didn't last long and dropped out after only a month. Beauty school dropout. Then about a year later and a tiny bit of maturing she decided sh wanted to be a make-up artist but couldn’t afford to relocate to LA. So she found that the Esthetician program also taught make-up. So again she enrolled in a Cosmetology school. This time she finished and got her license for facials, waxing and make-up. She began working as an esthetician. She then found she was drawn to the nail area in the salon. Once again she headed back to Cosmetology school, she graduated from the manicuring program at the top of my class and Manicurist of the month. During this time she married the man that would love and support her through the many crazy phases of being a salon professional and entrepreneur for the last 30 plus years. She emphasis “crazy”. You must be a bit crazy to be self employed! She did not have the most secure childhood. Her parents got pregnant on accident and then married because you know that was the right thing to do. Well surprise surprise that didn’t end well. She experienced the hate and fighting between her parents. The bashing of one another. She lived mainly with her mom that was just a kid herself. She was bounced between her and my grandparents or left with her friends. She never felt like she belonged anywhere but learned resilience and adaptability. She also lost her voice from the shame and confusion of being repeatedly molested by multiple boys at one of the homes she was left at. Her mom’s friend was a foster parent to teen boys. Not an appropriate place for an innocent 7 or 8-year-old little girl. At 12 she was literally dropped off in my Dad’s driveway with all my stuff, unbeknownst to me in the middle of his 2nd marriage that was falling apart. She was left there by herself to live when he started dating and moved in with his girlfriend (now his wife of 30 something years). She searched for love and acceptance in the wrong places. She partied, had boyfriends and all the adult stuff she was not ready for. She got pregnant at 14 and had an abortion. I spent years beating myself and searching for everything she didn’t have. She made a lot of choices (She doesn’t call them mistakes)she is not proud of. Hurt a lot of people along the way. It took her until recently, maybe the last 2-3 years before she finally can say “I am proud of who I am”. From those bad choices and experiences she want to empower others especially women that have had adversity in their lives. She want to make a difference in someones life even if it is to take their cares away for an hour of care and pampering. Learn more and connect with Lisa Sivak a by visiting heron Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lisabreathes/ on Website: www.theupperhandspasalon.com on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheUpperHandSpaSalon/ on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theupperhandspasalon/ Be sure to follow uson Twitter: Twitter.com/to_growthon Facebook: facebook.com/Road2Growth Subscribe to our podcast across theweb: https://www.theenriquezgroup.com/blog Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2Cdmacc iTunes: https://apple.co/2F4zAcn Castbox: http://bit.ly/2F4NfQq Google Play: http://bit.ly/2TxUYQ2 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4JwTLX0I09-X1XN-Xv1h_Q?view_as=subscriber For any San Diego Real Estate Help please visit:Website: https:www.TheEnriquezGroup.comYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKnzMRkl-PurAb32mCLCMeA?view_as=subscriber

Bolivia tuvo elecciones.

In this kickoff to Rural Matters’ first in-depth, four-part series, Rural Communities: Conquering Challenges, Optimizing Opportunities, Michelle and three guests take a deep dive on what it’s like — and what it could be like in the future — to live in Rural America, exploring the recent findings of a survey conducted by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Harvard University School of Public Health. The three guests are Dr. Robert J. Blendon, Richard L. Menschel Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Policy Translation and Leadership Development at the Harvard School of Public Health who serves as co-director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/Harvard School of Public Health project on understanding Americans' Health Agenda; Ed Sivak, Chief Policy and Communications Officer for Hope Enterprise Corporation/ Hope Credit Union (HOPE); and Luke Shaefer, University of Michigan Professor of Social Work in the School of Social Work and Professor of Public Policy in the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy; and Director of Poverty Solutions. The majority of those living in rural America are optimistic about the future, but many others are concerned about their economic future and, in particular, the opioid crisis, according to Blendon. The survey results show that about half in rural America say they could not pay a “surprise” bill of $1,000. In addition, Blendon notes, rural residents say they need outside help to deal with many of their problems, including that their health insurance coverage doesn’t enable them to seek certain local providers. In addition, he notes, one in five rural residents has difficulty getting Internet coverage, which creates all sorts of barriers, including in terms of health care. Sivak notes that in 9 out of 10 persistent poverty countries, many of them in the rural areas, the unemployment rate exceeds the national average. Access to a financial institution, such as Hope, really matters, he concludes. Shaefer points out that rural communities are disproportionately represented among the 100 most vulnerable communities in the United States. The bottom line, according to the guests, is that life in rural America today is indeed challenging for many residents and that outside help is needed, but because of volunteer efforts, local “superheroes,” and innovative solutions that hopefully can be sustaining, there are realistic opportunities to address the problems. This episode — and the entire four-part series — is sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, RWJF.org, @rwjf. This episode also was sponsored by Thomas USAF, who is sponsoring the 20th Annual National Rural Lenders Roundtable in Washington, DC on December 4, www.nrlrt.com.

Agent 251 (Jason Will) and Lagniappe business columnist Ron Sivak (Real Deal w/ Ron Sivak Podcast) discuss the Alabama Center for Real Estate (ACRE) January 2018 Market Report focusing on the residential (and some commercial) market in Mobile (Alabama), Baldwin County, and the Gulf Coast condo market. This episode doesn't just focus on Downtown Mobile, Fairhope, or Daphne location and sales numbers but will explore a big picture approach to reporting on the state of the local market, how to analyze the data, and explaining the unique conditions of buyer and seller pockets in areas like Saraland, Creola, South Mobile County, Foley and Bay Minette. Baldwin County is one of the fastest growing real estate markets in the nation: what does that mean for realtors, home buyers and sellers in that market? How does the Mobile real estate market compare to Baldwin Counties? This episode is more than just the numbers, prices and percentages of the Market. Agent 251 dives deep into what all this real estate market information means for the realtor, buyer, and seller. Questions: Is Foley becoming the new Fairhope? How should buyers and sellers look at the sales number and data from ACRES? Why are more people now NOT overlooking Mobile real estate instead of just looking to relocating to Baldwin County? Why is now the time to decide to buy that Baldwin County Condo Investment sooner than later? Why is Baldwin County median home price significantly higher than Mobile County? What is the optimal amount of days for a home to be on the market for the realtor and the seller? How many days on market does it take to trigger a professional realtor to realize that there may be a price or condition problem? Mobile County gets a bad rap but I think it's got a lot of positives. It's the dark horse of the state. I am high on it and I think it's going to surprise us all. - Jason Will Why is Agent 251 (Jason Will) so excited about Mobile County real estate in 2018-19? Why is Lake Forest seeing a resurgence (esp. with retirees) in the market?   Quotable Quotes  Homes Sales in January and February are a little modest due to the unseasonably cold weather. I think we are gonna finish strong closing out Quarter 1. - Jason Will The home sale momentum is fierce heading into Quarter 2 right now. - Jason Will On the Eastern Shore, there is a shortage of resale homes, so new home construction purchases are really filling the gaps in that market. - Jason Will 2018 is going to be the year of new construction on the Eastern Shore. - Jason Will Baldwin County is really starting to look like a seller's market looking at the average days homes on market data. - Jason Will Foley is taking off due to an influx in retirees, a city's initiative to beatify and it's close proximity to the beach without the high insurance premiums. - Jason Will Sellers and buyers need to know that zip codes even different neighborhoods will be significantly different in prices, sales and data from one to the next. - Jason Will With all the broad stroke sales data from across Baldwin County, you need to contact a real estate professional to determine the true value of your home and property. - Jason Will I think people aren't as apt to just relocate to Baldwin County without looking at Mobile due to all the new commercial growth, lifestyle and entertainment choices, and energy throughout the city. - Jason Will If you want a Gulf front condo you had better hurry because the prices are starting to get insane. - Jason Will If you want to get into real estate investing the beach condominium investment market is so strong right now and is set up to be a turnkey investment due to the rentals. - Jason Will Prices, interests rates, and demand is ticking up. So, if you want a Baldwin County condo game you need to get off the fence and make a decision before peak season. When a buyer is looking for a new home in Baldwin County they may have 10 options. In Mobile County, they may have 20. Lots of inventory in the Mobile Market. Mobile County gets a bad rap but I think it's got a lot of positives. It's the dark horse of the state. I am high on it and I think it's going to surprise us all. - Jason Will I think we are going to see Baldwin County and Mobile pop up on those "Best Places To Live" lists and they will stay there for a long time. - Jason Will   Resources: Alabama Center For Real Estate (ACRE)  Real Deal with Ron Sivak Podcast    Contact Jason Will Real Estate Prompt and professional service is our guarantee.
