Eine erfreulich positive Zwischenbilanz der Weltklimakonferenz zieht Christoph Bals, der politische Geschäftsführer der Entwicklungs- und Umweltorganisation Germanwatch. Im Gespräch mit SWR2 sagt Bals: „Es ist schon beeindruckend zu sehen, wie viel Dynamik durch die Zielerhöhungen verschiedener Staaten in die Konferenz hineingekommen ist.“ Hervorzuheben ist aus seiner Sicht, dass im Fall einer Umsetzung der Ankündigungen die globale Erwärmung auf weniger als zwei Grad Celsius begrenzt werden kann. Bals wörtlich: „Zumindest sind die Ziele jetzt so, dass sie auf 1,8 Grad hinzeigen würden." Als zweiten auffälligen Punkt bei dem Treffen nennt Bals den politischen Druck, unter den Kohle als Energieträger gekommen ist. Kritisch äußert sich der Umwelt- und Klimaexperte zum chinesischen Auftreten in Glasgow. Kritisch sei weniger, dass Staas- und Parteichef Xi nicht an der Konferenz teilgenommen habe, sondern dass das Land seine Ziele nur unwesentlich nachgebessert habe. Statt sich auf einen Emissionshöhepunkt bis 2025 festzulegen, sprächen die Chinesen nur von „spätestens 2030“. Bals' Urteil: „Das reicht nicht aus.“ Fortschritte seien in Glasgow dagegen bei der finanziellen Unterstützung von Klimaschutz-Bemühungen armer Länder erzielt worden. Die Zusage, diesen Staaten jährlich mit 100 Milliarden Dollar zu helfen, die von den USA und Australien aufgekündigt wurde, habe man nun „notdürftig“ wieder aufgegriffen – allerdings sei zu prüfen, wieviel von dem Geld durch Kredite gedeckt werden soll. Für die zweite Woche der Verhandlungen in Glasgow erwartet Bals noch „erhebliche Kämpfe“. So stehe zum Schluss noch ein politischer Beschluss aus, durch den die Ambitionen beim Klimaschutz, der Unterstützung bei Schäden und dem Verschieben von Geldströmen zur Finanzierung der Vorhaben festgeschrieben werden. „Das geht deutlich übers Kleingedruckte hinaus“, ordnet Bals die Bedeutung ein. Christoph Bals hat Theologie, VWL und Philosophie studiert und arbeitete als Journalist zu Umwelt- und Klimaschutzthemen. Er ist seit 2005 politischer Geschäftsführer von Germanwatch.

Chipmaker Intel defines Storage-as-a-Service or STaaS as a cloud storage rented from a Cloud Service Provider (CSP) and that provides basic ways to access that storage. Businesses and individuals can use the cloud for multimedia storage, data repositories, data backup and recovery, and disaster recovery. Within the enterprise, Storage-as-a-service (STaaS) spans deployment environments and can be delivered both on-premise or in the cloud. It offers the ability to deliver consumption-based “pay for what you use” or OpEx capacity model along with a range of additional value-added services. IDC found that the technical and business benefits of STaaS offerings are driving the adoption.
