Shan is in conversation with Stephanie Webster a Nutritional Therapist who specialises in fat loss, gut health and hormone optimisation. They talk about the complex relationships we have with food, created early on in life and the addictive nature of the fat, sugar and salt combination that is part of the many people’s diet through the processed food we are surrounded by. This is a thought-provoking episode that explores the links between our nutrition and the health problems many face as part of daily life in the modern world. Listen in and find out more about what you can do to make the changes to a diet that nourishes your body.    KEY TAKEAWAYS Nutrition I help people understand their bodies better and work on nutrition, working with individuals to create their own instruction manual to treat their bodies. It’s about having a sense of what’s right for you and understanding what your body needs at a particular time. Body composition matters, it’s about your belief system and values. To change you need to become a different person who is doing want’s right for your body. Is it good for me? should be the question you are always asking We can be very emotionally involved with food, it can mean love, connection, guilt, shame and processed foods stimulate dopamine in ways that a food such as spinach doesn’t Gut health Your gut is the main place in your body where you absorb your nutrition without gut health you cannot rebuild, repair and restore tissue properly. The gut is affected by what you eat and levels of stress No processed food – it doesn’t provide anything that is needed No processed thought -no negative self-talk as it affects levels of stress, the gut-brain axis is real No processed people – review the tribe around you and make sure they are supportive of you in the best possible way, they emotionally nourish you Hormone optimisation After the age of 40, hormone levels can drop providing challenges for keeping lean. We don’t live lives designed for the human condition. The human body is not designed for the world most of us live in every day. Taking small steps can be part of the journey that over time make a difference. Each day is an opportunity to get closer to a healthier version of you. We are all built differently and it’s about knowing your own body and understanding what works for you and your body. It’s about getting a balanced diet in the right way.   BEST MOMENTS ‘The right combination of sugar,  salt and fat stimulates you and is addictive’ ‘Processed food doesn’t nourish you or give you anything you need’ ‘If you do not optimise your gut health you will not be well overall’ ‘If you are emotionally nourished by your tribe you will not look to food for emotional soothing’   VALUABLE RESOURCES Enduring Health Podcast Urban Health Method website   ABOUT THE HOST Dr. Shan Hussain is an author, general practitioner, health coach, wellness advisor and ambassador to the World Health Innovation Summit. “It is hard to maintain a low body fat percentage on a Vegan diet without increasing activity significantly.” I got into nutrition after my mother died of cancer and after understanding the effects food had on my body. I have ulcerative colitis and certain foods caused inflammation and certain foods caused the opposite...or neutral. When I was learning nutrition, I was alongside athletes...I remember someone saying some people eat to live and some people live to eat...different attitudes and beliefs around food... the athletes were asking really intelligent questions...if In add this and this will it improve my speed....and I asked questions like...yeah but if you fancy a bit of chocolate? and i realised that they believed food was food and i believed food was pleasure... To finally understand what my fellow athletic students were talking about, we have Matt Lovell on the show. Matt is a specialist performance nutritionist with 18 years practical experience in elite sports, working directly with international teams (England Rugby and Football, Manchester City, Tottenham, Aston Villa) and many individual athletes (Jonny Wilkinson, James Haskell, Jermain Defoe, Jodie Taylor, Will Sharman, Vic Wild to name a few). “It’s not the cards you have been dealt…but how you play them that matters.” I’m Stephanie Webster, a nutritional therapist in Harley St London specialising in fat loss, gut health and hormone optimisation, for busy executives and entrepreneurs over 40. When I coach my clients, the most difficult thing they need to change is their mindset. I never tire of interviewing individuals who have achieved extraordinary things… despite the perceived odds. I get chills listening to those amazing individuals who received the news… you’ve got cancer…or ..you have 90 days to live…or your DNA says you will likely get Alzheimers…… soldiers who lose a leg… and so on…and frankly…anyone who has ever been told…no you cant… It takes a certain strength of mind to say …excuse me…thank you for your opinion, but that doesn’t define me. Now watch me make the most of my life. And today… I have the overwhelming privilege of having Olympian Gold Medallist Mark Colbourne MBE on the show. Mark has created a successful speaking career from presenting his key messages on “Change and Mindset” to many FTSE 250 companies. Mark has kindly educated other people successfully on how to overcome their fear of change. Global audiences can learn thought provoking elite mindset skills that empowers confidence, overcomes fear and consistently impacts results on their bottom line. On 30 August 2012 Mark won a silver medal and Great Britain's first medal of the 2012 Paralympics, and on 31 August 2012 you won a gold medal, after breaking the world record in both the qualification round and the final. On Mark’s website it says,”There is a huge stigma attached to people’s attitude towards “Change” in all areas of the working environment.” Book him to speak at your event, get in touch with him if you want to improve your health, and check out his action coach page. www.MarkColbourne.com www.HealthWithMark.com www.YourHealthCheck.org.uk www.TheChangeCoach.org.uk Brought to you by: www.urbanhealthmethod.com ABOUT THE HOST “Give your body what it needs and nothing it does not need.” Hello, I am Stephanie Webster, the CEO of www.UrbanHealthMethod.com Welcome to my podcast.
