Show Notes: The medical system is quick to label women as having "high risk pregnancies", but just because you've been labeled high risk doesn't mean you have to give up everything in your birth plan and go along with every intervention in the book. There is a lot of room for you to still be able to get most of the things you want in your birth, even if you end up "high risk" and at a hospital. It's hard to remember your worth as a woman of God in today's world which places so much emphasis on the paycheck you bring home rather than where God places it -- in the work we do that only we can do! Sometimes even if you want to have a baby and you are prepared for it, the news can still cause you to feel ups and downs in a way that you don't expect. Those feelings can lead to guilt and I believe this is an issue many deal with but very few talk about, so today we're going to talk about it so you know you are not alone! This situation actually has a name. It's called the "ambivalence of pregnancy". Ian highlighted the significance of patience and understanding when addressing fearful behaviors, especially in rescue dogs, and provided actionable advice on managing dogs' expectations during mealtime. The group also explored how to communicate a dog's discomfort with strangers and discussed the importance of maintaining personal space during meal preparation. If you are were in the path of Hurricane Helene and you are pregnant nearing delivery, you are probably terrified right now of what's going to happen if you go into labor.  Or if you are listening to this sometime in the future, you might find yourself in a place where you can't get the assistance you need for another reason.  This episode is a desperate attempt to get information to the moms who need it right now in areas of Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, and parts of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida who might be in a position that they are facing labor alone, unplanned.  There are women who are going to have an unassisted birth at home even though they planned a hospital birth with all the interventions....and that's a scary place to be.  I want to help those women. I know many of these places don't have electricity right now or internet/cell service, but some are being restored even though their roads are still washed out.  So my plea to anyone listening to this today is that you share this as far and wide as you can so that hopefully this will reach the mamas who need it right now.  I'm releasing it early rather than waiting until my usual release date of Tuesday morning to try to get a jump start on it.  There will also be a YouTube video with the same information in case that is easier to share.  This is my attempt to help anyone I can as I sit helpless in middle Tennessee, unable to go be with these women who are essentially cut off from society.  My prayer is this helps at least one mom. It is only natural that many moms are afraid of tearing "down there" during birth.  Perineal tears (aka perineal lacerations) seem pretty scary, but the best way to deal with fear is by getting the information so you can think about it more rationally.  Yes, tears do happen, but they are rare and the risk that you have one can be reduced by doing some things before and during birth, so today that's what we're talking about - how to reduce the risk of tearing during birth.
