Look no further, because in this musical masterclass, I'll guide you through linking scales to chords to ensure your solos are always on point. We start by examining the A minor chord and its best friend, the A minor pentatonic scale. I'll show you how to accentuate chord tones, like the root note A, crafting solos that dance perfectly with the chord progressions. As we encounter new chords, I unveil strategies for navigating these changes, such as when to emphasize different notes within the same scale or when it might be time to switch scales to match the harmonic shifts. All of this comes alive on the fretboard, where I demonstrate how to glide from A minor to G major pentatonic scales without missing a beat. But what about those tricky non-diatonic progressions that threaten to throw you off your game? Fear not! I break down the process of playing over chords that don't fit neatly within one key. You'll learn how to stay flexible and move along the fretboard, experimenting with different positions whether you're shifting from A minor to G minor or A minor to A flat minor. Starting with simple exercises, you'll build the confidence to expand your soloing vocabulary and approach each progression with a positive mindset. Send Steve a Text MessageHey there, Steve Stine here. In this episode of my guitar podcast, I wanted to share with you my approach to learning challenging guitar solos, using the example of "Warheads" by Extreme. As a guitarist, I know how frustrating it can be to tackle a difficult solo, especially when you're trying to stay true to the original while still making it your own.Throughout this episode, I break down my process for learning solos, from the initial listening stage to figuring out the notes and adapting the techniques to suit my own playing style. I emphasize the importance of finding a way to execute the solo that feels comfortable and natural to you, rather than trying to copy the original artist note-for-note.Using specific examples from the "Warheads" solo, I demonstrate how I modified certain licks and phrases to better fit my own playing, while still maintaining the essence of the original. I also discuss the realities of playing live and how that can influence the way you choose to play a solo.My goal with this episode is to encourage you to approach learning solos in a way that works for you, and to remind you that it's okay to make modifications and adaptations to suit your own style. Remember, you're not trying to be someone else – you're always going to be you, and that's what makes your playing unique. Links: Steve's Channel → https://www.youtube.com/user/stinemus... The CAGED System uses the five shapes of open-position chords—C, A, G, E and D—to make all other barre chords. The system allows for twelve major chords and their variations to be played in up to five different positions on the neck, using only these five shapes. The CAGED System is not limited to chords. It can also be used to play major scales in any position, using five different patterns.Learning each scale position is a good way to learn how to solo because it breaks down the neck into chunks rather than mapping out the entire scale. In today's episode of Steve Stine Guitar Podcasts, Steve discusses how to play solos by visualizing chords and melodies on the fretboard. And I'd say in our modern context, the hero is a leader, the corporate leader, the organizational leader, the political leader These are probably some people who have a natural ability when they tell a story, it could be just around a dinner table or it could be in front of an audience of a thousand. They just naturally lean into ideas or images or descriptions that they probably have come up with, which is why I think it's so essential for all of us, young people and all, to read and to listen and to not give up on the old tales, the old stories. They're repeatable and they're essential that they're repeatable because it perpetuates the reason for who we are and why we are. It's not just an old story That is probably one of the most powerful things you can do as a leader to say, "I'm investing my trust and belief in you at this moment in giving me a thoughtful response. Even if you don't have an answer, it's not like I'm going to punish you for that. But I really trust and believe that you have something to offer right now Once you ask, what do you think we should do? Or what would be your suggestions you empower. And that's the empowering process through this new leadership paradigm, which is the challenge for many traditional leaders who've been told to just hand down the marching orders and expect people to do it If you do not get an organization involved at all levels, frontline, middle management, and top leadership you cannot be a purpose-driven organization.
