Gem-Grandpa Bill's Developing Mnemonic example of -Short Story Incorporating Pegwords in Modal Order: The Greater Portland Crab CaperThe salty air of Portland, Maine, hung heavy as Detective Ray "The Hound" Howland, a grizzled dog with a nose for trouble, arrived at the scene. A giant ice sculpture, commissioned for the annual "Frozen Fest," had been mysteriously defaced, a single word etched into its crystalline surface: IONIAN.His partner, a nervous pig named Officer Percival, squealed, "It's the Modes Gang, Ray! They're hitting all the landmarks!"Howland sighed. The Modes Gang, a group of musically inclined vandals, was terrorizing the city. Their leader, known only as "The Lion," left cryptic clues at each site, each related to a different musical mode.Their second target was the Old Port district. A majestic lion statue, usually roaring defiance, was found serenely reclining, a tiny harp beside it. The word LYDIAN was painted on the base."They're getting bolder," Howland growled, surveying the scene. A trail of tiny footprints led away from the statue. "Looks like a mouse was here."The trail led them to the Portland Observatory, where they found an ape gazing sadly out at the harbor, a mournful ballad playing on a nearby antique radio. The word AEOLIAN was scrawled on the railing.Inside the observatory, a flickering lamp cast eerie shadows on a group of experimental musicians, playing dissonant music. The final word, LOCRIAN, was spray-painted on the wall.."This isn't just vandalism," Howland realized. "It's a musical message."Just then, a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, a flamenco dancer. "Dorian," she purred, before her arrest. As the police led their suspect away, Howland finally understood the message. Each mode was a clue, leading to the gang's hidden concert hall, where they were about to unleash a sonic attack on the city.#MemoryPalace,#MusicalModes,#MagneticMemoryMethod,#PortlandMaine,#CrabCaper,#MnemonicFiction,#MusicMnemonics,#GrandpaBillPodcast,**************LISTEN TO THE MASTER OF THIS PROGRAM-Dr. Anthony Metivier!CLICK AT THE LINK BELOWhttps://www.magneticmemorymethod.com/pegword-method/?vgo_ee=%2FvBwlwra4sp74NsL%2FEWnl1mHDeiMEB3MkOnT4HSxyY5o8J2e1CI%3D%3AbzCrI4oaQpAfVKDXjmyvYDF%2B2EK%2BGlMWCreative Solutions for Holistic Healthcare

Follow us on YouTube---------Today, we have a great episode with Joe Rodden from Lydian. And we are talking all things eFuels and their story. Lydian uses Co2, Water, and abundant Green Energy to create eFuels/SAF. And because of their flexible run method, they can do it profitably, consistently. In the recent past there has been a huge demand for SAF that has been hard for major airlines to procure. In part because the technology was not there, but mostly because there were no plants up and operating. SAF plants are assumed to look like chemical production facilities… ie: always on. This way the cost of the investment is paid back soon. Lydian made sure they used inexpensive materials to create their system. And they made it to start and stop whenever there is excess electricity being produced. It's a game changer. On top of this, Joe has a great story. A story that I'm sure you'll enjoy on today's episode. Thyatira was a politically and culturally marginalized city, finding its identity economically, with guilds dealing in metals and fabric (Acts 16:14). Guilds celebrated their patron deities in periodic festivities, so Christians may have been tempted toward the message of a “prophetess” who advocated participation in illicit sex and food sacrificed to idols, both staples of the social scene. Excavated coins point to the ongoing NT-era worship of Apollo, who had been assimilated with the Lydian sun-god Tyrimnos. Contextually, Jesus comes to His church here with metallic imagery: “eyes like a flame of fire and feet as burnished bronze.” He commends them for their love, faith, service and patient endurance, yet He challenges them for tolerating Jezebel, a false prophetess and leader of sexual immorality and idolatrous practices. Jesus – the One who “searches heart and mind” – threatens great tribulation upon her followers unless repentance is made. Those who conquer and keep Jesus' words and works until the end will receive authority over the nations, rule with an iron rod, and be given the morning star (Christ Himself - 22:16).

Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"As the primary sound from the original field recording, I chose to loop a section featuring what sounds like an older woman talking and laughing. To me, she seems like someone who has been to the market many times—perhaps even works there. Her laugh carries an element of mystery and wisdom. By looping this moment, I wanted to express how, although time passes and this recording captures just a moment from a single day, the market itself—hopefully—remains, as it has for many years. "I also included a section featuring a young child, perhaps in a pram, playing with a squeaky toy. Birds can be heard, along with a wonderfully cheerful greeting from a vibrant young woman—"¡Hola, cómo estás?"—spoken in a way that could only bring a smile to your face. "At 3:29 in the original 7-minute-plus field recording, there is a sound after the woman's laughter that resembles the notes of a flute. This moment inspired the flute riff I played. The flute is an important traditional instrument in Peruvian music, so I though it a good fit to complement the atmosphere of the market, the birds, and the market-goers. I explored scales commonly used in Peruvian flute music and settled on A Lydian mode. The other sounds momentarily 'disappear' for a few bars to make way for this message from the flute. Another section from the original field recording, featuring a young child, is looped repeatedly with the addition of plugin effects. "I also added a layer of electromagnetic smog—something ever-present in our world, yet inaudible to human ears. It contributes to the hustle and bustle of the market, introducing a chaotic energy that contrasts with the more familiar human and animal sounds. It represents both the uncertain future of traditional markets and our own uncertainty as a species on this planet. While its electronic, technotronic vibe contrasts with the organic sounds, it also enhances the atmosphere of the piece, helping to introduce and transition between different elements. "The drums are samples from an Eric Harland Yurt Rock pack, which I arranged on the MPC One. They serve as the backbone of the piece. I wanted a rhythm that felt a little freeform and jazzy—something that could stand on its own rather than a rigid, structured beat. The piece actually works well without drums, but I believe it is stronger with them. I then added other elements, including two synth pads, an 808 sub, and mixed everything in Reaper DAW. "I wanted to keep the piece quite short—like a bird flying over the market, catching a fleeting glimpse of its life without staying too long. It's not about fully experiencing the market but about catching a brief impression of its atmosphere, then transforming that into something new while still retaining its original essence." Monday, 4 November 2024   Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Matthew 4:24   “And the hearing of Him, it went into all Syria. And they brought Him all the sickly, having various diseases and constraining torments, and demon-possessings, and moon-strikings, and paralytics, and He cured them” (CG).   The previous verse noted the ministry of Jesus going throughout the Galilee and that He cured every disease and malady in the people. Because of this, the fame of His ministry became known beyond the Galilee. That is recorded in the next words, which say, “And the hearing of Him, it went into all Syria.”   The meaning of the words is debated because the scope of the region of Syria at that time was not fully known. Albert Barnes says –   “It was, perhaps, the general name for the country lying between the Euphrates on the east, and the Mediterranean on the west; and between Mount Taurus on the north, and Arabia on the south. Through all this region his celebrity was spread by his power of working miracles; and, as might be expected, the sick from every quarter were brought to him, in the hope that he would give relief.”   The point is that what He was doing extended beyond the region of the Galilee. So convinced were the people of His power for healing that it next says, “And they brought Him all the sickly.”   The word translated as “sickly” is an adverb, kakós. It is derived from the adjective kakos meaning bad or evil which is applied in a very wide sense. HELPS Word Studies describes this adverb as “sore-misery related to experiencing grievous harm (affliction).” Thus, it can be a physical or moral condition. Matthew next describes the types of afflictions beginning with “having various diseases.”   The word translated as “various” actually means motley, as in multi-colored. Hence, it speaks of a variety of nosos, or diseases, which is the same word that was just used in the previous verse. Next, Matthew notes, “and constraining torments.”   The word translated as constraining, sunechó, means to hold together and thus to constrain. That is used to describe the “torments” which are from the Greek basanos. HELPS Word Studies says the word was “originally (from oriental origin) a touchstone; a ‘Lydian stone' used for testing gold because pure gold rubbed on it left a peculiar mark. Then it was used for examination by torture. Sickness was often regarded as ‘torture.'”   The sense of the two words is then an affliction that is so grievous that it binds a person, making him unable to continue a normal life. Next, it says, “and demon-possessings.”   It is a single Greek word, daimonizomai, meaning exactly as translated. These people were possessed by demons and were unable to free themselves from their afflicters. Jesus, however, was able to cure them of this particular malady. Along with them it next says, “and moon-strikings.”   It is a word found only here and in Matthew 17:15, seléniazomai, coming from selḗnē, the moon. It speaks of a person “controlled by the moon” rather than by his normal faculties, hence, a lunatic. Many translations say this signifies epileptics, but that seems unlikely. Because it is associated with the moon, it is more properly defining a crazy person.   Next, Matthew finishes the list with, “and paralytics.” One can see where our English word is derived from when noting the Greek, paralutikos. It is derived from paraluó which signifies enfeebled or weakened, literally “to loose on the side.” It is an apt description for those who are paralyzed or who suffer from palsy. Of all of these afflictions brought to Jesus, the verse ends with, “and He cured them.”   People who were broken in body or mind were restored through His healing hand. Likewise, those whose afflictions were from an external source were cured as well. The power of Jesus to accomplish these things validated His power over the source of such things, meaning the power of sin which was first introduced into humanity by the serpent in the Garden of Eden.   What would have seemed as absolutely hopeless in many of these cases was easily handled by the Lord Jesus because He is the Lord over the creation, having come to restore man to God. The physical afflictions point us to a greater spiritual reality.   Life application: There is no reason to assume that those who were said to be demon-possessed were not actually possessed by demons but were rather just schizophrenic or something. Demons are spoken of as a reality in the Bible. However, there is no instruction given for the casting out of demons provided in Scripture.   As this is so, it can be inferred that it is not a point of doctrine that is to be pursued as a separate category as the Roman Catholic Church and some aberrant denominations proclaim. In other words, it is not a point of doctrine that bears a particular remedy that needs to be addressed. For example, a person who is possessed by a demon doesn't need a rite of exorcism.   Instead, demon possession is to be handled in the same manner as any other spiritual condition. Those who are so possessed are to be told the gospel. If the person accepts the salvation offered through the gospel, the demon must depart. A person will be under the authority of the master that is appointed over him. In coming to Jesus, his Master, Jesus, will now be the Lord over him.   Having said this, Christians can still be afflicted by demons. This is why Paul gives the instructions found in Ephesians 6. The devil and his demons are there. We must use the implements God has given us to stand against them.   As such, remember, believers cannot be possessed by demons, but they can be afflicted by them. Non-believers can certainly be possessed by demons. It seems quite likely that half the politicians in the world must be at this point. People need Jesus to free them from the spiritual afflictions they face. From there, they need to get into the word and know how to stand against these foes in their daily walk.   Heavenly Father, how great it is to know that through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we can be freed from every spiritual affliction. Someday, we will likewise be freed from our body of death and translated into a new existence, free from pains, afflictions, and sorrows. May that day be soon. Amen.

For hundreds of years, the treasure of King Croesus lay underground, lost but not forgotten. But one day in 1965, several men came across the ancient burial mound of a Lydian princess. The men didn't excavate all the treasure at once. They returned once again in 1968 but didn't find anything but wall paintings. Sit back and close your eyes for this auditory journey, and feel into the personality signature of each sonic touchstone! The Midas Touch and World Trade

Stuff That Interests Me

The story of Midas, and how everything he touched turned to gold, is perhaps the most famous golden myth of all. His touch led to one of the most successful, long-lasting and under-rated technologies in history: coinage.Midas was King of Phrygia (now part of Turkey) and Dionysus - more commonly known as Bacchus - the god of wine, parties and pleasure - was passing through with his entourage, revelling as they went. Waking up one morning after a heavy night, Dionysus discovered that his tutor, Silenus, was missing. Silenus was a satyr, half man half goat. He had been drinking and he'd wandered off and fallen asleep in a rose garden, a garden that belonged to King Midas. Midas enjoyed spending time there with his daughter, who he loved more than anyone else in the world.Midas found Silenus lying on the ground and took him in, no doubt nursing a hangover. Silenus stayed with Midas for over a week, delighting him with songs and stories, enjoying his wine, food and hospitality. On the eleventh day, Midas took Silenus back to Dionysus, who was so delighted to see his old mentor safe and well, he offered Midas whatever reward he wished for. Midas thought hard and then asked that everything he touched should turn to gold. Dionysus urged the king to reconsider, but Midas was sure and so Dionysus granted his wish.Initially, Midas was delighted. He turned a twig, then a stone to gold. When he got home, he touched every rose in his garden, and they all turned to gold. Delighted, he ordered his servants to make him a feast, but, when his food and drink turned to gold, it dawned on him that perhaps his gift was a bane. His daughter came to him, crying that their roses had lost their smell. Midas hugged her and she too turned to gold. What had been his beloved daughter was now a statue, albeit a golden one. Despairing, he prayed to Dionysus to deliver him from his curse. “Go and wash your hands in the River Pactolus,” Dionysus told him.Midas did so. Dionysus's cure worked. Midas' power flowed into the water and the sands of the river turned to gold. Whatever he put in the water, his daughter included, was turned back into what it had been before Midas touched it. So does that part of Midas' story end.The obvious moral to the tale is of the tendency of lust for wealth to overpower good sense, to make us lose sight of what we love. But there is another tale that Midas left there in the sands of the River Pactolus.  The Western World's First CoinsAt its height, the Lydian empire stretched across all western Asia Minor, and the Pactolus flowed right through the middle. The Lydians were, around 700BC, says the Greek historian Herodotus, “the first of all those we know to introduce the use of gold and silver coins and the first to deal in retail trade."The Chinese might have something to say about that. Their bronze spade money and knife money dates back to the 16th century BC and the late Shang Dynasty. The money gets its name from its shape, which resembles a spade or hoe, with a pointed end, a flat or round base, and a central hole for stringing them together. But it wasn't round, so technically I suppose it isn't coinage as we know it.Given that we still use coins today, coinage has proved a remarkably successful technology. Indeed the Chinese ‘yuan' and Japanese ‘yen' both mean ‘round shape' – referring, of course, to the shapes of coins. “History became legend, legend became myth,” wrote Peter Jackson in his screenplay for The Fellowship Of The Ring and here is a case in point. Midas did actually exist. Most Greek mythological figures did before they became legend. Something similar happens now. The sports stars of today will become the gods, heroes and legends of tomorrow, just as those of our childhood now enjoy such status. One of Midas' descendents was the Lydian King Alyattes I, the first western king to mint coins. He minted his coins from the alluvial electrum (a gold-silver alloy) found in the beds of the Pactolus, the gold left there by Midas. These coins, the western world's first coins, formed the base of the Lydian empire.Alyattes' innovative son, Croesus, had the electrum coins of his father melted down to separate the gold from the silver, and then re-minted. On one side of his new coins was the image of a lion and a bull, on the other were punch marks to show their value. (Faces did not appear on coins till later). Effectively, Croesus launched not only the first imperial currency in the history of the world, but the bi-metallic standard. His coins were not only accepted, but demanded throughout Asia Minor, Greece and beyond. This universal acceptance played a key role in developing Lydia's prosperity. With his coins circulating so widely and effectively, Croesus' reputation as an extremely rich man was secured for all time. Not only was he as rich as Croesus, he had, it seems, the Midas Touch. That touch lasted. His basic denomination was subdivided into smaller denominations of thirds, sixths and twelfths and these reforms evolved into the 24 carats and ounces we use today. Coin values reflected the actual value of the metal content. Within 100 years coinage had spread to Persia in the east, across Asia Minor and Greece and at least as far as Sicily in the west. Roman and Celtic coins would later follow the same principles.Coins provided both geographical and social mobility. People could move around and carry value with them. Trade spread with a newfound ease, and the development of civilization could and did accelerate. My show on gold at the Edinburgh Fringe this August will take place at Panmure House, in the room in which  Adam Smith wrote Wealth of Nations. But for them to do this there must have been more at play. We look to the Greeks experience in Ionia under Lydian and then Persian rule to try and understand what factors would see the populations dissatisfied and in a position where rebelling was a viable option. However it would also seem the Greeks themselves would also play their own part in this, with tyrants leading their cities. If you would like to hear more and support the series click on the Patreon link at the bottom of the page or you can head to my website to discover other ways to support the series, HereISupport the show
