Irish Businesses Unprepared for DORA EU Act, Cybersecurity Company Warns

"Businesses in Ireland are ill-prepared for the EU Regulatory Act, DORA, which applies from January 2025." According to Paul Delahunty, Chief Information Security Officer with Stryve, the Irish multi-cloud company. Stryve is urging businesses to act now to ensure that they are compliant. The Digital Operational Resilience Act applies to financial entities and their critical ICT (Information Communication and Technology) suppliers. Delahunty explains, "Christine Lagarde identified a major cyber incident as having the potential to cause a liquidity crisis across Europe. The DORA legislation is the EU's response to harmonise ICT risk management in Europe and mitigate this risk to the European Central Bank." DORA Legislation puts the onus on the leadership to comply He continues, "DORA is now in force. Companies have until January 17th 2025, to make sure they comply. That means companies affected by the Act have just one year to get their house in order or potentially face embarrassing repercussions, financial penalties or possible criminal sanctions." The legislation places the onus on the company leadership to comply with the Act. Therefore, members of the C-Suite and management teams may be personally responsible. Paul said, "We are likely to see heavy 'GDPR-like' penalties applied from 2025 for companies who do not make an effort to comply. DORA is a risk-based approach where ICT and financial entities are expected to take steps to mitigate 'reasonably identifiable' cybersecurity risks. Companies are not expected to have a crystal ball or predict every possibility; however, they are expected to put sensible measures in place to reduce their risk." According to a survey conducted by Stryve: 54 per cent are not aware of the legislation 82 per cent of respondents do not understand their responsibility under the Digital Operational Resilience Act. 83 per cent are unfamiliar with the five pillars of the legislation. 63 per cent admit they are not well prepared for the Act. The DORA framework outlines the standards for ICT risk management and operational resilience across the European financial sector. The framework is built upon five pillars. ICT risk management, ICT-related incident management and classification reporting, digital operational resilience testing, management of ICT third-party risk, and an information-sharing arrangement between European financial institutions. Stryve is reminding businesses to act now to understand and reduce the risk. Can jerky be disruptive? Absolutely. Joe Oblas, co-founder and CEO of Stryve, decided to disrupt the beef snacks category with a brand that doesn't believe in compromises. Stryve's “jerky without the junky” product is nutritious and delicious. That's because they use biltong, an air-dried meat snack with 50% more protein than jerky — and no sugar, nitrates, preservatives, or chemicals. “Typically, the healthier a snack product is, the worse it tastes,” Joe shared. But that isn't true with biltong — it's almost like a miracle snack. Together, Joe and host Kristi Bridges explore biltong's South African roots and its growing foothold in the U.S. market. “It checked every single box we had,” Joe said. “We were all in.” Despite hurdles — a pandemic and drastically increased commodity prices — Stryve has grown significantly since its founding in 2018. Joe shares why he and his business partner chose to become a publicly-traded company, what keeps him motivated through difficult times, and some valuable advice for entrepreneurs at the beginning of their founding journey.

KANSAS CITY, MO. – In August 2021, Plano, Texas-based Stryve Foods launched a line of premium supplements called Stryve Nutrition. Supplements may seem like a departure for a company known for its better-for-you portfolio of air-dried meat snacks, but for Stryve, the meat snacks are a natural progression to provide health-conscious consumers with high-quality supplements and snacks from a trusted brand. The new products include collagen protein powder, bone broth protein, pre-workout mixes and gummies – functional foods loaded with protein but without the stuff consumers say they don't want such as GMOs, sugar, gluten, soy and dairy. Health and wellness always have been top-of-mind for consumers, but that focus only intensified during the last two years as the coronavirus pandemic held the world in its grip. But even as restrictions and mandates begin to loosen, consumer demand for healthy, better-for-you foods is here to stay and expected to grow alongside consumers' desire for personalization and convenience. Stryve's “better” brand evolution focuses on healthy eating and snacking, to support consumers' growing focus on maintaining immune health and preventive measures against lifestyle and age-related ailments. The company is positioning the new collagen and bone broths as a complement to the portfolio of meat snacks that got Stryve noticed in 2017, when former National Football League player Gabe Carimi, Dymatize founder Ted Casey and Pro-Supps founder Joe Oblas launched the company. At the time, the brand started with snack bites, meat sticks and a little-known meat snack called biltong – an air-dried, cured and sliced beef protein snack with origins in South Africa. Biltong was ideal for American consumers wanting to increase their intake of lean protein with little to no carbohydrates, sugar, nitrates or other additives. Stryve entered the snacking scene at a time when the trend of consumers substituting snacks for main meals began to catch fire. Driven by a desire for convenience without sacrificing taste or nutritional value, consumers turned to meat snacks of all types and varying proteins. Stryve embarked on a growth streak that netted the company millions of dollars in funding which enabled its expansion through acquisitions. By 2021, Stryve had captured 85% market share of the air-dried meat business in the United States and established distribution agreements that added more than 4,000 additional retail locations to carry the company's Stryve, Kalahari and Vacadillos meat snack brands. In this episode of the MEAT+POULTRY Podcast, Joe Oblas, co-chief executive officer and one of the original founders of Stryve, traces the company's journey from primarily meat snack manufacturing to a purveyor of premium nutrition supplements, the company's expectations for success and how Stryve will become the go-to brand for better nutrition and taste. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/meatpoultry-podcast/message

For a lot of recruitment business owners, going to the next level and scaling their business can present unexpected challenges. But no matter how difficult you're finding it to grow your recruitment business, I hope today's episode will inspire you to never give up! My special guest, Edward Chamberlain, shared that by far his biggest challenge was scaling the business. In this episode, he shared how he was able to overcome a lot of obstacles you may also be facing now and build a really successful recruitment business from scratch, with no external investment. Ed is a serial entrepreneur and founder of Altus Partners, a market leader in Private Equity search with a team of 30 people. Ed also co-founded C&C search with his sister Lucy, an HR and business support recruiting firm. Both of these firms generate multi-million pounds in revenue. Previously, Ed was a founding member of Investigo (a Virgin fast-track business), which grew from a team of 4 to over 250 people, before its sale. He recently launched Stryve, an ATS that can help SMEs grow their businesses faster. Episode Outline and Highlights [1:52] A serial entrepreneur: Ed reveals how he started Altus Partners. [3:41] What is the ‘hybrid search' model? [7:57] What is the map and track approach? [10:08] Enhancing your selection process with the Hogan Psychometric Evaluation. [12:16] Ed's biggest challenge and lessons learned.  [22:28] What a robust People Plan looks like. [24:28] Two keys to replicating your effectiveness as a recruiter to your whole team. [27:51] Why Ed believes that retained recruiting is the best approach in favor of the client. [33:17] Good business books recommended by Ed. [37:10] Ed's advice to recruitment business owners who want to scale their business. [45:47] Recruiting and building a community of like-minded people . [51:49] Training as a key pillar of the business during the pandemic. [56:54] What motivated Ed to create their own ATS (Applicant Tracking System). Innovative Tools to Add Rigor to the Process As we talked about best practices, one thing I noticed is how Ed is constantly innovating and striving to add rigor to the recruiting process on behalf of the client. Ed breaks down his unique search methodology and highlights a few of the key elements:  The Hybrid Search model The Map and Track approach Creating an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) The Hogan Psychometric evaluation tool You will definitely enjoy learning about how Edward's focus on constant improvement has helped with client acquisition and scaling his businesses. The Challenge of Scaling A Business Ed is definitely a serial entrepreneur, but you might be surprised that one of the biggest challenges he had to overcome was scaling his business. He was very open about sharing his failures and learnings. You may be able to relate to some of these challenges. You will hear Ed's advice on how to create a robust People Plan, replicating your effectiveness as a recruiter to your team, and why the retained approach works best for you and the client. Ed's Advice If You Want to Scale So if there was one key piece of advice he would give to a business owner who wants to scale, what would that be? Ed said, “If you are going to start a recruitment firm, generally speaking you are going to be a salesperson or recruiter before that. Inherently what goes hand in hand in that is individuals that don't like planning and often don't like the administration piece. The bit of advice I would give to anyone is to make sure to go back and do that. Put it together, put your finances together, put a really good business plan.”  Our Sponsors This podcast is proudly sponsored by i-intro®.  i-intro® is an end-to-end retained recruitment platform. This episode is packed with advice for anyone launching a consumer packaged good, but especially one in the food or beverage space. This is an extremely wide ranging conversation - we talk about: finding the right partners acquiring manufacturing stifling competition getting into major retail chains marketing and sampling why direct-to-consumer online sales isn't the future they're chasing. Here's another interesting thing: All three co-founders are very, very wealthy. So why did they take on outside investment capital? Also, what the heck is Biltong? If you've ever wondered what it takes to bring a food product to market, our conversation will open your eyes!
