They covered recent Hellraiser developments including new one-shot comics from Boom Studios focusing on different Cenobites, the upcoming Hellraiser game releasing October 8th, and new Trick or Treat Studios action figures. The main discussion centered on "The Body Politic," a story about Charlie George whose hands rebel against his body, exploring themes of revolution, control, and the consequences of breaking away from societal structures. The hosts analyzed the story's metaphors, its film adaptation in "Quicksilver Highway," and received feedback from listeners about their experiences with the story. They also discussed upcoming commentary tracks for Prince of Darkness and Angel Heart. Summary Hellraiser Comic Series Announcements The podcast hosts discussed recent Hellraiser news, including Boom Studios' announcement of five new Hellraiser one-shot comics titled "Hellraiser Resurrections" focusing on different Cenobites. They reviewed details about each comic's plot and characters, noting that these appear to be standalone stories that could potentially lead to a new series. The discussion also covered a successful Kickstarter campaign called "Leviathan's Vault" that raised nearly $900,000 to reissue Hellraiser comics, including volumes from 2011 and various limited series. The conversation concluded with a brief mention of the Hellraiser revival game, though details about this were not provided in the transcript segment. Hellraiser Game and Figures Release The group discussed the upcoming release of a Hellraiser game on October 8th, with José sharing details from gameplay demos including melee attacks, gunplay, puzzles, and a crafting system. They also discussed new Trick or Treat Studios Hellraiser figures that are available for pre-order, with an estimated shipping date of December 9, 2026, and a special bundle price of $159.96. The figures will be 8 inches tall with some articulation features, and were sculpted by Alexander Ray. Clive Barker's "The Body Politic The group discussed Clive Barker's story "The Body Politic," focusing on its extended metaphor about body parts rebelling against the control of the brain. They analyzed how the story explores themes of revolution, tyranny, and the consequences of following a wrong leader, particularly through the character of Charlie George whose hands conspire against him. The discussion included details about the film adaptation in "Quicksilver Highway" and compared it to the original story, noting differences in the ending where Charlie jumps from a roof followed by the hands, leading to their collective doom. Clive Barker's "The Collection" Analysis The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Collection" and its film adaptation, focusing on themes of revolution and the body's autonomy. They analyzed how the story explores the concept of body parts rebelling against their owners, with José noting the film's cameos including Clive Barker and John Landis. The discussion concluded with speculation about which body part would be most terrifying if it rebelled, with eyes and butts being particular points of concern. Clive Barker Story Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Body Politic," sharing personal reactions and experiences, including one listener's connection to the story through a personal injury. They reviewed comments from Reddit and their listeners' group, noting the story's themes of revolution and control. The team announced their next content will be audio commentaries for the 1987 films "Prince of Darkness" and "Angel Heart," chosen after a tie vote between those films and "Hellraiser." They also mentioned upcoming content including "The Inhuman Condition" in their Book Club of Blood series.

Discovering Plants with Healing Powers with guest Ava Long, Clinical Herbalist and Owner, Floral Botanical Medicine Greek physician Hippocrates is attributed with saying “Nature is the best physician.” Herbalism is the study and practice of using plants for medicinal, therapeutic, and health-promoting purposes.Ancient Greek herbalism helped form the foundation of modern herbal medicine and the emphasis on the balance between nature, health and philosophy. Every plant seems to have its own special healing superpowers, and a relatable story to tell. Clinical herbalist Ava Long shares her story and her approach to herbal science. Ava Long is the owner of Floral Botanical Medicine, a health and wellness practice. Her diagnostic approach incorporates live blood microscopy to uncover root causes of chronic health concerns. She develops individualized herbal protocols for detoxification and for restoring balance and achieving optimal health. Ava has trained at various institutions, including the Boston School of Herbal Studies, where she also serves as an adjunct professor. She is also the founder of Maine Sea Greens, a seaweed food product combining her passion for herbalism and seaweed. Through her work, she helps others benefit from ancient holistic practices alongside modern technology. Note: Roughly 30 percent of the global population is at risk for iodine deficiency. Symptoms of iodine deficiency include unexplained weight gain, chronic fatigue, cold sensitivity, dry skin, thinning hair, and enlarged thyroid gland. Seaweed, the best natural source of iodine, is an excellent herbal and dietary addition for supporting thyroid health, regulating blood sugar, and providing antioxidant protection. Seaweed should, however, be consumed in moderation to avoid excess iodine. Say "Louis Cyphre" out loud if you haven't put it together already. ANGEL HEART protagonist Harold Angel (another pun?), played by Mickey Rourke, fails this test spectacularly, and heads out on an American tour trying to find out the whereabouts of jazz singer Johnny Favorite at the behest of Mr. Cyphre. Angel arrives in New Orleans, where he meets the 17-year-old Mambo priestess Epiphany Proudfoot, played by Lisa Bonet in her first adult role post-COSBY SHOW, which scandalized audiences with nudity and sexual violence that reportedly almost earned the film an X rating. Angel's tumultuous sexual relationship with Proudfoot leads him to a shocking self-realization that becomes the turning point in the case he's building on Johnny Favorite. This plot hits so many "angelslop" tropes common to the genre: the barely-disguised devil played by a famous actor (Robert De Niro in this case), a colonialist view of Black syncretic Christian/occult practices, a plot about a jazz musician selling his soul, and even the shocking final twist. It's still not clear to us exactly what movie's success started angelslop, but we theorize it may have been WINGS OF DESIRE, combined with a broad pop cultural yearning for spiritual guidance as the rise of instantaneous mass media coverage of world crises led people to cynicism and skepticism. Regardless of the cause, ANGEL HEART provides an artistic touch to the angelslop genre that alternates between campy and deep. They reviewed the Hellraiser Revival game's Cenobite Collector's Edition, comparing it to the previous Leviathan edition and noting the lack of a signed Clive Barker print as a key difference. The hosts watched a new developer diary for the game, showcasing more detailed Cenobite animations and gameplay footage with Doug Bradley's voice work. They also discussed upcoming Hellraiser conventions including Mad Monster Party in Arizona and Days of the Dead events in Chicago and Atlanta, featuring several Cenobite actors. The podcast concluded with plans for their next book club discussion of "The Body Politic" from Books of Blood Volume 4 and a vote on which 1987 film to compare to Hellraiser. Hellraiser Developer Diary Discussion Ryan and José discussed technical issues with audio and video settings before planning to watch a developer diary video about Cenobytes and Pinhead from the Hellraiser series. José shared a link to a YouTube video and they briefly discussed its content, though Ryan only watched a 30-second preview due to the initial link issue. The conversation ended with Ryan asking about "Team French" but the question remained unclear due to audio issues. Nightbreed 4K Restoration Discussion José and Ryan discussed a new 4K restoration of the film Nightbreed, including both theatrical and director's cuts, with enhanced features like Dolby Vision HDR, new artwork, and a companion book. They reflected on previous collector's editions and debated whether physical media releases, including 4K, would continue to be relevant given the rise of digital formats. Both agreed that while digital media is growing, physical media will likely persist in some form, particularly for collectors and professionals in the film industry. Physical Media's Enduring Relevance José and Ryan discussed the ongoing relevance of physical media in the age of streaming services. They noted that while streaming has become popular, limitations in internet speeds and the temporary nature of licensed content on platforms like Netflix mean physical media will likely continue to have a place. They highlighted how streaming platforms have shifted focus toward producing their own content rather than licensing existing material, leading viewers to seek out older content on alternative platforms like YouTube. The conversation concluded with appreciation for companies like Arrow, Shout Factory, and Turbine Media that continue to produce physical media releases. Nightbreed 4K Release Discussion Ryan and José discussed a new Arrow Video 4K release of Nightbreed, comparing the UK and potential US versions. They noted that the UK release includes exclusive extras like behind-the-scenes footage and UK-specific content, though they were uncertain if these features would be included in the US version. The UK release is priced at 30 pounds, which Ryan and José considered a good deal, though they agreed to wait for the US release to potentially save money and see if it includes similar extras. Hellraiser Game Edition Comparisons José and Ryan discussed the differences between various editions of the Hellraiser Revival game, including the new Cenobite Collector's Edition priced at $199. They compared features between the Leviathan Edition and Cenobite Edition, noting that the Leviathan includes a hand-signed art print while the Cenobite edition features a Cenobite statue and other exclusive items. The discussion highlighted concerns about the long pre-order period, which has been ongoing for about a year since the last pre-order update in June 2025, and they noted that the new dev diary "Cenobytes" provides additional footage of Cenobites in the game. Hellraiser Revival Collector's Edition Discussion José and Ryan discussed a Hellraiser Revival Collector's Edition, which includes a Cenobite statue, puzzle box, enamel pins, and a digital soundtrack. They watched a dev diary video showcasing the game's features, including platforming elements and various Cenobite characters. The video highlighted the game's focus on grotesque scenes and jump scares, with Doug Bradley's involvement adding credibility to the project. José and Ryan noted the game's potential for a gradual descent into horror, similar to Big Trouble in Little China, and expressed hope for an upcoming release date announcement. Temple of the Killer Tiger Monkeys Ryan and José discussed the audio drama "Temple of the Killer Tiger Monkeys," which features original Cenobite actors including Doug Bradley, Simon Bamford, and Nicholas Vince. They agreed to create a future podcast episode about the series, potentially including an interview with Simon Banford. The conversation also covered Ghanaian movie posters, specifically a Hellraiser poster by artist Heavy J, which is now available for purchase through Deadly Prey Gallery. Finally, they mentioned upcoming Hellraiser and Nightbreed conventions featuring the Cenobite actors. Horror Conventions and Content Planning José and Ryan discussed upcoming horror conventions, including Mad Monster Party Arizona in July 2026 and Days of the Dead events in Chicago and Atlanta. They expressed interest in meeting Peter Atkins at the Chicago event in November 2026, with both planning to discuss time off work to attend. José also mentioned upcoming content plans, including a book club discussion of "The Body Politic" from Books of Blood Volume 4 and a vote on a 1987 movie to compete against Hellraiser. Horror Movies Discussion Ryan and José discussed various horror movies, including The Lost Boys, Prince of Darkness, The Gate, Bad Taste, Angel Heart, Beaks, and Iron Warrior. They shared their opinions on these films, with José expressing a preference for Bad Taste due to its chaotic nature. Ryan mentioned his interest in watching Prince of Darkness, The Gate, or Angel Heart again. They also briefly discussed actor Stephen Dorff's role in The Gate and his appearance in Blade. The conversation concluded with José mentioning Nicholas Vince's recent campaign for the Green Party in the UK elections. UK Elections and Media Discussion José and Ryan discussed recent local elections in the UK, with Ryan encouraging José to vote for Nicholas Vince in future elections. They then talked about editing a podcast episode, noting that while some parts like screen sharing would be easy to edit out, removing fillers like "ums" would be more time-consuming. The conversation concluded with a discussion about a Hellraiser script booklet, comparing different versions and discussing whether certain autographs were real or printed.
Episode 315: Angel Heart/The Serpent and the Rainbow. Picking up on our recent conversation about The Believers (1987), we take a look at two other late 80s genre mashups combining noir crime thriller elements with supernatural religious horrors and A-list stars. Protecting Old Growth Forests with guest Nathan Cornell, Co-founder and President, Old Growth Tree Society Old growth forests have been disappearing at an alarming rate around the world due to clear-cutting. These undisturbed natural forests host rare ecosystems of native plant and animal diversity. Old growth forests store more carbon than younger forests and other landscapes. They are more resistant to wildfire, prevent flooding, and have an extensive underground mycorrhizal network that makes them more resilient to pests and disease. Nathan Cornell is the Co-founder and President of the Old Growth Tree Society. He learned to identify Old Growth forests from arborist and Old Growth Forest expert Matthew Largess, who studied under Dr. Bruce Kershner, a renowned old growth forest authority. Since 2020, Cornell has been a leading voice calling for protection of Rhode Island's remaining Old Growth forests and rare ecosystems. After realizing no other state environmental group was trying to protect forests and biodiversity on public land, Cornell co-founded the organization with ecologist Rick Enser. The OGTS aims to pass legislation to preserve Rhode Island's natural landscape. In addition to his forest advocacy work, Cornell served a term on the Warwick School Committee as the youngest person elected to a public office in Warwick's history. Note: Four days after this interview, the proposed legislation 2026 – H 7914 was heard by the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Seventy-six people submitted written testimony supporting the bill – more than any other RI environmental bill so far this year. People and groups testifying in support included an ISA-credentialed Arborist, an Ecologist, Defenders of Animals, Volunteer Services for Animals, the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association, the Tiverton Land Trust, the North Smithfield Land Trust, the Pawtuxet River Authority, Restore The Northwoods, and the Old Growth Forest Network. Clean Made Simple: Natural Toxin-Free Living with guest Beth Newberry, Advocate and Platinum Ambassador, Pure Haven Some of the most heavily-marketed and highly-recognized name brand consumer products today are formulated with toxic chemical ingredients. When these pollutants find their way into the air and water around us, they harm healthy ecosystems? How can we make non-toxic consumer product choices that are more earth-friendly? My guest, Beth Newberry, will help answer these questions and give practical tips for reading ingredient labels. Newberry is a Platinum Ambassador for Pure Haven. She started her foray into non-toxic living 16 years ago when her middle son, Liam was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. She began reading labels on her products and researching the ingredients and realized that many conventional products contain neurotoxins. This drove her passion to educate others on the same topic, and she began supporting more families with switching out to non-toxic alternatives. In addition to her work at Pure Haven, Newberry also chairs the Groundwater Protection Committee in her town of North Smithfield, Rhode Island. Consumers are making healthier choices with regards to food. Making healthier choices with respect to household cleaning and personal care product choices is a natural next step. Bird Building Collision Monitoring: Migratory Bird Conservation Guest Elaine Carlson, Volunteer, Chicago Bird Collision Monitoring Los Angeles, New York and Chicago are the biggest U.S. cities located along major migratory flyways, and the number of birds that die crashing into high-rise buildings is astonishing. These collisions are caused by the reflective and transparent qualities of glass windows that create optical illusions and extend the perceived landscape. Citizen science volunteers have been collecting data to inspire corrective action and inform city planning policy. There are simple solutions that can drastically reduce the likelihood of bird-window collisions. Elaine Carlson is a long-time Chicago resident, having moved to the Windy City after college to pursue a theater dream. Born and raised in the Appalachian foothills of southwestern Pennsylvania, she developed a strong appreciation for wildlife. This affinity for the natural world, combined with her work in education and her (maybe slightly over-developed) sense of team spirit, made her a perfect fit for a volunteer position with Chicago Bird Collision Monitors. For the past nine years - every spring and fall – she has spent her early morning hours walking the city streets and recovering migratory birds that collide with Chicago's downtown buildings. She has responded to hundreds of hotline calls from concerned citizens: running out of the door, net in hand, to scoop up stunned and injured birds from balconies, parking lots and city streets. Elaine has rescued well over 1,000 injured birds and documented over 1,500 fatalities. And, she has met many wonderful, like-minded people along the way. Nature as Teacher: Stories and Reflections from Nature Journaling with Wendy Nadherny Fachon, Environmental Educator and Spiritual Storywalker Poet Williams Wordsworth is noted for saying, “Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher.” He regarded Nature as a living personality (spelled with a capital N) and presumed there is a divine spirit in all objects of Nature. He believed Nature's supernatural intellect could teach one how to live a spiritual life. Nature's lessons are subtle, so in order to derive the most benefit from Nature's wisdom, it is necessary for us humans to slow down, pay attention, and take time to reflect. In this episode, Wendy shares two bird watching stories from her Nature Journal, makes meaning from these stories, and leaves listeners with some life lessons and food for further thought. Birds have long been regarded as messengers, heralds, and symbols of profound meaning for thousands of years among many cultures. The observation of bird behavior can help children grasp spiritual concepts. Flight becomes a metaphor for freedom, transcendence and heaven. This episode is a sound journey full of story, reflection, interpretation, poetry and song. Meet the Wild Things: Children's Books for Conservation Guests Hayley and John Rocco, Children's Author and Illustrator Team, Co-founders of Children's Book Creators for Conservation (CBCC) One million species are threatened with extinction, and the number one cause is habitat loss. We have the knowledge and the ability to reverse this trend by 1) protecting important areas from destruction, 2) restoring habitats that have been lost, and 3) rewilding restored habitats. Rewilding means reintroducing wild species in a way that brings back ecological balance. Guests Hayley and John Rocco are the co-founders of Children's Book Creators for Conservation (CBCC), a collective of children's book authors and illustrators who support conservation efforts with the mission to partner with organizations like Wild Tomorrow. Members of this collective use their creative storytelling skills to amplify the work of conservationists and make lasting connections with young readers that cultivate a climate of hope. Their stories empower children with the knowledge, inspiration and confidence they need to be change makers and future leaders. Hayley Rocco is the author of multiple books for young readers including Wild Places: The Life of Naturalist David Attenborough and the Meet the Wild Things series about endangered animals which she and her husband, John Rocco, created together. An ambassador for Wild Tomorrow, a nonprofit focused on conservation and rewilding South Africa, Hayley travels the world armed with a pen, a journal, and her camera, discovering stories of wild things and wild places. John Rocco is the #1 New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of many acclaimed books for children, including Blackout, the recipient of a Caldecott Honor, and How We Got to the Moon, which received a Sibert Honor and was longlisted for the National Book Award. John, also an ambassador for Wild Tomorrow, ventures with Hayley into the wild in search of stories they can bring back and share with readers everywhere. John and Hayley live in Rhode Island in an old house tucked in the woods near the sea. This episode's outro is a clip from Forever by HappyWorldWithMochi.Correction: we called it an AWS Attack. Apparently nothing was attacked. My guest this week is Alma Katsu, the award-winning, critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling author of nine novels. Alma has written two spy novels, "Red Widow" and "Red London," inspired by her 35-year career working in intelligence. She also writes novels that combine historical fiction with supernatural and horror elements."The Hunger" was a re-imagining of the story of the Donner Party and named one of NPR's 100 favorite horror stories. Her first book, "The Taker," was named one of the top 10 debut novels of 2011 by Booklist. And her latest novel, brand new, hot off the presses, is "Fiend," which examines our fascination with the ultra wealthy through a lens that combines dark fantasy and horror. Think Succession meets Angel Heart, if you're old enough to remember that movie.Alma's books have been translated into over a dozen languages and several are in various stages of film and television development. She's also a contributor to the Washington Post book world where she reviews thrillers. We covered:- How she came to work in US intelligence for 35 years, despite having early ambitions of being a writer- Why she writes so many different genres (spy thrillers, horror, speculative fiction)- An inside peek at just an absolutely fascinating government career- The illness that got her writing again- The challenges of building a readership- Why she thinks writing a novel that's inspired by the news is more persuasive than writing an article- How her background in intelligence helps her come up with ideas for her novels- Unlearning old habits of driving herself too hard- Recommitting to exercise so she has stamina for book toursConnect with Alma on Substack: https://substack.com/@almakatsuFor full show notes with links to everything we discuss, plus bonus photos!, visit katehanley.substack.com.Thank you for listening! And thanks to this week's sponsor, Aqua Tru. Story Rolling: Outdoor Wheelchair Access Guest Tina Guenette, Founder, President and CEO of RAMP ( Real Access Motivates Progress) An astonishing number of people rely on wheelchairs and mobility aids... veterans disabled in war... young victims of driving accidents... patients harmed by failed medical procedures... people suffering from neurodegenerative diseases... elderly moving from a cane to a walker and on to a wheel chair, as their bodies age and weaken... and pediatric brain cancer patients being wheeled around in strollers. We all know someone, and yet we are unlikely to see many of these people out and about, because so much of the environment is ill designed for those with restricted mobility. Guest Tina Guenette explains the massive scope of such limited accessibility and brings the bigger story out into the light. Tina is the founder of RAMP, which stands for Real Access Motivates Progress. RAMP is a national non-profit dedicated to smashing barriers for people with disabilities. The organization champions accessibility and promotes equal opportunities through innovation, advocacy and education, fostering a more equitable future for citizens with mobility disabilities. Tina is both a motivational speaker and a living testament to the power of perseverance. After surviving four battles with cancer, multiple strokes and heart attacks, Tina faced her greatest challenge in 2014, when a spinal stroke during routine surgery left her paralyzed from the waist down. Her firsthand experience, navigating a world not built for her, ignited a fire to educate, empower and create systemic change. Refusing to let her wheelchair define her limits, Tina channeled her journey into action and founded RAMP in 2019. As its President and CEO, she fights tirelessly to transform inaccessible spaces and mindsets, proving that true progress begins with inclusion. She shows how we can all make a difference for those less mobile than us, and her impact has earned nationwide acclaim. This week we were able to have a very unique conversation with artist and trained intimacy coach Victoria Angel Heart on episode 276! Victoria gave a ton of insightful information on this one and the chat was very enlightening as her spirit and positive energy were felt throughout. She told us about her roots in music and her very inspiring story that led her to not only become a singer and songwriter but also how she channels a higher energy and frequency to help craft her music. This has also allowed her to integrate her art into her work with clients in intimacy coaching where she helps them channel their inner feelings, tap into their sexuality and also find a greater meaning within themselves to help them each to live a better life. Overall we felt Vistoria's passion and heart that she has to approach her work and her life in general and to us it is something that will inspire everyone out there listening. Drawing on everything from Dougal and the Blue Cat to Angel Heart, from Walter Murch's “pickle jar” of sound to Tarantino-style needle drops, Kermode turns listening into a way of seeing: treat scores as storytelling, not wallpaper; hear nostalgia without depending on it; notice how rooms, acoustics, and “vibrations” change performances; and understand why live accompaniment can transform a film in the moment. Along the way: Ken Russell's emotional maximalism, Under the Skin's alien minimalism, American Graffiti's jukebox world-building, and the strange alchemy that turns cues into cinema. In an age of playlists and temp tracks, Kermode offers practical tools: the “trust Neil Brand” rule for live scoring (watch the film, watch each other), left-hand “semaphore” for staying in key, the needle-drop test (does the song deepen the scene or just decorate it?), room-tuning for performance energy, analogical listening (let pop, jazz, and electronics cross-pollinate), and permission to change your mind as the years—and the mixes—change. The result is criticism reimagined as a compassionate daily practice: not to win arguments about taste, but to listen better, feel more, and love movies more deeply. Learn more about your ad choices. In a rare surfacing in the contemporary world, JF and Phil discuss a film that has just been released. Bryn Chainey's Rabbit Trap is psychological horror in the tradition of Repulsion, Jacob's Ladder, and Angel Heart. But it is more: a metaphysical film exploring the mystery of sound and the Otherworld of Faerie—an excursion into that weird country, so deftly explored by Arthur Machen and Algernon Blackwood, where wonder and terror perform their eldritch duets. Walk & Roll to School: The Positive Environmental and Health Impacts Guests: Stephen Heiny, research associate, Highway Safety Research Center, University of North Carolina (UNC), and Ishaa Gadkari, State Physical Activity Coordinator, RI Department of Health - Healthy Eating and Active Living Program (HEAL). In 1969, 48 percent of students in grades K-8 walked or rode a bike to school. In 2017, only 11 percent of students in grades K-8 eight walked or rode bikes to school. Research studies identify safety concerns as the primary reason for the decrease. Safety considerations include traffic volume and speed, sidewalk and crosswalk infrastructure, incidents of crime and levels of policing. In this episode, we talk about how to redesign community environments in ways that support safe routes to school and events like the National Walk & Roll to School Day, an annual October event. We also discuss the environmental and health benefits of walking to school. Stephen Heiny joins us from the Highway Safety Research Center. He focuses on youth active travel safety, Vision Zero and the Safe System approach, supporting safety efforts in North Carolina and across the United States. He evaluates speed reduction countermeasures, provides technical assistance for Safe Routes to School programs and supports the annual Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day events. Ishaa Gadkari joins us from the RI Department of Health. As the State Physical Activity Coordinator, she directs the Healthy Eating and Active Living Program (HEAL). Ishaa specializes in projects related to the built environment, active transportation and physical activity. She is passionate about walkable cities and environments, public transportation and health policy. That's right . . . we made it to episode 100! Taking a nod from Fangoria Magazine from back in the day, when they would put out their annual "Bloody Best Of" issue, we're going to follow suit (in a way) by revisiting favorite moments from our previous 99. When we published our first episode back on Oct. 5th, 2021, who knew we were going to make it this far? But we can honestly say that hearing all the positive feedback from you, our listeners, and hearing that you are seeking out films because we talked about them, seeing them either for the first time, or maybe seeing more of them a second or third time around, really does make all the work we put into each show worth it. And has us excited to bring you another 100. So we have much more in store for you, but for now, sit back and enjoy some highlights from past shows, as well as learning once again why keep this going, and why we all will never stop Discovering the Horror! Films mentioned in this episode: 3 on a Meathook (1972), Accion Mutante (1993), Angel Heart (1987), Army of Darkness (1992), Blood Freak (1972), Class of Nuke ‘Em High Part II: Subhumanoid Meltdown (1991), A Cold Night's Death (1973), The Cursed (2021), Day of the Beast (1995), Evil Dead 2 (1987), The Exorcist (1973), Frankenstein (1931), Hell of the Living Dead (1980), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Juan of the Dead (2011), Killdozer (1974), Mark of the Wolfman aka Frankenstein's Bloody Terror (1967), Nekromantik (1988), The Norliss Tapes (1973), Salem's Lot (1979), Snowbeast (1977), Sugar Hill (1974), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), This House Possessed (1981), Wild Zero (1999), Witching and Bitching (2013), Zombie (1979)

Down to Earth Plant Messengers with Johnny Jumpup, L. Spectabilis, Ananassa and Wendy Nadherny Fachon, Author of The Angel Heart Plants are beings of consciousness, capable of communicating with humans, if humans are paying attention with extrasensory perceptiveness. Cultivating our sensory abilities can enhance our appreciation of Nature and our connectedness to loved ones who have passed on to the next life. This episode shares three remarkable stories of different plants that have carried messages from heaven down to earth. One of these stories is The Angel Heart, written and illustrated by show host Wendy Nadherny Fachon. She created the storybook with four objectives in mind: to open hearts and minds and foster greater empathy, compassion and connectedness; to help parents create stronger bonds with their children through modeling, open communication and shared experience; to help cultivate children's reading, language and cognitive skills; and to show how Nature speaks and connects us with our loved ones. Fachon asserts that all of these objectives can help readers and listeners achieve higher consciousness and inner peace. She talks about the book's inspiration and explains how it came into being. Look for The Angel Heart at Amazon Books. New edition coming soon. Look for the cover with the blue sky and heavenly clouds. The Losers are back in The Stacks for another round for recommendations, digressions, and musings about the joys of the written word. Randall, Ashley, Sammie, and Julia begin by gabbing about some of May's new horror and genre releases and riffing on the latest news from the literary world, including Michael B. We discuss both the Supernatural Season 10, Episode 20, Angel Heart, and the 1987 movie of the same name. Do they have anything in common? How many felonies did Sam Winchester teach Claire in this episode?
Brett and Thomas are joined by Sean McCann and Dr. Hans Utter for a deep dive into Angel Heart, a mystery horror movie released in 1987, directed by Alan Parker and starring Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro. Set in New Orleans in 1955, the film is a Faustian tale about the disappearance of a singer named Johnny Favorite, giving us the chance to consider the occult origins of the modern music industry at length. A Satanic film about Satanic pacts, Angel Heart is filled with revelation of the method designed to disorient and destabilize its audience and contains abundant subtext about how the MK-entertainment industry creates IMSAs (Illuminati Mind Slave Artists). We also speak extensively about the nexus of voodoo, the occult, and modern styles of music.https://onegreatworknetwork.com/sean-mccannhttps://x.com/SeanWakeTheDead Eyes Wide Open Hans Utter Investigateshttps://x.com/EWOhansutter https://hansutter.com/ https://twitter.com/CinemaPsyophttps://www.patreon.com/PsyopCinemahttp://psyop-cinema.com/https://linktr.ee/psyopcinema thomas-psyopcinema@protonmail.combrett-psyopcinema@protonmail.comhttps://decoding-culture.com/magazine-home/
Regenerative Farming: Healing the Land One Bite at a Time Guest Joel Salatin, Owner, Polyface Farm What if consumers could gradually move away from purchasing energy-intensive industrial food and go back to buying whole foods farmed with earth-friendly methods? Every such purchase would help those people heal themselves and heal the land, rebuild healthy soil, clear the air and purify the water. Many people are under the misconception that cattle contribute to increases in greenhouse gases. Guest Joel Salatin tells the real story. With a room full of debate trophies, 16 published books and a thriving multi-generational family farm, Salatin can clearly explain how to manage cattle, so that they can solve some of today's most pressing ecological concerns. He is world-renowned for using livestock to rebuild the land and soil. He applies chemical free farming methods and shows how animal husbandry is one of the answers to a greener, cleaner, healthier world for all. Salatin is also a delightful storyteller, who characterizes himself as a Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer. Many describe him as the most famous farmer in the world, the high priest of the pasture and the most eclectic thinker from Virginia since Thomas Jefferson. He draws on a lifetime of food, farming and fantasy to entertain and inspire audiences around the world. Salatin devotes one segment of this episode to talking about Beyond Labels, which he co-authored with Dr. Sina McCollough. who has a Ph.D. in Nutrition and actually understands unpronounceable carbon chains, Beyond Labels is an informative and entertaining book that leads readers on a journey from generally unhealthy food and farming to an ultimately healing place. Farm and Forest Schooling for Kids Guest Kelly McNiff, Founder, Farm and Forest Education Center at Pat's Pastured Our food purchasing choices impact both our physical health and environmental sustainability. We can empower children and families by teaching how real food is produced. Fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs and chickens that are regeneratively grown by local farms are far more nutritious and more sustainable than highly-processed food products shipped thousands of miles to distant markets. The Farm and Forest Education Center at Pat's Pastured is a local non-profit that helps students explore how good food is grown, giving them the opportunity to observe and care for farm animals and their surrounding environment. Pat's Pastured is a local Rhode Island Farm with more than 150 acres of green pasture and woodlots. Humanely-raised livestock moves through rotational pastures with plenty of space to roam free. In 2016, Kelly McNiff, who co-runs the farm with her husband, began running a summer camp in partnership with her sister, Stacy Gale. Kelly is a certified elementary teacher with over 15 years of classroom experience. She earned her undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and pursued her graduate studies at the Teton Science School in Wyoming, where she discovered her passion for place-based learning and outdoor education. Kelly brought her fourth grade students from Providence to experience hands-on learning at the farm, and she talks about her observations and the tremendous benefits to her students. The Farm and Forest Education Center now offers afterschool programs and facilitates school field trip experiences. Join us for this episode to hear more. Angel Heart - "I Don't Like Messy Accounts" For the end of the year we are tying up our loose ends with De Niro, Rourke & Bonet in ANGEL HEART (1987). A Faustian tale that goes all the way to hell and back. A film that was extremely controversial when it came out - Bonet had to exit the "wholesome" sitcom she had starred on prior.Beautiful cinematography, stunning locales and De Niro doing his best impression of Marty Scorsese - what more could you want to ring in the New Year!?Wishing you and yours a Happy 2025!Support the show
