Hi Everyone, In this episode, I got to sit down with Ben10 Nguyen, a former top 8 UFC Flyweight and it was really cool to actually be able have Brian Ebersole sit in with us at the start to talk about this crazy moment that changed the trajectory of Ben's entire life. Ben also went viral for his fight against Julian Wallace and was featured on Lawrence Kenshin's Striking Breakdowns and it was cool to listen to his mindset going into that fight. In this episode we catch up with Strength & Conditioning Coach Holly Lohmeyer from Tiger Muay Thai. We talk about moving away from conditioned external and internal monologues about how we think we should look and the damaging affect it has on every woman out there. To creating more conversations on how we can change our perception of what health is based on the external. We get lost in believing changes on the outside will 'fix' our problems by reaching our 'outside goal' of how to look, but problems will still permeate because we haven't looked at what's happening inside. Functional Medicine Field: What You Will Learn: The principles Funk uses to help his clients achieve their fitness goals How Funk's fitness regimen aligns with the functional medicine field Why Funk's communication style can help FM providers better connect with their patients What practitioners can do to help their patients understand the clinical side of their treatment strategy How to work with patients to undercover their driving ‘why' for treatment How to help men better fulfill their role as patriarchs by improving their health Nutritional products that Funk recommends to men over forty who want to boost testosterone Shredded Over-Forty Funk Roberts is the owner of Funk Roberts Fitness Inc., the Over 40 Alpha Brotherhood, and Funk Supplements Inc. On top of being a successful serial entrepreneur in the functional medicine field, Funk is also a certified metabolic trainer and former professional volleyball player. Funk is the author of Rapid Body Makeover, and also has a new book coming soon called “Over-40 Shred.” In this episode of The FM Shift, Funk joins us to share his journey and talk about what we can do to help our patients see the big picture when it comes to treatment. In Layman's Terms Funk may not be a practitioner, but he employs many of the values and principles that we live by in the functional medicine field. He understands the clinical nature of functional medicine, but his main goal is to help men over forty get shredded. He has been successful in doing so by communicating complex medical information to average people so they can understand it and use it to their advantage. Clinicians have a lot to learn from the way Funk communicates with the male patient population, and they can apply the same tactics in their own practices. Connecting the Dots Through Funk's journey, he made it abundantly clear that practitioners in the functional medicine field have to take a different approach to address the issues facing men over forty. There has to be a connection between the topic of testosterone and the issues the patients are coming in with. That way, the patients can understand the potential treatment options in a way that is more important to them. A lot of practitioners are big proponents of testing. But Funk offers an entirely new way to take that clinical data and make it meaningful to the patients. I recently had Gerorge Hickman come across my radar. Hickman is a former fighter and now head coach of Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand. Hickman, an American, tried out for the team in 2014 and eventually worked his way into the head coaching role. What's noteworthy is some of the changes his leadership has brought both to the fighters he coaches as well to the team. It's also a reflection of the changing dynamics of team gyms in MMA, especially in Asia. In this interview, we discuss his background, how Brian Stann helped lead him to his current spot, getting Khalil Rountree ready for UFC Copenhagen, the changes seen at his gym and so much more.
