In 1983, Def Leppard emerged from the burgeoning British hard rock/metal landscape as, arguably, the biggest cats around. On the strength of mega hits (and fantastically "1980s-esque" videos) like "Photograph," Rock of Ages," "Foolin'" and "Too Late For Love," the boys from Sheffield were able to become MTV darlings while still leaning into the spike bracelets and fist-pumping ethos. Their third album, "Pyromania," was a break-out success. Their ascension hit a slight bump when drummer Rick Allen was significantly injured in a car accident (and thus lost an arm), but they would reach even greater heights with 1987's "Hysteria." But with '83's "Pyromania," Def Leppard was HOT. And who could forget this classic lyric:   Gunter gleiben glauchen globen

I was gonna try to make a pun using Def Leppard's "Too Late For Love" since the podcast is late, but honestly it has no connection to the situation. Maybe something like "Too late, too late, too late, too late to upload." I don't, it just doesn't work. But Pyromania is a BANGER of an album, and you should go listen to it.

In den News: Die OGAE Austria feiert 25 Jahre Grand Prix d'Autriche, wir werden darüber berichten.Das Eurovision-Jahr hat begonnen, ab 1. September können die Songs für den kommenden Song Contest auch veröffentlicht werden. Traditionell passiert das aber frühestens ab Ende Dezember.Der Junior Eurovision Song Contest findet am 29.11.2020 in Warschau statt, erstmals ist auch Deutschland dabei. Die 13-jährige Susan vertritt Deutschland mit dem Lied "Stronger With You". Viel Erfolg.Zu Gast vor unseren Mikrofonen sind Baccara, genauer Gründungsmitglied Maria Mendiola und ihre neue Partnerin Cristina Sevilla. Das Interview haben wir vor ihrem Auftritt beim Club-Treffen des OGAE Germany Ende Jänner 2020 aufgenommen.Baccara traten 1978 für Luxembourg an, das kleine Land war bekannt für guten Pop, aber nicht unbedingt für eine große Musikszene. So sind in erster Linie Acts von außerhalb der Landesgrenzen engagiert worden, die dann in der Landessprache (zumeist Französisch) singen mussten. Es fand in jenem Jahr ausnahmensweise ein Vorentscheid statt, den Baccara mit einigem Vorsprung für sich entscheiden konnten. Eine der vier anderen Acts war die dänische Sängerin Gitte Hænning, damals besser bekannt unter "Gitte".In Paris beim Song Contest 1978 erreichten Baccara mit "Parlez Vous Français" nur den 7. Platz, obwohl ihre Darbietung laut Kritikern makellos war. Maria führte das darauf zurück, dass Baccara, als spanisches Duo in Deutschland produziert wurde, auf französisch singen mussten und für Luxembourg antraten. Es war auch das erste mal, dass ein Millionseller auf der Höhe des Ruhms bei Eurovision antrat: María Mendiola und die andere Gründungspartnerin Mayte Mateos sind erst 1977 von einem deutschen Plattenmanager in einem Hotel-Nachtclub auf Fuerteventura entdeckt und nach Hamburg geflogen worden, ihre Debut-Single "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" ist die meistverkaufteste Single einer reinen Frauen-Formation und war Nr. 1 in zahllosen europäischen Ländern. Auch die Nachfolge-Single "Sorry, I'm a Lady" war ein Riesenerfolg. "Parlez Vous Français" punktete nicht bei Eurovision, kommerziell verkaufte sich die Single aber gut. Einige weitere große Hits folgten, unter anderem "Darling", das Lieblingslied der beiden, und "The Devil Sent You to Laredo".Nach der Trennung des Duos 1981 machten sowohl Maria als auch Mayte mit jeweils neuen Partnerinnen als Baccara weiter, Mayte eher in Spanien, Maria auch in Deutschland und in Osteuropa. Mayte's Baccara versuchten 2004 Schweden beim Song Contest zu vertreten. Ihr "Soy Tu Venus" schaffte es aber nicht ins Finale vom Melodifestivalen.Unsere drei Fragen am Schluss beantworteten die beiden wie folgt:Maria liebte 2019 den schwedischen Beitrag: John Lundvik mit "Too Late For Love". Cristina den aus Tschechien: die Band Lake Malawi mit "Friend Of A Friend".Die beste Anekdote vom Song Contest 1978 war für Maria die Tatsache, dass die Plattenfirma dem Duo neue Kleider spendiert. Aber nicht irgendwelche, sondern Modelle von Christian Dior. Chefdesigner des Hauses Dior war Marc Bohan, einer der prägensten Designer der 70er. Er schaute sich das Duo an und gab grünes Licht, dass sich die beiden ein Modell aussuchen konnten, dass ihnen dann in schwarz und weiß zum Song Contest geliefert worden ist.Die Lieblings-Eurovision-Songs aller Zeiten der Beiden sind:Cristina liebt Conchitas "Rise Like A Phoenix" und Maria Loreens "Euphoria". In der kleinen Geschichte am Schluss erzählt Alkis vom ersten Teilnehmer, der nach dem aktuellen Punktesstem 1978 mit 0 Punkten nach Hause fahren musste. Dem Norweger Jahn Teigen schadete das Ergebnis aber nicht. Im Gegenteil: Sein Song "Mil Etter Mil" kletterte in seiner Heimat darauf hin auf Platz 1 und er nahm noch zwei weitere Male am Song Contest teil. Teigen starb mit nur 70 Jahren im Februar 2020.

Alkis und Marco treffen Getty Kaspers. Die in Weiz in der Steiermark geborene Sängerin gewann mit der Gruppe Teach-In und dem Song "Ding-A-Dong" den Eurovision Song Contest 1975. Es war dies der letzte niederländische Sieg vor Duncan Laurence 2019. Aber zuerst gibt es einmal eine entgeltliche Einschaltung unseres Partners Mazda. Getty Kaspers erzählt, wie sie in den Wirren der Nachkriegszeit als Tochter einer niederländischen Mutter in der Steiermark geboren ist und von ihrer Jugend in Weiz. Und sie erzählt, wie sie in die Niederlande gekommen ist, ohne auch ein Wort Niederländisch zu sprechen. Sie begann ihre eine Karriere als Sängerin in Coverbands und aus einer davon wurde Teach-In, die mit eigenen Titeln einige Hits in Holland landen konnten. Zwei davon waren "In The Summernight" und "Fly Away". Und so wurden sie vom Niederländischen Rundfunk gebeten, am Vorentscheid teil zu nehmen. Einer ihrer Konkurrenten war übrigens auch der hierzulande nicht ganz unbekannte Albert West, dessen "Ginny Come Lately" ein Megahit war. Die Playlist des kompletten Vorentscheids inklusive einiger sehr unterschiedlicher Versionen von Ding-A-Dong auf Niederländisch gibt es auf Youtube. In Stockholm gewannen Teach-In 1975 mit der englischen Fassung von "Ding-A-Dong" mit knappem Vorsprung vor den britischen Teilnehmern, der renomierten Band "The Shadows". Nach dem Sieg folgten intensive Tourneen quer durch Europa und schlussendlich ein erschöpfungsbedingter Abschluss der Zusammenarbeit mit Teach-In. Getty Kaspers versuchte dann eine Solokarriere als Getty. Mit "Love Me" und "Mademoiselle" konnte Getty noch einen Achtungserfolg erzielen, das Soloalbum aus dem Jahr 1982 allerdings war nicht sehr erfolgreich. Unsere Standardfragen beantwortete Getty wie folgt: Ihr absoluter Lieblingssong in der Geschichte des Song Contests ist das Siegerlied aus dem Jahr 1964: Gigliola Cinquetti mit "No ho l'età" Und ihr Lieblingstitel aus dem aktuellen Jahrgang ist der vom Schweden John Lundvik geschriebene und interpretierte Titel "Too Late For Love". In der kleinen Song Contest Geschichte am Schluss erzählt Marco von den Veränderungen der niederländischen Gesellschaft rund um das Jahr 1975.
