Happy Bottled in Bond Day! Yes, it's another whiskey episode, for a variety of reasons, and there's a chunk of beer as well, so it's kind of a boilermaker episode, if you will. I got hold of Al Laws, the founder and owner of the Laws Whiskey House in Denver. I told you about visiting there back in October of 2023 (in Episode 25+), but I didn't get to meet Al. Last week, their publicist reached out to me about March 3rd being Bottled in Bond Day, the anniversary of the signing of the federal Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. I love bonded whiskey, so I decided to do an episode on it and share that love. Al and I talk about using Colorado-grown grain to make a very grain-focused whiskey, more about high-altitude whiskey making, what wheat brings to whiskey, and yes, we did talk about bottled in bond whiskey. Then I had a rare opportunity to sample five Baltic Porters side-by-side with two brewers (both of whom have appeared on Seen Through A Glass before). I'll tell you how that happened, and you can listen in as we discuss the similarities and differences. What Was I Drinking Today? Bottle in Bond whiskey, of course: New Riff Balboa Rye, and what a beauty it was. The Happy Valley Adventure Board spot was about the upcoming Maple Festival at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center on March 22-23. Next episode: again, not 100% sure. I've got some feelers out, but... anyone want to do an interview? Cheers! Interview with Lon Shaver, President of Silvercorp Metals Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/silvercorp-metals-tsxsvm-expanding-to-gold-copper-horizons-with-strategic-ecuador-acquisition-5973Recording date: 27th of February, 2025Silvercorp Metals, a profitable silver producer with established operations in China, is strategically diversifying into Ecuador to create a multi-jurisdictional mining platform. The company's President, Lon Shaver, recently outlined this growth strategy aimed at reducing the valuation discount typically applied to single-jurisdiction companies.Central to this expansion is the development of the EL DOMO mine in Ecuador, a fully permitted project with production targeted for the second half of 2026. With a capex of approximately $250 million, EL DOMO will be funded through a $175 million stream from Wheaton Precious Metals and Silvercorp's existing cash reserves of around $200 million. The project boasts a 10-year mine life with projected annual production of 11,000 tons of copper, 26,000 ounces of gold, 12,000 tons of zinc, and 490,000 ounces of silver, with an all-in sustaining cost of $1.26 per pound on a copper equivalent basis.Silvercorp sees significant operational synergies between EL DOMO and its Chinese operations, despite geological differences. "The tonnage and the throughput through the mill is very similar to the tonnage expansion that we just completed at Ying," notes Shaver, highlighting that both operations use similar flotation mill technologies to produce concentrates. The company is also reimagining the Condor project in Ecuador, shifting from the previous owners' concept of a large open-pit operation requiring $600 million in capital to a more discrete, high-grade underground operation. This approach aligns with Silvercorp's successful development strategy in China, focusing on incremental growth funded by operational cash flow. While expanding internationally, Silvercorp continues to strengthen its Chinese operations, recently increasing production capacity at its Ying mine from 2,500 to 4,000 tons per day. The company has also accumulated substantial ore stockpiles (145,000 tons), positioning it for continued strong performance even during traditionally slower periods.Shaver expressed optimism about metals markets, noting, "Our view for commodity prices is positive whether that be silver or others, just because of the fact that we see the economies continuing to grow, and there's not a lot of supply that we see coming on of the market."Near-term catalysts include completing the remaining two bid packages for EL DOMO construction, which will provide more concrete guidance on budget and timing for the project as Silvercorp works to build a diversified precious metals portfolio with a disciplined approach to growth and shareholder value.Learn more: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/silvercorp-metalsSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Navigating Attachment, Fear, and Connection in a Divided World In this episode of the Human Intimacy Podcast, Dr. Kevin Skinner is joined by Michelle Mays, author of The Betrayal Bind, to discuss the impact of betrayal trauma on attachment and how attachment plays a broader role in our relationships and society. Michelle shares insights from her experience as a licensed professional counselor and creator of the Attachment-Focused Partner Betrayal Model. The conversation delves into how fear affects our attachment systems, particularly in personal relationships and at a societal level. They explore how political and cultural divides create a sense of disconnection and anxiety, mirroring the dynamics seen in betrayal trauma. Michelle and Dr. Skinner discuss the importance of slowing down, recognizing fear-based responses, and fostering connection instead of falling into fight-or-flight behaviors. The discussion also highlights how betrayed partners often experience disorganized attachment, where their primary source of safety becomes a source of danger. Michelle explains how healing involves moving from disorganization back to secure attachment, both with oneself and with others. The episode concludes with practical strategies for overcoming fear-driven disconnection and promoting deeper, more meaningful relationships. Michelle also previews her upcoming talk at the Human Intimacy Conference*, where she will dive deeper into how attachment influences betrayal recovery and relationship repair. Resources Discussed in This Episode: 1. Books & Authors: - The Betrayal Bind by Michelle Mays - Rebuilding Your Relationship After Sexual Betrayal by Dr. Kevin Skinner - Willpower by Roy Baumeister - Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport - Intimate Interactions (referenced in discussion) 2. Upcoming Event: - The Human Intimacy Conference (March 14-15, 2025) - Featuring Michelle Mays and other leading experts - Early registration discount code: **50OFF** for $50 off This episode challenges listeners to examine their own attachment patterns, reflect on their fear responses, and foster deeper connections in a world that often promotes disconnection.
Hello, how is everyone doing? Great to hear! This week, I am joined by researcher, writer and filmmaker, Dean Bertram. Dean is currently in production on an incredible documentary (I've seen some segments and they are fantastic!) about the life of Richard Shaver. Shaver, while sometimes forgotten in the sea of UFO experiencers of the Twentieth Century, had one of the most unique narratives going. While folks were looking up, Shaver was looking down. Dean was kind enough to share his knowledge about Shaver's life and times, but also, we delve deep into the Maury Island incident, Ray Palmer, his own high strange experience, and more. This was a real treat for me. Dean has a great head on his shoulders, and has wonderful knack of fusing art and Forteanna that I love so much. Love, Steve. Laurie and Micheal Shaver have been together since they were 12 years old. They met in 7th grade in their small town in New York and remained in love ever since. The couple ended up getting married in their early 20s and even went on to have 2 kids together. But after 24 years of being together, fights became more frequent and they no longer saw eye to eye. Both were curious about what the world had to offer so they decided to split. And even though they were split and Laurie had moved on with another man, when she found out about Micheal's new relationship she freaked out. She began harassing them and their workplace and Laurie felt that if she couldn't have Micheal, then no one could. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gene and Chris present a rare interview with Raymond B. Palmer, the son of legendary UFO and occult researcher Raymond A. Palmer, the co-founder of "Fate" magazine and one of the early promoters of flying saucer research. Raymond A. also introduced the world to the Shaver mystery, about a man who claimed to have been in touch with advanced beings from beneath the Earth. To some, Raymond A. was regarded as the "father" of the UFO field. Also joining us with his own perspectives is veteran UFO researcher Tim "Mr. UFO" Beckley. Sadly Chris and Tim are no longer with us.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-paracast-the-gold-standard-of-paranormal-radio--6203433/support.
Gene and cohost Tim Swartz introduce a tale about a truly weird character who hung out on the fringes of UFO research with Bryan Shickley. An animator and storyteller, is best known for Fred Crisman: Cave of the Space Nazis, a short film inspired by fan letters sent to Amazing Stories in the 1940s, during the height of the Shaver Mystery. He has interviewed the family of controversial UFO figure Fred Crisman and collaborated with Pacific Northwest historians to adapt Crisman and Shaver's extraordinary lives into an upcoming tongue-in-cheek serialized audio drama. Crisman's life had many curious aspects. He was a key figure in the 1947 Maury Island UFO Sighting, where alleged fragments fell from a UFO. Or maybe they were just conventional pieces of metal. The story was the main focus of a book published in 1952, "The Coming of the Saucers," authored by former Amazing Stories editor Ray Palmer, and the "original" flying saucer witness, Kenneth Arnold. And did Crisman have any connections to the legends that surround the John F. Kennedy assassination? Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we go so far down the rabbit hole that we encounter the mutated denizens of a lost race descended from Atlantean giants because this week we're exploring the science-fiction world of Richard Sharp Shaver who, of all things, claimed these stories were none other than historical fact! Published in Amazing Stories Magazine in the 1940s with the help of editor Robert Palmer the Shaver Mystery took the world by storm and laid the foundation for UFOlogy and conspiracy culture that endures today. In the first half of the show we discuss Richard Shaver's theophany of the lusty swamp witch, Nydia and how he came to know firsthand the denizens of the underworld. We also take a look at the ancient space language, a galactic commons of sorts that Shaver introduced to us and begin exploring the colorful details as they are described in his first published story “I Remember Lemuria.” In the extended episode we go further down the Shaver Rabbit Hole (that sounds pornographic somehow) and get into the vast menagerie of human alien animal hybrids that our ancient alien overlords created in their laboratories and populate the many worlds in space. We discuss the radioactive influence of the sun, megalithic monuments that still exist today and the origin of the devilish Dero who control the human elite from their high-tech machines far below the Earth's surface. Ep. 65 To mark the four-year anniversary of the podcast, I'm revisiting earlier episodes with content and issues that remain relevant today. This episode is about the impact of a deadly force encounter on the officer, something that is rarely discussed. I review the powerful documentary “Officer Involved” with the filmmaker Patrick Shaver, a former police officer. Over several years Patrick interviewed law enforcement from around the country about their incident and emotional toll it took on them. He also interviewed mental health experts who have researched and written about the subject. We are all sensitive to the tragedy surrounding deadly use of force on those lost and their loved ones. This film and Patrick's interview are important elements to understanding the whole story. As Patrick says in the interview, there are two sides to the gun and both people are forever changed. My goal is to help us all better understand what the job really is and show the complexity of what it means to be a police officer. Also in this interview, Patrick and I talk about his film DINKHELLER. It's about Deputy Kyle Dinkheller who was tragically killed in GA in 1998 during a traffic stop gone horribly wrong. Many of you know of his incident.Patrick Shaver has done multiple documentaries showing the human side of law enforcement. You can find out more about him and his work at his website. Patrick funds his work through the proceeds of DVD and streaming sales of his films: http://www.officerinvolvedproject.com/filmsThanks for listening to On Being a Police Officer. "Unveiling MK-Ultra: Joe Rogan's Rare Deep Dive into the CIA's Mind Control Experiments"Prepare to unravel the chilling truths behind one of the CIA's most secretive and controversial programs: MKUltra. In this rare and riveting episode, Joe Rogan and a top-tier investigator peel back the layers of conspiracy, control, and corruption that defined this covert operation. From its origins as "Bluebird" to its evolution into a mind-bending experiment on unwitting citizens, MKUltra sought to engineer assassins, erase memories, and reshape human behavior without consent. Discover how a network of safe houses, rogue scientists like Dr. Louis "Jolly" West, and chilling connections to figures like Charles Manson created a blueprint for psychological manipulation. This episode dives deep into never-before-heard details, including the mysterious Jimmy Shaver case, the controversial Operation Midnight Climax, and how these experiments sought to control minds in ways that remain shocking today. Featuring firsthand insights, hidden correspondence, and investigative discoveries, this podcast challenges what we think we know about MKUltra. Whether you're a history buff, a conspiracy enthusiast, or someone seeking to uncover hidden truths, this is an episode you can't afford to miss. Tune in and join the conversation—this story is far more than a conspiracy; it's a revelation.Origins of MKUltra (00:00–00:39)MKUltra started as "Bluebird" in 1948, became "Artichoke," and eventually evolved into MKUltra in 1952.It was a CIA mind control program aimed at manipulating human behavior without their knowledge. Objectives of MKUltra (00:39–01:18)The program sought to create "hypnoprogrammed assassins," popularly termed "Manchurian candidates," who could commit acts like murder without memory of their programming.Other goals included training couriers to deliver messages with no memory of their missions.Exposure of MKUltra (01:51–02:26)MKUltra's existence came to light through hearings in the 1970s (Rockefeller Commission, Church Hearings).CIA officials Richard Helms and Dr. Sidney Gottlieb destroyed most records in 1973.Safe Houses and Experiments (02:26–03:04)Experiments took place in "safe houses" disguised as brothels or communes, where unsuspecting people were dosed with drugs like LSD.Dr. Louis "Jolly" West, a key researcher, conducted covert experiments.Connections to Charles Manson (03:44–04:46)Dr. West operated in the same area and time as Charles Manson's rise.
