The angry debate over replacing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg ran late into the night. Democrats are using every tool they have to slow down a Republican march to confirm President Trump's future nominee. This morning's ceremony for Justice Ginsburg began a three-day formal farewell in Washington. The House of Representatives held a moment of silence yesterday to acknowledge a painful milestone, that more than 200,000 people in the U.S. have died from coronavirus. At a campaign rally in Pittsburgh last night, President Trump defended his response to the pandemic, and mocked the precaution used by tens of millions of Americans, including his Democratic opponent. Tropical Storm Beta could slam Louisiana and Mississippi with severe floods later today, after the storm dumped 14 inches of rain in Houston. Kentucky's attorney general could announce as soon as today whether a grand jury called for criminal charges in the Breonna Taylor case. This morning, buildings in downtown Louisville are boarded up in case of protests, and the city has declared a state of emergency.

However, persistent worries about fuel demand as coronavirus cases continue to flare up around the globe remain a drag. U.S. crude futures traded 0.1% lower at $39.51 a barrel, while the international benchmark Brent contract fell 0.1% to $41.41. Both oil benchmarks fell around 4% on Monday. Major Hurricane Teddy with 125 mph continues northwest. Tropical Storm Watch is posted for Bermuda, and after Bermuda it heads to Nova Scotia on Tuesday. Three tropical storms were named today. Wilfred is in the far Eastern Atlantic and no threat to land. We ran out of names and now we use the Greek alphabet. Subtropcial Storm Alpha is probably the most unusual storm as it was named while it moved inland over Portugal. Tropical systems moving into Europe are rare. We also have Medicane Lanos that made landfal along the coast of Greece in the Mediterranean Sea. This is another rare occurrence. Finally we have Tropical Storm Beta in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico and it will be a risk to the Texas coast early next week possibly as a hurricane. All of this and somehow the Northeast and Mid Atlantic states are going to enjoy early autumn weather for the last weekend of the summer season. We will also take a look at the long range as the pattern will likely change late month and into October.
