Aber das ist nur eine von vielen Ebenen dieses Films. DAS LICHT gibt uns so lange Farbsteine, bis wir Stück für Stück ein Muster darin erkennen können.Tykwer mischt dabei mit bewundernswerter Sorglosigkeit einen Berliner Arthouse-Film mit Hollywoodreifen Szenen, lässt die Menschen auf der Straße tanzen und vor dem Licht einer Frau halluzinieren, die aus Syrien zu uns geflohen ist. Tragödie, Komödie, Familiendrama, magischer Realismus, ich wette, Tom Tykwer ist es völlig gleich, in welche Schublade sein Film gesteckt wird. Es ist großes Kino, das steht fest (auch großes Schauspielerkino), das mit wenig Klischees und ganz ohne moralisch erhobenen Zeigefinger daherkommt. Direkt nach dem Kino waren wir sehr begeistert und mussten erst einmal die Bilder und die Gefühle sortieren – am Mikrofon: Anke, Katharina, Marc, Hendrik und Thomas.

Franka Potente never became a bonafide movie star after Run Lola Run, but her intensely iconic work in this breakout movie remains awesome 25 years later. Tom Tykwer has had a solid career of his own since writing and directing this video-game-esque flick with the butterfly-effect gimmick. He and future collaborators the Wachowskis were making some of the coolest movies around back then, taking advantage of new technologies, narrative devices and editing techniques. In truth, while Tykwer clearly loves Potente, he doesn't do so right by Moritz Bleibtreu's Manni (and the first part of the man's last name rhymes with "tribe" by the way, not "leeb"). Bleibtreu is a whiny screw-up who needs his dedicated girlfriend to save his life by racing around Germany for 20 minutes to come up with a small fortune. Lather, rinse, repeat. Run Lola Run only technically meets the criteria of our podcast, but no discussion of the revolutionary, groundbreaking films of 1999 could really be complete without it. Because while it was released in 1998 in its native Germany, its US theatrical release came in June 18, 1999. Starring Franke Potente and Moritz Bleibtreu, Run Lola Run was the breakout feature from writer-director-composer Tom Tykwer. The style and themes of the film share a lot in common with the first film we covered on the podcast and one of your favorites, The Matrix. Beyond just the superficial, like a telephone serving as the catalyst for the plot, both films borrow as much from the kinetic pace and jump-cut editing of music videos of the era as they do from the styles and techniques of traditional filmmaking. Not surprisingly, then, Tykwer, used Run Lola Run as a springboard for much more mainstream (if still pretty avant-garde) success with his collaborations with Wachowskis in films like Cloud Atlas and the Netflix Series Sense8, as well as serving, again with Klimek, as composer for Lana Wachowski's The Matrix Resurrections. Det är en nostalgisk tillbakablick på 60- och 70-talets barn-tv: Fablernas Värld, Anita och Televinken och Den vista stenen. Kinos Nina Asarnoj träffade Göran Everdahl för att prata om minnen, barndom och tv-trauman. Den tyske regissören Tom Tykwer fick sitt genombrott med Spring Lola 1998. Men är valet av Gnarr som borgmästare en anarkistisk protest, ett roligt skämt eller bara riktigt bra idé. Sofia Thermaenius har sett filmen Gnarr och träffat borgmästaren med samma namn på hans kontor i Reykjaviks Rådhus för att ta reda på sanningen bakom skämten.
