BBC推荐2021年豆瓣高分电影|2021 Douban High Score Movies Recommended by BBCDune《沙丘》 Now at last we have a big-screen Dune that may actually do justice to Frank Herbert's science-fiction novel. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, this is a somber, sweeping epic which runs for 155 minutes and still only covers the first half of the book. The budget is colossal, the crew is top-notch, and the cast is packed with big names, including Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Zendaya and Dave Bautista. As space operas about psychic-powered young heroes on desert planets go, it may never be as popular as Star Wars, but, says Clarisse Loughrey in the Independent, "It is a film of such literal and emotional largeness that it overwhelms the senses of such intimidating grandeur that it's hard to believe it even exists in the first place." The French Dispatch《法兰西特派》 Wes Anderson fans rejoice: the writer-director's 10th film is his most Wes Anderson-ish ever. In The French Dispatch, he takes his meticulous style to new extremes, so barely a frame goes by that isn't ornamented with a split screen, a freeze frame, a sans serif caption, a florid voiceover, or a switch between monochrome and garish color. Beneath all these elaborate quirks is an anthology of three whimsical short stories set in the fictional French town and supposedly drawn from the pages of a New Yorker-style magazine in the mid-20th Century. Ron's Gone Wrong《天赐灵机》 The first feature-length cartoon from a new British studio, Locksmith Animation, Ron's Gone Wrong is a family comedy about the differences between social media and physical interaction. Its schoolboy hero, Barney, is given what seems to be the ideal toy, a shiny robot which is programmed to be his friend – assuming it works properly. The snag is that this particular robot, Ron, barely works at all. "Children want someone who agrees with them, who wants to play the same games as them… and that's the type of dream the technology world offers you," the film's co-writer and co-director, Sarah Smith, said. "And in our movie, Barney ends up with Ron, who's completely dysfunctional and broken, who doesn't agree with him and doesn't know anything about him, and they have to build this relationship from that point."《天赐灵机》是英国新动画工作室Locksmith出品的第一部动画长片,这部家庭喜剧片讲述了社交媒体和实体互动之间的差异。 Minari《米纳里》Lee Isaac Chung's autobiographical drama has had glowing reviews, but it has also been the source of controversy. Most of the dialogue is in Korean, so the organizers of the Golden Globes put it in the Foreign Language Film category. But Minari is also the tale of a US family working on a small farm in Arkansas in the 1980s, so some commentators have argued that calling its language "foreign" is outdated and insulting. Glenn Whipp in the Los Angeles Times says that the film "feels like a balm right now, a gentle, truthful and tender story of family filled with kind people trying to love one another the best they can. The Courier《信使》Benedict Cumberbatch has been tipped as a potential James Bond, but in The Courier, he plays one of Bond's less glamorous real-life counterparts. In 1960, just before Sean Connery signed up to be 007, a salesman named Greville Wynne was recruited by MI6 and the CIA to carry Soviet secrets back from Moscow. In the film, his wife wants him to abandon this increasingly dangerous mission, but Wynne believes that only his espionage can defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis. Directed by Dominic Cooke, The Courier has a "fascinating" story, says Benjamin Lee at the Guardian, but it is Cumberbatch's performance that sells it. colossal英 [kəˈlɒsl];美[kəˈlɑːsl] adj.

We had the incredible pleasure of sitting down with Sonia Nassery Cole, an Afghan American author, filmmaker, humanitarian, and activist who founded the Afghanistan World Foundation and directed film, “I AM YOU” (2019). “I AM YOU” is an independent feature film based on the stories of the world’s many refugees, their love for people and life, and the conditions that precipitated their extraordinarily heroic journeys. We get the chance to hear Sonia laugh and cry as she reflects upon the pivotal experiences that have put her on the path to touch so many lives through her activism and creative works. We move on to the childhood experiences that shaped who she is and the absolutely necessary traits to have as a filmmaker. Sonia also shares with us how she manages to pull out the most excellent emotional performances from her actors, and the KEY difference between an Oscar-winning performance and a failure. Next, we get into Sonia's incredible story of writing a nine-page letter to President Ronald Reagan at just 17 years old and the world-changing events that followed. Finally, we talk about her experience and challenges, especially as a woman, directing and filming in the war-zone of Afghanistan as well as what the film is about. Memorable QuotesMaking a good film"I want to make films about something I know about. I don't think people should make films or tell stories or write books about something they don't know. You have to know, what is your passion? What excites you? What makes you cry? What makes you feel? If I feel all those things, I promise you, I'm going to make you feel it.""The camera is a very sensitive instrument. You don't have to say a word. I look at your eyes through my lens and I can tell if you're lying to me or if you're really feeling something, and that's what makes the difference between a good movie and a bad movie - an Oscar-winning performance or a failure." Resources & LinksYou can see more of Baktash Ahadi's work here.Follow Baktash Ahadi on Instagram here.Keep updated on the latest episodes of "Stories of Transformation” here. Want to connect with Sonia? The Force Fed Sci-Fi Movie Podcast

This time, Force Fed Sci-Fi welcomes its first guest, Brian McLeod, to take a look at Robocop! During our review, we discuss how the character of Robocop himself actually accomplishes little to no police work, could technology offer a solution to areas infested with crime, and is Robocop worthy to get a statue in Detroit? Let's dig in….. Robocop (Original) Cast Directed by Paul Verhoeven: Born in the Netherlands, Verhoeven had a solid reputation as a filmmaker prior to taking on Robocop. His early collaborations with Rutger Hauer earned him worldwide fame and even earned an Academy Award nomination for Foreign Language Film in 1974. Robocop was Verhoeven's first major Hollywood film and was able to blend many complex themes together to create an entertaining and memorable story. Starring Peter Weller as Alex Murphy/Robocop: Prior to his casting, Weller was relatively unknown, but starred in the cult hit The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension in 1984. He was not the first choice for Murphy as Rutger Hauer and Michael Ironside were considered, but their large frames would not fit into the Robocop costume. Weller has since gone to have a respectable career appearing in films and television and has earned his Master's Degree in Roman and Renaissance Art as well as a PhD in Italian Renaissance Art History. Nancy Allen as Anne Lewis: While she does not have a ton of memorable credits to her name, she remained a consistent presence in the Robocop films and would go on to appear in this film's sequel as well as the third film even after Peter Weller left the franchise. It's unclear exactly of her feelings towards Murphy whether it's professional or romantic, but she offers a unique morality to the film as no one comes out smelling like roses at the end. Kurtwood Smith as Clarence Boddicker: Before he was known as Red Forman on That 70's Show, Smith turned in a rather convincing performance as this drug kingpin. Boddicker clearly has a bevy of mental issues including narcissism and megalomania and has a near total disregard for human life. Everyone around him is either a means to an end or they're just a target. The filmmakers have commented that making Boddicker an intellectual was intentional even down to the rimless glasses he wore as it made Smith look like infamous Nazi officer Heinrich Himmler Is Robocop a Good Cop? Any police officer will tell you that most of what is seen on television and film is dramatized. Most of the job is filling out paperwork as every stop and movement must be documented and cataloged. Robocop seems to not be familiar with these procedures. First, he just leaves his precinct without informing the Desk Sergeant where he's going or what area he plans to patrol. Second, he engages in both breaking up a convenience store lobby and an attempted sexual assault without returning to the precinct to fill out any sort of paperwork or arrest log. In addition, we don't even see him arrest anybody! One of our show's hosts, Chris, is pretty sure that the convenience store robber was also just left dead in the freezer as Robocop drops a cool one-liner and exits the store. Finally, Robocop has a clear disregard for due process. After he interrogates one of Boddicker's henchman, he breaks into a warehouse without obtaining a warrant and begins shooting up the joint. Not only would any normal cop be removed from patrol duty after a shooting, they would be assigned to attend some type of counseling to gauge how they feel after potentially taking a life. However, since Robocop isn't technically human, he has no need for this type of post shooting procedure. Behind the Scenes You might be surprised to learn that the original Robocop script was actually written with the violence in mind as the producers went through several choices for the director's chair before choosing Verhoeven. Several prospective choices wanted to tone down the violence and even Verhoeven was reluctant to t...

Welcome back to Double Feature, the IDS film podcast where the powers that be let us in a podcast booth to give you hot takes and maybe some lukewarm ones, too. Now that the dust has settled after the 91st Annual Academy Awards, this cursed Oscars season is officially over, with some mixed results. On this week's episode of Double Feature, hosts Annie Aguiar and Chris Forrester discuss the highs and lows of Oscars night. The most awarded film of the night was "Bohemian Rhapsody," with four wins, and the Best Picture award went to "Green Book" — two movies that have received criticism for both their messaging and the people behind the camera. Olivia Colman won Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Queen Anne in "The Favourite," a surprising upset over Glenn Close's performance in "The Wife." Mexican writer and director Alfonso Cuarón won three Oscars for his film "Roma": Best Director, Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography.

Our initial reactions to the 2019 Oscar nominations were a mixed bag. There was plenty to be hopeful about, but equally as much to be worried about with this year's nominations. Why didn't 'If Beale Street Could Talk' get much love from the Academy? What does Bradley Cooper's director snub mean for 'A Star Is Born' and its Best Picture odds? Did they forget that Justin Hurwitz exists after his work on La La Land? But, at least they pulled it together for Yalitza Aparicio! We discuss all of this, Best Picture chances, and more in this episode!Timestamps - (01:08) Picture (07:14) Director (14:15) Actress (16:58) Actor (20:10) Supporting Actress (23:08) Supporting Actor (26:50) Adapted Screenplay (29:14) Original Screenplay (31:29) Cinematography (35:07) Costume Design (38:04) Film Editing (41:24) Foreign Language Film (44:33) Makeup and Hairstyling (46:20) Production Design (48:48) Score (54:07) Original Song (57:14) Sound Editing (59:23) Sound Mixing (1:02:28) Visual Effects (1:06:21) Animated Feature (1:11:20) Documentary Feature (1:14:33) Animated Short (1:16:25) Documentary Short (1:21:09) Overall Recap and Best Picture Odds Discussion

Here it is. The FINAL Oscar nominations predictions podcast and, as usual, it's a big one.  I am joined by Next Best Picture's Will Mavity for this 71st Oscar Podcast and we dig in on how wild this season has been so far, with films being hit with controversy, the continuing chasm between critics and audiences and where we think the Academy is going to lean as a result. Predictions start off with Visual Effects and build up through the techs into the top 8 of Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and finally Best Picture. Regrettably, we didn't hit Animated Feature, Documentary Feature or Foreign Language Film but you can find those predictions at each of our respective sites. We spent time on the hows and whys of films like A Star Is Born, Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody hitting the guilds and audiences whereas If Beale Street Could Talk not finding that same love. We also ask: will First Man become the most nominated film in the expansion era to not hit Best Picture? Can Barry Jenkins be a lone director nominee a la Bennett Miller? These details, utilizing guild nominations, box office, branch history and more help guide us through our predictions, with both Will and I making changes on the fly during our conversation.  This podcast runs 2h 23m with opening and closing music.  Closing music: "New York City By Day" by Thomas Newman from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack of Desperately Seeking Susan.

The over-riding message from this year’s Academy Awards? “We’ve Learned Our Lesson!” Responding to the #MeToo movement and reports of erotic exploitation and sexism, presenters and Oscar winners frequently alluded to the scandal and made sanctimonious pledges to crack down on wrong-doers. After complaints in recent years about scant Oscar attention to people of color, numerous black and Hispanic celebrities appeared on stage and Latinos won some of the most important Oscars—including Best Picture, Best Director, and best Foreign Language Film. And after last year’s epic snafu with Warren Beatty announcing the wrong Best Picture winner, this year he received the right envelope. Despite such improvements, a long predictable ceremony, with no blockbusters in serious contention, yielded some of the lowest TV ratings in Academy history. Have the lessons really been learned? Time will tell.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's also an incredibly diverse list, with 2 films from Africa, 1 film from Latin America, 2 films with LGBT stories, and 1 film with a female director! With two of the three major guilds (PGA and SAG) having announced their winners, Gold Rush Gang member Júlia and I break down what the winners mean in terms of the Oscar race. From the surprise wins for Hidden Figures and Denzel Washington (Fences) at the Screen Actors Guild to La La Land's march to an easy win at PGA, there's actually a lot to talk about. We start with the PGA and its correlation to Oscar's Best Picture and where we now see Hidden Figures in that race. Then it's on to Supporting Actor where we wax poetic on Mahershala Ali's speech (lots of swooning here) and Viola Davis (Fences) as she steamrolls through the season and her competition. Best Actress is next, where Emma Stone (La La Land) stands alone as the frontrunner but who is next - Portman or Huppert? I detail why Portman might not be the #2 people think she is and why I think she lost. Next is Best Actor, which threw us a big left turn. Is Denzel Washington the new frontrunner or was he all along? Finally, we talk at length about the win for Hidden Figures for SAG's top award. Join us for a conversation with filmmaker Afia Nathaniel, whose feature film, "Dukhtar" was Pakistan’s official submission for Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards®. In a village in Pakistan, a young mother Allah Rakhi (Samiya Mumtaz) kidnaps her ten-year-old daughter Zainab (Saleha Aref) to save her from a child marriage to a tribal leader. Their daring escape triggers a deadly hunt for them. With the pursuers close behind, the mother strikes an unlikely deal with Sohail (Mohib Mirza) a cynical ex-Mujahid truck driver to take them to Lahore. In this week's Movie Date podcast, Rafer and Kristen recount their encounters with wildlife in the city and ponder the ways that dance-offs are better than shoot-outs. It's all in honor of the animated feature, "The Nut Job," the buddy cop comedy, "Ride Along," and the spy thriller, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." Rafer and Kristen also weigh in on the Oscar nominations, which were announced this Thursday. "Run Lola Run" came out during a period when lots of unique and truly fantastic films were opening up in theaters. Luckily for Lola, it was equally unique and fantastic, ensuring that it didn't get buried. Tom Tykwer's wild film, so thoroughly infused with energy and style, took a simple tale of a woman trying to (quickly) raise money for her boyfriend to ensure he doesn't get killed by the gangsters for which he works, and gave it a philosophical bent when he decided to write it in almost a video game style where we see the same situation play out three times. It's an absolutely fascinating film to watch and a very easy film to enjoy. Join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we continue our Foreign Language Film series with this thrill of a film. We discuss the nature of the film itself and the almost avant garde dreamscape nature of it, exploring what it was Tykwer was trying to say by making the film this way. We chat about what works for us and what doesn't, and look at one sequence in particular that ended up feeling more problematic than it has in the past. We talk about the performances, notably Franke Potente and Moritz Bleibtreu, and why they work so well for us. And we chat about the style, particularly the cinematography and editing, and how they help the film achieve this level of energy not often maintained as well in other films. We both love this film, despite some problems, and have a great time talking about it. Tune in! Hey! You know what would be awesome? If you would drop us a positive rating on iTunes! If you like what we're doing here on TNR, it really is the best way to make sure that this show appears when others search for it, plus, it's just a nice thing to do. Thanks!!
