It may seem like there is more bad news than good news where Husker athletics are concerned. The Husker Black Shorts are the number 2 seed but against Penn State the girls didn't look as crisp. Merritt Beason hit .091 as the team limped to a .154 attack percentage. But it was fallout from the vitriol of some “fans” and haters alike on social media that drew equal headlines. Beth will be here tonight to walk us through the match that got away and Saturday's win against Maryland which helped clinch a share of the Big Ten title for the Husker women. Monday brought a host of changes to Nebraska Football as both coaching staff and players have declared their intent to leave for perceived greener pastures. Tony White is headed to Florida State to take the same job he is leaving behind in Lincoln, and it appears Terrance Knighton is going with him. And a few players have already declared their intent to enter the transfer portal, as Gabe Ervin Jr, Vincent Jackson, and Jimari Butler are saying goodbye to Lincoln. Tonight, Jon and Minnie will talk about the departures and one very important retention, Dana Holgorsen.

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.golongtd.comThe underbelly of this league is often gruesome. Sadly, the NFL itself chooses to ignore that underbelly. That's why Ryan Leaf has become so valuable to droves of former players — he's living proof. Many remember Leaf as the quarterback drafted No. 2 overall after Peyton Manning, the “bust” who threw 14 touchdowns, 36 interceptions and washed out of the sport. But everything that's happened since he left the NFL is the real story. Leaf battled severe depression and eight years of opioid abuse. Breaking into the homes of friends to steal Oxycodone and Vicodin, his addiction was out of control. Leaf attempted suicide, slicing his wrist with a dull life. He once considered letting his car run in his parents' closed garage so they'd find him.Leaf spent 32 months in prison.Leaf completely turned his life. The goal of our new show — “How the NFL Works” — is to bring you football in its most unfiltered form, so it only makes sense to bring on the man unafraid to reveal what life's like for players after the whistle. Because Leaf also knows this: He's not alone. He has become a go-to resource for players throughout the NFL. Original Go Long readers may remember the QB's first visit with us, shortly after former NFL wideout Vincent Jackson tragically died. (It was very emotional.)For an hour here, we take the conversation a step further. Audio is above. Video is below. Written transcript coming soon. A few topics discussed…* How he has linked up with ex-players at the Menninger Clinic in Houston.* Why he views the NFL as a “propaganda” and “money-printing” machine. Criticize the NFL and there's a good chance you're not welcomed onto the league's morning show. * Troy Vincent. He's got a problem with the league's executive vice president of football operations. * Conversations with struggling ex-players. Many, like him, are having suicidal ideation. He takes listeners into this cruel world that's not broadcast to the masses. His message to guys: “You could move mountains 100 times what you did as a football player.”* The “identity crisis” players face once they enter the real world after a life in football. * Leaf's prison roommate convinced him to teach other inmates how to read. This gave Leaf a sense of purpose, even if he didn't see it at the time. That sense of purpose changed everything in his life. Still, by no means does Leaf want people thinking a flip was switched and he's in the clear. Staying sober for 12 years (and counting) is a daily struggle. He nearly relapsed right when he got out of prison, then again years later. Leaf relives both days in immense detail. * Painkillers in football. They keep players on the field, but at what cost? It was a problem when Leaf played, and he's heard it's still a problem. * Today? Leaf is happily married with two kids, calls college football games, does work with the Menninger Clinic and started a new venture with “The Last Mile,” in which the ex-QB helps current inmates learn a skill they can take into the workforce once they're released. This work will also be featured on a new SiriusXM radio show. * Leaf recently walked into the prison in which he was incarcerated. The anxiety was overwhelming. He saw the same guards who treated him poorly. Then, he remembered his larger purpose. * What should the NFL do to help retirees?Thank you for reading, listening, watching and sharing Go Long with a friend.Have a question? Bible Reading: Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1-7Jackson was so excited he could hardly open his birthday gift. He hoped it was a puppet--something he'd been wanting ever since a ventriloquist had performed with one at a school event. He tore open the box. Sure enough, there was a puppet inside. His little sister, Jade, looked at it with wide-eyed wonder. "A doll!" she said. "Now we can play dolls together, Jax!""No way!" said Jackson. "This isn't a doll. It's a puppet like the one the guy had at our school carnival. Remember?""His puppet was alive," said Jade. "It could move and talk, but yours can't, can it?""It wasn't alive the way we are. That man made it move and talked for it." Jackson grinned. "Mine will come to life like that too! I'm naming him Vincent, and I'm going to learn to be a ventriloquist so I can make Vincent move and talk." Starting that day, Jackson began working hard to learn how to turn his puppet's head, move its mouth, and speak for it."Vincent is alive now, just like that man's puppet," Jade said several weeks later. Jackson beamed. He figured he was getting good enough to perform as a ventriloquist. At family devotions one morning, Dad turned to the second chapter of Ephesians. "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins," he read.Jade frowned. "What are trespasses?""They're the wrong things we do," said Jackson. "They're kinda the same thing as sins.""Well, who was dead, then?" asked Jade."In a way, everyone was--and many still are," replied Dad. "God says we all do wrong things because we were born into sin, and sin makes us spiritually dead." He looked at Jackson. "People are like Vincent--Jackson's puppet. Vincent is entirely limp and lifeless except when Jackson speaks for him and operates his controls. Vincent needs Jackson to have any kind of life, and people need Jesus to have spiritual life. When we trust Jesus, He frees us from sin and makes us alive."Jade smiled at her brother. "I like it when Jax makes Vincent alive.""And it's even better when God makes us alive," said Dad with a smile. "Because the life He gives us is real, and it lasts forever."–Mary Rose PearsonHow About You?Are you alive? Or are you still dead in sin? Maybe you're trying your best to be really good so you'll go to heaven someday. But God says you're a sinner, and someone who is spiritually dead can't have eternal life with Him. You must be made alive through Jesus. If you haven't trusted Him as your Savior, do it today. Then you'll begin to truly live! Should Dublin take inspiration from Copenhagen and look at setting up swap centres across the city for people to leave things they don't need any more in a bid to reduce waste? One councillor who thinks so is Vincent Jackson, Local Election Candidate, Independent Councillor for Ballyfermot and he joined Ciara this morning.

Gardaí in Ballyfermot were attacked by what some people are describing as a lawless mob. The Guards were there as part of a policing plan around the funeral of a young man. The plan had been put in place because Guards had been warned that a large number of scramblers would be at the funeral. One guard was struck in the face by a bottle after trying to help an elderly woman when she was nearly hit by one of the scrambler bikes. One video shows a crowd of young people gathering around two guards, shouting and lunging at them. Andrea was joined by Tara McManus, Assistant General Secretary of the Garda Representative Association and Vincent Jackson, Independent Councillor in Ballyfermot and other listeners to discuss… Image: Screenshot of the event taking place in Ballyfermot, Dublin Twitter/@dubslife1
Footballguys staff writer Adam Harstad joins RSP Film and Data as Matt Waldman's cohost for the 2022 football season to discuss practices that will make you a better fantasy GM and NFL fan. There are a lot of excellent writers and analysts in the fantasy industry. There are few that I hold in as high a regard as Adam. He's a forthright human being with a tremendous intellect whose approach to analysis in this space differs from most. He's also an excellent fantasy GM in re-draft and dynasty formats. Unlike Dwain McFarland, whose work delves into the statistical process, Adam spends a lot of time examining results and dealing with broad themes of decision-making that help us become better fantasy players and fantasy analysts: Why Adam encourages fantasy GMs to spend a vast majority of one's FAAB on one player, save the rest for rotating streamers on kicker and defense, and devote more energy to preemptive picks in FCFS. The difference between descriptive and predictive stats. Why yards per carry can have value but are misused. The greatness of Billy Howton, Del Shofner, Henry Ellard, William Andrews, and John Jefferson and the events that altered their potential to earn the acclaim they deserve. How the media's relationship has changed with the NFL and why Vincent Jackson's contract impasse with the Chargers would have been seen in a different light. The ways fans and media pathologize player personalities inaccurately: Odell Beckham, Tom Brady, Antonio Brown, and Russell Wilson. Why Momentum Exists and Running Backs Matter, but the way analytics-driven media communicate their points tarnishes their ideas. And of course, if you want to know about the rookies from this draft class, you will find the most in-depth analysis of offensive skill players available (QB, RB, WR, and TE), with the 2022 Rookie Scouting Portfolio for $21.95. Matt's new RSP Dynasty Rankings and Two-Year Projections Package is available for $24.95 If you're a fantasy owner and interested in purchasing past publications for $9.95 each, the 2012-2020 RSPs also have a Post-Draft Add-on that's included at no additional charge. If you're a fantasy owner and interested in purchasing past publications for $9.95 each, the 2012-2020 RSPs also have a Post-Draft Add-on that's included at no additional charge. Best yet, proceeds from sales are set aside for a year-end donation to Darkness to Light to combat sexual abuse of children.
Brandon Vincent Jackson is one of the most talented comedians in Delaware. An adjunct professor at the University of Delaware, teaching English as a second language, Jackson started doing stand-up in Philadelphia in the winter of 2013-2014. He spent time in New York City before the pandemic and moved home to wait it out. Jackson found a new way to approach stand-up and turned it into his debut album, English for Criminals, which comes out on Friday, May 27. He's also working on a variety show, also called English for Criminals, that he's hoping to bring across the country. “The biggest epidemic of 2021 isn't Covid. It is mental health, trauma and addiction”- Theo Fleury I've had plenty of Make Your Mark podcast guests and Clubroom events that have focused on victory of bad over good, overcoming hurdles, challenges and struggles. Plenty of laughs too. But having both Theo Fleury and Eric Kussin in the Clubroom to talk about mental health issues as we continue our march through Covid was worth every second of this event. Each suffered through significant trauma, and as you listen to this podcast you will not only hear their life experiences, but also the ways that you can change your day-to-day, your outlook and your mindset towards better days ahead. We all have faced extraordinary challenges over the past 18 months, some more than others, and this is an episode worth listening to, whether over a morning coffee or an evening curled up on the couch. “We think if I'm messed up in this place and I need to get better by sleeping more, sleeping will be the healing agent for me, and we have to resist that urge. Stagnation breeds stagnation. The more I lay down and I wait for it to get better, the less chance I am going to get up.” - Eric Kussin Multitudes of thanks to both Eric and Theo for baring their hearts and souls for us, they truly are making such a positive impact, and make sure to catch their podcast as well, "We're All A Little “Crazy”." Here are just a few of the examples of wisdom and knowledge that Eric and Theo shared. Make sure to listen for the rest! “I hate the word addiction because it has so much shame attached to it, and really what this is all about is emotional pain management. We all take different avenues and different paths to either suppress or numb out from that emotional pain, because emotional pain is mental illness.” - Theo Fleury “I had no idea it was related to my past life events. Once I found a doctor who helped me put that together…”Eric, your central nervous system, everything involved from a biological perspective, there's an explanation for everything that has happened to you, and that has been built up cumulatively over time.” The best analogy I can make is how plaque builds up in our arteries and can cause a heart attack. That buildup of stress and trauma over time does the same. It looks slightly different in each of us, but it's the buildup of all this stuff that leads there.” - Eric Kussin “We have the highest suicide rates in the history of our planet, so whatever messaging has taken place up to this point isn't working.” - Theo Some Topics we talk about in this episode: 2:00 - Intro 3:00 - Eric Kussin & Theo Fleury 5:40 - The biggest epidemic of 2021 isn't Covid 8:10 - The Media's corrupt code of ethics 9:00 - The case of Vincent Jackson 11:50 - It's not a silver bullet answer 12:00 - I hate the word addiction 14:00 - You should see the reaction when they hear I've been raped by my coach 17:00 - There's an explanation for what's happened to you 19:20 - A magical conversation Theo and Eric had 20:30 - The start of the We're All A Little “Crazy” Podcast 23:40 - The individual words matter 24:00 - School shootings don't have to do with mental health? 25:10 - We have the highest suicide rates in the history of our planet 27:00 - Honesty, Openness and Willingness 29:00 - Our brain Chemistry is out of whack 34:00- Laying in bed does not equal rest - Sleeping is not the healing agent 36:00 - Medications are not cures 38:50 - Getting that trapped energy out 40:30 - The Scale App 51:00 - Recalibrating 53:00 - 6 by 6 cell 57:30 - Creating a safe space is not the fluff you're thinking 60:30 - Trauma before the NHL 65:50 - Our mental health is impacted 68:00 - Handling trauma before it's too late 70:00 - Your mental health toolkit 75:00 - We're all a little crazy! 80:00 - Wrap up How to get involved Be sure to connect with me on Social Media @MarkMoyerCoach and go to my website, www.markmoyer.com to get access to the tips and strategies that my coaching clients get directly.
