When actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham AFC, it generated significant interest in the United States. Two Hollwood stars attaching themselves to a team in Wales, par of the English football system, gave Americans another way in which they could connect with the beautiful game, globally. But, when they turned it into a sports documentary, it opened the door to soccer for casual fans in the same way Ted Lasso and other cinematic content did as well. Josh Drisko joined Founding Futbol to talk about his journey with Welcome to Wrexham. He built a successful career in television, intersecting with McElhenney in multiple cities, and ultimately working with him on the hit television show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Drisko and others remained together working on more McElhenney projects over the years. When the actors bought Wrexham, a series of events led Drisko to become part of the project. He talks about the differences between fiction and documentaries. The connection he built with the content, and more. Founding Futbol is a year-long exploration of the critical moments that have led to soccer's emerging popularity in America.Visit our website for more information: FoundingFutbol.com. Welcome to Wrexham Welcome to Wrexham is definitely not the kind of show we would normally ever cover on The Periodic Table, lets get that out front now. But in much the same way Ted Lasso was also not the kind of thing we thought we would ever get invested in, (and then gave it perfect scores!) Wrexham slides in behind the goal posts of our hearts, and scores a ripper goal from the square, and nobody is offside with it at all! The team on the field tonight was essentially a striker and a Goalie, but hot damn, Jill and QUinny kicked some reviewing goals with this one! And the help of the chat, i'm pretty sure we won the night! Synopsis Docuseries chronicling the purchase and stewardship of Wrexham AFC, one of professional football's oldest clubs, by two Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. A huge thank you to all our Supporters and flag waving Wrexham fans who have joined the chorus for the show each week, often bringing their own Paul mullin style enthusiasm to the proceedings, (we're almost sure they see this as them joining in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream). If you haven't done so before, come on down to the digital Wrexham ground for a live show with us 7:30pm next week, to join in on mayhem!. Special love and thanks goes to those who have financially bolstered this podcast via dropping some Deadpool style cash into our Ko-Fi jar and now also by subscribing on Twitch! Your generosity is always appreciated! If you feel so inclined drop us a sub! The more subs we get the more Emotes You get! Emma Appleton joins us on this week's show to talk all about Paramount+'s The Killing Kind, and James gets a potted football primer from Boydy as we dive into the second season of Welcome To Wrexham (though the revelation that it's fine to be offside as long as you're not actually doing anything might have broken him). We also join Jenna Coleman on a homicidal/romantic road trip in Prime Video's Wilderness, and catch up with Domina on Sky. All in an episode that proves to be rather more boob-oriented than you might expect...
