In John's gospel, Jesus said, I am THE WAY, and no one comes to the FATHER except through Me. If you've seen Me you've seen the FATHER. Believe Me, I am in the FATHER and the FATHER is in Me. And I pray for those who will believe in Me, that they all may be one, as You, FATHER, are in Me, and I in You; THAT THEY MAY HE ONE IN US, that the world may believe that You sent Me. Possibly one of the greatest revelations a believer can comprehend is, “that they may be one in Us” Make no mistake, the “In Christ” life, at the end of the day is THE ETERNAL WITNESS, commissioned by the Master Himself. After all, according to Revelation 3, These things says THE AMEN, THE FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS, the Beginning of the creation of God.
Most of us have ideas about who God is that are not based in biblical truth. We might think of Him like an angry father, or as a distant God who isn't really listening to our prayers. But we can know who God is by looking at the life and person of Jesus, because just as Jesus said in John 14, "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me." Just as God promised through the prophets (Joel 2:28), He still speaks in dreams and visions to His people today! Take a few minutes to listen to the beautiful vision and message that God gave to Rachel Caetano, and ask Him to continue to reveal Himself to you!
Greetings, my friends. Our choices today shape our lives and calling. Trust God to lead you step by step.Through decades of walking with God in my life and career, I have learned that following the living God is the only way to experience His best. Today, I encourage you to ask yourself: Who am I truly following in my decisions?God invites us to 'Believe Me for More.' Daily choices, guided by faith and obedience, position us for God's best. Trust His power and guidance each step.Set goals by seeking God's vision. Prioritize listening to God's direction for every step, moving forward in faith that He will provide. When obstacles arise, focus on what God has spoken. Ask if you're moving forward in faith or hesitating from doubt. At times, God's goals may feel distant or challenging. When that happens, take every thought captive and ask God to confirm your direction. When anxiety over costs or risks arises, bring your concerns to God and trust His provision.Today, I want to share with you some proven Biblical insights that God has given me and will give to all who seek Him first. I invite you to apply these principles—commit this week to listening for God's guidance and to acting on what He reveals to you.Listen to God, trust His guidance, and obey in His timing. Pray: 'Lord, am I in step with You?'The answers to these questions are always found in Scripture. Over the years, I have kept dates and notes in my Bible about challenges I faced and the direction God gave me. These 'journey markers' remind me of moments when God spoke and proved Himself faithful.Isaiah 30:15 teaches that quietness and confidence renew our strength. True leadership flows from intimacy with God. Withdraw for renewal and clarity when distractions mount.Today, God reassured me that I am moving in the right direction and walking in step with Him. What a boost to my confidence! It all comes from taking time to quiet myself before God and listen for His voice.God reassures us to walk by faith, not by sight. Avoid counterfeit guidance, trusting in God's provision and leading. For all who believe, trust, and obey God in their lives, careers, families, and with those they serve, the path is sure. The takeaway: As you walk with God, He will consistently guide your steps in every direction you go.Send Tony a Texthttps://www.seldicompany.com/

Matt and Dawn are joined by Doctor Who and Star Trek podcaster Suky to review four new shows available this week. Jeff Pope, king of adapting true stories into compelling drama series, is back with Believe Me. This four-parter, available now on ITVX, focuses on the horrific sex crimes of Black Cab driver John Warboys, who tricked female passengers into drinking champagne laced with pills so he could rape them. It's a deeply frustrating but important watch. Also, more loosely based on a true story, Netflix has Legends, a series about ordinary people who work for the security services during the 1980s. Next, Apple TV has a new Israeli drama, Unconditional, about a mother and daughter whose relationship is strained when one does something the other can't believe they'd do. It's a hard show to connect to. Finally, This is Not a Murder Mystery, a bonkers but vibrant murder mystery which features some scenery chewing performances, but is fun to watch. Lastly, Dawn sets a quiz that proves difficult.
Yes, we're back in Rutshire this week as the team (well, one of us) gets to dive back into the world of Jilly Cooper's bucolic shagathon for Rivals series 2 (1:32:54), speaking of which, we also explore the other sexy ice hockey drama with Off Campus on Prime (1:43:52), get surprised by an unexpected new episode of The Bear (1:39:58), and look into the police mishandling of a notorious serial sex offender in Believe Me on ITV (1:17:59). Plus Steve Coogan sits down in the Pilot TV studio to chat Netflix's Legends (47:39-1:06:22), the team mull over a selection of particularly ill-conceived character arcs, and there's even more bee chat than last week as our apian allies drop by to make their feelings about the podcast known first-hand.Note: time stamps are approximate as the ads throw them out, so are only meant as a guide. [Jesus said] “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know Me, Philip? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. … The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority, but the Father who dwells in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” (John 14:1-9a, 10b-11)
John 14:11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. We should pivot and seek after Jesus because of two witnesses. First, the witness of Jesus' own testimony. Second, the witness of the works He did while on the earth. If the self-testimony of Christ are denied, the source and authority of the works He did cannot be denied. Again, Jesus identified the pivot point, the seismic faith-building reality: Jesus is in God and God is in Him. They are one in essence. True faith abides or lives in this great and awesome reality. John said it this way in his first letter: 1 John 4:2-3 “By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.” This is so foundational that John also described this union of God and man as he testified to those who are true believers. This truth is what this verse opens up for us. John wrote in 1 John 4:15-16 “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” Let's connect a couple of dots. Where is the place that Jesus went to prepare for us to live? That place is in Himself, who is in God! It's the place He said in verse 3 that made it possible for Him to come to us so we could be where He is. He is our abiding place, our dwelling place so that we can love as He loves. Tuesday, 3 February 2026 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 16:17 “And Jesus, answering, He said to him, ‘Blessed you are, Simon, Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood not it revealed to you, but My Father, the ‘in the heavens'” (CG). In the previous verse, Peter said to Jesus that He was the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew next records, “And Jesus, answering, He said to him, ‘Blessed you are.'” This is the first time that Jesus has said such a thing directly to a person. So far, His blessing statements have been general in nature, such as – “Blessed – the pure of heart, For they – God they will see.” Matthew 5:8 His words, then, bear a special highlight that is explained as the verse continues. As for who is blessed, Jesus says, “Simon, Bar-Jonah.” The name Bar-Jonah means “Son of Jonah,” bar being the Aramaic equivalent of the Hebrew ben. Both mean “son.” The name Jonah is derived from the Hebrew yonah, a dove. It is the same name as the prophet Jonah. Some translations say, “son of John” instead of “son of Jonah.” The names are interchangeable from the Greek transliteration. But it is likely Jonah is correct for several reasons, including Old Testament typology, of which the Book of Jonah fits nicely in with events from the life of Peter. Using the father's name instead of his given name is common in the Bible. Saying a person's first name signifies general talk. Using the father's name can be as an honorific, a term of joking familiarity, a term of indifference, a term of contempt, etc. The context determines which. But it is a way of highlighting the person when speaking to or about him. Jesus continues, “for flesh and blood not it revealed to you.” The word haima, blood, is introduced here. The word's origin isn't certain, but it signifies blood both literally, as in that of people or animals, and figuratively, as in juice, such as grapes. It can be used substantially when referring to Jesus' atoning blood. Thus, it refers to His bloodshed and, thus, His death. The meaning of Jesus' words is that Peter didn't just hear this from someone or when people were speaking. Nor was it something that was derived from earthly facts that he could put together to conclude that Jesus is the Christ of God. Rather, his deduction was one based on God the Father working through Jesus. That is seen in the next words, “but My Father, the ‘in the heavens'” In other words, there have been lots of people who have been proclaimed the Messiah throughout the years, but those have all been regular people with no basis for the claim. The Person of Jesus is on an order of magnitude so much greater than any other supposed Messiah. Observing Him and seeing His works, Peter saw and understood that He was revealing God in Christ, nothing less. Having said that, this doesn't mean that Peter was under divine inspiration or that he understood that Jesus is God. At this point, his limited view of Jesus was that God was working in Him. That is not contradictory. Jesus had to explicitly say it to him and the other disciples later in His ministry – “Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.' Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, “Show us the Father”? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.'” John 14:8-11 Despite this clear presentation of Himself, these men still did not understand. Only after the resurrection did the muddied waters of their thinking begin to clear. Peter has gone as far as his mind could take him at this point concerning who Jesus is. But what he has contemplated is of divine origin as God has revealed Himself through Jesus, whom he and the other disciples have so closely interacted with. Life application: A noted pastor was speaking on the blood of Jesus. He essentially said, “It isn't the blood, the substance, that was special but what it signified.” Oh boy, was he barbecued and called a heretic. The know-it-all community pulled out their blood samples from Jesus' cross and proved that he was wrong. Obviously, that didn't happen. Nobody knows what Jesus' blood is like. The speculation about it could go on and on, but without evidence, we are left with what then must be what is on God's mind, which is exactly what the preacher was trying to communicate. In the Bible, blood and life, and thus blood and death, are taken synonymously. One of many such examples is found in Leviticus 17 – “And whatever man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell among you, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.” Leviticus 17:10, 11 To pour out an animal's blood was to pour out its life. When Jesus died, He is said to have poured out His soul (Isaiah 53:12), meaning the lifeblood. Thus, it is a direct analogy to death. This is explicit from Deuteronomy 12:23, where the soul is said to be the blood – “Only you must seize to failure of eating the blood. For the blood, it the soul, and not you will eat the soul with the meat” (CG). Be sure that the preacher was not teaching heresy. He was making a point about what the blood signifies. Don't get caught up in every “heresy” accusation that is flung around by people. Think such issues through, and be ready to defend proper theology when someone is in the right. Glorious God, we thank You for the precious shed blood of Jesus Christ. In His death, we have life everlasting, if we will just accept it as our atonement. We have sinned, and do we ever need a Savior! He has come! Thank You for Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
What if following God's commands unlocked a deeper relationship than you've ever known? Through Pastor Dave's powerful message, we discover that truly seeing God requires more than belief—it demands love expressed through obedience. Drawing from John 14, he challenges us to move beyond merely liking God to genuinely loving Him through keeping His commands. This transformative teaching shows how aligning our lives with God's Word invites His manifest presence, bringing freedom, provision, and miracles. Ready to experience God in a fresh way? Watch now to discover how genuine love for God can trigger your divine purpose.John 14:2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

On this week's VIDEO episode of the podcast, Phillip is joined for the first time by Mike D. from @ReelBlack on Instagram, to discuss 1973's Charley One Eye starring Richard Roundtree. Who better to have on to talk about a blaxploitation movie than ReelBlack. They start the show by Mike explaining who he is and what he does. He has restored Riverbend from 1989 starring Steve James. In fact, THE FIRST PERSON TO DM MIKE D. ON https://www.instagram.com/reelblackrenaissance?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=am9mNjhlY2M5bm0y and let him know that you heard him on this podcast will get a signed postcard of Riverbend by the director Sam Firstenberg (American Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja, Ninja III: The Domination, Breakin 2: Electric Bugaloo, etc.). Phillip then reads the general information about the movie with some facts thrown in. It's then time for Listener Opinions from Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. They then discuss the movie Charley One Eye. It's a fun and informative conversation, with Mike explaining some things from a black point of view. Phillip and Mike then answer whether they notice anything from this movie, that Tarantino may have liked or used in a film. They then individually rate the movie. Then they talk about whether they would buy this movie, rent it, or find it for free. It's then time for Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Anora (2024). Mike D. recommends; Riverbend (1989), They Won't Believe Me (1947), and Devil Thumbs a Ride (1947). Phillip then promotes next week's show when he will be joined once again by Rob Papp to discuss Suspicion (1941). Here we have Jesus' answer to the Jews who were persecuting Him for healing on the Sabbath. John 5:17 But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.” Later in John 14:10-11, John recorded very similar words from Jesus explaining His union with His Father and His Father's working. “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you, I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise, believe because of the works themselves.” Jesus lived to work with the Father. If His Father was healing on the Sabbath, then Jesus spoke the words. Did you notice in John 14:10 that when Jesus spoke, the Father worked? That's how the lame man was healed. Jesus spoke, not from His own initiative, but from His Father's, “Get up. Take up your pallet and walk.” Then God did His work and healed the man. Jesus constantly abided in the Father, meaning, He lived for the same purpose the Father did, which was to love for the glory of the Father, and He thought and spoke as the Father thought and spoke. This is the live to love with Jesus encouragement from this verse. We should be able to say the very same thing. We have Jesus abiding in us, and as we abide in Him, meaning, as we live with His purpose and think and say what He says, then Jesus does His works. If Jesus is speaking or working in any given moment, then we receive what He gives us and express His presence and power through our words and actions. We trust He will do the work as we receive and give. That's what it means to live to love with Jesus. Just as Jesus received from the Father and then gave what He received, we receive what the Father gives us through Christ in us and then give what we receive. Another important encouragement from this verse is implied. Jesus lived for the glory of God and not man. Even though Jesus knew He would not receive the glory from men if He healed the man on the Sabbath, He was most satisfied in glorifying His Father by doing His will. This encourages us to not seek the glory of men as we live each day, rather we seek the glory of God, and the way to glorify God is to live to love with Jesus. When Jesus is loving, we are loving. When we are loving, Jesus is loving. We are one with Him for the glory of God. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of "giving it forward," so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. John 2:11 This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. Today, I want us to be encouraged by the glory of God in Jesus Christ. We learn from this verse that the miracle of changing water to wine was a revelation of Jesus' glory, which had an impact upon His disciples. First, consider that the glory Jesus manifested was given to Him by the Father. We learn that from John 17:5, “Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” And in John 17:22, “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one.” The way the Son of God received glory from His Father was by His Father working in and through Him. The way the Son glorifies the Father is by receiving His will, word, and power one moment at a time. Jesus says as much in His answer to Philip, who asked that He show the Father to him and the disciples. Listen carefully to these words and notice that Jesus' primary aim was that the Father be glorified in the Son. Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. Do you see it? When Jesus receives the Father's thinking (which, by the way, is the Greek root of the word glory), the Father does His works in Him. When the Father does His works in Jesus, He glorifies the Father, and He receives and manifests His glory from the Father. S,o this makes sense that John would say that the sign Jesus did at the wedding manifested His glory. I draw this conclusion. Jesus glorified His Father, God, by living to love with His Father. We fulfill our purpose of glorifying God by living to love with Jesus as He glorifies the Father through and with us. Here's the encouragement for all who live to love with Jesus. Like Jesus, our primary aim is that the Father be glorified in the Son. The Father is glorified in His Son, Jesus, as we abide in Jesus and His life is manifested in and through us. As we live to love with Jesus, Jesus does the work of love for us as we ask Him to do it like He promised in John 14:13-14. Did you notice above in those verses that Jesus invited them to ask, and He promised twice to do it for them? If the Father does the work in Jesus, His glory is manifested. If Jesus does the work in us, the Father i glorified in the Son in and through us. Therefore, I conclude with this encouragement. When we live to love with Jesus, and Jesus lives His life in us, we fulfill our ultimate purpose of glorifying God. We receive the glory of God manifested in the life of Jesus Christ, who lives in us. When this happens, people will believe in Jesus as they witness and experience His love. There is no greater purpose for your life than this: living to love with Jesus for the glory of God. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of “giving it forward,” so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. John 14New King James Version:The Way, the Truth, and the Life14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. No one comes to the Father except through Me.The Father Revealed7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. The Answered Prayer12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you [c]ask anything in My name, I will do it.Jesus Promises Another Helper15 “If you love Me, [d]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.Indwelling of the Father and the Son19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and [f]manifest Myself to him.”22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.The Gift of His Peace25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the [g]Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because [h]I said, ‘I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I.29 “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

In the former time He brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time He has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. Second Reading – Colossians 1:15–20 [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross. Third Reading – John 14:1–11 [Jesus said:] “Let not your hearts be troubled. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority, but the Father who dwells in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

John 13:33-14:14 33 Little children, I am still with you a little longer. You will look for Me; and just as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.' 34 I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.” 36 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.” 37 Peter *said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You.” 38 Jesus *replied, “Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly I say to you, a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times. 14:1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be. 4 And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.” 8 Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own, but the Father, as He remains in Me, does His works.11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. John 4:1-42 So then, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that He was making and baptizing more disciples than John2 (although Jesus Himself was not baptizing; rather, His disciples were), 3 He left Judea and went away again to Galilee. 4 And He had to pass through Samaria. 5 So He *came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; 6 and Jacob's well was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was just sitting by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samaria *came to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away to the city to buy food. 9 So the Samaritan woman *said to Him, “How is it that You, though You are a Jew, are asking me for a drink, though I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus replied to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” 11 She *said to Him, “Sir, You have no bucket and the well is deep; where then do You get this living water? 12 You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well and drank of it himself, and his sons and his cattle?” 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never be thirsty; but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.” 15 The woman *said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty, nor come all the way here to draw water.”16 He *said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”17 The woman answered and said to Him, “I have no husband.” Jesus *said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband'; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this which you have said is true.” 19 The woman *said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and yet you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.” 21 Jesus *said to her, “Believe Me, woman, that a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. 23 But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman *said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26 Jesus *said to her, “I am He, the One speaking to you.” 27 And at this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What are You seeking?” or, “Why are You speaking with her?”28 So the woman left her waterpot and went into the city, and *said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is He?” 30 They left the city and were coming to Him. 31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?”34 Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields, that they are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this case the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.' 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have come into their labor.” 39 Now from that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One truly is the Savior of the world.” BIBLE READING GUIDE - FREE EBOOK - Get the free eBook, Bible in Life, to help you learn how to read and apply the Bible well: https://www.listenerscommentary.com GIVE - The Listener's Commentary is a listener supported Bible teaching ministry made possible by the generosity of people like you. A particularly important episode of the Mind Over Finger Podcast with guest Lara St. John where we discuss the context and impact of sexual abuse, the lack of representation, and how women often don't get the support they need. Lara shares her own experiences and she stresses the need for institutions to step up and create a safe space for everyone by being transparent, and having clear steps to handle sexual harassment and assault. Finally, we touch on the power dynamics and gender issues in the classical music world and the difficulty of addressing these issues in a society that often prefers to stay silent Download the transcript from this episode HERE MORE ABOUT LARA ST.
