I first met Brett back in 2007 and quickly became a seed investor in his company, TubeMogul. He’s a special guest, and not just because he’s made me some money. Brett is an amazing investor, entrepreneur, board member and thought leader. No one has been at the center of video (specifically digital) quite like Brett. Since selling TubeMogul to Adobe and leading advertising efforts there for a bit, Brett is now an angel investor, partner at Swift Ventures, and board member at companies such as Tubi, WeTravel and, more recently, Arize AI. In this episode, Brett and I had a great discussion about being at the center of the video bomb, TikTok, Netflix, Tubi, life as a CEO and entrepreneur, company pivots, TubeMogul’s journey, resurfacing trends, AI and what excites him as an investor as of late. We talked about a lot of great companies, trends, industries and the types of people who make them great. You have experiences across the globe. Everything from adventure to relaxing stays in resorts. You are in love with travel and who you get to become as you literally explore yourself and the world. Yet, something inside of you is itching to not only getaway, but to recharge, stay healthy, create, and connect with a. community while traveling   You want to create a life and business you love. You want a community to connect, create, and cultivate with. You want to transform and travel.   It's easy to see why Global Wellness economy is a. $4.2 Trillion industry and why it continues to grow.. Traveling helps you release stress, reinvent yourself, increase happiness, and enhance creativity. You want fun, food, fitness, lifestyle, entrepreneurship, and community.   You may want to Create Retreats to Transform and Travel, or you may want to know what retreat types are best for you to attend.   There's plenty of ways to create retreats and to transform and travel whether you create retreats, or attend one. After you read this, you will be clear on 3 ways to create retreats to transform and travel (and what retreats types are best for you to attend).   Follow the Create Retreats: 3 Ways to Create Retreats to Transform and Travel: (And Retreats Types Best for You) It will plant the side, and help you get clear to create your own retreats or attend wellness retreats!   You may also want to check out our domestic and international retreats (New Orleans, Atlanta, Brazil coming up), and/or get the 411 as soon as our How to Create + Launch Retreats course drops!   These are 3 Ways to Create Retreats to Transform and Travel (And Retreats Types Best for You) for creating a life, business, and community you love.   So let's create retreats and explore the 3 ways to create retreats to Transform and Travel. In each section, I will also give you insight into retreat types best for you to create and/or attend.   I'm sharing here ways to get clear with who are and what you offer, themes you love, and tribes and technology you love.     1) Know Your Passion and Purpose If you want to create retreats, it is important to get to know yourself even better. You want to dig deep on what you love, your value, and all you have to offer.   Ask yourself what do you. love? What have you overcome? What are your gifts, talents, and abilities? How may you serve? Who would you love to connect the community with? Make a list and journal this out. You may want to. take the free video series on How Passion + Purpose = Profits   For example, I am crystal clear I love our creator, health, wealth, business, travel, and the beach. So, whether I am creating a retreat or attending one - you clearly get the picture what I love to create.   This activity will also help you get clear on your theme for the retreat you create or attend and the community you want to create with.   2) Get an Idea of the Theme for Retreats   I'm sure you got the sense that I am multi-passionate. It wouldn't surprise me if you are too and you love the idea of creating retreats with multiple components and activities. You may also love retreats that are solely focused on an adventure or solely focused on yoga.   Guess what -. whether you create them and/or you attend them - you have the freedom to choose! You also have the freedom to one time create one theme, and the next time another. The same goes for the retreats you choose to attend!   You want to think about what you will want the day to be like, workshops v. down-time, adventure v. community service, rejuvenation v. jam - packed. You have the. freedom to create and change.   If you want more on the themes, you may love my book on creating retreats (see the menu "books" or. my free guide on Creating Retreats. This includes a sample agenda in our free guide and retreat page.   3) Tribes and Technology   You may now see why the first way to create retreats (or attend them), I outlined a focus on being clear with who you are and what you want to experience. The first step led us to a second step of thinking about the theme you want to create for your own retreats or experience when you attend one.   Now, we are ready to talk about tribes and technology. When you know who you are, what you love, and what you want, it becomes easier and easier to connect with your tribe. It seems almost magical how we start to create a community that simply gets us. You are also clear on what type of. tribe you don't want. You either create our retreat from that space or look for one to attend.   This may look like a tribe of yogi's, vegan's, surfer's or all in one. like us. You get the point! The key is then asking where would this tribe hangout and how may we connect with them?   The same way you share content on social media - you could share about your retreats across social media platforms and use #hashtags that relate to your community. For example, we use #lifestylentrepreneur #wellness #transformation #city #country.   The same applies for leveraging technology on more platforms to connect with a. community. If you are creating retreats, you will want to think about how to set up your landing page for success, For example, we list our pages via Wix and Kajabi. You want to think about how and where else may you connect with more people? For example, we list on BookRetreats, RetreatGuru, WeTravel to name a few platforms. We also teach this in our How to Create + Launch Retreat course that launches soon! You may do the exact same for the DIYers!   You want to keep in mind with tribes and technology is to be yourself and share what you love and what you have to offer. Will it take hard work and dedication? Yes! This is us now years in the making! There are two types of traveling - solo traveling, and group traveling. Both have their benefits, depending on the person, but neither one can be easy to accomplish. Johannes Koeppel, the CEO of WeTravel, visits Hayden to talk about his website, which helps travelers create and join group trips around the world. Hayden and Johannes also talk about Johannes’ travel experiences and why he wants to travel and give back to the world. They also discuss putting life in perspective, shifting your mindset, spending appropriate amounts of time in other cultures, and how traveling can shape a child’s open mindset. Johannes shares his Moscow-set story, titled, “From Russia With Love,” in which he attends Moscow State University and, while he still didn’t really understand the country, lived through a fire alarm that was an indicator of a much larger and more terrifying event. This experience left Johannes with the feeling of danger, of never feeling safe, of a constant unease. This wake-up call changed his outlook on life and his attitude while he lived in Russia. Before he leaves, Johannes talks about the traveling “itch” and the thrill that comes from not knowing where tomorrow will bring you. He also shares how he came up with the idea to create WeTravel, who uses it, and how to use it. There are two types of traveling, and Johannes Koeppel may be able to help you figure out the best choice for you. 0:42 - Hayden talks about the two different types of traveling - solo traveling, and traveling with a group, and the benefits of either one. 2:40 - Hayden introduces Johannes Koeppel, the CEO of WeTravel. WeTravel helps you create a group trip and join other group trips. 3:57 - Johannes and Hayden talk about Johannes’ travel experience, where he joined Doctors Without Borders and the International Committee of the Red Cross. After growing up privileged, Johannes wants to give back, and he wants to travel, as well. They also talk about putting life into perspective. 9:35 - Johannes discusses values and how important it is to spend an extended amount of time in a country, because this can drastically shift both your perspective and your mindset. Hayden agrees, and talks about how travel can make you question your own life and mind. 12:14 - Hayden and Johannes discuss traveling with children and how travel can shape a child’s life going forwards from their childhood. They talk about the traveling “itch,” not knowing where you might be tomorrow, and how difficult it can be to settle down. 15:00 - Johannes starts telling his story, set in Moscow, titled, “From Russia With Love.” Johannes arrived at the Moscow State University, to his tiny room, with his tiny bed; he didn’t really understand the country yet. A fire alarm went off in the freezing cold late March, and he made a startling discovery as to the origins of the alarm. It left him with the feeling of danger, of never feeling safe, of a constant unease. His experiences left him with a wake-up call “from Russia, with love.”
