According to the Las Cruces Sun Times, "Founded in 1989 by ROTC cadets at New Mexico State University, the annual march commemorates American and Filipino soldiers in World War II who were forced to march 65 miles through jungle terrain. Each year, the event draws thousands of participants, including survivors of the 1942 death march, to the U.S. Army installation east of Las Cruces, for a 26.2-mile hike or run through sandy terrain on an uphill circuit from the main post around Mineral Hill, north of US Highway 70." We discuss some of the considerations of international race traveling such as race preparations and juggling time spent sightseeing while getting rest before a big race. Wendy also shares her experience in Thailand with the Hash House Harriers, an international running club. Running a race with friends and family may lead to discussions about what is the right pace for both runners. Wendy and I talk about things which we have found helpful to say or to hear when running together. Hopefully, these approaches are helpful to you too. Lastly, we touch on cold therapy, a treatment for inflammation, and a few of Wendy's favorite running items include her HOKA sneakers and her Hips Sister running belt. In today's episode we discuss the Bismarck, North Dakota half marathon, a September road race celebrating its 40th anniversary. A few race details include that it is a Saturday race which begins and ends in Bismarck's Cottonwood Park. The loop course travels through neighborhoods and along the Missouri River. With race registration, runners receive a nylon bag which includes bright green compression socks. Pacer groups are offered. Post race festivities include a street festival and Bismarck pub crawl. The race community in Bismarck was very friendly and the race course and finish area were well supported with volunteers.
