Looking for 1:1 Ultra Running Coaching? Check out Troy's Coaching Page https://runtraillife.com/pages/rtl-coaching-services "Belgium massively punches above their weight." On this episode of the pod Troy Meadows has a conversation with Stephan Parker. Stephen Parker shares his journey from a casual runner to an author of a book about the Backyard Ultra format, “There Is No Finish”. He discusses his evolution from road running to trail running, the impact of community events like Parkrun, and the balance of family life with his passion for running. Stephen delves into the unique psychological dynamics of the Backyard Ultra, emphasizing the importance of community and support among runners. He also shares insights into the logistics and strategies of endurance running, highlighting the mental resilience required to push limits in such challenging events. In this conversation, Stephen Parker and Troy Meadows delve into the intricacies of the backyard ultra format. They discuss the importance of managing both physical and intangible needs during long races, the unique dynamics of the Belgian running community, and the evolution of world championship formats due to COVID-19. Stephen shares an extraordinary story about Greg Armstrong, who managed to euthanize a goat and remove a snake while competing in a race. The conversation also touches on personal reflections on endurance racing, future goals, and the significance of community support in achieving success in ultra-endurance events. So, good morning everyone, Carlos here, taking you on an audio adventure in stereo. Currently on the Rolston Trail next to Rolston Creek, about to cross a small bridge. I can see some chalk markings from the Hash House Harriers. The trail is mostly packed dirt with a little asphalt section near a townhouse subdivision by Rithet's Bog. It's one of those places where they dictate what colour you can paint your garage door, very neighborhood-concept-oriented. Gotta unzip my jacket a bit to stay cool. Today's run will have long sections of ambient sound. I'll be heading to Majorca at the end of the month with friends for hiking, biking, running, and swimming. Invited my brother Pablo and Bill and friend Alan. Now, I'll enjoy the sounds of Rithet's Bog as I continue my run.

There's running, and then there's ~cool~ running. The Hash House Harriers are a "Drinking club with a running problem" founded in 1938. We may or may not have been convinced to workout! Next, Kat tells us about the Mad Gasser (no, this is not just Chipotle smear campaign). In the 1940s, a masked individual in the small town of Mattoon, Illinois was terrorizing citizens with a chemical gas that caused temporary paralysis. Take this learny journey with us to get to solve the case of the Mad Gasser. Vote for your favorite topics of 2022! https://linktr.ee/NightClassy Produced by Parasaur Studios © 2022
Discovery, Immersion, and Breaking the Mold.In this episode of The Outspoken Podcast, host Shana Cosgrove talks to Christie Getman, Country Director for Nepal at Mercy Corps. Christie describes how she landed on her path of international work, explaining her desire for a unique career. She also discusses the value of athletics and how she met her husband through a running club. Shana and Christie dive into the technical side of the work of Mercy Corps, illuminating the ways in which the mechanisms of foreign aid have evolved. Lastly, listen to the end to hear why Shana's voice provides Christie comfort while she's flying through mountains in the cabin of a small propeller plane. QUOTES “One of the messages that I always say to people is that this is a whole life career. This is not like ‘this is my job and this is my life.' When you're in this line of work, it affects your entire life - you have to be all in.” - Christie Getman [34:14] “The best thing that you can do if you want to support emergency response is send cash. It is the most cost effective, it's the most efficient, it's the lowest overhead, we can trace it the best, it gives people dignity, and it supports the local economy.” - Christie Getman [56:08] “What I've learned is that I need to just sit with it. Just lean into the silence for an extra minute or two, and inevitably someone who's less assertive will come forward, start, and give their opinion if I hold back. But if I don't hold back - and I jump in - that other person may never speak up.” - Christie Getman [62:51] TIMESTAMPS [00:04] Intro [01:31] Meeting Christie [04:34] Christie's Time in Baltimore [08:46] Christie's Childhood [18:38] Athletics as a Part of Building Community [21:43] Getting her Masters in Anthropology [25:22] Christie Explains what an NGO is [26:55] What Drew Christie to International Work [32:15] Countries that Christie Lived in [35:21] Motherhood When Working Internationally [39:42] Christie's Work in Nepal [44:02] Experiencing COVID in Nepal [47:00] Getting Technical [58:38] Christie's Advice for her Younger Self [63:42] Impactful Book [64:27] Christie's Surprising Facts [67:08] Outro RESOURCES https://www.richmond.edu/ (University of Richmond) http://www.baltimorefamilies.org/ (Baltimore Family Alliance) https://www.thebreakers.com/ (The Breakers Palm Beach) https://www.pasc.net/ (Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils) https://www.gotothehash.net/ (Hash House Harriers) https://www.gwu.edu/ (The George Washington University) https://www.worldbank.org/en/home (The World Bank) https://www.ngosource.org/what-is-an-ngo (What is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)?) https://www.accenture.com/us-en (Accenture) https://www.britannica.com/place/Martinique/History (History of Martinique) https://www.history.com/news/deadliest-tsunami-2004-indian-ocean (2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami) https://www.britannica.com/topic/Nepal-earthquake-of-2015 (Nepal Earthquake of 2015) https://kpi.org/KPI-Basics (Key Performance Indicator (KPI)) https://www.agilealliance.org/agile101/ (Agile) https://venmo.com/ (Venmo) https://www.zellepay.com/ (Zelle) https://www.paypal.com/us/home (Paypal) https://nepal.mercycorps.org/mercy-corps-nepal-covid-19-second-wave-emergency-response/ (Mercy Corps Nepal COVID Response with Christie's CNN Appearance) https://english.onlinekhabar.com/qr-code-payment-is-getting-popular-in-nepal-how-does-it-work-is-it-secure.html (QR Code Payment in Nepal) https://www.mercycorps.org/who-we-are/our-team/tjada-doyen-mckenna (Tjada D'Oyen McKenna, CEO of Mercy Corps) https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rapid-response-on-the-ground-in-ukraine-w-mercy-corps/id1227971746?i=1000553538254 (Masters of Scale Podcast with Tjada D'Oyen McKenna) https://www.whatsapp.com/ (WhatsApp) https://www.amazon.com/Alchemist-Paulo-Coelho/dp/0061122416 (The Alchemist) by Paulo Coelho RELEVANT LINKS...

In this episode Julie shares: Her advice to anyone starting a side hustle. How her Grandmother inspired her by having run her own little Country store in North Carolina. What inspired her to invent Swiggies. How she developed her first prototype and what it was made of. The process that she went through to get a trademark. How she first distributed product and what she did not realize regarding store sales. The strategy she regrets doing as well as the one she regrets not doing. How an impromptu meeting at a trade show led to a new market for Swiggies. What the Hash House Harriers are and how they expanded her market in to Alcohol. What a Trade Dress is and how she plans to use it to fight knock offs. The unfortunate event which allowed her to meet her Patent Attorney. Why she did not go on Shark Tank. When she knew that Swiggies had made it. That her next invention will be in the Pet Industry. Why she wrote her book, The Money Garden.
In this episode, my guest Wendy B. and I revisit the Dublin marathon, a race known as the World's Friendliest Marathon. We discuss some of the considerations of international race traveling such as race preparations and juggling time spent sightseeing while getting rest before a big race. Wendy also shares her experience in Thailand with the Hash House Harriers, an international running club. Running a race with friends and family may lead to discussions about what is the right pace for both runners. Wendy and I talk about things which we have found helpful to say or to hear when running together. Hopefully, these approaches are helpful to you too. Lastly, we touch on cold therapy, a treatment for inflammation, and a few of Wendy's favorite running items include her HOKA sneakers and her Hips Sister running belt. I hope you will join us for a listen and a few laughs! Happy running! https://hipssister.com/ Support 50 State Finish Lines! Please share the show with friends! Instagram: 50StateFinishLines

Hi Runners, I hope you enjoyed Episode #1 and now know a little more about me. Lindsey Hein is a great interviewer and was wonderful to speak to. Please give a listen to her podcast, I'll Have Another with Lindsey Hein. (https://lindseyhein.com) In Episode #2, we get to the format of Feel Good Running starting with a little blabbing by me with my thoughts. My friend recently sent me a Email that he went into Atrial Fibrillation the day after a triathlon and mentions his GPS & Apple Watch saved his life. He said this is common for older athletes. I'm not sure the age range that my audience will be when the podcast grows but this is good discussion for any age. I talk a little about that. The treat of this episode is my interview with Dr. Karen L. Ostlund. I've been friends with Karen and her husband Fred for a few years now. They come out to Maui from Austin, Texas at least twice a year and join our Wednesday Night Run and we do things outside of running. Karen is a true Feel Good Runner! Besides her passion as a Professor, teaching science at the University of Texas - Austin, her passion is running. Karen has done over 100 marathons, numerous half-marathons, 10 & 5k races and travels extensively to run them--many with friends. It seems every time I see her Facebook Post, she is running a race somewhere. She is also a running coach for Austin Fit. In addition to all the running Karen does, she and her husband friend give back by volunteering at local races. What is most amazing, Karen is 75 years old but looks and acts as if she is 45! I hope you enjoy this interview with Karen. She is such an inspiration to everyone she meets! And I finish off the show with a inspirational quote for you to think about. Please share my podcast with all your running friends and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts from that we are on. Welcome to 2018 and thank you for being a part of Endurance for Everyone and teamE4E! Is sugar going the way of tobacco, and why do some insist on pushing sweeteners as a "healthy" alternative to sugar usage. After a short football geeking out John and Rob discuss why sugar seems to be an issue still with some people, not in its use but in its ability to turn some people into zealots. The bottom line is that your body is much like a computer; you put garbage in you are going to get garbage out. It all starts with food, and even if you are lucky enough to not show outward signs of damage, what you eat DOES affect you. The discussion also starts with the use of treadmills, and indoor training in general and how it can both aid and hurt you when training for a race. A "Hash Race"? What is that?? If you are not already a member of the group head on over to Facebook and check us out. If you have a chance please share the show with someone and leave us a review wherever you are listening to this. teamE4E Gear is always available at Squadlocker

Finally! It's the hashing episode... with special guest Sweetheart, aka Philip Ralph (if you're wondering why he has a nickname all is explained). Hash House Harriers are all over the world (self-styled as "drinking clubs with a running problem") and drinking is a BIG part of the draw. As a long time hasher David (aka Princess) tries to explain to Jody (aka Jody) the appeal of hashing and brings in his pal Philip (aka Sweetheart) to explain all. The guys talk about the origins of hashing, what actually happens on a hash and whether Jody would be an absolutely idiot to attempt to come hashing and risk being given a hideously offensive nickname. Jody remains wholly skeptical of the whole thing throughout, while "Princess" and "Sweetheart" try to convince him of the fun communal aspect of hashing. If you want to get involved then join the Facebook group! Simply search Bad Boy Running Podcast and then request to join the group. You can also e-mail us on letters@badboyrunning.com You can also follow us on Twitter: Jody is @UltrarunnerJody, David is @DavidHellard and the joint account is @BadBoyRunning1 Finally don't forget to SUBSCRIBE if you want to be constantly updated whenever a new Podcast becomes available!
Bisittare: Louise Epstein Producent: Anders Diamant anders.diamant@sr.se
