Why is voluntourism so bad? And how can you join the Chapters for Change readathon? All this and more in our brand new episode with special guest, Human & Hope Founder and CEO SALLY HETHERINGTON!About Sally: In 2011, at 25, Sally Hetherington bought a one-way ticket to Cambodia. She found that voluntourism was causing harm, deepening local poverty.Sally supported a team in Cambodia to develop Human and Hope Association Cambodia (HHA Cambodia). They built a community centre in rural Siem Reap, and developed the locally run organisation to help locals lift themselves out of poverty.Sally achieved her goal of becoming redundant. HHA Cambodia is now entirely run by local Cambodian staff, with no foreign staff, volunteers or board members. This led her to write her first book ‘It's Not About Me', highlighting the negative impact of voluntourism on local communities in Cambodia and globally. She was awarded an Order of Australia medal at age 33.Episode available now!Of the Publishing Persuasion is a podcast for writers at all stages, shedding light on the journey to publication and beyond. Have we become so focused on what we enjoy that we've lost sight of what we're called to do? In this sermon, we'll dig into how easy it is for churches to turn inward, focusing more on personal preferences than on our true mission: serving others. “Not About Me” challenges us to shift our focus from ourselves to those around us, just as Jesus did. We'll explore what it means to live for others and why that's the heart of our Biblical Christianity. This message is a wake-up call to realign our lives and our churches with God's purpose. Join us to rediscover the joy of living for others and be inspired to make a difference in our community. Let's make church about what it was always meant to be—helping others experience extraordinary life in Jesus Christ. We are so quick to filter everything though the "ME" category and by so doing we create a lot of angst, anxiety, stress, and fear in our lives. We also miss out on being able to see or understand what might really be going on. In this episode, I share ways to recognize that we're diving into the "ME" category and how to gently shift to the "NOT ABOUT ME" category. This is such a relevant topic that will be a huge benefit in your life and in your relationships. When you're ready, tune in with LDS Life Coach, Hannah Coles.
If you don't sell anything - you don't have a business. Most small business owners avoid sales and so their businesses stay small. So how can we be systematically proactive in sales - and not have it get super awkward all the time. Well, I have a treat for you this week...In today's episode, Carole Mahoney compares the sales process to driving a car. Remember, you're at the wheel, but it's the buyer setting the pace. Carole offers really practical nsights on not taking rejection personally, focusing on buyer needs with a 'not about me' mantra. We dived deep into the red flags in your sales pipeline, the art of proactive prospecting, and the sheer importance of sales for your business success. If you're battling the discomfort of pitching or sales conversion, this is the episode that will shift your mindset and sharpen your skills, all whilst maintaining that crucial authentic connection with your clients. Some of the key themes we covered. ⭐️ Comparing sales process to driving ⭐️ Personal nature of small business selling ⭐️ Identifying red flags in sales pipeline ⭐️ Proactive prospecting in business ⭐️ Transitioning casual conversation to sales ⭐️ Overcoming sales-related fear and misconceptionsAbout CaroleComing from a long line of entrepreneurs, the surprising, real story of Carole Mahoney is that she used to hate sales - that is, until she taught herself how to change her mindset. She grew up in a family that taught her that the key to business growth is the experience a buyer has with a business. But, when set out in sales herself, she made all the same mistakes most sales professionals make - she made it all about herself and found it difficult to get traction with buyers. Rather than throwing in the towel and getting a traditional 9-5, Carole shifted her mindset and transformed her marketing agency into a thriving sales coaching agency. Using her passion for growing small businesses and improving success for business owners and sales professionals, Carole now shares her hard-won perspectives with audiences across the country as a trusted author, keynote speaker, and sales mentor. Carole recognized that a "me first" mentality was damaging the success of sales professionals and their reputation with buyers. Developing and using data and scientific research, she has proven time and again how invaluable a "Not About Me" approach is to sales performance and industry integrity. The author of the hot new release book Buyer First, Carole has been called the "Sales Therapist" by a Harvard Business School professor, where she coaches on sales for the Entrepreneurial MBA program. She is also the Chair of the Boston Emblaze, been named as a top sales influencer by LinkedIn and Sales Hacker, and voted a top sales coach by Ambition. As the founder of Unbound Growth, she uses sales specific data gathered from over 2.2 million sales professionals to determine what it takes to be a great seller or leader, and combines that with the behavioral research of how we change behaviors. This science and data backed process helps uncertain sales and business leaders reduce the guesswork out of hiring the right salespeople and cuts their hiring time and costs in half with a 91 % success rate. With custom sales training and coaching programs salespeople and managers have gone from on plan to consistently achieving 130-160% of quota in less than 6 months with a 98% annual customer retention rate." Carole is passionate about helping small businesses (and gardens) grow and giving sales professionals the tools they need to achieve success in their industry. This week we are highlighting one of the conversations from MMA's 87th Annual Convention held at the Augusta Civic Center, October 4 & 5, 2023. This year's convention theme was "Lead, Motivate, Communicate" and featured dynamic speakers like Leila Brammer, Director of Outreach and Instructional Development of the Parrhesia Program for Public Discourse, University of Chicago on "Civic Leadership and the Imperative of Effective Communication" and Yellow Light Breen, President & CEO, Maine Development Foundation on "Leading for Economic Innovation and Prosperity", and an uplifting reminder of why we serve local government and how to not despair in these unprecedented times with a presentation from Ron Holifield, Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Government Resources and former City Manager, "It's Not About Me, It's Not About Now". An elections update session was one of many offered and provided by Julie Flynn, Deputy Secretary of State, Maine Secretary of State. In this episode we chat with Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows about security issues facing Maine's town and city clerks this election season on the convention floor. The audio quality is not the best, and for this we apologize but the message is still important and one we think is worth a listen.

Carole Mahoney is an author, speaker, coach, and trainer taking a cognitive approach to sales success. In this episode, Carole shares how salespeople should initiate a pricing conversation that should be 'Not Be About Me' and quantify the cost of not doing something. That way, buyers make a decision for fear of negative business impact. What you will learn from this episode: Discover a powerful pricing conversation technique that focuses on addressing potential objections and inspires people to take action by tapping into their fears of negative outcomes Find out how salespeople add value and uncover urgency for people to make a decision Understand why salespeople need to create a ‘dirty laundry list' and include them in their conversation "The biggest piece of advice for finding value in a conversation and talking about pricing is to make it a collaborative conversation." - Carole Mahoney Topics Covered: 01:30 - How she found a career in pricing 02:20 - Salespeople find it uncomfortable talking about money and pricing matters 03:46 - Pricing conversation that's more about contrasting and quantifying the cost of doing nothing 06:36 - Not articulating enough the fear of loss 07:49 - Letting buyers articulate the real problem [and getting them to ask these important questions] 08:36 - The Seinfeld-comedy-series inspired technique of pricing conversation 10:16 - Adding value and uncovering urgency 11:30 - Creating a dirty laundry list 14:17 - What makes it advantageous for salespeople to share their laundry list amongst themselves 15:48 - Providing measurable business value while addressing potential negative outcomes 16:59 - Creating a constant reminder to salespeople with a t-shirt that reads: Not About Me 20:43 - Pricing advice that can have the biggest impact in one's business Key Takeaways: "If selling is an exchange of value, then the pricing conversation is the proof of value actually exists." - Carole Mahoney "Ask questions that address why they might say no, not why they might say yes, you need both. You need to be able to draw the contrast." - Carole Mahoney "It's not necessarily the salesperson's job to make it painful to the buyer. It's the salesperson's job to ask the questions to uncover if the pain to the buyer is great enough to take action, to make a decision and then to implement a solution." - Carole Mahoney People / Resources Mentioned: Buyer First: Grow Your Business with Collaborative Selling by Carole Mahoney: www.unboundgrowth.com/buyer-first-book Connect with Carole Mahoney: LinkedIn: https://www.unboundgrowth.com/ Website: https://www.unboundgrowth.com/ Connect with Mark Stiving: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stiving/ Email: mark@impactpricing.com

Before the interview, Chris and Rachel connect with Michaela Ball, the Audio Engineer of Talking with Tech. Michaela shares about how she got connected with the podcast and why she reached out to help several years ago. Chris, Rachel, and Michaela discuss some of their thoughts about Jordan Zimmerman's documentary, This is Not About Me https://thisisnotaboutme.film/ and talk about the importance of giving AAC users the time they need to finish communicating. Chris and Rachel challenge listeners to wait for Jordyn to respond in this episode rather than fast forwarding as a way to practice giving an AAC user the wait time they need. Key Ideas this Week:

This week Pastor Justin talks about choosing the lesser blessing to experience God's greater glory! You can now see on our Youtube Channel by following this link: Lesser Blessing (Mind Space Pt 10) Important Points: I will Remind Myself it's Not About Me! I will Die to Myself to Share in His Glory! To experience God's Greater Glory I will choose the Lesser Blessing! Important Scriptures (NLT version unless stated otherwise): John 3:22-36 Colossians 3:2-4 Romans 8:17 John 13:18-21 Jeremiah 29:11
As we continue to consider what it means to embrace a life that's “Not About ME” our focus shifts just a bit once more. We've explored the questions of who we will trust with our lives and futures, and then who we will trust with our stuff. Today we will begin asking “Who or what will we trust with our HEARTS?” Jesus made it pretty clear how to always know where a person's heart is. He said that it will always be right where our treasure is found. Hearts and treasures go together. Always! Some things in life are worthy of our hearts; sadly, because of the nature of our treasures, all too often we have entrusted and entangled our hearts with things that are definitely unworthy. Hopefully today's message will make you think about your treasures and your heart, and how people will remember you when they sit around the potato salad.Do you have prayer requests? Today's message finds us shifting a bit in our theme. We've been asking “Who will I trust with my life, my future?” As we continue to think about what it means that life is NOT ABOUT ME and NOT ABOUT NOW, the next question we will be asking for a few weeks is “Who will I trust with my stuff?” In a culture where our stuff tends to define/motivate/possess us--how can we be reformed in such a way as to turn our attention away from ourselves to the very obvious needs of others? How can I learn to see beyond myself? If you really want the answer, keep listening! Find more messages from WACC here: https://wacconline.org/media Do you have prayer requests? God loves you and wants you to be happy, right? I should have also mentioned in the recording that God gives us joy, which differs from happiness. Happiness is fleeting, self centered and based on circumstances. Joy is just straight up, unshakable goodness from the Lord. Here you can find the book, “Missionary Methods”. An extract from 'Good Girls do Sell' CHAPTER 2 - Confidence is the Key You Mean It's Not About Me? “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.” Rick Warren Rather than focussing on negative perceptions around the fear of being rejected when in the selling process, ask yourself instead – if you were your customer, What's in it for ME? Why would I want your product or service? I want you to write W.I.I.F.M. in big letters somewhere you can see this daily. Every time you are about to make a sales call, think W.I.I.F.M. Remembering all the time that the ME is your customer and not yourself. The benefits of delving deep into W.I.I.F.M. is that you will understand the concept that you aren't really selling anything, you are creating an opportunity for people to buy what they want, what they need from you that wouldn't be possible if you hadn't presented your product. How often have you had a situation where you have caught up with someone you have met and they have just spent money on a product or service that you offer but they didn't think of coming to you because they weren't clear on what you could offer? Even though you are positive you have told them about your product or service in the past. One of the foremost mistakes I see made by entrepreneurs is they try to sell their product or service without any genuine understanding of what the clients' needs might be. https://www.linkedin.com/in/janeenvospersalesprofessionalpresentingconfidencecoach/ https://www.facebook.com/speechperfect/ https://www.instagram.com/speechperfect/ https://twitter.com/VosperJaneen

For more than 50 years, famed photographer Greg Gorman has been shooting some of the biggest names in Hollywood — Al Pacino, Barbra Streisand, Elton John — and his portraits are some of the most iconic in the world. Gorman has worked on groundbreaking movie sets (“Scarface,” “Tootsie”) while also shooting covers for magazines such as Interview and Life. Gorman tells host Giselle Fernandez that his secret to success is getting inside the heads of the people he shoots and making a lasting connection with them. He has put the best of his work in his latest book “It's Not About Me!” and discovered other passions along the way besides photography — such as fishing, teaching and learning about wine.
