He ran creative for the world's biggest advertising group. Then his own recommendation to the board cost him the job, and he sold every share he owned the same week.In this episode, John O'Keeffe explains how he took WPP from a "creative desert" to seven straight years as Creative Holding Company of the Decade, why recommending Mark Read to succeed Martin Sorrell as CEO turned out to be his biggest mistake, and what happened when Read undercut him in front of the entire company. He also makes the case for why AI can execute a creative idea at any scale but cannot originate one, using Compare the Market's meerkat campaign as proof, and reflects on the campaigns he's most proud of, including Keep Walking for Johnnie Walker and an Audi ad voted best in the world. You will learn why creative leaders sometimes cost themselves their own jobs through the people they vouch for, what AI can and cannot do in marketing right now, and why standing for a specific idea beats chasing every trend.Send us Fan Mail Is your strategy still right in 2026? In this episode, SpiritBird sits down with John O'Connor — author and Boston College professor whose book A Short, Strange Trip traces the strange history behind psychedelic culture, the famous experiment in La Chorrera that inspired Terence McKenna's work, and the complicated relationship between psychedelics, mysticism, belief, healing, and human psychology — for an honest, nuanced conversation about the part of psychedelics most people avoid talking about: the meaning people attach to extraordinary experiences, and the very human desire to find transformation, healing, and truth. What you might not expect is why the medicine itself isn't the whole story.Learn more about John O'Connor and his work: https://www.johnmoconnor.com/What if the medicine isn't what heals you — but what happens around the medicine is?The psychedelic doesn't do the work. In A Short, Strange Trip, author John O'Connor explores the mystical legacy of Terence McKenna to look beyond the "cheerleaderism" of the modern psychedelic renaissance. By journeying from the Amazon to American subcultures, O'Connor reveals how raw curiosity cultivates the deep connection and community necessary for true human understanding. Key Takeaways Psychedelic therapy is not a standalone solution: Based on his father's experience, O'Connor emphasizes that psychedelic interventions require deliberate preparation and integration to work, warning against the uncritical "cheerleaderism" prevalent in mainstream media. Terence McKenna laid the groundwork for the modern psychedelic renaissance: O'Connor's book, A Short, Strange Trip, chronicles McKenna's 1971 expedition to the Colombian Amazon, framing him as a foundational yet frequently overlooked figure in psychedelic history. Field-based journalism bridges cultural divides: By directly engaging with subcultures like from Bigfoot researchers to Indigenous leaders in the Amazon, O'Connor proves how immersive, genuine reporting fosters connection and nuanced understanding across the many subcultures of humanity. More From Our Guest John O'Connors website: https://www.johnmoconnor.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/centerforhighenergymetaphysics Find his book, A Short, Strange Trip, on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or bookshop.org Chapters 00:00:00 Intro and Guest Introduction00:05:18 From Travel Writing to Bigfoot00:08:53 Belief, Myths, and Psychedelics00:19:21 Bigfoot, Wilderness, and Longing00:29:05 McKenna's Amazon Journey00:36:43 Discovering Terrence McKenna00:40:59 A Father's Search for Healing00:50:06 La Chorrera in Person00:59:53 Journalism, Responsibility, and Community01:05:32 Psychedelic Futures and RegulationThis podcast is edited by Chad Eschman. Psychedelic Passage is your partner in safe, supported, and effective psychedelic journeys.  EPISODE DESCRIPTION I sat down with John O'Connor from RealFi to dig into one of the most overlooked problems in crypto , the fact that the $350 billion sitting in stablecoins is doing almost nothing for the people who hold it. Tether and Circle pocket the yield while you hold a digital dollar that just sits there. John walks me through exactly how RealFi flips that model, channeling your stable coins directly into real world credit markets and passing the returns back to you. We talk about USDR and sUSDR, how they manage liquidity risk and redemptions, why DeFi security is an existential threat right now, and why John actually wants RealFi to be called boring. We also get into the future of decentralised neo-banking in emerging markets, what lessons he carried over from his time as the first hire at Cardano, and why product market fit today matters more than a promised roadmap. DISCLAIMERNothing mentioned in this podcast is investment advice and please do your own research.  First Harvest at the ThresholdWe have been building toward this week for a month. Three great cycles named and tracked. Jupiter weaving through all three. The Sun following. This week they culminate, not in abstract outer planet contacts alone, but in the most personal luminaries available. The Sun and Moon activating all three great cycles simultaneously at Wednesday's Full Moon. And at the end of the week, the ancient Celtic festival of Lammas arrives, the first harvest. The earth's own wisdom confirming what the sky is saying. Something has been growing. It is time to begin gathering what it has produced.Key Cycles This Week:Monday, July 27: Sun in Leo trines Neptune in Aries and sextiles Uranus in Gemini. Lunar Nodes change signs: North Node enters Aquarius, South Node enters Leo.The Sun opens the week touching two of the three great cycles in flowing alignment. Vision becoming feelable. Sudden clarity about what is genuinely new in how you understand yourself and the world. On the same day the Lunar Nodes shift, an eighteen-month change in the direction of collective evolution. North Node in Aquarius calls the collective toward genuine community, collective intelligence, and the kind of power that arises from interconnection rather than concentrated authority. With Pluto already moving through Aquarius, the North Node arriving here deepens and confirms that direction.South Node in Leo asks what we are integrating and moving beyond, not Leo's genuine gifts of authentic creative expression and open-hearted generosity, but its shadow. The over-reliance on individual performance. The hunger for recognition that substitutes for genuine contribution. The leadership organized around the singular charismatic figure rather than the nourishment of the collective field. Where have I been performing rather than genuinely contributing? That is the South Node question.Wednesday, July 29: Venus in Virgo squares Mars in Gemini. Full Moon at 6 degrees of Aquarius conjunct Pluto, opposing Jupiter in Leo, sextile Neptune in Aries, trine Uranus in Gemini. Venus in Virgo's careful tending meets Mars in Gemini's speed and variety in friction. There may be tension between what you need in order to feel genuinely attended to and what the pace of the moment is actually offering. Name that honestly rather than adapting around it.And then the Full Moon, the culmination of everything this arc has been building toward. The luminaries activating all three great cycles simultaneously. Conjunct Pluto in Aquarius: what is ready to be released and transformed at the root, not only personally but collectively; what systems and inherited structures of power are ready to be genuinely transformed? Sextile Neptune: vision and inspiration present alongside the reckoning, the imaginal field open to what genuinely new collective life might look like. Trine Uranus in Gemini: something that has been building for weeks finds its moment of sudden clear arrival. The Full Moon falling on the newly activated nodal axis, North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo, the luminaries holding the direction of collective evolution in their light. This is not only an ending. It is a revelation. Pay attention to what you see. And ask honestly how what is being illuminated wants to be offered in service of the larger web rather than the personal story.Saturday, August 1: Lammas. In the ancient Celtic tradition, Lammas is the festival of first harvest, the midpoint between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox, when the first fruits of the growing season are ready to be gathered. The body knows this threshold even when the mind has forgotten it.The particular quality of this Lammas, held within the nodal shift toward Aquarius, asks a specific question. Not only what has ripened in you, but what has ripened that belongs to the larger field. The first harvest in earth-based tradition was never only personal abundance. It was shared. Brought to the community. Offered in gratitude to the web of life that made the growing possible.Name what has ripened. Hold it with gratitude. And begin asking how it wants to be offered as genuine contribution to the larger web.Larger FrameThe direction confirmed this week is toward Aquarius. Toward genuine community. Toward the collective intelligence that arises when individual gifts are offered in service of the whole rather than hoarded for personal recognition. The breakdown of dominator systems continues. The reckoning is not complete. But something has moved, in you, in the collective field, in the long arc of what is being born. An elder perspective does not require the completion of the transformation to recognize the reality of the harvest.Name what has ripened. Ask how it wants to serve. Trust the arc, even from inside it, even when its end is not yet visible.Reflection QuestionsAs the Lunar Nodes shift into Aquarius and Leo, where is the invitation to move from performing your gifts toward genuinely offering them in service of something larger than the personal story? What is the Full Moon illuminating that has been quietly present but not yet fully seen?At Lammas, what is the first fruit of your own long growing during this threshold time, and how does it want to be shared rather than kept?Podcast poem: For the Artist at the Start of the Day by John O'DonohueIf the depth of these cycles is stirring something in you, a desire for grounded support in understanding how they are moving through your own unique chart, I offer astrology sessions designed for exactly that. You can find the link to schedule under "What's Open Now" at my website  ontheedgesofchange.com.Support the showGo to Sheila's website for information for transformational resources: https://www.ontheedgesofchange.comThis episode was co-created with generative AI, engaged as a soul-aligned ally in service of transformation. Most leaders spot rudeness or a toxic workplace and rush to shut the behavior down. But incivility is often a symptom of stress, burnout, and something deeper nobody names.Dr. Mira Brancu sat down as a guest on Dr. John O'Brien's show, Civility Matters, and this is the full conversation. They get into why punishing rude behavior usually backfires, and how to tell the difference between the symptom you can see and the root cause you cannot. Mira breaks down organizational grief, the quiet loss people carry after layoffs and reorgs that shows up as disengagement, quiet quitting, and cynicism instead of tears. You will also hear her simple two by two office politics matrix that reveals whether your influence at work has turned self-serving, whether ambition and civility can actually coexist, and real advice for anyone stuck in a toxic job right now. The point they both keep coming back to is this: Leaders have to deal with their own stress first, because you cannot steady anyone else while you are running on empty.Subscribe for weekly conversations on leadership, burnout, and workplace mental health.Connect with Dr. John O'Brien : www.activatesuccess.orgLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnmobrienphd/Host: Civility Matters Podcast: https://civilitymatters.buzzsprout.comRudeness Rehab Book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1957651911?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallback YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@RudenessRehab Subscribe to my free newsletter at: mailchi.mp/2079c04f4d44/subscribeWork with me one-on-one: calendly.com/mira-brancu/30-minute-initial-consultationConnect with me on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/MiraBrancuLearn more about my services: www.gotowerscope.comGet practical workplace politics tips from my books: gotowerscope.com/booksGet my free Strategic Clarity and Leadership Resilience assessment: https://mailchi.mp/e1ebf8505764/slr-assessment Get my Free Burnout Root Cause Assessment: https://mailchi.mp/29d7d18fae4a/burnout-root-cause-assessmentGet my Workplace Grief Guide: https://mailchi.mp/46873b910380/workplace-grief-field-guide Find other free resources to support your leadership growth: https://gotowerscope.com/other-free-stuff Join the next Towerscope leadership workshop or fellowship: https://gotowerscope.com/fellowship

In their latest book, Captain: The Athlete's Guide to Being an Exceptional Team Leader. The book is broken into three parts:1. The qualities of team captains2. The responsibilities of team captains3. The ten biggest challenges that team captains faceThe book is designed as a workbook with stories from top athlete leaders and coaches and questions to work through after each short chapter. Victoria Taft delivers a masterclass in geopolitical realities and media manipulation. We break down Donald Trump's jaw-dropping "Dead Man's Switch" order to completely flatten Iran if their state-sponsored plots successfully target him, arriving right on the second anniversary of the Butler, Pennsylvania assassination attempt. We also share the staggering story of independent journalist Delicia Ballinger, who was summarily fired from a Memphis news publication for simply posting a video thanking Trump for sending the National Guard to quiet the violent gunshots in her neighborhood. Plus, we feature two world-class interviews: former UK Ambassador Edmond Fitton-Brown delivers an emergency Iran SITREP on autonomous drone boats and the collapsed Gulf ceasefire, and former federal prosecutor John O'Connor drops by to expose how the CIA and the Washington Post actively manufactured the Watergate scandal to take down Richard Nixon.

Mark Byford Mark Byford, the Bowler Hat Farmer, spent eight months and 12,500 miles touring the UK to meet the farmers, growers and producers fighting to bring real food back to our plates. He talks to Jackie about why 72% of our food is now imported, how farmers can turn a loss-making acre into a £30,000 one, and why eating seasonally and buying local could save British farming. Key Quote “We’re at that one minute to midnight. The clock’s either going to go one way or the other. If we don’t wake up very quick, we’re never going to see real food again.” — Mark Byford, The Bowler Hat Farmer About Mark Byford “Hi I’m Mark the Bowler Hat Farmer I’ve spent the past two years traveling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, visiting organic farms across the UK to explore innovative farming strategies. My passion for chemical-free food and sustainability.” Mark’s Top Tips Look after people on the way up, because you’ll need them on the way down. — advice Mark got from his old boss, Victor Kiam. “I’d rather earn 1% of 100 people’s efforts than 100% of my own.” — a quote from John Kalench that shaped how Mark thinks about collective change. Find out what makes you tick, then do good with that knowledge — Mark recommends reading The Secret. Watch the film Pay It Forward — Mark calls it the most life-changing film he’s seen; the idea being that doing good for others comes back around. EPISODE 33: A Masterclass In How To Die | Johno Verity Dying Laughing with Jessimae What if the secret to living well is learning how to die well? This week on Dying Laughing, Jessimae sits down with filmmaker, BMX rider, and accidental internet philosopher Johno Verity. Known for his cinematic videos of riding through the quiet streets of London before the rest of the world wakes up, Johno has built a devoted following by reminding people of something simple: put down your phone and go live your life. Together, they discuss the pursuit of baseline happiness, the importance of brain health, creativity, movement, and why so many of us have forgotten how to be present. Johno also opens up about losing both his stepfather and father, and the unexpected lessons grief has taught him about purpose, perspective, and what really matters. This is a conversation about mortality, mental health, adventure, and finding joy in the ordinary moments we're usually too distracted to notice. Because sometimes the best masterclass in how to live... comes from understanding how to die.

Are you building a champion — or just chasing a trophy? In this episode of Winners Find A Way, Coach Trent M. Clark sits down with John O'Sullivan, author, speaker, and founder of Changing the Game Project — one of the most influential voices in youth sports development today. John is a former Division I soccer player at Fordham University, a master's-level researcher, and the author of five books on youth sports, coaching, and athlete leadership. His work has been recognized by the US Olympic Committee and major sport governing bodies around the world. He co-hosts the Way of Champions podcast with Jerry Lynch — nearly 500 episodes with guests like Phil Jackson and Steve Kerr — and his latest book, Captain: The Athlete's Guide to Being an Exceptional Team Leader, is now available everywhere. This conversation covers the full landscape of what it actually takes to develop athletes — and what so many coaches and parents get wrong. John and Trent dig into the difference between information and knowledge, why curiosity is the number one trait of elite coaches, and how the "me culture" of college sports is trickling down to youth programs. They talk about parents, pressure, social media, NIL, and the moment a coach stops talking to an athlete — and what that silence really means. This episode is a reminder that winners are not people who never face setbacks. Winners are the ones who learn, adjust, lead, and find a way. In This Episode, We Discuss: Why the best coaches in the world share one common trait — curiosity What John's new book Captain teaches athletes about leading from any position How the "me culture" in college sports trickles down and why kids struggle to transition to team-first environments What scouts actually ask about when they watch your kid play The real role of parents in youth sports — and how to be the fan your child needs Why coachability is a decision, not a personality trait The inner voice: how to train the coach inside your head Individual sports vs. team sports — and why every athlete should experience both Key Takeaways ✨ Curiosity is the common denominator of elite coaches John has interviewed Hall of Famers, Olympians, and championship coaches for nine years. Every single one is still curious. The ones who plateau decided they already know everything. ✨ Great teammates are always in demand Scouts don't just watch the stats. They ask: How does this kid treat the worst player on the team? Character traits like humility, coachability, and selflessness are skills — and they carry into every team you'll ever be part of. ✨ When a coach stops talking to you, the end is near Coaches invest their energy where it counts. Three "yeah buts" and they redirect to athletes who are coachable and worth the oxygen. ✨ Train the voice in your head The late Jim Lehr said it best: the most influential coach in your life is the voice inside your head. If that voice was a person, would you be friends with them? ✨ Begin with the end in mind Before signing your kid up for a travel team, ask: What do I actually want sports to give them? Then find a coach and program that builds those things. This week on the podcast, we are doing a little something different. It's a conversation between JP Nerbun and John regarding the nearly simultaneous release of their new books on being a team captain and leader. Some people might think it interesting that authors with similar subjects would be collaborating on a book launch, but both of us do not believe in the scarcity mindset. The leadership space needs more books that are approachable for young athletes, high school athletes, and collegiate athletes, and we approach the topic differently. JP comes from a fable/fictional approach, while John and Jerry are straight up non fiction. The two books together speak to many aspects of leadership, albeit in differnt ways.  J.P. Nerbun (@TOCCulture) is a bestselling author, leadership coach, and the founder of TOC Culture Consulting, a leading global sports consulting and leadership coaching business. His mission is to support leaders and their teams in achieving their full potential through 1:1 coaching, consulting, and community engagement. Nerbun's impressive expertise extends across various fields, including sports, education, healthcare, and business. He has a proven track record of guiding leaders at prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, Harvard University, the University of Texas, the USGA, PwC, and Chick-fil-A. In 2019, he published his first book, "Calling Up: Discovering Your Journey to Transformational Leadership," which received critical acclaim. In 2022, he released "The Culture System," a groundbreaking book that offers a framework for developing team culture. In 2023, he launched The Culture System Online Training Platform, which has received praise for being the most comprehensive online coach education platform available. His podcast, "Coaching Culture," is among the top sports leadership podcasts globally. His new book is called The Culture Captain and you can grab a copy here.
