Socialism is a secular religion with saints and holidays. The chief selling point is that it sells 'heaven on earth". This is a compelling selling point and one can understand why some cling to the ideology. It is a faith. It comforts. It gives a reason for suffering. It offers a way to a better world. It is however economic snake oil. Fundamentally socialism can not price things effectively and is therefore always doomed to eventual implosion. It lacks dynamism. It denies the dignity of the individual. It eventually destroys wealth and prosperity in absolute terms while empowering a class of government managers who act like an aristocracy. Only it's even worse than a heredity aristocracy, it's a aristocracy of busybodies, of planners, of bureaucrats. Socialism also tends to slip toward authoritarianism. There is a tendency to try to manage every minute detail of society. At it's worst socialism ends with the gulag or the starvation of tens of millions in places like the Ukraine and China. But it is a faith and its roots are deep. Many of us had hoped that we had ACTUALLY progressed past the ugliest type of socialism. Sadly however some seek to keep the religion alive. And many of these people are young people who given the carnage of the last century have no excuse for their infatuation. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nick-sorrentino/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-sorrentino/support
The implosion of Evergrande has been called China's Lehman moment. Is it? If the Chinese economy continues to wobble, or worse, will CCP leadership lash out militarily? If Taiwan is invaded (one day) would the USA enter into a war? We trail China in some areas of military tech, including in "carrier killer" tech, and China now also has the largest navy in the world. No child in this country should be hungry. Much of "food insecurity" can be solved privately, but we don't begrudge some single mother who is just trying to feed her children for using SNAP. But SNAP is big business for big food business. US taxpayers subsidize food for the poor , but this money ultimately goes to soda companies, and similar outfits. Lobbyists in Washington make sure that the products of their clients are on the SNAP list. These sugary foods then contribute to poor health outcomes for the poor. We the US taxpayer then must subsidize the healthcare of the these people who are ill. By so doing we are then also subsidizing the bottom line of large healthcare corporations. Also Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is from Iowa, corn country (think corn syrup) and a former Monsanto lobbyist. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nick-sorrentino/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-sorrentino/support

Biden want's you the taxpayer to spend another $3 trillion on "infrastructure", AKA a Democratic Party wish list of programs including federal funding of universal pre-school? Where will this money come from? Some will be debt. In the end it will all morph into debt. But taxes are going to go up too including (at this point - so who knows) couples making $200,000/year. ($400k was supposed to be the limit.) Dems also want to raise the corporate tax from 21% to 28% which is basically job suicide. The USA long had the highest corporate rates in the world and this chased away business. Now we are more competitive, but raising corporate rates (which are ultimately paid for by the consumer in one way or another) would set us way back. 2008 was an important point in the history of this country. Probably as important as 2001. It was in the Great Recessions that the American people saw the big shots abandon capitalism and anything like fair play in the marketplace to save their skins, while everyday people lost their homes. - The result? People blamed "capitalism" for this unfair situation and started to demand that government bail them out too. The thing is, bailouts are the exact opposite of capitalism, and it is the American taxpayers, the engine of American prosperity, who have paid for these bailouts anyway. (In more ways than one.) Are “fascism” and “socialism” just 2 sides of the same coin? Most people who read this website probably know where we land on this question. The two ideologies have the same father and are not really that different from one another. Both are collectivist dreams. Both venerate the state over the individual. Both are obsessed with works projects and managing the economy. Both see the ends as justifying the means. And yet by some bizarre accident (actually it's not really that much of an accident) of history fascism has somehow become associated with the “Right” and socialism with the “Left.” Part of the problem is that the terms “Right” and “Left” don't really make much sense. There are those who are for more statism and there are those who are for less statism. Both Nazis and Communists are for ever more power to the state. Those with a classically liberal drift are on the other end of the political spectrum (assuming we want to be intellectually honest). As Daniel Hannan points out below, one of the key differences between the two similar camps is that Hitler (and others) saw that it was just more efficient to keep the bourgeois factory owners and managers in place than to liquidate the entire class as they had in Soviet Russia. It wasn't like the factory owners and other business owners weren't under the thumb of the party vanguard post 1933, or that the industrialists even “owned” the Nazi Party. They were just kept on and co-opted in technocratic German style. The other key factor in differentiating between the fascists and the “socialists” was that Bolshevism was widely associated with the Jewish intelligentsia and Hitler of course despised the Jews. Hitler hated the Jews (tragically) even more than he hated bourgeois liberal republicanism and democracy and that is why they were the first to meet his wrath. (From The Telegraph) On 16 June 1941, as Hitler readied his forces for Operation Barbarossa, Josef Goebbels looked forward to the new order that the Nazis would impose on a conquered Russia. There would be no come-back, he wrote, for capitalists nor priests nor Tsars. Rather, in the place of debased, Jewish Bolshevism, the Wehrmacht would deliver “der echte Sozialismus”: real socialism. Goebbels never doubted that he was a socialist. He understood Nazism to be a better and more plausible form of socialism than that propagated by Lenin. Instead of spreading itself across different nations, it would operate within the unit of the Volk. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/nick-sorrentino/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-sorrentino/support
It seems that there is some consensus forming across right and left right now in reaction to ongoing violations of The Constitution: freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, freedom of movement, right to be secure in our person. I have been quite adamant about the massive mistake I think half of this country made by letting Biden into the White House. But in light of the fact that people like Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Naomi Wolf and others generally considered on the "left" are actively fighting the draconian government actions of the last year particularly, I offer my support - for what it is worth. I applaud these first leaders on this issue from the left. I am thankful for them and it will take both "right" and "left" and "libertarian" to turn this around. The Ron Paul Revolution, the TEA Party, Trump, now post-Trump have been different phases in this "war". Where have we seen this before? Times have changed. The great middle class of America is newly empowered with amazing new technological tools. The old order must give way. But as we have seen with the recent online censorship and with this week's screwing of small time investors at Robin Hood and other outlets, the establishment is not inclined to make a smooth exit. But the big guys didn't like losing so pressure was brought to limit (stop) trading in GameStop shares, thereby saving the bacon of the hedge funds - the big guys. This is similar to how the old media has sought to shut out voices from the new media recently. The old media, like the hedge funds think they deserve their privileged positions and that any resistance from the everyday person should be swiftly dealt with.
