The world (especially the online media world) is obsessed with all the aspects of shallow and fleeting connection. It trains you to chase variety and to see social connection through the lens of status. But shallow connections always leave you feeling empty and lonely, no matter how many people you're surrounded by. This applies to both platonic connections as well as romantic ones. In response to widespread dissatisfaction, we see a lot of complaining and entitlement.
