The Light Gate Welcomes GUEST: Paola “Poly” Rottermann Date: May 12, 2025 Time: 5-7 pm pacific / 8-10 pm eastern Episode 107 Discussion: The UFO/ET Experiences and Research of Poly Rottermann Tonight, “The Light Gate,” welcomes: experiencer, researcher, investigative journalist and podcaster, Paola (Poly) Rottermann. Poly was born in 1976 in South America (Bogota, Colombia) and is the eldest of four sisters. She studied in a French school in Bogota, where she learned both French and English. When she was seven years old, Poly experienced what she describes as a "download," after seeing a picture of an E.T. craft in a book. That day her research on the E.T. phenomenon started. She felt lonely in a city and family where no one talked about non-human intelligence. Poly soon began to have recurrent experiences during her sleep, where she was taken inside a craft to be part of what appears to be a hybridization program. After graduating from school, Poly received a B.A. in Journalism and Social Communication. At the age of 21, she left Colombia and went to live in Israel in 1999. Her sightings started about three years ago, together with her son. Poly shares E.T. content in many social media platforms around the world, and in the last year she became a member of the UFO MAN Podcast Team in YouTube. You can find her content on Facebook groups such as “Bob Lazar and Beyond,” “UFO/UAP Disclosure Australia,” “NHI Realities, Ascension and Beyond,” “UFO Man Nation,” and more. One of her favorite sayings is: “One second it takes, for your life to break. Life must fly, as a Dragon in the sky.” LINKS: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@PolyRottermann Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/paola.rottermann Facebook UFO MAN: https://www.facebook.com/groups/708136426487929 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/polyrottermann/

Hey there fellow Dog Geek Extraordinaires. A bit of stray off our, well-trodden, dog training and behaviour path today. We invited the wonderful Professor Alex Conner (co-author of ADHD Unpacked and co-host of the ADHD Adults Podcast) onto the podcast. For a while now we've been planning on having a conversation that advocates for compassion and understanding in what it must be like for neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with ADHD diagnosis, navigating a neurotypical world. We also thought it might be helpful to understand how ADHD might impact both trainers and people who might be attending classes or 121's. What unfolded was a fascinating conversation that enabled us to delve into the complexities of ADHD, discussing its impact on communication and relationships, emphasizing the importance of understanding and supporting one another within our relationships and communities. We get to explore the intricate relationship between dog training and ADHD, delve into the parallels in understanding behaviour, the importance of environment and the need for emotional acceptance. We find out how dog body language can inform our understanding of ADHD, the impact of genetics versus environment, and the challenges faced by individuals with ADHD in various settings. Alex effortlessly and expertly addresses misconceptions about ADHD and the societal perceptions that contribute to a stigmas. We hear how things people might take for granted, like the setting of boundaries and self-care, can be unique challenges faced by individuals with ADHD. We explore how personal experiences shape their understanding of self-worth and the importance of community support. Of course, we touch on the complexities of dog training, the nuances of behaviour, and the importance of understanding both dogs and humans and the significance of empathy in fostering connections. On top of all that top notch audio goodness Nat and Steve talk about Alex's book, discuss the challenges of understanding neurodiversity, discuss the arrival of spring and the emotional connection they feel towards nature (particularly a sparrow named Dave). Steve also briefly flirts with the concept of utopia and it's potential pitfalls (through the lens of B F Skinner). We ramble about the importance of emotional awareness, the dynamics of social media, and the influence of culture on behaviour, all while introducing a BRAND NEW segment dedicated to a beloved figure in the bookshelver community…. Read the English and Spanish transcripts of this episode on the podcast website. In today's media landscape, especially in Latin America, the way companies communicate has evolved. Traditional approaches, where a company's brand takes center stage, are being joined by a new strategy: unbranded communication. This method enables organizations to share important messages and drive public opinion without a brand at the forefront. In this first Spanish-language episode of PRGN Presents, Loreley Maldonado, founder of Eje Comunicación in Mexico, talks with journalist Valentina Giacaman, founder of RumboCierto Comunicaciones in Chile about unbranded communication. At its core, unbranded communication is a strategic form of messaging that doesn't overtly promote a specific brand. It's commonly used in highly regulated industries like pharmaceuticals, energy, and food and beverages, where regulations prevent companies from directly advertising certain products or services. Instead, the focus shifts to promoting issues, policies, or public interest topics without overt commercial branding.Unbranded communication isn't new, but its impact is growing. It is powerful because it allows companies to bring topics to the forefront of public opinion without needing to place a brand behind them. It's an approach that lets businesses connect with audiences on critical issues in a more neutral, informative way.Key Takeaways Unbranded communication focuses on placing topics of interest in the public sphere without direct brand association. It is often used in regulated industries, such as pharmaceuticals, to advocate public health messages over direct product promotion. Media practices in Latin America have evolved, with decreased newsroom resources and changing marketing policies now requiring new forms of corporate communication. Unbranded communication should maintain high ethical standards, relying on factual information and expert collaboration to avoid misinformation. Unbranded communication requires thorough research and can take months to execute effectively; it is particularly aimed at long-term advocacy goals. About the Guests Valentina Giacaman is the founder of RumboCierto Comunicaciones in Santiago, Chile. RumboCierto is a communications firm with a strong local presence and significant global relationships, serving prestigious corporations, public institutions, foundations, and executives. Thomas Merton had, in his life, important experiences with women. His life and writings are impregnated by those feminine presences and influences who provoked strong reactions and emotions in his heart and mind. We will examine some aspects of his experience with the feminine, including his mother's premature death, the multiple girlfriends of his youth (whose names he would not even remember), as well as some friendships which were important in his Christian journey, such as Naomi Burton, Dorothy Day, and Catherine de Hueck. Merton's life as a monk was also configured by important feminine spiritual figures, including Mary, the mother of Jesus, Julian of Norwich, and others. We will also examine carefully the epiphany that represented Merton's love for the young nurse M., and conclude with a theological reflection about how Merton's experiences with the feminine influenced his writings and provide new insights into mystical experience and service to the Church.       Maria Clara Lucchetti Bingemer holds a degree in Social Communication from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1975), a Master's degree in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1985) and a PhD in Systematic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (1989). She is currently a full professor in the Department of Theology at PUCRio. For ten years she ran the Loyola Faith and Culture Center at the same University. For four years, she was an evaluator of graduate programs at the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). For six years, she was dean of the Center for Theology and Human Sciences at PUC-Rio. She has experience in the area of Theology, with an emphasis on Systematic Theology, focusing mainly on the following themes: God, otherness, woman, violence and spirituality. In the last few years, she has been researching and publishing on the thought of the French philosopher Simone Weil. Nowadays, her studies and research are primarily directed towards the thinking and writing of contemporary mystics and the interface between Theology and Literature.

We need to step back and wait so that the child has a chance to find their voice, whatever that looks like so that they can spontaneously and independently connect with us.Dr. Jamie Hughs-Lika is a BCBA-D, an Early Start Denver Model Certified Therapist, and has been working in the field for 26 years. We discussed what you can do when social engagement is difficult with your child or students and why is it so important to work on this skill.Social engagement and attention begin as early as infancy, with eye contact and small coos from your baby. When this isn't present, and the pattern of limited social engagement continues, Dr. Hughs-Lika says differences in social attention are one of the first early signs of autism. Children with autism are less motivated to engage socially, and Dr. Hughs-Lika covers the three pillars of social motivation:Social Orientation: This is responding to communication and social attention with eye contact, gestures, etc.Social Seeking: This is initiating communication through gestures, imitation, showing toys or items, etc.Social Maintaining: This is ‘maintaining' a social connection through turn-taking and social reciprocity. Dr. Hughs-Lika is also an autism mom and shares a little about her journey for connection with her son Liam. When she works with him and other children she “takes a pulse” of the interaction with these questions. What captures the child's attention? What are the distractions?Where are the motivations? How close can I get to maintaining comfort in the activities? Are there interfering behaviors that are becoming inflexible or rigid?Social communication is the cornerstone of more advanced communication. Having fun, being positive, and building a personal connection with your child are important strategies for working on social engagement and communication. During our discussion, we talked about the assessments available, Dr. Hughs-Lika's courses, and the nuance of working on this critical skill. We received A TON of questions after our two-part episode on The Social Communication Bridge®. So, we decided to record a BONUS episode and answer some of them! In this bonus episode, Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum answers the following questions: (0:38) Because children with SM are not speaking, shouldn't the emphasis be on helping them to speak, perhaps even offering incentives to speak? (6:37) My son's clinician felt strongly that if we allowed him to use a verbal intermediary or whisper buddy, we were enabling him... (9:38) Since Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder, shouldn't lowering anxiety be enough to propel them into speech? (14:25) When we think about “the bridge” and “the Whys of SM,” it makes sense that Selective Mutism is a social communication anxiety disorder. Do you feel that if others saw it this way, more individuals would overcome their mutism? (18:23) Can you give some examples of how you would determine an individual's beginning stage of communication? (22:49) My 10-year-old child is truly stuck in nonverbal with kids and teachers, even kids he's known for years. We've tried everything: rewards, even a trip to Disney. We are at a loss. We've seen five therapists and he seems to have only gotten more stuck. Any advice? (30:37) My child progressed across the bridge at CommuniCamp (!), but now, a few weeks later, they are no longer in stage 3. How can I get them back to being verbal like they were at camp? (35:19) My child has begun making animal sounds in social environments but he will not speak. How can I get him to use his words? (41:39) My teenage daughter will communicate with others through written responses. She will even initiate with her teachers and peers through writing. However, she will not speak to them. What can I do to help transition her from written communication to verbal communication? (48:10) My child is completely nonverbal and non-communicative in any setting outside of the home. He is very expressive and loud at home. What should I do to make him able to communicate effectively in other environments? Ask Dr. E any questions you may have from the episode. When independent filmmakers, activists, and amateurs document the struggle for rights, representation, and revolution, they instrumentalize images by advocating for a particular outcome. Ryan Watson calls this "militant evidence." In Radical Documentary and Global Crises: Militant Evidence in the Digital Age (Indiana UP, 2021), Watson centers the discussion on extreme conflict, such as the Iraq War, the occupation of Palestine, the war in Syria, mass incarceration in the United States, and child soldier conscription in the Congo. Under these conditions, artists and activists aspire to document, archive, witness, and testify. The result is a set of practices that turn documentary media toward a commitment to feature and privilege the media made by the people living through the terror. This footage is then combined with new digitally archived images, stories, and testimonials to impact specific social and political situations. Radical Documentary and Global Crises re-orients definitions of what a documentary is, how it functions, how it circulates, and how its effect is measured, arguing that militant evidence has the power to expose, to amass, and to adjudicate. An interdisciplinary collection in the new field of environmental humanities, Chinese Environmental Ethics: Religions, Ontologies, and Practices (Rowman and Littlefield, 2021) brings together Chinese environmental ethics, religious ontology, and religious practice to explore how traditional Chinese religio-environmental ethics are actually put into social practice both in China's past and present. It also examines how Chinese religious teachings offer a wealth of resources to the environmental project of forging new ontologies for humans co-existing with other living beings. Different chapters examine how: Buddhist ontology avoids anthropocentrism, fengshui (Chinese geomancy) can help protect the landscape from economic development, popular religion organizes tree-planting, ancient dream interpretation practices avoided constructing the possessive individual subjectivity of modern consumerism, Buddhist rituals and ethics promoted compassion for animals and modern recycling, Confucian ancestor rituals and tombs have deterred industrial expansion, and also how Daoism's potential role to deter desertification in northern China was stymied by state operations in contemporary China. A significant advance in the field of Chinese environmental anthropology, the outstanding scholars in this volume provide a unique and much needed contribution to the scholarship on China and the environment. Nowhere on Earth is there an ecological transformation so swift and so extreme as between the snow line of the high Andes and the tropical rainforest of Amazonia. Because of that, the different disciplines that research the human past in South America have tended to treat these two great subzones of the continent as self-contained enough to be studied independently of each other. Objections to that approach have repeatedly been raised, however, warning against imagining too sharp a divide between the people and societies of the Andes and Amazonia when there are clear indications of significant connections and transitions between them. Rethinking the Andes-Amazonia Divide. A Cross-Disciplinary Exploration (UCL Press, 2020) brings together archaeologists, linguists, geneticists, anthropologists, ethnohistorians, and historians to explore both correlations and contrasts in how the various disciplines see the relationship between the Andes and Amazonia, from deepest prehistory up to the European colonial period. This collaboration has emerged from an innovative program of conferences and symposia conceived to generate discussion and cooperation across the divides between disciplines. Adrian J. Experimenting with Ethnography: A Companion to Analysis (Duke University Press, 2021) collects twenty-one essays that open new paths for doing ethnographic analysis. The contributors —who come from a variety of intellectual and methodological traditions— enliven analysis by refusing to take it as an abstract, disembodied exercise. Rather, they frame it as a concrete mode of action and a creative practice. Encompassing topics ranging from language and the body to technology and modes of collaboration, the essays invite readers to focus on the imaginative work that needs to be performed prior to completing an argument. Whether exchanging objects, showing how to use drawn images as a way to analyze data, or working with smartphones, sound recordings, and social media as analytic devices, the contributors explore the deliberate processes for pursuing experimental thinking through ethnography. Practical and broad in theoretical scope, Experimenting with Ethnography is an indispensable companion for all ethnographers. Gustavo E. What is education? Most of the time, we have little patience for this question because we take the answer to be obvious: we identify education with school learning. This book focuses on education outside of the school context as a basis for criticizing and improving school learning. Following the examples of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and John Dewey, Arcilla seeks to harmonize schooling with a more pervasive education we are all naturally undergoing. He develops a philosophical theory of education that stresses the experience of being led out —a theory latent in the Latin term, “educere”— by examining the road movies of Wim Wenders. Wim Wenders's Road Movie Philosophy: Education Without Learning (Bloomsbury, 2020) contributes both to our understanding of another crucial kind of education our schooling could better serve, and to our appreciation of what unifies and distinguishes Wenders's achievements in cinema. René V. Arcilla is Professor of Philosophy of Education in the Steinhardt School of Education, at New York University Gustavo E. Gutiérrez Suárez is PhD candidate in Social Anthropology, and BA in Social Communication. His areas of interest include Andean and Amazonian Anthropology, Film theory and aesthetics.
