Join Jill and Dr. Nicole Avena, PhD, a pioneering neuroscientist and expert in nutrition, diet, and addiction for a discussion about sugar and the dangers it presents. "Many people blame sugar cravings on a lack of willpower rather than acknowledge that the substance is highly addictive - even more so than cocaine, nicotine, and alcohol. And the problem isn't only dessert; sugar is everywhere - approximately 80 percent of products in supermarkets contain sugar. No wonder eliminating it feels impossible: the more added sugar a person eats, even unknowingly, the more likely they are to crave it.In Sugarless, Dr. Nicole Avena teaches you how you can completely change your mindset around what you eat. You will no longer use food to soothe or reward yourself or be a victim of the addiction machine that our modern food environment has created. She will show you how to break away and to use food for what it is intended to be: fuel for your body."Can't stop popping those gummy bears? In 2008 I started a little mommy blog I named Scary Mommy. It was a place for me to get things off of my chest, write honestly about my kids and connect with other moms. It quickly gained a following of like-minded, hilarious, kind and generous women who became my tribe and my lifeline. Almost a decade later the website had grown into a media empire with millions of followers, a full staff and sudden monetization that blew my mind. It was exciting and it was thrilling and I was absolutely DROWNING. With my personal life unraveling, I made the decision to sell the company to a New York media start up, hoping the influx of funds, manpower and expertise would take the brand to levels beyond my capabilities. And it did… and also, it really really didn't. Scary Mommy has since been sold again after I left three years ago and now barely resembles the site I once considered my fourth baby. And after three pretty awful years I'm finally ok with that. Because the truth is, I'm not a Scary Mommy anymore. Who am I now? What do I want next? Well, that's what this podcast is all about and I'm betting you can relate. But for episode one, I'd like to tell the story of Scary Mommy... _____ © 2022 She's Got Issues She's Got Issues is produced by Gwynne Sound, Kristin Kalibri, Keira Shein & Jill Smokler For more information contact info@shesgotissues.com
