Alcohol. It's one of the most addictive drugs in America, and it's also the most socially acceptable one. How many times have you seen products or memes on social media promoting drinking "...because motherhood is hard"..."Mommy needs wine"....or "I wine because my kids whine". Everyone's relationship with alcohol is different -- but for those who really struggle with it, it can be a matter of life or death. Celeste Yvonne is the author of the book, "It's Not About The Wine: The Loaded Truth Behind Mommy Wine Culture" -- which explores why mothers are drinking more than ever, and how to break free; and this all comes from experience. Celeste's children were 1 and 3 years-old when she quit drinking. She described herself as a "gray area drinker" -- some days she could moderate her alcohol intake, but on a random day she didn't have the ability to turn the drinking off. This eye-opening conversation is one for the books, whether you're looking to evaluate your relationship to alcohol and motherhood or not. Celeste not only talks candidly about her sobriety and mental health, but she offers up some great advice on how moms everywhere can lighten their mental load in safe and effective way.-----------------------------------SHOW NOTES:Host: Nicole Nalepa | @NicoleNalepaTVGuest: Celeste Yvonne Instagram: @theultimatemomchallengeWebsite: https://www.celesteyvonne.com/

Alcohol was ever present in Jessie's childhood, to the point where it felt like she had two sets of parents: sober parents during the day, and drunk parents at night. Drinking affected each of her parents differently, though, and she was told from a young age that only her father had a drinking problem, because alcohol made him treat others poorly. Once Jessie started drinking at 14, she leaned on this assumption and never questioned her drinking. As a young adult, Jessie married to a man with an alcohol addiction and became pregnant. Postpartum Depression hit her hard upon having her son, and Mommy Wine Culture seeped in, leading her to rely on alcohol to cope when she didn't feel comfortable asking for help. As her son got older, though, she began to realize that she didn't want him to grow up in the same way she did, so she left her husband and tried to start anew. It wasn't until Jessie found herself single after a couple more relationships that she began to wonder if her own drinking was a problem. This question led her to the The Sober Mom Life Facebook group! After a long time of lurking, she posted in the group that she just wanted to be sober for one day. The support she got from the community was unexpected, beautiful, and overwhelming. That one day of sobriety turned into two days, which turned into a full week, which has now turned into 6 months of sobriety! Jessie believes she only succeeded in sobriety with community support. She wants you to know that it is okay to ask for help! If you're struggling in any way, whether it be with parenting, alcohol, or something else, you are safe to ask for help. Mommy wine culture is often viewed as a lighthearted joke—with moms turning to wine or a mimosa to cope with stressful parenting moments. And plenty of moms can enjoy an alcoholic beverage without falling into unhealthy patterns. But alcohol use isn't always lighthearted—for some moms, there are mental health concerns that are being overlooked and coping mechanisms that aren't healthy. This week on The Momwell Podcast, I'm joined by Amanda White, author of Not Drinking Tonight and founder of Therapy for Women Center. We discuss the drawbacks of mommy wine culture, the differences between healthy and unhealthy alcohol use, and the mental health concerns of motherhood. In today's episode, we have Hadley, who speaks about her first drink at 14 and how it would remain complicated until quitting at 41. As life progressed so did the drinking from the binge drinking culture in college to the mommy wine culture that followed. After another night of broken promises to herself about remaining present and aware at a party, she blacked out and the hangover lasted several days and the thoughts of quitting started to become more real. Hadley discusses how it was in a 2-year span that she was working on her relationship with alcohol and after a day drinking session at the lake house she began her journey of sobriety in August of 2021 and everything has changed since then. From Lerene's early memories growing up in the pub culture of 1970s London to navigating the lively party scene of the 1980s, my mother shares her experiences of being a part of an era defined by its social indulgences. My mum reflects on her own journey, where the lines between social drinking and dependency became blurred, leading to moments of introspection and realization. However, it was a profound turning point in her life when her best friend was diagnosed with cancer, serving as a wake-up call that prompted her to reevaluate her relationship with alcohol. We also get into:stressors that perpetuate the "mommy wine culture" if my mum knew I had a drinking problemwhy moderation isn't on the tablesubtle societal cues that normalize drinkingTo connect with Nadine:Follow on IG: @the.soberbutterfly @soberbutterflypodcastFollow on TikTok @the.soberbutterflySubscribe to YouTube channel Subscribe to our monthly newsletter, https://thesoberbutterfly.com/Resources from the Episode:FREEBIE Beginner's Guide to Dry January (e-book)FREEBIE Guide to Quitting Alcohol - 30 Day Transformation (course)Partners:Drink MomentUse Code TSB23 for 25% off your orderAudibleFree 30 Day Trialhttps://www.audibletrial.com/tsb24Thanks for tuning in! In this episode of the Sober Motivation Podcast, Michelle courageously shares her battle with alcohol. Growing up in a small town in Delaware, Michelle had a seemingly 'normal' life. Although initially, her consumption was socially oriented, as her environment and stress levels changed, she found herself caught up in mommy wine culture and her alcohol dependence grew, increasing after the death of her brother Mickey. Consumed with grief and facing multiple personal challenges, her alcohol consumption escalated to a dangerous level, causing her to seek help eventually. Through her stay at rehab and firm commitment, she reclaimed control of her life, emphasizing the importance of readiness, taking small steps towards sobriety, and drawing strength from personal tragedies. --------------- Check out the NEW SoberBuddy Platform- https://community.yoursoberbuddy.com Connect with Michelle on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/belmontlegends/ Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sobermotivation/

Brooke is here today to celebrate 100 days of sobriety! Mommy Wine Culture was just ramping up when Brooke had her daughters. It crept into her life slowly and steadily until it was a regular fixture in her days. She thought she had a sophisticated superpower - she could drink so much, but she always managed to stay lucid. She now realizes she was programmed to see that as a good thing. As Brooke got older, she began to attempt moderation. She tried it again and again, but her drinking always ramped up again… until one day this summer when she saw a reel from Suzanne! The reel, which told her that she didn't have to be an ‘alcoholic' to quit drinking, was the epiphany she needed. She is now celebrating 100 days and finding so much new joy in life! She is excited to keep going so that she can better show up for her teenage daughters. If you're just starting on your sobriety journey, Brooke wants you to know that it's okay to take it one day at a time! Plus, let yourself eat all that sugar you're craving. It'll be okay! #251 - There's a problem going on right now in our world and it's called Mommy Wine Culture. Celeste Yvonne hits it head-on with her new book "It's Not About the Wine: The Loaded Truth Behind Mommy Wine Culture". Besides being an author, Celeste is also a runner, and a recovery coach. There has been a lot of talk about “Mommy Wine Culture” in recent years. Specifically about how women are being sold a lie. A lie that says we should be able to do everything and if we don't we're failing, and that a glass of wine will smooth out the rough spots. Today I'm speaking with Celeste Yvonne, author of “It's not about the wine: The loaded truth behind Mommy Wine Culture”. She has really struck a nerve with her writing and thoughts on social media. Her platform on IG, @theultimatemomchallenge has over 112K followers! In this conversation we talk about what Mommy wine culture is, the driving force behind it, and how Moms can take back control over their lives and live alcohol free. Before we jump in, I have two resources for you. First, I have two spots open for private 1:1 coaching where I use hypnosis to address blocks or resistance to progress. We all have moments where we struggle with self-sabotage, but there is absolutely a process to break those limiting behavior patterns. To set up a consultation call, just visit soberlifeschool.com The second resource is the Self-Help Junkie series that I will be releasing early next week! This is where we discuss a topic like how to develop healthy self-esteem, define terms, why it's important and 3 action steps you can take to apply it to your life. There will be a free pdf worksheet and I foresee a group coaching call for those of you who have questions or need help with resolving roadblocks. So stay tuned for that! I'm really excited to share this conversation with you, so without further delay, please enjoy this episode and let me know what you think! Ever wonder how societal pressures and expectations can drive you towards unhealthy coping mechanisms? On this episode of Corporate Drinker, Laurie's conversation with Celeste Yvonne, a sober mom advocate, author, and certified recovery coach, will make you rethink the pervasive “mommy wine culture.” Celeste gets candid about her journey of sobriety, five and a half years in the making, and how her experiences in the hustle and bustle of corporate America for 20 years clashed with the harsh realities of motherhood. She also uncovers the often-hidden feelings of despair and shame parents face amid the daily grind. Growing up in a big Italian family, alcohol was everywhere during Bri's childhood. From sips of wine from her parent's glasses to beers while celebrating basketball games, Bri was raised to see alcohol as a fun way for adults to unwind and connect with each other. When Bri became a mom herself, she began to understand her own mother's nightly drink, and gradually Mommy Wine Culture became central to her life. Yet, what seemed like a carefree, easy and glamorous approach to being a mom wasn't all it was cracked up to be. One night, a lightbulb went off in her mind. She took a sip of wine, noticed its gross taste, and felt deeply the damage she was doing to her body. Right then and there, she stopped drinking for good. Tune in for Bri's story, with a sprinkle of Bravo gossip, in this week's episode!
