Everyone is Asleep but Me by Diana Yacobi and Lily SafraniThe starting point of this little story was a conversation with my daughter, Lily. Her son was no longer sleeping in a crib and was getting used to a junior bed. He went through a period of waking up very early, around 5:30 in the morning, and coming to his parents bedroom. Needless to say, she was tired and annoyed with the whole situation. In one of our phone conversations, I thought a story approach might help. Most of the story is exactly the story I told her spontaneously on the phone. I wrote it down and sent it to her. Once I shared the story with friends, the pictures were inevitable. Everyone Is Asleep but Me is dedicated to my grandchildren Erez, Maya, Ethan, and Milan who inspired the story. These days, they're all great sleepers! Sleepy Bear wakes up during the night and finds that his ball, train and lion are sleeping. He looks in on his parents and who are also deep asleep. There is no room in their bed for him to join them. Sleepy Bear returns to his bed and discovers that it is so warm and cozy. The next day he is full of energy and so proud that he slept the WHOLE night in his own bed!Diana has always been involved with children, as a Mom, Educational Director of synagogue schools and as a grandmother. During her educator years she wrote a Hebrew reading curriculum, Read Hebrew Now available on Amazon as Sarah and David Hebrew Books. It is used by teachers, tutors, home school families, synagogues and anyone interested in learning to read and write Hebrew. Diana is very happy that the collaboration with Lily continues with this little bear in their first children's story book.Amazon LinkWebsite Linkwww.readhebrewnow.com https://olympusstoryhouse.com/

Today, I am excited to share the first class in a series of lipid masterclasses with the amazing Dr. Thomas Dayspring! Dr. Dayspring is certified in internal medicine and clinical epidemiology and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the National Lipid Association. He was previously the Educational Director of a nonprofit organization and has served as the Chief Academic Advisor for two major cardiovascular labs. Due to the in-depth nature of my discussions with Dr. Dayspring over several sessions, each lasting nearly six hours, it seemed logical to present these masterclasses in segmented chunks to make them easier to understand. In our first class today, we dive into the fundamentals, exploring what lipids are and how lipids and fatty acids are classified. We cover the physiology and transportation of cholesterol and the role of apoptosis, apo-proteins, and apo-lipoproteins, unravel the differences between HDL, LDL, IDL, and VLDL, and explain how to calculate LDLs and triglycerides for assessing metabolic health. Dr. Dayspring also shares his preferences regarding lab values and the indicators that provide information to help him determine the early risk of cardiovascular disease. We get into some detailed aspects of physical chemistry in this episode, so I highlight the main clinical points throughout our conversation to make it more understandable. Be sure to join Dr. Dayspring and me for our next episode in the lipid masterclass series. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: What are lipids, and why are they important? Dr. Dayspring explains what triglycerides are. How lipids get absorbed and transported throughout the body What lipoproteins are, and how they get classified How cholesterols get calculated The impact of triglycerides on cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health How high triglyceride levels can indicate early insulin resistance or increased ASCVD risk What is the role of HDL particles? How metabolic syndrome impacts cardiovascular health Bio: Thomas Dayspring MD is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the National Lipid Association and is certified in internal medicine and clinical lipidology. After practicing in New Jersey for 37 years, in 2012, he moved to Virginia. He served as an educational director for a nonprofit cardiovascular foundation and until mid-2019 as a Chief Academic Advisor for two major CV laboratories. Since then, he has served as a virtual cardiovascular / lipidology educator. Career-wise he has given over 4000 domestic (in all 50 states) and several international lectures, including over 600 CME programs on atherothrombosis, lipids/lipoproteins (and their treatment), vascular biology, biomarker testing, and women's cardiovascular issues. He has authored several manuscripts and lipid textbook chapters and performed several podcasts. For several years he was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. If you were among those fortunate enough to be in the audience at the opening of FDIC 2024, you heard something special.I'd say it was a call to arms… a call to take revolutionary action.Chief David Rhodes spoke for about a half-hour, laying out a case for change in the fire service. His main argument: that the fire service has become too risk-averse. That the leaders of departments are so afraid of injuries—and of course, lawsuits—that they don't want firefighters to take any risks on the fireground.Or even in training. He said that puts citizens in danger. And he said that change needs to happen, from the bottom up. It sure won't come from the top down. Here to discuss that with me is David Rhodes.Chief Rhodes had nearly four decades in the fire service when he retired from the Atlanta, Georgia Fire Department. He currently serves as the Editor in Chief of Fire Engineering magazine. He's also the Educational Director for FDIC.

He lives in Ramat Beit Shemesh with his wife and two adorable children. Rabbi Noam White is a shana aleph rebbe in Yeshivat HaHesder Lev HaTorah and assistant director of Lev LaChayal, Lev HaTorah's Lone Soldier program. Noam studied for Smicha in Lev HaTorah's Rabbanut Kollel for 5 years (together with Shlomo Rayman), served as a special forces sniper in the IDF and currently serves in reserves. Noam currently lives in Neria with his wife, Elisheva, and their three children, with their fourth on the way. Special thank you to Yeshivat Lev HaTorah and Lev LaChayal. ____________________________________ ✬ SPONSOR OF THIS EPISODE ✬ ____________________________________ ► BITBEAN: Industry Leading Enterprise Software for Innovative Businesses Seeking to optimize operations and scale your business? In this episode we have an amazing conversation with Barak Ben-Amots, the Educational Director at Flying Pig Farm. Barak highlights the importance of helping our students and educators reconnect with the land in an attempt to help them reconnect with themselves. He shares some phenomenal examples of how getting students outside promotes learning and regulation. As an educator, he truly understands that no one grows alone, and by getting kids access to nature he has uncovered a new found joy in teaching. Barak Ben-Amots serves students of all ages in Manitou Springs, Colorado, as Educational Director of Flying Pig Farm. He works to facilitate learning and growing opportunities that recall and reclaim relationships with food and natural systems. Barak seeks to foster resilience in students, educators, classes, and entire schools through his hands-on, relationship based lessons. By working with seeds, animals, plants, and soil, we learn that we are not alone at all, but rather held compassionately by the family that is our ecosystem, providing us with nutrition, oxygen, and connection that we can always draw upon. Intro song: Poet's Row, Young Bones
This week we are rebroadcasting our interview with Rowen White originally aired in July of 2020. Across Turtle Island, seeds have long been passed down through the generations — accompanied by ceremony and prayer, reverent seed cultures, and sustainable food growing practices. Through eras of colonization and acculturation, however, we've seen the consolidation of seeds into a handful of corporations and the production of a soulless industrial food landscape. This system is failing us and, as centralized infrastructure strains and buckles, we turn to the embrace of our community and the nurturance of seeds at the local and village level. This episode is all about renewal and reanimation, as our guest Rowen White shares her thoughts on Indigenous food sovereignty, seed restoration as rematriation, and what it means to bring seed relatives home. Rowen White is a Seed Keeper and farmer from the Mohawk community of Akwesasne and the Educational Director and lead mentor of Sierra Seeds. Music by Madelyn Ilana. Visit our website at forthewild.world for the full episode description, references and action points.
