"Wake up, kids!" We were in this campground - 3:30 in the morning. You ask, "What were you doing to your kids?" Well, I had planned a trip up Cadillac Mountain. I had been told this was the first place you could see the sunrise on the East Coast. I wanted to see this. I thought this would be a great adventure for my wife and my kids. Well, they weren't as enthused as I was, especially when I woke them up at 3:30. Oh, but I thought ahead. I bought donuts the night before, so when they woke up I stuffed a donut in each mouth so they wouldn't wake up the campground. Then we started my well-planned adventure up Cadillac Mountain. We wound our way up to the top, and there on the eastern horizon, in that chilly early morning air, we were rewarded with an unforgettable view of the clouds! Oh, I had listened to the weather forecast. They promised me sun. I had a family insurrection on my hands. We never did see the sun that morning. I had made my plans. I went to a lot of effort. I got to the top of my mountain, and this is not what I thought I would find there. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Disappointment Mountain." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Matthew 6:32. Jesus has been talking about clothes, and food, and earthly possessions. And He continues by saying, "The pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." I think Jesus is sort of talking about two mountains you can climb. One I call Earth Stuff Mountain. Then He describes what I would call Kingdom Mountain, which is "seeking first the kingdom of God." Even if you're a follower of Jesus, unless you make a conscious, courageous choice to climb Kingdom Mountain with your life, you'll probably spend your best years and your best energy on Mount Earth Stuff. I remember this seminar where I was teaching years ago about Peaceful Living in a Stressful World. A man in his 30s was there, and he was very successful in business. He told me he'd come that day to find out how to be more successful. At the end of it he walked out in tears. He told me, "All these years I've been climbing the wrong mountain. And I want the rest of my life to be in the service of the Lord." It could be you've been climbing the wrong mountain too. Maybe you love Jesus, but you're really living mostly for earth stuff, for earth security, for earth significance. You have all your plans together, like when I tried to go up Cadillac Mountain. You've worked hard; you're getting to the top. But when you get to the top you say, "Wait a minute! Why am I so empty? This isn't the view I expected." It's called Disappointment Mountain. The Bible says God planted eternity in the hearts of men. So, we're built for eternal things. Earth stuff won't do it. We need something that lasts forever. You know, Jesus stands there to challenge your daily value system. Not your official beliefs, but your real decision-making value system. Would you let Him loosen your grip on all you've accumulated? Would you let Him change what you're aiming your best efforts at so it is compatible with your hunger for something eternal in your heart? The Bible says in the words of Jesus, as He asks this disturbing question, "What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?" I wonder if that could be the pursuit you're on; the path you're on. You've gained so much. You've done well. You've fulfilled some of your dreams. But, it's the wrong mountain. Even if you get to the top you will not find what you're looking for. Because you were "created by Jesus and for Jesus" the Bible says. He says it's too high a price to pay to lose your soul and your eternity to think that somehow what you've got is going to be enough, even your religion. See, He came and died on a cross to remove the sin that keeps us across the Grand Canyon from the God who made us. And He would love to bring you together with Him today so you can finally have the end of a life that has been searching but not finding. Our website is about how to begin your relationship with Him. Would you take a few minutes and check it out - it's ANewStory.com. Because I can tell you, the view at the top of Mount Kingdom is all that your soul has longed for and all that your heart has been looking for.

“Women are so cerebral. We're running things. We're doing things, we are getting there. And it disconnects us from our pelvic floor. And when we look at the pelvic floor, that is our safety. That is our power,” shares Debbie Rice, ND. Debbie is the Director of Clinical Education for Precision Analytical and also practices part time as a naturopathic doctor. Her focus is on hormone health, thyroid health, and adrenal health. Most people have a very limited education on hormones, especially when it comes to women and their cycles. Hormones play a large role in overall health for both women and men and are critical for helping the body manage stress. Today, Debbie joins host Lara to discuss the importance of a healthy hormone balance. It is a common misconception that hormones are static within the body. In truth, hormones are continually fluctuating depending on your circumstances, and with women, routinely fluctuating throughout their cycles. People are so busy nowadays and it is easy to end up so disconnected from your body that you are not really noticing your hormonal shifts. At Precision Analytical, Debbie performs hormone evaluation through the Dutch test, which uses dried urine to test for levels of sex hormones and adrenal hormones. This test is very helpful for understanding how your body is processing estrogen, testosterone and progesterone as well as the stress hormone, cortisol. Knowing what your hormone levels are within your body empowers you to make more informed choices for managing your stress levels and preventing burnout. Not all providers are particularly knowledgeable about hormones and may not even think to discuss them with their patients. If you are looking to better manage your stress, seek a provider who understands the critical influence of hormones on the body. Quotes • “We have choices that influence our health. We have choices that can lead us down the healthier pathway.” (23:26-23:35 | Debbie) • “Some people feel silenced, even when they're talking to their provider.” (33:17-33:20 | Debbie) • “There are choices that you can make with your lifestyle that make such a huge difference in how your body registers that stress.” (35:17-35:23 | Debbie) • “Women are so cerebral. We're running things. We're doing things, we are getting there. And it disconnects us from our pelvic floor. And when we look at the pelvic floor, that is our safety. It feels like there are so many changes taking place in our society, there are times it is just overwhelming. Because of technology we reach more people but talk less. Intimacy is replaced with a smiley face on a text. Everything is on an “App”. It seems that personal relationships lose the nuances of affection in a text. Although it does help us communicate more often with many people Lately, I have felt there is also a cycle of 24-7 negativity, almost an assault on our values. Conflicts seem to loom at every turn. This week's show is focused on how to be responsible for your own happiness. We also look at the intricate value of a grandma and grandpa with old-fashioned values and the way they are so important in helping you laugh when everyone else is throwing stones. . I believe the greatest power a person has is to choose happiness and gratitude. For more, head over to: www.franexcell.com/ Mantras For Success In A Stressful World I wanted to go a bit rogue for today's episode and give you something tangible you can use to come back to time and time again. You might want to do it with your eyes closed so do feel free to listen to the context and then pause and come back later. I know things might be feeling a little bit tricky and sticky at the moment and often people love affirmations in these times…BUT…I think about affirmations a little differently. If you're saying something that your unconscious mind is just going to go ‘HA! No chance.' then there really is very little point and you'll likely feel that it makes you feel WORSE. So, we use phrases that our mind can really get on board with. So when you go through these please do feel free to take what feels good (you'll notice physiologically in your body) and leave what doesn't. OR adapt it to your language and something you know you can get on board with. If you know EFT/Tapping please do feel free to give these a big oomph by tapping on your meridian points. I'll give you a quick reminder of the points. Start with the karate chop point on the side of your hand and make your statements of how you're feeling right now. Then speak along with these mantras at each point. Top of the eyebrow. Side of the eye. Under the eye. Under the nose. Under the mouth. Collar bone. Under your arm on the bra line. Top of the head. If you've never practiced EFT before feel free to leave that out or follow along with a reel that I've posted on my Instagram. I'm going to state some mantras for you to repeat in your own mind or out loud. Please make sure you're in a safe place if you're going to do these with your eyes closed and of course not driving, operating machinery or watching the kiddos. So here we go. Even though there's a lot going on in the world right now, this is temporary and I am ok. Even though this situation might not be ideal, I know there are more options for me if I seek them. I control my busy mind, not the other way around. Even though I may feel worried about the future, I can be right here, right now, in this moment. I am far more capable than I'm giving myself credit for. I know what's right for me. It's the people who keep digging that find the gold. It's ok for me to put this down for a minute and look after me. I'm good enough. I have always been good enough and I always will be good enough. I make good decisions when my emotions are regulated. I get to choose to be happy. I'm great at what I do and I'm always learning and evolving. I choose what I feed my brain. I get to switch off the news and look at my own situation. Other people's opinion of me matters far less than my own opinion of me. Slow and steady wins the race. I really have got this. Success comes from being willing to fail. Rest is an essential part of success. It's ok to feel my feelings. Every day I'm growing and evolving. Everything is going to work out exactly as it's supposed to. Cliche as it sounds, when one door closes another, better door opens. There is always another option. When things don't work out as I planned it's simply an opportunity for course correction to something better. I always figure things out, but I don't have to do it by myself. I don't have to do everything myself. The most successful people in the world make mistakes. I will either get the result I want or the lesson I need. Where I put my attention is what shows up in my life. The hardest part is to just start, everything gets better from there. I only need to focus on the steps, not the mountain. I define my own version of success. The secret to success is to just keep going and course correcting as needed. Pick some that you really resonate with and start to live by them and see how things shift for you. I really hope you enjoyed this. Let me know over on Instagram @imfranexcell Fx

The Happy Kid Handbook | How to Raise Joyful Children in a Stressful World | Katie Hurley | Summary With all the parenting information out there and the constant pressure to be the “perfect” parent, it seems as if many parents have lost track of one very important piece of the parenting puzzle: raising happy kids. Parenting today has gotten far too complicated. It's never been the easiest job in the world, but with all the “parenting advice” parents are met with at every corner, it's hard not to become bewildered. It seems that in the past it was a good deal simpler. You made sure there was dinner on the table and the kids got to school on time and no one set anything on fire, and you called it a success. But today everybody has a different method for dealing with the madness--attachment parenting, free-range parenting, mindful parenting. And who is to say one is more right or better than another? How do you choose? The truth is that whatever drumbeat you march to, all parents would agree that we just want our kids to be happy. It seems like a no-brainer, right? But in the face of all the many parenting theories out there, happiness feels like it has become incidental. That's where The Happy Kid Handbook by child and adolescent psychotherapist and parenting expert Katie Hurley comes in. She shows parents how happiness is the key to raising confident, capable children. It's not about giving in every time your child wants something so they won't feel bad when you say no, or making sure that they're taking that art class, and the ballet class, and the soccer class (to help with their creativity and their coordination and all that excess energy). Happiness is about parenting the individual, because not every child is the same, and not every child will respond to parenting the same way. By exploring the differences among introverts, extroverts, and everything in between, this definitive guide to parenting offers parents the specific strategies they need to meet their child exactly where he or she needs to be met from a social-emotional perspective. A back-to-basics guide to parenting, The Happy Kid Handbook is a must-have for any parent hoping to be the best parent they can be.

As an entrepreneur, you are no stranger to stress, anxiety, and burnout. From managing a business to dealing with personal issues, you constantly juggle multiple balls in the air. That said, finding a way to balance your life in a stressful world is important. And that is what Dave Valentine, Chief Executive Officer at Avadel Agency, shares with Mitch Russo today. When Dave first established his company, he was also working an 8 to 5 as a business consultant, raising his first child with his lovely wife, and working into ungodly hours of the night to keep up. Through tenacity, sheer will, and the mental awakening that consistent sleep deprivation brings, Avadel grew into a 7-figure agency, and his well-being turned to garbage. This catalyzed the shift in his approach to life and business. Join Dave as he talks about how he freed himself from the stress of running multiple businesses. He is now helping hundreds of brands grow their business and bottom line by gaining massive returns from their marketing. So here's the deal. Dave will book three meetings for any listeners. Looking for Relief in a Stressful World. The hosts for this show are Ken Burtness and Jay Fidell. Just as we start to feel COVID releasing its hold on us we are bombarded by the specter of a country being attacked and people suffering, while we and the world are doing little to help. We see the leader of the attacking country as resistant to logic and reason, while leaders of other countries are held back from helping by self-interest. Why can't we as individuals do anything? Why can't we influence our government to help? Again we are faced with feelings of uncertainty and fear - what if we are are pulled into this war? What will be the repercussions? How will our lives be affected? Again depression knocks at our door. How can we answer? There are ways and we can find them. For this episode we welcome child and adolescent psychotherapist, Katie Hurley, back to the show. We first heard from Katie way back on episode 31 when we discussed her insightful book, The Happy Kid Handbook: How to Raise Joyful Children in a Stressful World. Her new book is called No More Mean Girls: The Secret to Raising Strong, Confident and Compassionate Girls. Katie explains that she's seeing a pattern of Mean-Girl behaviour we typically associate with high school or middle school cropping up more often in the elementary years. We talk about why when girls are flourishing academically are they engaged in toxic competition with one another, and critically, what we can do about it. Show Notes Love our work?
