What if the thing you're working so hard to achieve can't actually give you what you're looking for? Through the story of Jacob, this message explores the work God is doing beneath our work, exposing our need for approval, success, control, and significance. Jacob spends his life striving for a blessing through relationships, wealth, and achievement, only to discover that what he was searching for could only be found in God. Sometimes it's through weakness, disappointment, and even failure that we finally stop trying to prove ourselves and learn to cling to the One who already knows and loves us.Timestamps:00:00 – The work behind the work04:18 – Are you working for a blessing or from one?12:20 – Jacob's search for approval and significance22:14 – Jacob wrestles with God34:30 – Why weakness can change the way we workLinks:Connect: https://www.beacon.church/connectSubscribe: https://www.youtube.com/@beacon_church?sub_confirmation=1Website: https://www.beacon.churchInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/beacon.church/
There's a difference between choosing adoption… and choosing to embrace everything that comes with it.When Susan Strong's first round of IVF failed, she didn't know it would become the beginning of a completely different life. Thirty-four years later, she's the adoptive mom of two daughters, has lifelong relationships with four birth parents, and has built an open adoption story she never could have planned for.In this honest and deeply moving conversation, Susan shares what she's learned about choosing curiosity over fear, trusting your instincts, and building open adoption relationships without a roadmap. From meeting her first birth mother and being asked to adopt her baby after just 15 minutes, to navigating a second adoption with a teenage birth mother, to watching her daughters grow into their own relationships with their birth families, Susan offers a perspective shaped by decades of experience, unexpected loss, and a whole lot of saying yes.In this episode, we talk about:How Susan's failed IVF cycle became the unexpected beginning of her adoption journeyThe adoptee's story that changed Susan's mind about closed adoption and led her to choose opennessWhat Susan learned about choosing curiosity over fear when the path ahead feels uncertainHow Susan met her first birth mother, Carmen, and why Carmen asked her to adopt her baby just 15 minutes after meetingThe three things Susan believes make open adoption work: choice, trust, and commitmentWhy open adoption doesn't come with a roadmap—and the lifelong work required to maintain those relationshipsWhat Susan learned from her daughters about attachment, identity, grief, and the experience of carrying two family storiesThe advice Susan would give hopeful adoptive parents about trusting their instincts, being honest about what they can handle, and taking the leap togetherAbout Susan:Susan Strong is the author of One Yes At A Time: How Open Adoption Transformed Our Family, a book about her family's 34-year journey through open adoption. What do you do when you've prayed, believed, and nothing seems to change? In this message from our Pray Like Jesus series, guest pastor Stephen Francis explores why Jesus calls us to keep praying even when the answer hasn't come. Through Mark 9, we see that prayer isn't a last resort, but a way of depending on God for the power and faith we don't have on our own. When circumstances feel impossible, we're challenged not to settle for “it is what it is,” but to keep praying, keep believing, and trust that God is still at work.Prayer Guides: Abiding Prayer -https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5e640e458182c82e0a471fb5/t/69acdfc03e622b3b31f82674/1772937152768/Abiding+Prayer+Guide.pdfAsking Prayer -https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5e640e458182c82e0a471fb5/t/69ace0452e9ae05322ca319e/1772937285891/Asking+Prayer+Guide.pdfTimestamps:00:00 – Why prayer matters13:09 – Strongholds that only prayer can break20:54 – “I believe, help my unbelief”28:55 – Keep praying, keep believing37:22 – Making prayer part of everyday lifeLinks:Connect: https://www.beacon.church/connectSubscribe: https://www.youtube.com/@beacon_church?sub_confirmation=1Website: https://www.beacon.churchInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/beacon.church/
Every few months I ask myself one question for two weeks straight: What am I avoiding? I write it at the top of my journal every morning and let the answers come, gently, without judgment. In this episode I talk about why avoidance becomes a habit, why kindness is the way in, not more self-criticism, and what happens when we finally give the truth some air time. Try it for ten days and see what surfaces.Subscribe to Sparked on Substack: https://carabradley.substack.comMore on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@sparkedwithcara?sub_confirmation=1Website: https://carabradley.net

I believe one of the greatest gifts we can give the world is to get over ourselves: to put down the backpack of stories, roles, and identities we carry every day. I'd love to hear from you 'text the show'In this episode, Katie asks clinic owners a big question: are you being an ostrich with your numbers? She explains why looking at your bank balance or waiting for your year-end accounts keeps you reactive, and why you need a simple, repeatable way to track the right numbers regularly. Katie walks through a practical approach to forecasting based on profit (not just turnover), including treating the owner's pay as a real business cost, working out the true top-line revenue you need, and then breaking that down into tangible targets like sessions per week or class attendance. She also covers how forecasting helps you plan for seasonality, capacity, recruitment, cashflow gaps (especially with insurance work), and better margins by focusing on efficiency and “lowest hanging fruit” improvements.Main Topics Covered:Why many clinic owners avoid their numbers and how that keeps the business reactive rather than planned. The difference between looking at turnover and focusing on profit and cashflow. Why paying yourself “what's left” creates unstable income and can cause issues (especially for limited companies). How to treat the business owner's pay as a real cost in the P&L, not an afterthought.A simple forecasting method: desired take-home pay + expenses + tax = required top-line revenue. How to break revenue targets into practical actions (sessions per month, sessions per week, hours in the diary). How to calculate an average session value and use it to set realistic treatment-hour targets.Using forecasting for different business models (1:1 sessions vs classes) and what the numbers reveal about capacity. How seasonality (school holidays, annual leave, quieter months) impacts income and staffing capacity. How forecasting helps you plan recruitment ahead of time instead of waiting until you're overwhelmed. Why prioritising profit highlights better margins and exposes “busy but not profitable” activities.Examples of low-margin distractions (room rental, admin time, extra effort for small income) and why numbers matter.Insurance work and cashflow: long payment terms, lower margins, and why private-pay often improves profitability. How tracking numbers regularly reduces overspending, helps cut unnecessary expenses, and supports strategic growth. Why you can't strip all the money out of the business and still expect it to grow, and how forecasting supports gradual increases.Katie's key takeaway: stop burying your head in the sand, commit time to knowing your numbers, and decide what you want to earn so you can build a clinic and a life you love.Treat Your Business podcast is proudly sponsored by Klatch: Results-driven marketing built for healthcare companies. I'd love to hear from you 'text the show'In this episode, Katie Bell is joined by Charlie from Klatch.co.uk to unpack what's actually working right now for clinic growth, and what's just noise. They explore the reality of AI in clinic marketing, why direct bookings from AI search are still low but its influence is growing, and what clinic owners should focus on instead of chasing shiny new tools. Katie and Charlie also dive into the biggest lever most clinic owners overlook: front desk performance. From call handling and follow-up frameworks to booking journey friction, opening hours, and the “leaky bucket” effect, this conversation is packed with practical insights to help you convert more of the leads you're already generating and build sustainable growth.Main Topics Covered:The difference between direct bookings from AI search and AI's indirect role in the patient decision journey. Why AI search optimisation matters now, even if it's currently a small percentage of bookings. The importance of a holistic marketing approach, and why clinics can't rely on one lead source. Why your email list and reviews are two of the only assets you truly “own” as a clinic. How the best-performing clinics combine performance marketing with strong internal systems. Why front desk performance is one of the highest leverage growth drivers in a clinic. What effective front desk calls include: listening, objection handling, pricing confidence, and creating scarcity. Why marketing is only half the story, and how call handling impacts conversion and lifetime value. The case for Saturday opening hours, and how adding weekend availability can drive significant revenue growth. Why clinic owners often view admin as a cost, and how to reframe it as an investment. How to measure and manage front desk performance using clear metrics and role clarity. Why great culture comes from improving systems, not blaming people, and how frameworks help staff thrive.Where AI can support clinics (out of hours and overflow), and why it won't beat a great human front desk. Why online booking often converts poorly, and how friction in the booking journey loses “hot and ready” patients. Why calls convert better than online booking, and how forms plus fast follow-up (including WhatsApp) can capture leads.Katie's “leaky bucket” analogy: why more marketing spend won't work if your operational systems are leaking revenue. What Klatch does differently, and why transparency and revenue-tracking matter in a clinic-agency relationship.Charlie's biggest recommendation for the next 30 days: improve front desk performance and the systems around it.Why hiring the right front desk person matters, and how strengths and role fit impact performance.Thank you for tuning into this episode of Treat Your Business. What does it really mean to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread"? In this message,June explores how this simple line from the Lord's Prayer teaches us to trust God one day at a time, even when life feels uncertain. I'd love to hear from you 'text the show'In this episode, Katie introduces the fourth foundational step for building a clinic business that creates more time, more income, and more freedom: “you”. She explains why the biggest obstacle to growth is often not your marketing, your pricing, or your systems, but the beliefs you are operating from as the business owner. Katie unpacks how your thoughts shape your reality, why your current business environment is a direct result of past belief systems, and how upgrading your “money thermostat” can change the decisions you make and the results you create. She also shares why you cannot out-strategy a faulty mindset, how affirmations can help reprogram the subconscious, and what to focus on before you dive into the upcoming strategy-heavy episodes.Main Topics Covered:Why the biggest challenges clinic owners face are often rooted in the business owner, not the business strategy. The quote “Whatever a man can conceive and believe, it can achieve” and how thoughts either move you forward or hold you back. How belief systems are formed through upbringing, authority figures, experiences, and accumulated knowledge. Why your business environment is a product of your beliefs, and how many of those beliefs may not actually be yours. The concept of your “money thermostat” and how it gets set by what you hear, absorb, and repeat. Why Katie chose to stop reading and listening to the news, and how inputs affect how you show up in business. Living on autopilot versus living consciously, and why awareness is essential for growth. Why the best marketing strategy will only get you so far if your mindset and beliefs have not been upgraded. “You can't out strategy a faulty mindset” and why mindset work must be woven into business growth. What affirmations are, how they work, and why the brain does not distinguish between true and false in the way we think it does. Examples of inherited money beliefs like “money doesn't grow on trees” and “to make money you have to work hard”. How beliefs can be inherited across generations, and how questioning them creates freedom and new possibilities. A recap of the four foundations: the why, the who, the how, and you, and a preview of what is coming next as Katie revisits each in more depth.Thank you for tuning into this episode of Treat Your Business. What does real forgiveness look like, especially when the hurt runs deep? In this message from our Pray Like Jesus series,we explore Jesus' teaching on forgiveness in the Lord's Prayer and discover that forgiveness isn't about excusing what happened or pretending the pain wasn't real.Instead,it's choosing to release others into God's hands because we've first experienced His forgiveness. As we let go of bitterness,we make room for God's healing, protect our hearts from becominghardened, and reflect the grace we've already received through Christ.Timestamps:00:00 – Why forgiveness is central to the Lord's Prayer12:57 – What happens when we refuse to forgive27:26 – What forgiveness is—and what it isn't34:31 – How praying for your enemies transforms your heartLinks:Connect: https://www.beacon.church/connectSubscribe: https://www.youtube.com/@beacon_church?sub_confirmation=1Website: https://www.beacon.churchInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/beacon.church/
I'd love to hear from you 'text the show'In this episode, Katie introduces the third key foundation for building a clinic business that creates more time, more income, and more freedom: the “how”. She explains why a pay as you go model can leave your income unpredictable and your diary vulnerable to cancellations, and how creating programmes and packages can help your patients get better results while giving you a more resilient business model. Katie breaks down how to think in terms of state A to state B transformation, identify the roadblocks that get in the way of recovery, and create better conditions for delivery so you are not overpromising, undercharging, and doing unpaid work behind the scenes.Main Topics Covered:Why most clinic owners default to a single session business model, and the hidden cost of relying on pay as you go income. The fear of looking salesy, and why professionalism means recommending what your patients genuinely need. Why you cannot predict marketing, capacity, or revenue when you do not know what is coming in week to week. How churn rate is created when patients drop off before they get results, often because life gets in the way.How to solve problems creatively by building support beyond face to face sessions, based on real patient roadblocks. The state A to state B transformation, and why people buy themselves out of a problem and into a solution. How programmes improve retention, conversion, and revenue by creating commitment and consistency. Why better conditions for delivery lead to better outcomes, stronger boundaries, and a better reputation. How to price your programmes so you are paid for the full scope of support you provide, not just the time in the room.A preview of what is coming next, including mapping roadblocks, pricing, naming, marketing, delivery, and SOPs for your programmes.Thank you for tuning into this episode. What does it really mean to pray, "Give us today our daily bread"? In this message from our Pray Like Jesus series, we discover that Jesus isn't simply teaching us to ask God for what we need, but to trust Him one day at a time. Looking at God's provision in the wilderness and Jesus' declaration that He is the Bread of Life, this message reminds us that our deepest need isn't more security, success, or possessions—it's a daily dependence on Christ. Most people quit meditation because they start in the wrong place, eyes closed, focused inward, fighting distraction from the first minute. In this episode, Cara shares how she actually built a daily meditation practice: not through breathwork or apps, but by anchoring her attention on ordinary things, two trees outside her porch, the silence of a drive, the process of chopping vegetables. Together, they unpack why so many clinic owners look for a simple checklist, why people often want to quit right before a breakthrough, and how money, stress, and fear can quietly drive decision-making without us realising. This episode is a powerful reminder that strategy matters, but the biggest growth comes when you're willing to be coached, stay open-minded, and do the uncomfortable work that moves you towards the future version of yourself.Main Topics Covered:Why “winging it” in business creates anxiety, chaos, and a lack of directionWhat clinic owners are really looking for when they ask for “the checklist”The moment many people try to quit right before a breakthrough, and why it happensHow community and trust reduce fear of judgement and help you move fasterWhy money is often used as a socially acceptable excuse, and how to reframe it as an investmentThe “that won't work for my business” mindset, and how curiosity changes resultsHow stress and overwhelm shut down clear thinking and keep you stuck in survival modeWhy busy work feels productive (dopamine) but doesn't move the needleWhat makes someone truly coachable, and why trust and courage matterThe biggest return from coaching: becoming your future self and embracing fear as a signalWhat hasn't changed at the heart of Thrive: boldness, integrity, transparency, and impactThank you for tuning into this episode. If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or tempted to quit because growth feels uncomfortable, let this be your reminder: you don't need more information, you need the right support, the right focus, and the willingness to take the next brave step forward.Treat Your Business podcast is proudly sponsored by Klatch: Results-driven marketing built for healthcare companies. What does it really mean to pray, "Hallowed be Your name"? In this message from our Pray Like Jesus series, we explore how the Lord's Prayer begins by shifting the focus away from ourselves and back to God. Looking at what it means to treat God's name as holy, we're challenged to examine who is really at the center of our hearts and how that shapes the way we pray, live, and represent Jesus to the world. Ultimately, this message reminds us that prayer isn't about performance or saying the right words. It's about reorienting our hearts around the One who is unlike any other and trusting in the finished work of Christ.Timestamps:00:00 – Why prayer isn't about us09:08 – What "Hallowed be Your name" really means18:19 – How God's holiness reshapes our priorities, prayer, and presence41:38 – Jesus, the perfect example of humility and holinessLinks:Connect: https://www.beacon.church/connectSubscribe: https://www.youtube.com/@beacon_church?sub_confirmation=1Website: https://www.beacon.churchInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/beacon.church/
I'd love to hear from you 'text the show'In this episode, Katie breaks down the second key foundation for building a clinic business that creates more time, more income, and more freedom: the “who”. She explains why marketing yourself as what you do (physio, osteo, sports massage, Pilates) can cause you to miss the vast majority of people who need your help, and how getting clear on who you serve (and the real problems they're trying to solve) makes your marketing resonate and convert.Main Topics Covered:Why marketing “what you do” can lose up to 95% of opportunities to help potential patients. The difference between being everything to everybody vs becoming the obvious choice for the right people. Understanding what your ideal patients are actually thinking before they ever search for a practitioner Why people care more about outcomes than treatment modalities at the first touchpoint How to “look through the letterbox” into your patient's life and speak to their real-world worries and frustrations The fear behind niching down, and why staying broad keeps your marketing invisible Whether you can have multiple ideal clients, and why each one needs a separate marketing campaign Why demographics aren't enough, and how psychographics create stronger, more impactful messaging How to start identifying who you most want to work with based on the clients that energise you A preview of next week's episode: the “how” and solving problems creatively to create consistent incomeThank you for tuning into this episode. If you're ready to attract the right patients and stand out in a crowded industry, start by getting clear on who you help best, and make sure your marketing speaks to their problems, not your job title.Treat Your Business podcast is proudly sponsored by Klatch: Results-driven marketing built for healthcare companies. In this episode, we sit down with Woody DeLauder, founder of Rootbound Farms, a small but highly productive suburban farm based in Southern Maryland. Woody shares how he transformed his suburban lawn into a thriving, human-powered market garden that generates over $100K annually, with the help of his secret best-seller: handmade soap, all while navigating zoning restrictions, skeptical neighbors, and the realities of farming in a residential neighborhood. We explore Woody's journey from being a fourth and fifth grade teacher to becoming a full-time grower and entrepreneur, and how growing food in his front yard became a catalyst for rebuilding community in the suburbs. Woody reflects on the cultural challenges of suburban life, the loss of shared spaces, and how food production can reconnect neighbors through visibility, conversation, and generosity.
