Are you constantly drowning in a sea of emails, back-to-back meetings, and an endless to-do list? Do you end the day feeling exhausted but not truly productive? You're not just busy; you're caught in the "crazy busy" trap—and it's costing you the relationships that fuel long-term success. In this episode from the archive, Andy Lopata is joined by leadership coach and author of The Crazy Busy Cure, Zena Everett, to diagnose and solve this modern epidemic. Zena breaks down why so many professionals prioritise urgent but unimportant tasks (the "field mice") over the high-impact activities that truly move the needle (the "antelopes"). This conversation is packed with actionable strategies for anyone in a client-facing or business development role who wants to shift from a reactive state of "doing" to a proactive state of "achieving". In This Episode, You'll Learn: ·       The "Antelope vs Field Mice" Principle: A powerful mindset shift to help you distinguish between high-value priorities and minor distractions. ·       How to Schedule "Power Hours": A practical method for protecting your most productive time for deep, focused work. ·       The Art of Setting Boundaries: Learn how to say "no" gracefully and communicate your availability to reclaim control of your calendar. ·       Taming Your Digital Leash: Simple but effective techniques to minimise time wasted on unnecessary emails, notifications, and social media. ·       From "Busy" to "Connected": Why scheduling time for relationship-building is a non-negotiable for innovation, career growth, and business success. We've all been caught in the trap of responding "crazy busy" when someone asks how we're doing. But what if our obsession with busyness is actually preventing us from living our true purpose? In this soul-stirring conversation, Nancy Brusher reconnects with her high school friend Muffie Kruse to explore how simplifying our lives can lead to greater fulfillment. Muffie, a registered dietitian and homeschooling mother of three young boys, shares her journey of breaking free from what she calls the "taskmaster spirit" – that constant drive to check everything off the list at the expense of presence and connection.Challenging conventional wisdom, Muffie explains that simplifying isn't just about doing less or owning fewer things. Rather, it's about eliminating distractions so we can step fully into our calling. For anyone feeling overwhelmed by constant demands and endless to-do lists, this episode provides both practical wisdom and spiritual encouragement. Muffie's insights on prayer, presence, and purposeful living offer a roadmap for moving from perpetual busyness to meaningful engagement with what God has called us to do and who He's called us to become.Listen now to discover how simplifying your life might actually expand your capacity for joy, purpose, and impact. Then share this episode with four friends who need this message of freedom from the cultural pressure to be constantly "crazy busy."Watch the whole episodehttps://youtu.be/WNoiJYypBJYhttps://generationstogenerations.com/podcastordinarypeoplestories@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/ordinarypeoplestory https://www.instagram.com/ordinarypeopleextraordinary/ X: @storiesextra Any advice should be confirmed with a qualified professional. All rights reserved: Ordinary People Extraordinary ThingsStories shared by guests may not always be shared views of OPET. Do you feel like you're always busy and yet you can never seem to get ahead? The truth is that staying crazy busy isn't helping you as much as you think it is and in this episode of the Interior Design Business podcast, I'm exploring why. Successful business owners have teams of different people to do different jobs, leaving them with more time to work on the things that pay the big bucks. When you're always busy working in your business, it's impossible to find time to work on it, and that work is really important. I'm going to help you stop measuring your worth based on how busy you are so that you can let go of some of the everyday tasks you're holding on to and free up your time to work on things that get you paid. Topics covered in this episode include:Where the most profit lies in your businessThe value of outsourcing small tasks Why staying crazy busy doesn't work If you're exhausted from being busy all the time, don't miss this episode. Lucinda interviews Zena Everett, a speaker on leadership and productivity and author of the book "The Crazy Busy Cure." They discuss the growing issue of busyness and stress in the workplace, particularly in the context of hybrid working. Zena shares her insights on the impact of personality traits, such as perfectionism and people-pleasing, on productivity. They also explore the importance of clarity of purpose, effective time management, and creating a culture that supports productivity. KEY TAKEAWAYS Certain personality traits, such as perfectionism, people-pleasing, and a tendency to take on too much, can contribute to feeling constantly busy. Being aware of these traits and finding strategies to manage them can help individuals become more productive. Create a culture of psychological safety: It's important to create a work environment where individuals feel safe to voice their concerns, ask for help, and challenge ineffective practices. This fosters open communication and allows for discussions about meeting etiquette, email overload, and other factors that contribute to busyness. Encouraging employees to have dedicated time for deep work, where they can focus on important tasks without interruptions, can lead to increased productivity and a sense of accomplishment. Getting into a state of flow, where individuals are fully absorbed in their work, can also boost productivity and well-being. Bring back lunch breaks and social interactions: Encouraging employees to take proper lunch breaks and engage in social interactions can help foster a sense of connection and reduce feelings of overwhelm. BEST MOMENTS "I think we're in that parent-child relationship where people are almost... Spoon-feeding is unfair, but I think you know what I'm trying to say." "So they had a few hours in the morning to actually do the work. And that worked for everybody because they felt more in control." "But it's really tricky, though, for some people who are naturally unselfish or perfectionist because you're actually going against the grain almost." "So, you know, that's what I was going to say, it feels a bit meh sometimes, doesn't it? It's all a bit meh." In this episode, we talk about the long list of activities and services that we have to prioritize and schedule as we roll into Bryce's 4th grade season. It is NOT easy at all. In addition to his school education, each activity and therapy also has significance for Bryce. As his parents, we also recognized the importance of scheduling time for ourselves as a couple and as individuals, too.  We also are making sure that we schedule family time on Sundays for our special fun time with Bryce in our home. It's not always easy to manage with doctor appointments or other unexpected needs popping up, but we do our best and continue to learn that we are working on Bryce's timeline which does not mirror his peers' school timeline. It's definitely new territory for us!  This episode also has Bryce talking about his higlights from our mountain vacation! He asked me when we would be doing a podcast, so he could talk to all of you. (REPLAY) Burnout: A Shift from Crazy Busy to True Rest :: [Ep. 172]This summer, we are replaying some of our most popular episodes! When we last aired our series all about Burnout and Rest it became one of our more popular series so we thought it was worth the replay! So if you missed it the first time around or want to refresh your memory on what was discussed, join us! This part-2 episode in the series will cover the following:Purpose. Passion. Pursuit. It's what gets us up in the morning, what keeps us striving for the next big thing. It's often what keeps each of us so dang busy...and those things keeping us BUSY are, more times than not, the wrong things to pursue. Question, when was the last time you really took time to pray about what you are pursuing? When did you take time to think about what is keeping you so busy? In this week's podcast, we will talk more about this and uncover the rest you and your marriage need. Join us for this important conversation because getting the rest you need is not only possible, God Himself is the Creator of rest and He wants to give it to you in abundance. In this episode, we're going to study the two different kinds of rest Jesus offers to us and practically how we can begin the process of shifting from crazy busy to true rest. It's our prayer that by the end of this series that you will be free from the burnout, free to rest - the way that God designed you to. Your homework for this week after you listen to the episode:1: Identify the yokes in your life2: confess your sin of letting something other than Christ master you3: Answer Christ's invitation to trade your yokes for HisThen join us in our next episode as we look at steps 4 and 5 - to look at rest in all of its forms and test their validity and place in our lives. Israel was baptized through the Red Sea. They sang a song of victory and rejoiced in the grace of God. But... most of those celebrating that day did not make it home to the promised land. Why not? Pride. They began to feel entitled, and that caused them to turn attention from God to themselves. Part of our episode today will investigate the  mistakes of Israel in I Corinthians 10. How can we be less like them, more dependent on God, and beautifully humble? We will also list 8 things from Kevin Deyoung's book, Crazy Busy. These words, all starting with the letter P (its a Letter P day!) represent more subtle ways that pride sneaks into our lives. Having sought humility in these things, you and I will be better positioned, at the foot of God's throne, to be more useful to Him."A Manifestation of the Many Manifestations of Pride" (pg 35-38)- People Pleasing- Pats on the Back- Performance Evaluation- Proving Myself- Possessions- Prestige- Pity- PostingOoh, I see some of my own pride in that list. But what does our year look like if we know where we need to be humble? If we ask the question: "is this about me? And if it was about God and others, how different would it look?" May the Lord, who has blessed us in His grace and Spirit and Son, use us well and give us a life of gratitude, thankfulness, and service.

Crazy Busy BookLet's turn our attention back to planning through the end of the year and preparing for an amazing 2023. Part of this is spacing out your goals to avoid being "crazy busy." That is not a compliment. Crazy busy people make unneeded sacrifices and end up not enjoying the journey nor the destination. Let's examine how to be more like Jesus. Part of that is knowing your limitations, finding humility, and being ready to be what God wants you to be.7 Thoughts from Crazy Busy:  Calming the Crazy Man Inside (pg. 47-50)1) I am not the Christ2) There is Good News3) Care is not the same as Do4) I can always Pray Right Now5) We have different Gifts and different Callings6) Remember the Church7) Jesus didn't do it allCan you lay out a few things that represent your most crucial priority? What matters most and can you attach actions and growth to those things?Be prepared to have a "posteriority" list.
