“What are you mixed with?” This is a question often posed to multi-racial & racially ambiguous folks, requiring them to reevaluate their identities, especially if they are members of the Black community. In this episode, two multi-racial girls from the Justice is Us Project, Alayna Maragh, and Angie Mejia, evaluate the intersectionality and complications of multi-racial identity, such as identity crisis, colorism, light skin privilege, apartheid, and more. Strap in, because it's going to be one bumpy ride. ...Angie (Angeles) Mejia is a queer Afro-Latinx activist, and a representative of the Justice is Us Project. When she's not advocating for a cause, she's often found writing poetry and speaking about her lived experiences, especially those conversations that often omit intersectionality. They've been involved with the Afterschool Alliance and the Broward Youth Coalition. Her motto is "Always root for the underdog." ...Alayna Maragh is a Blasian who represents the Justice is Us Project. With most of her ancestry coming from the very mixed island of Jamaica, there is still a lot of confusion on what exactly she is, however, she is still proud of her nationality and race(s). She currently attends a high school where most students are monoracial minorities. She is also currently working in the Charity Department on an immersive Web3 project, “The Jockey Experience.” She's been a part of Stranahan's Medical program for some time and wishes to branch out and explore what the world has to offer.

After school programs around the country are having the same issue as a lot of business: finding enough qualified staff members. This was a problem even before the pandemic, but a new survey from the Afterschool Alliance shows 87% of afterschool programs are concerned about finding and keeping staff, and more than half have had to put interested families on waiting lists. This week on The Best Of Our Knowledge, a discussion on the current state of after school programs. From TV, podcasts and video games to countless social media platforms, young people are constantly bombarded with media all day long. How much of that do they actually understand, and at what age should we start teaching them? According to the nonprofit organization Media Literacy Now, media literacy should be taught in K – 12 all over the country. We'll talk about their new policy paper. One reason we need younger people to learn about media literacy is that younger people are spending a lot more time in front of screens. That's the topic of this week's Academic Minute.

Kevin Sorbo, Actor, most widely known for his role as Hercules in the 1990's TV series 'Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,' joins Andy and Sarah to talk about Against the Tide documentary and Faith Under Fire film, why he is a part of these projects about sharing our Christian faith, and what he hopes people gain from these productions. Learn more about Against the Tide at againstthetide.movie and find tickets for limited Fathom Event Nov. 19 and 23 at fathomevents.com/events/against-the-tide. Learn more about Faith Under Fire, opening Nov. 27 - Dec. 1, at faithunderfirefilm.com. About Against the Tide: Against the Tide is a new feature-length documentary on the life, work, and mission of legendary University of Oxford professor, mathematician, and philosopher Dr. John Lennox. Lennox has devoted a lifetime in a rigorous investigation of the critical question “Do science and history refute the validity of the Bible and the Christian worldview?” In Against the Tide, veteran Hollywood actor and director Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, God's Not Dead, Let There Be Light) outlines some of the most challenging accusations that science makes against scripture. Through compelling conversations and visual explorations, Professor Lennox sets the record straight, as he stands against the tide of disinformation and proclaims the undeniable Truth. Created by Pensmore Films, Against the Tide takes viewers on a journey from Oxford to Israel as Lennox and Sorbo unpack theological and scientific evidence of God, culminating in the Holy Land to experience the verifiable evidence about the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Viewers will be educated, informed, and edified in their faith, giving them the confidence and tools to defend their own faith as they also stand Against The Tide. About Faith Under Fire: After an exhausting night saving a young girl from a raging house fire, Fireman Tom Hatcher is at the end of his rope. He couldn't save his wife from cancer – and worse yet – his six year old daughter, Tiffany, is now facing the same possible fate. When he finds himself in a cold jail cell after attacking a pastor out of frustration with a seemingly absent God, Tom begins to reflect on his downward spiral into despair. But with the help and persistent friendship of the very man he assaulted, Tom is challenged to face his grief and embrace faith in the darkest hours of his life. After-school programs are crucial for many families. From the time school gets out around 2 or 3 p.m. to the time most parents get off work at 5 or 6 p.m., after-school program providers offer kids expanded academics and enrichment activities like arts or physical education. But while the need is clear, many state and federally funded after-school programs are struggling to survive. Almost all of the quality after-hours programs in the county are have long waitlists, and not every family can access them. 1st Hour: Fr. Terry Gensemer: Director of Charismatic Episcopal Church for Life, Eric Scheidler: Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League and Troy Newman: President of Operation Rescue discuss how State Regulations are closing Abortion Clinics. 2ns Hour: Kevin Sorbo discusses his new movie "God's Not Dead" and what its like to be a conservative actor in liberal Hollywood. About Kevin Sorbo: Hailing from Norwegian ancestry, Kevin was born in Mound, Minnesota, USA. His mother worked as a nurse and his father taught junior high school resulting in a down to earth upbringing that forged the outstanding work ethic Kevin holds to this day. By the time he was in University, Kevin was covering tuition costs with modeling work which swiftly translated into a career in television with his first appearances on Prime Time shows such as Murder She Wrote and The Commish. Just as the Hercules series came to an end, Kevin received a call from the wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, personally requesting him to play the lead role in Roddenberry’s second sci-fi series, Andromeda. The show ran for five seasons and further fueled Kevin’s already ferociously loyal global following! In 1993, Kevin emerged as a full fledged international TV star when he was cast as the lead role of Hercules in a series of TV films that would lay the groundwork for the immensely popular series, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Kevin also guest-starred as Hercules in episodes of the successful spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess as well as providing his voice to the animated Hercules films. In 1997 Kevin accepted his first leading film role in the fantasy action feature Kull the Conquerer. Along the way, Kevin played characters in video games such as Mortal Kombat 4, God of War and The Conduit. Kevin guest starred on the sitcom Two and a Half Men and played a recurring role on the final season of The O.C. One glimpse at Kevin's imdb and it's clear that this hard working actor takes no breaks! In addition to his work onscreen, Kevin now also produces films, recently serving as Executive Producer and star of the movie Abel's Field. Kevin recently authored the widely praised book, True Strength, that recounts the painful recovery from serious health setbacks that changed his life during his Hercules years. Sorbo married actress Sam Jenkins, whom he met during her guest appearance on Hercules in 1998. They have three children together, Braeden, Shane and Octavia. Besides his successful career in entertainment, Kevin has always devoted a hearty portion of his time to causes he believes in. In 2005 he was named successor to Arnold Schwarzenegger as the national spokesperson for The Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit working to ensure that all children have access to quality after school programs, and since ‘97 Kevin has donated his time as the spokesperson for the non profit organization, A World Fit For Kids.
