Hello there
While Tim was editing episode 1, Rick mentioned something about portable recording that peaked his interest. This inspires an entire episode on what it takes to sit in your Lazy Boy (not sponsored) and record some great licks. There’s a lot of unnecessary name dropping involved but that’s what you need if you want to relax and record outside of your home studio. WHAT IS AN AMP SIMULATOR? An amp simulator simply emulates the sound of a guitar amplifier with digital technology using a Windows : VST2 or Mac : VST2, AU. They usually come as plugins. Sims will vary between manufacturer, but each one is designed try to give you an authentic guitar tone without the need for a ‘real' amp. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake and Richard are back with an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast! Brian trolls Richard expertly before telling us about his experiences at Summer NAMM and it's not like any Summer NAMM he's been to before so he gives us a run down of the show before literally almost performing a different kind of run down as he try's to take out the competition. He's also been checking out some new music…well new fro Brian anyhow….and Richard attempts to educate Brian on early German Power metal. Brian then speculates about Winter NAMM and the attendance levels that may or may not manifest themselves. IK Multimedia, the creators of Amplitube, have come out with some cool looking pedals, and the guys chat about the concept and the large footprint IK have chosen. This brings up the subject of digital versus analog pedals and then the guys talks about how digital sounds different to different people and how age affects hearing. Taste and hearing loss have varying effects on our chase for tone as mentioned by one of our listeners, so the guys chat about it. Rick Beato has had some copyright issues with an episode about “The Cars” and Brian discusses it before smoothly transitioning into the newly stoked up debate about streaming which has gone as far as the British parliament. Will the men in glitter be round? Blake admits he likes Wham and Richard discusses the generosity of George Michael.Brian wants to move to Nashville, Woo-girls and pedal cars, Dodgy rocket designs, Aluminium necked guitars, it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! Another week another episode of your girlfriend's favorite podcast. In episode 26 we discuss how well (or not) Virtual NAMM went and reminisce about old NAMM memories. We also welcome UK artist Moog Gravett with his Steampunk-inspired music project Rapscallion and discuss with him which paths he could choose to promote his upcoming Chap Rock release named Maximum Splendid. Of course, Andy & Dan discuss their favorite picks like the new Brian May Arielle guitar (designed by a young girl) or the much-hyped Jared James Nichols “Gold Glory (is it any good?). We also pick winners on the meme competition and give away two copies of Amplitube 5 live in the show. Enjoy the show!
Happy 25 to the Guitar Stories Podcast! In our anniversary episode we discuss why digital gear can become quickly obsolete (aka a “furby”) and what digital products are here to stay. We also pick our virtual NAMM favorites and discover why a pedalboard with built-in wah might be the next big thing. Dan also gets to geek out on the brand new AZS series from Ibanez and a “violently violet” addition to the signature guitar line. We also receive the first memes in our Amplitube 5 competition … just in time. Enjoy this week's show!
We welcome John Browne of Monuments in this episode. He is renowned as one of the best downpickers in the world but we find quickly out that he is also a fellow guitar nerd who is able to outgeek Andy and Dan. We discuss how Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer" made him want to become a professional guitarist, why an 8-string sounds like the end of the world, and Browne himself explains how you should practice your picking abilities in order to become the next James Hetfield. We also talk about our most recent gear picks in a week that was flooded with new product releases. Another extended length episode for all you Guitar Geeks out there - enjoy! (Episode 24 is sponsored by Amplitube)
We're back in 2021 with Episode 23. We discuss our guitar-related New Year's Resolutions and how to stay on track to achieve them. Andy also geeks out on the latest Amplitube 5 release, Daniel discusses the last time he saw Alexi Laiho on stage (RIP mate!), and we share some thoughts on Andy's favorites of the Ibanez 2021 line-up. We also collect diverse resolutions from our livestream crowd that are very inspiring and sometimes funny. Enjoy this episode! Note: Episode 23 is sponsored by IK Multimedia

JamStack ... The Most Amazing New Amplification Product In Years! Chris Prendergast is the inventor of a new portable guitar amplifier that attaches onto the vast majority of electric guitars. Working with your smartphone it's a guitarists dream. Funded via an Indiegogo campaign, it's funding from guitarists around the world has been simply overwhelming. In this podcast GMI talks to Chris about the idea of JamStack, it's development and his hopes for the future. Podcast Ep 8 – Table Of Contents 0.50 The inspiration for JamStack. 3.28 Evolution of the initial idea and Indiegogo. 5.30 Integrating with mobile phones and battery life. 7.45 Creating the connection between apps, mobile and amp. 9.34 Strap button included! 10.12 The biggest challenges faced. 11.00 Success with Indiegogo and unit pricing. 13.30 Getting onto Canada's "Dragons Den". 16.21 Speaker technology and it's use in JamStack. 17.45 It ain't heavy. 18.32 Fitting the JamStack to your guitar. 20.31 Plans for the future. 21.32 Release date coming soon! 23.36 For use in education establishments 26.40 Patents pending... 27.42 The long term goals and vision More About JamStack JamStack Explained The JamStack is the world's first attachable guitar amplifier and the first to integrate seamlessly with a smart phone for incredible effects, shockingly good tone, and total portability. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xJZAC7F6PM Electric guitars can be a pain to set up. All the required equipment like cables, pedals, power outlets and amplifiers take up space and limit where and when you can play. The JamStack solves that problem, letting guitarists and bassists play wherever, whenever they choose. Easy Set-up: JamStack’s lightweight, portable amplifier connects to the base of an electric guitar (or electric bass) in seconds. Weighing under 2lbs. (900 grams), the amp fits on the strap button at the bottom of most guitars using a spring load system and soft mount to protect from scratches. Adjust the smartphone mount and connect two short cords to the phone and guitar’s output and you are ready to jam! How Long Does A Charge Last For? The JamStack runs 8-hours on a single charge and works with iOS, Windows, Android, and iPhone Touch. Its 10-watt speaker is designed to sound great at high AND low volume. It’s not distorted like a mini-amp, so guitarists can sound as good practicing in the middle of the night at low volume as they would jamming alongside other instruments on the street. Since it is so small and light, the JamStack fits in a guitar case making it perfect for road trips, parties and jamming in the park. Using Effects Layer Effects: Pair the JamStack with apps like AmpliTube and AmpKit to add layered effects like drum beats without wasting time on levels. Back tracks won’t drop out like regular amps! And since the phone is right on the guitar body, guitarists can set up loops on the fly, perform sequined samples, or record and share music effortlessly. JamStack helps recreate virtually any guitar sound without the need for a lot of computer equipment. It’s great for new guitar players too! Adjust the phone to can hear the lesson and follow along on the screen. It even works as a great tuner! Plus, JamStack can be paired with Bluetooth to double as an ultra- premium Bluetooth speaker for sharing tunes wirelessly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_okdy9wVn8 When Will JamStack Be Ready What’s Next: JamStack will take pre-orders on a new Indiegogo campaign starting May 2nd and will appear on Canadian TV’s Dragons’ Den in Fall 2017. A winter 2016 Kickstarter campaign raised more than 325% of its goal to fund the tooling and first manufacturing run in Summer 2017. They have a working prototype and high-end manufacturer lined up so the first customers will receive their JamStacks in August. Jim and Dan discuss different approaches of growing a business, taking advertising, and building audience. They also chat about past and future logos, the history of iTunes, the Diamond Rio, lame Apple rumors, the Apogee Jam, Amplitube, AmpKit, and more.
In Episode two we celebrate drummers! Joining us in this episode is Rick Hughes, Artist Relations Manager for Crush Drums. Everyone at Crush Drums is a drummer...except rick. He's a bassist. Which makes perfect sense! Who better to work with drummers than a bass player? Rick talks to us about the innovations that Crush has made in the drum market in just under two years. From customizable lugs to non-traditional materials, Crush is causing quite a stir in the Drum industry. I really want to thank Rick for coming on the show. We also feature an interview with Crush Drums Artist, Scot Coogan. Scot is pulling double duty as the drummer for Lynch Mob, and Ace Frehley. When the Lynch Mob rolled through Pittsburgh last month (more about that show Wednesday), John from Iron City Rocks invited me to join him in interviewing Scot before the show. We talk to Scot about life on the road with Lynch Mob, Ace Frehley and his new Crush Drum kit. Also in this episode we discuss the new Zoom H2n, the Digitech iPB-10, and the Samson Meteor Mic. I plan to feature some new products in the show each month and eventually I hope to do some full on reviews. The Zoom H2n is an updated version of the H2. I own the H2, and I am happy about the updates on the H2n. In general it looks easier to use. If you want to hear the H2 in action, check out the Scot Coogan interview in this Episode or check out The Mayhem Festival show on Iron City Rocks. The mayhem interviews were conducted in an open noisy outdoor room. The H2 was set to use the front and back Mics and was about two feet from each person talking, just to give you an idea on quality. The iPB-10 just looks cool, and is the next installment in the ever growing list of iPad accessories. I have used Garage Band and Amplitube on the iPad and would love to try something like this that has high quality in's and out's. The Samson Meteor mic is a new USB mic from Samson technologies and is the Mic I happen to be using on this episode.

“Slapback” is an improvisation using a slapback effect (a longer delay time that feels like the sound is “slapping back” at you). I set up the effect in Pro Tools first (using the CSR Inverse plugin from IK Multimedia). After recording the improv, I duplicated the melody at the lower octave by using AmpliTube 2 from IK and adding a pitch shift pedal to the Detuned Jazz preset (you hear this effect alone at the opening). It’s fun to hear my instrument as a “bass” mandolin... When you hear two instruments playing, it is the original signal plus the octave transposition effect.-William BradburyPlease feel free to add a comment on the Feedback/Contact page.

A: Telstar by The Tornados. Up to that point, and since World War II, there had only been three British names that topped the U.S. chart: In May of 1962 Stranger On The Shore by clarinetist Mr. Acker Bilk; the second was He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands by Laurie London (1958), whilst the first was Auf Wiederseh’n Sweetheart by Vera Lynn (1952). Viewer mail, a hot new demo offer from IK Multimedia and we present Part #2 of our 30 Days Of Dye series of interviews with Charles Dye. Viewer Mail: A request for help from Aaron Griffith of Death 101 Records. His friend is using Fruity Loops Studio (the latest version). Amplitube 1.0 worked fine, but he's getting all sorts of errors. He also tried it with Cakewalk Home Studio and it won't work there either. Have anyone heard of any issues with Amplitube 2.0 not working in this context? Write in and let us know! On a related note, IK Multimedia is offering a fully functional Amplitube 2 demo good for 30 starts! You'll need a SyncroSoft USB dongle or iKey plugged into your computer when you install it to activate it. This is not an iLok. If you don't have one you can get one online or at a local Guitar Center for about 30 bucks. Celebrity Interview: Week #2Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning engineer, mixer and producer Charles Dye began his engineering career in 1992. Since that time he's mixed hits for Ricky Martin, Sammy Hagar, Julio Iglesias, and Jon Bon Jovi. He's also recorded artists such as Aerosmith, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Gloria Estefan, among many others. This is Part #2 of 4 in our special series, The 30 Days Of Dye. The studio where Mix It Like A Record was filmed: http://SuperSonicStudios.com Click to hear Charles' recent productions and mixes! Here's Charles' setting for the Waves RenComp that closely mimics the buss compressor on an SSL console: Set to Electro mode Character to Smooth ARC off Ratio = 2:1 Attack = 15 Release = approx. 250-300 (set about to 8th note) With most of the music he's been mixing lately, 4 dB of compression at the loudest point in the song has been sounding really good. Charles comments, "I should also say that this is in no way considered mastering compression. Compression across the stereo bus while mixing is done all the time on most of the records you own. Whether inserted at the beginning or towards the end it's been a pretty standard technique for decades done by engineers all over the globe. If you need anymore proof, I have three letters: S - S - L." First up, some sad news. Wilson Pickett, best-known for hits "In the Midnight Hour" & "Mustang Sally", died of a heart attack yesterday at just 64 years young. Mike and Al share some personal memories of his work. Spotlight: Al discusses the new Macintosh computers with the Intel chip inside and it's compatibility with timing-based applications (MIDI, audio, video, etc.). The new computers are using a translation program called Rosetta to run any application that's not been updated to run on the Intel processor. Rosetta does not handle timing-based applications very well and is not ready to function as a media production platform until updates of the applications are available. Even Apple's own pro media apps (Final Cut, Soundtrack, Logic, etc.) won't run on this new machine yet. Updates of these pro apps should be available after March. In the meantime, if you're an Ableton Live user, you're good to go with the new Intel Macs! Version 5.2 was just released and ready to run on this new platform. Live 5.2 will be available as a download in February. Hot News From NAMM! Digidesign is heating up the NAMM show with lots of great news and releases...
