About Marnie WillsFor years, I was the entrepreneur who outsourced anything remotely technical. As the founder of SportyMinis (an early years physical education business) and an health and fitness business called SportsFit, I built successful companies despite—not because of—technology. I was convinced that tech just wasn't my thing, and frankly, I was okay with that. Then February 2023 happened. On a recommendation, I reluctantly tried Jasper AI for some ad copy. What I expected was rubbish copy, super generic and cost an arm and a leg. Instead, it was completely different—cheap as chips and I actually loved going back and forth chatting with Jasper about what I wanted. It really was a moment of clarity. For the first time, I didn't need to be technical to leverage powerful technology. I was thriving with confidence and felt so productive.https://www.linkedin.com/in/marnie-wills-entrepreneur/https://businesswithaistrategist.com/---------------------------------About Miriam SchulmanMiriam Schulman | Artpreneur Coach | Creative Flow Catalyst | Spiritual TechnologistMiriam Schulman is a creative entrepreneur, best-selling author, and soulful business mentor whose work lives at the intersection of art, artificial intelligence, and authentic expression. Early in her career, she struggled to hit her first six figures, battling the same limiting beliefs that hold many entrepreneurs back—believing she had to work harder to deserve success, that big money was only for "other people," and that she simply wasn't wired for exponential growth. But when she discovered Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and began shifting her beliefs, everything changed. She went from struggling to scaling, eventually creating $100,000 months and teaching others to do the same.Today, as the founder of Ursula Inc., a five-time bestselling author, and a sought-after speaker, she has helped thousands of business owners double or triple their revenue while working less. She combines her expertise in sales strategy and mindset transformation to help entrepreneurs collapse time, increase sales, and create financial freedom.https://www.linkedin.com/in/ursulaincorporatedhttps://www.ursulainc.co/------------------------------------------When It Worked Podcasthttps://getoffthedamnphone.com/podcast

As cycle-aware leaders, nurturers and creatives we have a unique opportunity at our fingertips. We have access to an amazing inner technology for managing our inner critic. (You know…  that ever-present and frankly infuriating voice inside that likes to remind you that you're not good enough, that freezes you into analysis paralysis, and that shames you into playing small.) In today's podcast we explore how to restore this inner critic to its natural home in the cycle - the pre-menstruum - and work to put boundaries in place to contain it. Because, when it's in its rightful place, the inner critic can actually become a creative ally. We explore:The truth that your critic will never become your best friend. It absolutely won't! But it can become a life-bringing force, when you know how to relate to it. How to navigate the tricky terrain of your inner critic, and offer some guidelines for putting it back in its natural place, so you can experience its sacred role in your creative process. Our upcoming Inner Critic workshop on September 14th: Your Inner Critic: Your Gateway to Your Creativity where we will learn how to relate to it in a more generative way, and liberate our creative energy. ---The doors are now open for our Your Creative Power course, starting in September. Our guest today is Miriam Schulman, a portrait painter who has had her work displayed in galleries and collected internationally. While this might seem like an unlikely guest for a thought leadership podcast, she is also the author of Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity, host of the Inspiration Place podcast and creator of the popular online art class site, the Inspiration Place. Lots of people have incredible talent. Unfortunately, most creative talent goes overlooked and underappreciated. Miriam shares how the same creativity that feeds your talent can be turned into a survival strategy - through clever marketing. The ability to try new things and be creative can trump a lack of experience (even in marketing!), if you are willing to do a little hard work. Miram discusses her book launch, and how she is marketing her book using the same advice she offers others. In addition, she shares strategies that her book launch team uses, including pre-order bonuses, social network campaigns, and other incentives that help her get reviews and buzz - before the book even hits store shelves. Whether you are an artist seeking advice on making your passion profitable, or a traditional thought leader trying to spread the word about your content, this conversation has some incredibly useful advice you can put into action right away! Three Key Takeaways: *  Cheaper is not always easier to sell. Regardless of price, your audience must understand how your offerings will benefit them. *  Friends, family, and co-workers will be happy to share your works, but you can make it easy for them and increase the odds of them sharing by writing a blurb for them. *  Book reviews are an important part of a launch strategy.  They create social validation for those who are not familiar with your work.

Imagine you're on stage with nine other people who have the same skillset you do. The same degree and/or experience. Whatever you do or make, they all can as well. And the question is put to you...why choose you? Can you really stand there and explain why you are literally the best? Better than everyone standing next to you? Here's the thing, even if you actually were, there is little chance you could prove it and even less chance anyone would believe it. In today's marketplace there are too many options to choose from. Specializing gives you a great leg up, but even here it's hard to take the approach of being the best. And there is seldom opportunity in being the cheapest. Which basically leaves you with who you can best connect with and how. This is encapsulated in your creativity and your point of view, which is ultimately, your art. I'm a 6' tall, slim white man. I have an automobile, house, job and good income. No felonies. Imagine if myself and nine other identical men all created profiles on a dating app and that's all we put. How many inquiries would we get? Probably zero. This is our world and marketplace today. No matter who you are or what you do, everyone is looking to know your story before they spend a minute or a dollar on you. They are looking for context on connecting points to determine if they find resonance with you or not. This is Part 3 of my series on Miriam Schulman. Her new book is called Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity. If you are involved, or want to be, in the fine arts, and make a living at it, she is your guru. On a bigger scale she brings the message of how creativity and art in your work is a necessity in today's overcrowded marketplace. I continue this discussion today with my frequent co-host Jared Angaza. Jared is a brand architect who has recently devoted himself to helping the space community tell their story. His expertise is in doing that, helping us all tell our story so we have the chance to connect with others, whether personally or professionally. He's also my blood brother and who is helping me tell my story as a podcast host and author so you know if I'm someone you care to listen to or not! In this show we really hone in on not only the opportunity, but the absolute necessity to tell your story or get left behind. Looking at our work, what you do is no longer enough. You can't be the best, nobody will believe that. But you can be unique. You are unique, even if you don't realize it. Just as you must put on clothes to go to work, if you want opportunity in the marketplace, or trying to get a date, you've got to communicate who you are. Your identity. This is the only way people can know if they want to connect with you or not. If you try to play it safe and remain storyless, you'll get just that. Less. And in today's culture, letting your identity be known shows confidence, while remaining hidden makes you suspect. Be authentic, this isn't about performing and being a show pony. It's again, just like a personal profile in a dating app, merely sharing who you are and what you're about as a service to people who might be interested. The Self-Help(ful) podcast is brought to you by Ziglar, your premier source for equipping coaches to help leaders and top performers excel professionally and personally. It is from our creativity where our most valuable work and life events happen. Creativity is not just for the fine arts. We harness and rely on our creativity to generate our important ideas, critical thinking, and ultimately our ability to grasp onto hope in our lives, especially when things are challenging. And as life happens we can easily be at risk of depleting our creative juices, so to say. In this episode I'm back with artist and guide to artists, Miriam Schulman. You may have run across Miriam's art and story featured on NBC's “Parenthood” and the Amazon series “Hunters” with Al Pacino. In our first show together we discussed the concepts in her book, Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity, and the opportunity and really, necessity, for us all to find our unique art and showcase a point of view in our work, no matter what we do. Here we get more personal and get into Miriam's Values, Motives, and Habits in the key areas of life. In the category of mental health she discusses the need for us to restore ourselves. Restore our hearts. In order to foster our creativity. When we are consumed and overwhelmed with busyness and worn out or even just stagnant and bored, we will find it extremely difficult to think with much creativity. So what do we do to restore it? This is a key topic of this show. You can find Miriam's book Artpreneur everywhere and get a free chapter at schulmanart.com/believe. Mindset and marketing are essential components of success in business, even more so than the actual craft. We've seen less talented people reach the top while more talented ones fall behind, because they have different mindsets and marketing strategies. Mindset and marketing involves not just believing in ourselves but also believing in our buyers and audiences. We have to believe in our artistic capabilities as well as what we are creating. However, it is also important to remember there is another element of this equation – believing in our buyers. Without some faith in those who will potentially view our work and invest in what we create, success may be difficult to come by.In this episode, Miriam Schulman, the founder of The Inspiration Place, talks about the switch she made from corporate to art and how she was able to build an art business from scratch. Today, Patty talks with one of her good friends, Miriam Schulman. She is an artist and the founder of The Inspiration Place, where she helps other artists learn how to profit from their passion or become better artists. Through online classes, business coaching programs, and a top-ranked podcast, she has helped thousands of artists around the world develop their skill sets and create more time and freedom to do what they love. Her signature coaching program, The Artist Incubator, helps artists go from "so-so" sales to sold-out collections. Miriam grew up in poverty, and with the decision to make money as a motivating factor, she worked at a Wallstreet hedgefund. She shares her experience working there, the mafia-esque culture, and being surrounded by “big swinging dicks of Wallstreet.” While working there, she had a nagging sense that there has to be something more to life, and how that eventually led to her being a self-described working artist. In this episode, Miriam shares stories revolving around her new book ARTPRENEUR: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity: how our fears and sense of self-preservation can hinder ourselves, utilizing her brain's neurodivergence as a superpower, and the power of belief structured around Miriam's very own “Belief Triad.” Miriam and Katie also discuss the hero's journey, and how it's each our own journey: in the process of discovering ourselves, we start with a comfortable safe place, then receive “the call” and eventually reach the point of no return. This episode is a fun conversation on the life of an artist, shifting mindsets, and relatable stories that will make you think about your own journey. The sales process is rarely discussed in artist circles. We often think of sales as a single step. Either someone buys your art or they don't. There's' so much more to it. Yet, many of us think of sales as a dirty word, which is a bit ridiculous if we want to grow our businesses and careers. Artists need to adopt a new mindset surrounding sales in order to be successful. My guest on this episode of The Art Biz is Miriam Schulman, artist and founder of the Inspiration Place, where she helps other artists learn how to profit from their passion or become better artists. Miriam is the author of Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity. In this conversation, Miriam and I review her Artpreneur Sales Playbook and 10-step sales process. Highlights Miriam's struggle with sales, despite her background in finance. (3:30) The evolution from general sales and marketing to effective art sales. (6:56) Curating your valuable contacts list. (9:05) The importance of mindset in sales success. (12:30) Developing a confident belief in the value of your art. (14:47) The first 5 steps of selling your art. (21:05) Body language, previewing the process, and establishing the decision maker. (27:37) Sell with stories, not facts, and selling happy endings. (33:10) Overcoming objections with the right language. (40:07) Close the sale by asking for it. (42:45) This Week's Action This week's action has two parts. Part 1 is to download the free chapter of Artpreneur at schulmanart.com/believe. Part 2 is to write out Miriam's 10 steps in the sales process and post them somewhere so you're reminded that it is a process. You need to be invested in the steps of the process in order for it to work. If you've ever been told you can't make a living off your art, today's episode will help dispel that lie and get you back on track. Today's guest is artist and author Miriam Schulman, who is the founder of the Inspiration Place podcast. She teaches artists how to price their arts and how to make a dang living doing what they love. Even if you don't consider yourself an artist, what you do based on your talent is art. The world is kind of ugly right now. There's a lot going on that isn't great, and we need your art. We need your talent. We need your beauty out there in the world. Miriam is one of those great, amazing business coaches that really help artists do that and do it well. In her upcoming book “Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity,” Miriam offers 14 lessons to help artists price and sell their work. Miriam says one of her favorites is understanding the difference between prestige and charm pricing. Charm pricing (like a $14.97 price tag instead of $15) can attract penny pinchers, and the numbers are processed by the logical part of the brain.  Whereas prestige pricing is processed by the feeling part of the brain. Research showed that people were more likely to buy a luxury item like a bottle of champagne when it was rounded (like a $40 instead of $38).  So, when you're selling something like art or you want someone to invest in a premium product, Miriam suggests tapping into that feeling side. She sometimes says we lower the price, and we think we're making it more affordable. No, you might be doing your clients a disservice right because if you make something too cheap When it comes to marketing, Miriam still believes email and even physical mail are tops. She says you can identify one to 200 people who are your hottest prospects for something, and it pays to send them physical mail. She suggests save the dates, postcards for awareness, and even taking your sales page and turning it into a printed booklet. With email, she notes the engagement rate is higher, and you have more control over who will see your message. In her book, she offers advice about how to nurture relationships as well as practical lists like which words to use in your messaging. Look for more tips in her book “Artpreneur,” which will release on January 31, 2023. Today, Patty talks with one of her good friends, Miriam Schulman. Miriam is an artist and the founder of The Inspiration Place, where she helps other artists learn how to profit from their passion or become better artists. Through online classes, business coaching programs, and a top-ranked podcast, she has helped thousands of artists around the world develop their skill sets and create more time and freedom to do what they love. Her signature coaching program, The Artist Incubator, helps artists go from "so-so" sales to sold-out collections.  Miriam grew up in poverty, and with the decision to make money as a motivating factor, she worked at a Wallstreet hedge fund. She shares her experience working there, the mafia-esque culture, and being surrounded by the “big swinging dicks of Wallstreet.” While working there, she had a nagging sense that there had to be something more to life, and how that eventually led to her being a self-described working artist.  In this episode, Miriam shares stories revolving around her new book ARTPRENEUR: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity. How our fears and sense of self-preservation can hinder ourselves, utilizing her brain's neurodivergence as a superpower, and the power of belief structured around Miriam's very own “Belief Triad.”   Miriam and Patty also discuss the hero's journey, and how in the process of discovering ourselves, we start with a comfortable safe place, then receive “the call” and eventually reach the point of no return.  This episode is a fun conversation on the life of an artist, shifting mindsets, and relatable stories that will make you think about your own journey.  Connect with Miriam:  instagram.com/schulmanart  facebook.com/schulmanart  youtube.com/schulmanart  linkedin.com/in/schulmanart  twitter.com/schulmanart   schulmanart.com/resources  ArtpreneurBook.com  Learn more about your ad choices. That's why I didn't just want to but NEEDED to write my new book: Artpreneur: The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity. This week my briefings were all related to my visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where they have a number of exhibits representing the black experience in art.   Ceramic Face Vessels  Museums have been making an effort to reset the balance of their exhibits and the artists promoted. It's part of the response to the social justice movements and subsequent conversations about the lived experience of non-white and other unrepresented artists.  The Metropolitan Museum of Art had several exhibits that highlighted previously overlooked artists. One of my favorite exhibits were ceramic face vessels.   If you're visiting (or planning to visit) the Metropolitan Museum of Art, be sure to check out my secret hack that will allow you to skip the long lines at the main entrance.   Seneca Village Artists  I checked out the new exhibit called Afro-Futurism at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. That's where I learned about Seneca Village. It was a thriving community until the land was appropriated for the park and the museum. The exhibit attempts to portray what might have come from the artists if the village had been permitted to thrive.   I'd love it if you'd leave me a review for the Artpreneur Alexa skill. If you do, email a screen shot to hello@schulmanart.com and we'll send you my eBook Unlocking Your Style as a thank you.   Representing the Black Experience Through Sculpture  While at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I came across an exhibit I was not expecting called Why Born Enslaved. It's a single sculpture by artist Jean Baptist-Carpeaux.  He created this sculpture after emancipation in America and 20 years after slavery had been abolished in France as well. The sculpture is beautiful and it's also a reminder that this woman was depicted as a slave in what could be considered an example of a white man's vision of a woman in bondage.   It's a good reminder that context is always a part of the artist's vision.   For more on that topic, check out two great podcast conversations: How to Be an Anti-Racist Artist and  Poverty Mindset, both with artist Erica Courdae.   Race and Winslow Homer  I visited this exhibit with two other artists from the incubator. We all loved his painting called Cotton Pickers. It's a beautiful painting and we all felt that Homer depicted the two women in a powerful way without trying to romanticize the era.   His watercolors are all realistic, and he captures the expressions of the people in his paintings in a realistic way.   If you'd like to learn to paint watercolor portraits you can get my new Portrait Painting eBook (free!) that has my 5 steps, plus my recommended list of supplies to get you started.   Get Paid to Write Poetry  When I left the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I walked past a man with a typewriter and a sign that said poems $2. I was intrigued and asked him to write me a poem.   He asked me to share a bit about myself and he wrote a poem just for me. You can follow him on Instagram at j.d.b  My book, Artpreneur The Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Sustainable Living from Your Creativity, is now available for pre-sale. I'm joined by Andrea Scher, author of Wonder Seeker: 52 Ways to Wake up Your Creativity and Find Your Joy, to talk about how to fill up your creative well when its run dry..  We talk about the power of mixing up your routines to try something new – going for a walk and finding a new plant, taking pictures, going to a new restaurant – as a way of sparking creativity and finding desire.  Our brains react in fear to trying new things, to hanging out in the liminal space of venturing into the unknown, but it's when we put ourselves in those spaces that we grow.  We also talk about how the pressure to monetize our creativity keeps us stuck not creating. Instead, what would it look like if you created without the expectation of making money, or “being creative”, or even getting better at what you create? What would it look like if you created for creativity's sake?  Listen to the episode to learn:  How to seek wonder in your everyday life How to find ambition and creativity as you age Why just being there in life is enough How to bother when it seems like your life is falling apart What Andrea and I's superpowers are  Check out these resources:  Andrea's podcast The Creative Superheroes, and look for me in a recent episode!  Andrea's book Wonder Seeker: 52 Ways to Wake up Your Creativity and Find Your Joy - Get your copy here: Amazon | Bookshop Unbound by Kasia Urbaniak

Inspired by an idea within the gorgeously photographed pages, I hopped out of bed, wandered over to my bookshelf, pulled books from the shelves that were speaking to me on this occasion, and before I knew it had organized them into a pile which that became my "Manifesto for Becoming 50."    There was such spontaneity, joy, and ease in this creative endeavor...qualities that emanate from the book Wonder Seeker and qualities I had long admired in Wonder Seeker's author Andrea Scher.    So, when it came time to launch the new season and invite a guest to anchor our month-long Mother's Quest May invitation to reclaim our E.P.I.C. lives in the Mother's Quest Community, I knew just who to ask. What a delight it was when Andrea Scher said yes!    Andrea is an author, artist, and life coach whose work is driven by her belief in the transformative power of creativity for joy and wellbeing. For nearly two decades, through her award-winning blog Superhero Journal, her Creative Superheroes podcast, and her bestselling e-courses, Andrea has thrilled others with their own power to find the magic all around them.   Her new book, Wonder Seeker: 52 Ways to Wake up Your Creativity and Find Your Joy straddles the world of creativity and mindfulness - playfully inspiring readers to live more vibrant lives full of presence, joy, and connection.    Like the book, I felt like this whole conversation straddled the world of creativity and mindfulness. Andrea shares with us where she developed her unique lens of looking at things through "wonder goggles" as she calls them, about the big dreams she calls Mondo Beyondo, how she loved herself and her children through her divorce, and where she's finding joy today. Talking with Andrea reminded me that our creative endeavors have ripple effects we may not even know and that we don't need permission to pursue the things that we love.    I hope you love this conversation as much as I did and open yourself to seeking more wonder in your life. I also invite you to join me and Andrea in saying "yes" to our own Mondo Beyondo dreams, to our own creativity, and to creating our own Manifestos, by signing up for the Manifesto Challenge, linked in the show notes, tapping into some of the creative ideas for expression from Wonder Seeker, like the book spine poetry I drew inspiration from, and then joining Andrea and me on May 24th to celebrate what we're creating and manifesting together.    About Andrea:   Andrea Scher is an author, artist, and life coach whose work is driven by her belief in the transformative power of creativity for joy and wellbeing. For nearly two decades, through her award-winning blog Superhero Journal, her Creative Superheroes podcast, and her bestselling e-courses, Andrea has thrilled others with their own power to find the magic all around them.   Her new book, Wonder Seeker: 52 Ways to Wake up Your Creativity and Find Your Joy (HarperCollins) straddles the world of creativity and mindfulness - playfully inspiring readers to live more vibrant lives full of presence, joy, and connection.    You can learn more about Andrea on her website or follow her on Instagram!    Connect with Andrea: Website | andreascher.com Instagram | @andreascher Facebook | Andrea Scher Website | Blog Website | Podcast   Topics Discussed in this Episode:   What Andrea means by “Mondo Beyondo” and some of our Mondo Beyondo moments.  How Andrea mindfully engaged with her children through the experience of her divorce. The simple somatic practice Andrea uses when she sees something she wants more of in her life. What women were taught growing up about pursuing what we desire and what Andrea thinks we need to shift. Manifesting and creating blueprints for our life goals. How you can see things from a new perspective and from different angles. Andrea's magical journey to bringing her book Wonder Seeker to publication, something both 25 years in the making and that came to fruition in mere months. Andrea's most recent “Wonder Date” experience with bioluminescent algae on Tomales Bay.  Our joint challenge to you is to create a Mondo Beyondo Manifesto of your own.    Resources Mentioned: Mother's Quest May Gift Guide Episode 61: Reclaiming Ourselves in Motherhood: Revisited with Graeme Seabrook Mothers Quest: Right Livelihood, Magic, and Meaning with Lindsay Pera of the Modern Mystics Institute Wonder Seeker by Andrea Sher Andrea Sher's eCourses Sunset Bioluminescence Kayak Tour   This Episode's Challenge:   This Mother's Quest May, say “yes” to the annual 7-day Manifesto Challenge, which you can access in the Mother's Quest MemberVault. Look up Chris Perry's (@thecreativechip) YouTube channel, and you'll see the tagline “Make Time for Your Creativity.” Perhaps that's the best summation of Chris's approach to toy photography: put in the time, make the commitment, and grow. And that approach definitely seems to working!    Cinematographer, videographer, and toy photographer, Chris Perry, otherwise known as The Creative Chip, creates images filled with emotion and story. In this interview, Sabrina Perry (@theperrylegoadventures)—and no relation!—chats with Chris about his work, his inspiration, and his journey as a toy photographer.    Listen in as they chat about:     Their journeys to becoming toy photographers     The personal stories and experiences that have motivated them and inspired their images     The emotional elements of toy photography     Being vulnerable on social media     The intersection of “real life” and their creative lives     The power of synchronicity     Music as inspiration     Goals for the future     And so much more!    As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts after listening to this episode: What are your goals when it comes to your own toy photography? First up, some sad news. Wilson Pickett, best-known for hits "In the Midnight Hour" & "Mustang Sally", died of a heart attack yesterday at just 64 years young. Mike and Al share some personal memories of his work. Spotlight: Al discusses the new Macintosh computers with the Intel chip inside and it's compatibility with timing-based applications (MIDI, audio, video, etc.). The new computers are using a translation program called Rosetta to run any application that's not been updated to run on the Intel processor. Rosetta does not handle timing-based applications very well and is not ready to function as a media production platform until updates of the applications are available. Even Apple's own pro media apps (Final Cut, Soundtrack, Logic, etc.) won't run on this new machine yet. Updates of these pro apps should be available after March. In the meantime, if you're an Ableton Live user, you're good to go with the new Intel Macs! Version 5.2 was just released and ready to run on this new platform. Live 5.2 will be available as a download in February. Hot News From NAMM! Digidesign is heating up the NAMM show with lots of great news and releases...
