Ben is a married & dedicated father, small business owner of Be Strong KY, competitive weightlifter, and personal trainer. He wore a tank top to showcase his build simply to spite me (I'm sure of it) (actually, I'm totally joking), but seriously - we spoke so little of what he actually does for a living that he's going to have to come on again simply because tonight's conversation was so damn organically human. We disagreed on several important points, and yet somehow... We still had an amazing conversation.  Imagine that. Truly looking forward to having him on again. This is definitely your guy if you're looking for a lifestyle change, mental health adjustment via the body, or something a bit more cerebral. Happy Thursday, y'all. Amy Holland's recommendations rarely disappoint. The evidence is here. :)

The biggest pod yet - and what will probably result in at least a monthly political panel in some capacity- I was honored with the input & participation of the following (alphabetically ordered) guests:  +Adam Collins: "38 year old former and current candidate for Hamilton City Council. Atheist humanist, putting the betterment of humankind above all else. My main goal in life is to try to leave the world a better place than when I got here. Ultra liberal far leftist. Fuck the system." +Jake Dingler: "30. Queer communist/Maoist. Welder by trade, gig worker by circumstance. Social justice organizer with various groups around Cincinnati." +Tara Doerzbacher: "31. Intentional living. Feminist. Gatherer of plants and books and non committal men. Moderate Liberal." +Tyler Herrmann: 31. Unapologetic Republican. Lawyer. Gubment employee & burgeoning/lightweight established politician. "Tyler has several letters after his name, but still knows very little. Also, he likes elephants." +Dr. Amy Holland: Au. D. Libertarian. Former small business owner & private practician, current Clinical Director for a large (but family-owned) hearing health business in OH & KY. Sassy-pants. Deadpanner unrivaled. She's a class-act human being, rational to a fault, and sometimes she makes too much goddamn sense. In an increasingly divisive country, I sought to lay the groundwork for a dialogue across the political spectrum. I hope you enjoy these different & often conflicting viewpoints as much as I enjoyed having them on.

Amy Holland (Dr., by the way - put some respecc on her name) is a clinically adept audiologist with both an exceptional bedside manner AND a withering motherly gaze if she feels like you need taken down a peg or 7. She is also my close friend, former boss & small business owner, proud dog/human-mom, Clinical Director for Acute Hearing (a well-known, reputable, and family-owned hearing business in KY & OH, and my former workplace), and honestly just an overall great person to have in your corner if you're in need of fantastic hearing healthcare, solid life advice, or sarcasm that is both limitless and growth-promoting.   I also promised my kids they could say "hi" to everyone after episode 10, so I exacted a small measure of revenge upon Amy by forcing her to talk to them.   Together, we touch on the increasing lack of human decency on social media, revisit the trials of yet another small business impacted by the coronavirus, what it was like for both of us navigating the closing of her Ascent practice, and her infinite patience with me despite snoring in her lobby and stomping a literal mudhole all the way to my desk.   I hope you enjoy this episode with the type of person I hope everyone has the opportunity to call both an employer AND a friend as much as *I* enjoyed making her visibly uncomfortable because I know she hates compliments. This is, after all, my pod... And I do what I want.

Amy Holland was honored with a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist after her debut self-titled album. The single, “How Do I Survive”, soared into the Top 20 on the Billboard charts and put Amy on the map. It was ten years prior that she came to Los Angeles as a teenager to exploit her singer-songwriter skills.  Fortuitously, she met then piano accompanist Michael McDonald, who was later to become producer of the hit LP alongside Patrick Henderson, making her a household name  – and a few years after that, his wife. And now she's back with a new studio album aptly entitled, Light on My Path, produced by award winning Fred Mollin ( Jimmy Webb, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus).  It highlights her fluid and melodic style which will please country, jazz, blues and pop fans alike. In addition to the up-tempo first single “Walkin’ on a Wire”, which grabs you on the first chorus, the album features several sure-to-be classic ballads including “Prove That by Me,” a duet with Michael McDonald. Friends who contributed background vocals on the CD are David Pack (Ambrosia), David Crosby, Joseph Williams (Toto) and son Dylan McDonald. Amy co-wrote “Impossible Love” and “Light on My Path” on this record.

Since 1988, Marin County singer-songwriter Bernie Chiaravalle has been touring the world playing guitar with five-time Grammy winner Michael McDonald.  During those years, Chiaravalle has co-written and recorded with McDonald, co-writing four tracks on his superb 2000 release Blue Obsession, as well as co-producing it.  They have written over two dozen songs together.  Bernie also has a song on the legendary Judy Collins duets album Strangers Again.  The wonderful “Miracle River” was written by Bernie, Amy Holland and John Goodwin and performed as a duet between Judy Collins and Mike McDonald. Bernie’s musical style encompasses many influences from The Beatles to Stephen Stills to Todd Rundgren and others.  But he really has distilled those influences down into his own thing.  Many of his songs have a cinematic quality that suggests visuals to go along with the music. While holding down Mike McDonald’s guitar chair for the past 29 years, which is practically forever in the notoriously mercurial music business, Bernie Chiaravalle has amassed his own fine body of solo work. The self-penned Make Some Sense of This is his eighth solo record, coming just a year after his well-received One Bright Moment.  Here, he flawlessly handles all vocals and instruments.Website: http://www.berniechiaravalle.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/berniechiaravalle2/?ref=bookmarksTwitter: https://twitter.com/bchiaravalleYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/berniechiaravalle

Fortuitously, she met then piano accompanist Michael McDonald, who was later to become producer of the hit LP alongside Patrick Henderson, making her a household name  – and a few years after that, his wife.Amy became a staple for music supervisors of films big and small, most notably  Night of the Comet (“Learn to  Love Again” a duet with Chris Farren), Teen Wolf (“Shooting for the Moon”), St. Elmo’s Fire (“For Just a Moment (Love Theme from St. Elmo’s Fire”) duet with Donny Gerrard) and many more, as well as for television  shows including One Life to Live (“All I Know” duet with Michael McDonald). She also contributed vocally to recording projects with artists including Kenny Loggins, Joni Mitchell, Tim Weisburg, Doobie Brother Patrick Simmons as well as Michael McDonald’s solo albums. Her songs were recorded by Judy Collins (“The Journey to Miracle River”), Tim Weisburg (“I’ll Never Give Up”) and others and “She’s on Fire” was recently sampled by Lil Wayne.

Amy Holland has been surrounded by music since the day she was born. Her mother was a singer and performer and her father was also involved in the music industry. She headed to LA when she was only 15 years old to pursue her own career in music, which is where she met Michael McDonald, who co-produced her first album and eventually became her husband. Amy was on top of the world with her top 40 hit “How Do I Survive” and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1981, along with a follow-up album in 1983. After a lengthy and difficult battle with cancer, Amy returned to music and released her third studio album in 2008 titled “The Journey To Miracle River.” Amy’s musical journey continues and a few weeks ago she released the brand new album “Light On My Path.” Inside MusiCast is pleased to welcome Amy Holland.
